    SUMMARY
-The first couple of days were the worst. I could barely keep my eyes open, and I dreamed about getting back to sleep.
-After the first week, however, I learned an eye-opening truth about myself: mornings are the most productive time of day for me. I started to wake up with a clear mind, a well-rested body, and the ability to immediately concentrate on important tasks and set goals for the following day.
-My new sleeping regime gave me 2 extra hours before I had to leave for work. All the spare time I had opened doors to new possibilities, habits, and hobbies.
-If you're an introvert and enjoy spending time alone in silence, you'll definitely have a new level of appreciation for early rises: no kids yelling, no babies crying, no cars honking, and no television noise.
-I had enough time not only to prepare breakfast but to sit down and enjoy it as well. And after that, I'll never go back to my old “I'll just grab a snack” ways.
-During this monthlong experiment, I realized that I don’t need to stay in bed for 10-12 hours to get enough sleep. Waking up at 5:30, I feel rested and full of energy to start a new day.
-To become an early riser, open your curtains before going to bed. Withdraw from your phone, tablet, and TV at least an hour before bed if you want to improve the quality of your sleep. If you have trouble falling asleep, try reading in bed or listening to an audiobook.
-Jerry Seinfeld has a big wall calendar, and for every day that he writes new material, he puts a big red “X” on it. He aims to create an unbroken chain of these “X” marks for as long as he can.

He was born long before the internet age so it was normal to sleep early with nothing else meaningful to do other than watching tv shows. Today, people are busy online, netflix, working out in the evening at gym, parties, dining out, etc. So in this age, it is not easy to cut off the free time in the evening unless you commit to sacrifice cutting off the evening activities and forget what's around you.

Here's what I have found has helped me wake up early consistently:
    1. Setting app blockers on my phone and computer for 2 hrs before I go to bed.
    2. Setting app blockers for the first hour of the morning so I don't waste time after I wake up.
    3. I have a LIFX light and that is set to turn itself off at the same time every night.
    4. Waking up at the same time every day *including the weekends* (This one was key as I found weekends derailed my routines)
    5. Having my alarm in another room.
    6. Having my to-do-list visible on my walk to turn off the alarm.
    7. Exercise early. The longer the day wares on, the more excuses you'll make to put it off 'til tomorrow.
    8. Go for a walk and breath walk while you do it. This will wake you up and make you feel good. I never feel tired after my walk.
Hope this helps...I mean, there's a very useful video above as well ^^^^

Seriously, these days I'm kinda beating myself up I didn't do that 35 years ago! Then again, demand for sleep and social desires are actually different when you're U-20! That said, what do we do past 21.00 pm, study, meditate, take a walk in the rain, learn a new language, paint, yoga?? Nah, it's the time we give in to our most unhealthy habits, partly because our will-power resources have run out, and we are in fact tired. Not so in the three hours before 08.00 am, and those come with the added bonus that they're totally your own - still. ;)

I felt much more productive and energized and more focused throughout the whole entire day. So please wake up at 5am it literally will change your life.

I definitely agree with the whole putting your alarm on the other side of the room thing. I do it myself. I also put all my electronic devises outside my room and wake up at 6:00am in the morning. Watching this video has inspired me to wake up a little earlier to get stuff done plus it has shown me that even waking up a little earlier means nothing if you are unproductive. I spend countless hours moping around even when i get 9 hours of full sleep. I'm planning to start a daily routine and get into the habit of following it.
    Thanks the bright side!

I am from India. Born and brought up in hilly areas. There people generally sleep by 9 or 10 pm. Naturally they wake up early. I always found them warm and happy. They have determination built in them. People are healthy and cheerful. Waking up early gives you all such added benefits. My parents always asked me to wake up early to which I refused. But from quite sometimes now I am waking up around 4:30-5:30 am. Trust me it makes a beautiful day. I hit the gym by 6:30. Initially my target was to loose weight. But now I realised working out makes me happy. It gives a kind of satisfaction. Guys first 3 weeks are hard to start but if you stick to the plan you will experience the difference. All the best!!! Stay blessed everyone :)

Only this week I decided to stop hitting my snooze button and get up at 5.30am. It's amazing what a difference that had made in my everyday. I feel so alive and happier. I'm glad your experiment supported this because a part of me thought that it was only in my mind.

I’ve been waking at 5am for the past month and I admit my quality of life has drastically improved. The key for me is doing something I enjoy first thing in the morning: a hot cup of tea. Then some sort of movement, like yoga. Then I get ready and go about my normal routine. My mornings are better and I’m ready to focus by the time I get to work. Starting the day with some solitude and less overall anxiety really does make all the difference!

I always wake up at 4:30 AM to do a prayer, take a bath with cold water at 5:00 AM, and doing activity after that. After all day from activity, I'm doing The last mandatory prayer of the day at 7:00 PM and if there's no other thing to do, I'm go to sleep at 9:00 PM. Usually, I'm wake up at 1:00 PM to do a Sunnah prayer (this is not mandatory), and sleep again until wake up at 4:30 AM again, and the routine continue. I'm not doing it for mental or health development, it's just my routine, but what this video told it, it's true. Your mind is clear, body getting strong although you didn't workout, and of course your soul is amazingly better.

There's an old rule to plan your sleep to have X times 90-minute cycles. Every 90 minutes includes deep sleep and at the end of the cycle we're nearly awake and the next cycle begins etc. So it's easier to wake up after 6h sleep than after 6 1/2 hours when you might be in deep sleep stage. Try 6 or 7 1/2 hrs. It works.

Nobody will see this comment, but incase you do, what i do is:
Wake up at 5:30 AM with an alarm set 10 minutes later.
    .
Say a prayer ( eyes open & actually talking, if you say it in your head you can fall back asleep! )
    .
Grab my notebook and write out my thoughts and my morning so far, it will make you less tired and is good for you. you can write out your goals for the day, your stresses, anything you want. In that journal i mark all the morning entries with a star. This is also good to keep your eyes open, your hands moving, and remember not to doze off.
    .
Once the alarm goes off I get out of bed and turn on the light then go brush your teeth and all, then i listen to a few songs
    .
    Go downstairs and get water
    .
And that's it, this is a very mindful and nice morning routine and It is my favorite. You could try it for school if you'd like

DEAR FELLOW KIDS!!! DO NOT WAKE UP AT 5:30 UNLESS YOU CAN GO TO SLEEP FROM 7:00-8:30! You need that sleep while you're developing. Not getting enough sleep can later lead to growth and health problems. If you are unable to go to bed at those times, wait until you're an adult to start following what this video says.

Without waking up at 5:30, something that definitely changed my experience of work was to take time in the morning to have breakfast. Before that, I would stay as long as I could in my bed before I had to go to work before I just did not know what else to do and I did not wanted to do anything else. Then I was heading to work and at work I had no motivation because my days were -staying in bed -working -eating and sleeping
And the best time of all that was to eat
So I was always feeling unmotivated and that my life was one endless day only filled with unproductive work and a lot of procrastination
Sometimes you procrastinate because it feels good and you feel like it's your good thing in the day but it's not actually pleasant
But I did not have a lot of distraction, I was in a isolated town and at home I felt so alone, I always wanted to do more work but I was actually procrastinating when I was at work
Waking up only 20 minutes before my normal time to take breakfast really helped to not rush into the day. It was my time to relax, find my pace and my flow of thinking, and then I was much more relax and ok when I was going to work. Life was not anymore an endless day because I had this time in the morning to take my time and find myself

As a moslem I usually get up at 4:00 AM because it's our time to do the dawn prayer (subuh prayer), after that I have no reason to go back to my bed except on weekend if my body felt exhausted in the day before. Like what you said in the video, waking up early is giving you extra time to enjoy your life and do many things you've never done before like tasting a cup of coffee or tea in the morning while you read your favorite books or news, doing exercise or maybe clean your house.
Without realizing it, I think it gives positive impact to our daily activity.

But I do typically arise at 7 a.m. and have a good three hours before I usually need to leave the house. I like not having to wake up to an alarm. And I like being able to make appointments in the morning. For example, it's no problem making it to a 8 a.m. dentist or doctor appointment.

Hey dude. I must say I started to wake up earlier as well now. But I only woke up one hour earlier. It was so good to not have to stress about getting to work directly. I didn't even feel super tired. :D
I got up had a little breakfast did a little 5 minute workout (those 5 minutes of planking) which took me about 20-30 minutes because I'm not really used to do it but I will. Then took a shower brushed my teeth and even found some time to practise on my piano. :D
This is amazing. I will try to keep going and wake up at 5 a.m. my time. :D
I can actually gain some more time if I get used to the workout so I can do it in those 5 Minutes at once. :D
Thank you so much. I will be able to change my whole live now :P

sarah most scientists have found that once your brain has developed (21-25) you no longer need 8 hours of sleep, just 6.

Depends on your sleep quality. If you sleep
straight through the night and wake up feeling refreshed, 6 or 7 hrs are enough. If you sleep more fitfully or have a lot of dreams, you’ll need about 2 more hrs per night. So just subtract 6-7 hrs from your wake up time or 8-9 if you are a heavy dreamer.
Also a power nap in the middle of the day is perfect. No more that 25mins long. If you are a light sleeper or if you have been working out a lot and are not sleeping more, your mind will love the nap, midday, close your eyes for 20-25 mins. NO MORE. And you’ll be refreshed for the afternoon. Take a little coffee or a green/black tea soon after you wake and that way you avoid the 4pm slump and having to take coffee at that time (which can keep you up if you’re sensitive). A power nap is important when you change your schedule like this because you ARE more productive: more mental and more physical activity happen. So you need to recharge midday.
If you can’t go home to to take your 25 min power nap, go to your car or to the park with a little pillow, or just rest your head somewhere. 🍀
