Yes those marks are a deal breaker for spatial computing at work where people will see your face. Its not even accounting for the weight on your face causing fatigue on your neck or the added eye strain. That will cause plenty of eyesight health problems for its users.

What's so nice about this channel, is that it actually cares about the viewer's experience when it comes to sponsorship plugs. Many UA-cam content creators have their production costs supplimented by living at home with mom and dad. They have no need for the sponsorship, yet they slam an ad right in the middle of their content. They seem oblivious to the fact that I PAY for a UA-cam premium subscription in order to avoid ads. Linus, on the other hand, clearly needs the ad revenue to keep the quality as high as it is. He also segways into the ad in ways that make it far less intrusive. So bravo to Linus for striking an acceptable ballance.

It feels like they're waiting on the community to find all the best use cases for it and buy more time for when they could release a cheaper version that will be more of a consumer headset. The people who bought it now are the guinea pigs, which is what makes it exciting for the enthusiasts anyways.

    • @Baulderstone1

If they'd priced it at a more accessible level, more people in the general public would have bought it, been disappointed, and passed on later models. The price point they set means that most people that bought are in the same category as Linus. Tech nerds that are disappointed, but also excited to see what comes next.

I’m sorry, but I think you have missed a really versatile use case for the Vision Pro headset. I travel for work a lot. My home set up is an 80 inch 1080p display mounted on the wall and 2 x 27 inch 4K monitors on my desk plus my 14 inch M3 MacBook Pro screen so I am running a four screen set up all the time.
I have to wear glasses to read and I have the big screen on the wall because I do a lot of CAD editing and design work as well as a lot of large spreadsheet work and this is the ideal monitor to do that on. It also allows me to share the content with other members of my team whilst I am at a standing desk.
All of this is lost when I travel and I spend probably four days a week on the road. I actively delay doing large scale drawing edits and a lot of my spreadsheet work until I get back to my home office simply because I don’t have the screen real estate to do that.
I know this is true for a lot of my colleagues And for a lot of people who like to work on large multi monitor set ups. The Apple Vision Pro allows me to do that on the move whilst only carrying my M3 MacBook.
I can now be far more productive whilst I’m out on the road. You are assuming that whoever is using the unit is sat behind a desk at work. That is not the case this is suitable for. It is when I am out on the road and I don’t have all my external monitors, that is when this comes into its own.
I can run all of my native apps from my MacBook whilst having Safari in a separate window, my messages in a separate window a movie playing in background in a separate window all running off the headset. It is an amazingly powerful working environment and I think that is where Apple gets the spatial computing naming convention from.
As a large scale multi monitor environment for travelling, I really don’t think it could be beaten

Finally, a sane review of this thing. And Linus is exactly right. It IS about convenience. The smartphone took off despite its expense because having something like that in your pocket all the time was a huge improvement in convenience for practically everyone who tried it. Said it before and I'll say it again: AR has more practical value than VR. We live in the real world, and "pass through" is a massively over complicated and expensive solution to a self-imposed problem. Just give me some light weight glasses that can put info from my phone or another input in my FOV without being a huge distraction. I want a HUD, not a device that isolates me in my own little reality.

Hilariously, MacOS *DOES* have touch support- if you connect an external USB-c Touchscreen monitor, it works almost flawlessly. The Vision Pro just uses a very different connection method, so the touch manipulation is done very differently by MacOS when you’re connected to one.

The main advertised use case for this reminds me of the early obsession over tablets. Everyone had one. News readers had one, the were being used in supermarket checkouts, people who could just as easily use a notepad had one. 10 years later and I can't remember the last time I saw one in use other than a friend who uses one to read magazines. Same thing with voice assistants on phones. Nobody wants the attention of talking to their people in public. Even at home people in general don't want to talk to their phone. Today it's a forgotten fad.
Where tablets got maybe a decade, the idea of sitting in a meeting wearing a headset probably won't get any traction and that selling point won't be mentioned in as little as a year.

19:28 Linus said it before with him thinking about looking at a phone screen all day while using the Vision Pro. The downside to avid VR headset use, is that even if there’s an illusionary trick to make it seem like the screen is far away, the screen is actually an inch away from your eyes in an enclosed environment.
