  • We take a ride out to Bryn Mawr to meet up with Corey and take a look at his garage of bikes. He has a a great story of how we got into motorcycles and his how we started buying and selling bikes. We'll take a look at the current bikes he has and I will hop on his 2015 Indian Scout.
    I will give my thoughts on the Indian Scout and some of my thoughts on how it compares to my Iron 1200.
    Check out Corey on Instagram and UA-cam:

    I had my heart set on a Harley 48. I had the cash set aside for it, but couldn't find any in stock, so I waited. Then one day driving home from work, I stopped at the Indian dealership and sat on a Scout. It felt as though it was made for me. It was in the fall so I decided to wait until spring to get a new bike. I finally got a chance to ride a Scout, that next spring, and was hooked. I found one a couple of hundred miles away, used, with under 600 miles on it. Got a great deal on it, and have never second guessed my decision. I'm in the middle of my 3rd riding season on it.
    So glad that I stopped at that dealership before I bought the Harley. Still like the looks of that Sportster, just not nearly as much as my Scout.

      Right? I have a 2014 Vintage. I traded in my 2016 Honda Shadow 750 for it. Broke my heart because I loved that peppy mid size bike. But I fell in love with the big ass Vintage right away. A year later I was thinking "I'd really like a mid size bike to compliment this big honking cruiser". Went to Wagner Motorsports in Worcester Mass and inquired about Scouts. They had a 100th Anniversary in stock, brand new. I asked Don "excellent and very smart " salesman about numbers.. long story short.. now I have a Vintage and a Scout and love them both!

      I'm planning to get the Bobber 60 to start, it's 74 horse and 60 cu in. vs the 104 hp 69 cu in. standard bobber. the best part is I learned the 60 has the same engine and when I'm ready to upgrade the power they make a big bore kit that puts it at 1300 cc 139 horse, combined with other upgrades I've seen these bikes topping 160 horse and that's just nuts. I'll be happy with the 74 horse for a long time I'm sure.

      @@mikeskidmore6754 it has a fantastic lean angle if you get different exhaust and then adjust the controls. My guess is you just don't like the bike and that's fine but the complaints you have can be fixed without issue. If you want a super lean angle don't ride cruisers to start with not many have a "good" lean angle. I mean look at the fat tire style that has come to these bikes like many cruisers. It's not for everyone for sure. Though how much this bike can be changed to fit riders it's not impossible for anyone to make it their own. Short pegs, an exhaust change and you have a pretty steep lean angle. For me the first things to be changed are the low slung exhaust and the pegs having some lean but plan to make it my own over time that's where the fun is I guess for guys like me. I like the mod ability

    my issue with both bikes is low seat height very little rear suspension travel and cramped legs.Low Low is an American thing but terrible for riding scraping pegs back getting jolts on bumps etc.Why I like standard bikes. If I want a cruiser I'll get Valkyrie flat 6 legs under relaxed.

    You can't compare your air cooled Sportster to a water cooled engine. The new Sportster replacement will be water cooled. Just wait and see.
    Forward controls work best outside of an urban area. Wouldn't want them for Philly riding where it's stop and go. I like the forwards on my Street Bob in Philly.

    I have to say both marques make really handsome bikes but the lack of lean angle available on either is what will always put me off them. Purely from a safety point of view. I live and ride in Yorkshire where there are almost no straight country roads (apart from the Roman roads, of course). I test rode a Fatbob a few years ago and loved it right up until I entered the first roundabout, pegs dragged on both sides. Now that would be dangerous on the roads where I live. Beautiful bikes though.

    When I heard that Scout had 1200 miles and needed $1000 in repairs and the pipes were burnt blue, I thought wtf? Seriously? I bought my Sportster 1200C new in '09 and it has been 100% reliable and never needed any repairs at all. I just get regular oil changes, replace the battery every 4 years, that's it. The pipes, and the entire bike, are still looking brand new. I know that there are more powerful bikes but I really don't care. This year I considered trading up to a Fat Boy 114 with the M8 engine because I wanted the softtail suspension, 6'th gear, and ABS. The extra power doesn't hurt but I'm not sure I want another 100 lbs of weight. The price of that bike is way too high for what it is, but it is a nice bike, can't argue that. But due to the high MSRP and dealer markup on top of it, I decided to look at other brands. I am convinced that I would really like the Indian Scout, Bobber or standard, can't decide. It's light weight like a Sportster but a better performer. However, the Scout still has poor suspension (mushy in front, to short stroke in back) and the price of accessories is crazy high. Scouts do have some issues, lots of vids about those problems, and I don't need those problems. The new Sportster S isn't even a Sportster IMHO, just in name only, and although it might be a cool bike, it's just not for me. All said and done, I might settle for a new HD Softtail Standard (too bad it's only available in black), or just count my blessings and keep the '09 Sportster until I die.

      For what it's worth. My 19 scout bobber has been extremely reliable. Just passed the 3 years of ownership mark. I've only done maintenance and tires(and one set of feeler pegs because i ride it like i stole it and love corners on this little angry beast). I love my bike and couldn't fathom trading it in. I ride year round except when theres snow/ice on the road. I don't think you'll be disappointed with a scout.

    Lovely Scout, but there is NO WAY IN HELL he's gaining 15-20hp from only the exhaust. A turbo vehicle only sees those gains via tuning and full exhaust, on a bigger motor. A 1200cc naturally aspirated V Twin gains MAYBE 10hp if you're lucky, and that is only if a tune is applied with it. If you drop in cams, tune and bolt ons, you might get those numbers out of it however. Maybe I missed something.
    What qualifies me to say anything about it in the first place? I work at Indian. If you liked this, the 116ci Chief will BLOW YOUR MIND.

    • @jakewilson2450
      @jakewilson2450 3 роки тому +3

      Actually it does with the tune from loyds garage, I got the scout 60 and pushed out an extra 20hp with intake, exhaust and tune. I think its partly because they are tuned down aswell from factory so it picks up some power that was already there just held back.

    Had the Octane, great bike, handled well, Less forward in the controls, rolled on well and nice top end. Scout is cooler looking imo but not quite as talented. However if after a sportier ‘Sporty’ then go get a XR1200 with the High Comp EVO 👍 💪 P.S. Scouts don’t make 100hp stock and with a zaust and tune you might get 105hp on dyno. Octanes had higher redline, more compression, bore and cams. If just want to cruise and be cool, make good sounds and rip then 1200 Sporty gets it done 😎
