Baldur's Gate 3 Act 3 Party's Reaction to Scratch dying

- I did this on a file where Scratch decided to stand in some leftover fire after a battle at camp and I didn't realize until later that he'd been doing that until it was too late. I immediately backtracked (a LOT of backtracking) to where he hadn't been standing in fire and made sure to clear up any after-battle fire and re-do all of my progress just to get Scratch back. Later, once I saw the video linked below, I came back to this save where Scratch had perished to throw around the ball and see Dialogue from people I hadn't seen in other videos (Minsc, Wyll, Karlach) and decided to compile it here.

and I realized some companions were missing.
This is a compilation of everyone except Minthara and Durge (as it was done on a file without those two)
In addition, this has the Owlbear Cub's reaction to Scratch's death.
I find it fascinating that Astarion is audibly the most upset of everyone. He's the only one on the verge of tears thinking about Scratch's death. Everyone else is obviously upset (except Durge) but their meloncholy reads are more resigned. Astarion's reaction really surprised me. This was a spawn Astarion, so I don't know if he says things differently if he's ascended.

FAQ:
1) How do you have all the companions like that?

2) How the heck did Scratch DIE??
If he is killed at camp, either by running through fire, standing in caustic acid, or getting attacked/killed during a potential battle (spoilery so I won't say much more) He can be killed.
3) Oh no, if I summon Scratch and he gets hurt in battle will he die??
No, Scratch can ONLY die at camp. If he's hurt in battle outside of camp he'll teleport to camp.
4) How do I keep Scratch from dying at camp?
Douse flames and caustic acid in water using either a thrown bottle/carafe of water or use the create water spell over the area with flames/caustic acid and don't summon him for the (potential) scripted camp fights. After any battles in camp make sure all harmful surfaces are doused with water so he doesn't accidentally run into it afterwords (This is what I had to do when I reset my save after I realized he'd died the first time because something had been set on fire and it kept burning and killed him because he kept running around through it.)
5) If Scratch dies, can he be revived?
No. Neither you nor Withers can revive Scratch; if he dies, he's dead forever afaik.AFAIK. or you could just. You know. Save scum.
6) Where Minthara and Durge?
This save was prior to the patch where you were canonically allowed to save Minthara no matter what (She used to be side-with-goblins-over-teiflings only) and I think my durge file got corrupted with mods so I couldn't access it when I made this video. Next time when I have Minthara and have a new Durge run, I'll make a new video.
7) What camp is this??
It's the Elfsong Tavern! Talk to the barkeeper and ask if you can rent a room!

@@bibbobella In 5e, Wish is a lvl 9 spell for clerics and sorcerers...which means realistically we should have it and be able to pretty much Thanos snap all our problems away.
it's so funny to me that astarion's lines are the most flippant, but delivered with the most distress. giving lots of "whatEVER i don't even CARE" between sobs sort of energy.
Astarion is tsundere lol, but goddammit in all seriousness the distress in his voice makes me want to give him a hug! 😭

Damn it got me when Jaheira mentions the smell. Towards the end my cat's life I realised that her distinct smell had been because she'd been an outdoor cat, and that smell went away as she spent more and more time inside. It was kinda like wet soil and sunlight.

Yeah unfortunately I had a file where he'd gotten stuck in some fire after a fight in the late game in the tavern so he died (and I had to backtrack to figure out why he'd randomly died so I could stop it from happening)
@@RathdrgnknightThis is probably a dumb question but I dunno where to find the answer: Where is it that your party is in the video? Cause I always see this interior camp and never know how you actually get there, I have played through the game twice and still not found it.

My paladin instantly going oathbreaker when my dog dies
I don't think it would even count as oathbreaker if my Tav went and killed the person responsible for Scratch's death here because a vampire spawn (not astarion) killed him so it'd probably count as killing a monster as far as the Gods were concerned.
I believe in the industry they call that "John Wicking".
Withers should make an exception for only resurrecting those who are actively fighting against the Absolute for Scratch. I don't care if he charges ten times as much for Scratch's resurrection.
Scratch can die!?! Glad that didn't happen in my playthrough, or I'd stop playing.
If he dies in camp then yes, he's dead permanently. If you summon him in battle and he dies, he'd just go back in camp.

To add one possible companion: I saw in another video, that Minthara is also not happy about losing Scratch!
Yeah I did this before you could get her in a "good" run so I may redo this video in the future to add her into it.

I lost my dog in may this year. She was a good girl.
I'm so sorry, losing a pet is always tough. My last dog passed a few years back, and while the pain is still there, remembering how happy they were helps now. It gets better, just bittersweet.

If scratch is summoned and dies in battle, is he gone forever?
No. If he dies in battle he goes back to camp. If he dies in camp he dies forever

I don't use him as a summon in battle. If he dies he can't be resurrected?
He can only die at camp. If you use him in battle outside camp he'll be fine. If he dies at camp he dies for real.
Edit: I just realized I never answered your actual question, if he dies I don't think Withers can resurrect him. Wish he could though. Get on that, Larian!
How were u able to have more than 3 of ur companions on the side panel? Is that a mod or will I too be able to have that feature later on, which is when?

Shaming you for not reading the description and MANY other comments where I explained what happened.
Fuckin vampire siblings fight left fire on the ground in camp, Scratch kept running through it until he died and I had to backtrack since I didn't get a notification he was dead until an annoying amount of time later. Had the save file laying around after I saved him from the fire and decided to compile the companion's reactions.
How do you even kill scratch?
At camp, leftover fire from a fight in camp was where scratch was standing and he kept running through it when i entered camp. I didn't expect him to be able to die and didn't notice when the fire finally killed him. If he dies outside of camp he'll teleport to camp but if he dies in camp then he's dead permanently.
I didn’t know you could get hurt at camp. I thought it was a “safe place” where only fun shit happened 😑 clearly I’m early on in my game still
@@elenalizabethyou don't have to worry to much. To my knowledge there are only two instances of combat in camp. So even if there is more it's not a common occurrence.

No, if he's dead withers cannot revive him, he's gone. He can only be killed at camp, though.

if he dies within your camp he dies... this can happen if your camp is attacked... if he dies when you summon him he returns to camp instead but if he dies in camp he just dies

If you have a patch of fire or caustic acid on the ground and throw his ball there he'll run into it. Don't attack him just give him passive damage.

@katiatall well my scratch died accidentally after the vampires lit an area of the camp on fire so I didn't do it intentionally. I actually had to backtrack a ton because I did NOT want to finish my playthrough without Scratch. I still had this save when I saw the UA-cam vid in my description that prompted me to combine all the dialogue. No clue about cheeseyboi though.
