Yeah, so it's been about a month since my last video. I had originally just recorded myself talking and thought it was too boring and decided to convert the recording to text. Then I refined the text to be more coherent. I have been working with every little bit of free time I could offer and finally I have a finished product. I hope you enjoy.
This is probably the only video for November 2019 I'll post. That's sad. :(

The Scott Johnson artwork gives me the nostalgia feels
Same
Uhh mark bagley.
Me too
@@chiarapalazzotto3229 Same. My introduction into Spider-Man wasn't even the comics or the films. It was Johnson's art
Same idk wh
I'm sure there's a lot of people who think Steve Ditko drew Spider-Man better than all the artists who came after him.
Well, Steve Ditko' IS the guy that 'defined' Spider-Man.
@markditko4363
John Romita did.
Steve ditko is my personal favorite
John Romita Sr's style is what I see in my head when I think of Spider-Man's definitive look, but Romita Jr is my all-time favorite. I loved how lanky he made Spider-Man
I think you have forgotten Stuart Immonen’s art as Spider-man. Honestly,it’s one of the most beautiful ones I have ever seen.
Ryan Ottley is my favourite I just love his angular style and it looks realistic as well as cartoony in a way which makes it perfect for comics
I just love how blocky yet dynamicJohn Romita Jr's spiderman looks
A perfect ranking . And props to you for not including Steve Ditko on this list ,for it have been dishonoring.
My favorite is between Mark Bagley and the Toddfather
You left out the GREAT "GERRY CONWAY"! WOW! His art and the stories he worked on were DEFINITIVE!!!
I thought of him more as a writer. But yes, he left a big mark on Spider-Man. With the death of Gwen Stacy, to having a deeper focus on internal conflict rather than external.
There have been many better
Did Scott johnson do all the marvel art for merchandising? Because that was the artwork of all the marvep merchandise on laye 2000s to early 2010s
My favorites per order are:
Ross Andru, John Romita Sr., Gil Kane, Mark Bagley, John Byrne, John Romita Jr., Sal Buscema, Ron Frenz, Jim Mooney, Alex Saviuk, Mike Zeck, John Buscema, Steve Ditko, Larry Lieber, Todd McFarlane.
Here’s one that I think nobody talks about
patrick scherberger
I love his earlier work the most but his later work is still cool, just not as great as the older ones, the farther he went on the more “out there” his art became, I think he just went a bit too far. His earlier work has my favorite design of spidey, maybe tied with mark bagley’s. But his work is awesome, but for some reason I never hear people talk about his work. Not in a positive or negative light, I just wish more people talked about his art
Glad to hear you’d put Steve Ditko in the top five.
Your assessments are clearly a young persons take on something. It’s like stating that the iPhone is history’s greatest invention over “the wheel” or Guttenbeg’s printing press.
1:33 I used to have a lunchbox this, and it has a illusion Where u tilt it and the red and blue suit turns into the venom suit
I love how romita jrs style has changed over the years, and since he's done so much Spidey over the last 40 years, you can track that evolution so well. Starting so similar to his dad, then his bulkier Spidey of the mid 90s, his more slender, iconic run with JMS and even his latest stuff continues to show growth. I agree though that modern coloring doesn't really do him justice. Think that's part of the reason his Superman feels so awkward to me
No one talks about Mike Deodato JR.
Ditko started out drawing an actual spider man, everyone else was just drawing spiderman
Very true!
But he didn't remain like that. His Spider-Man morphed into a muscle bound hero. Just look at #33. More muscles than anything Romita did.
John Romita Snr. is the definitive Spider-Man Artist for me. Steve Ditko provided the framework for him in the years of him finishing drawing Spider-Man.
Honestly, Amazing Spider-Man #33 is Steve Ditko at his absolute best. That panel where Spider-Man lifts the machinery off of him is absolutely incredible artwork and such an iconic moment.
I really liked Andrus work, I thought it took JRs style and added a detailed city behind it. Reallt underrated.
What a great list of talent.
I will say my favorite is Mark Bagley but his position is justified given the other artists in similiar places on your list.
I also liked Humberto Ramos
The Scott Johnson art work on Spider-Man was my introduction to the idea of Spider-Man, as well as Spectacular Spider-Man though I was 2 or 3 years old around that time.
What do you think of Tom Lyle's art for Spiderman ?
I think that Paolo Rivera is overlooked.
He has this super clean geometric design for him that is classic but altered enough to be fresh. he also gives Spider-Man a resting bitch face and it works so well!
Scott Johnson gives me nostalgia
I love all of them tbh
Dell'Otto for the win!
Honestly haven't read a lot of Spidey comics (And especially modern ones.), but so far, I'd definitely say my favorites would be Mark Bagley, Steve Ditko, John Romita Sr., Mike Zeck, Alex Ross, Ross Andru, Ron Frenz, John Romita Jr., Tim Sale, and Gil Kane.
Ditko is number 1. Period. No exceptions.
Yes!!!
Nope. Romita all the way. Ditko's work was ugly even to me as a kid. It looked like it was set in the 1940s not the swinging sixties. Best thing to ever happen to Spider-Man was Ditko leaving in a huff and Romita redefining the character forever.
Great work 😘😁🤩
Todd McFarlane drew the Spider-Man I grew up with, Hes gotta be higher on the list if I made it. He put Spider-Man into those exaggerated poses and he created the spaghetti webbing to name a couple things aside from Ditko and Romita Sr. Id have to say Todd drewbthe next most influential Spider-Man. He defined Spider-Man for kids who were born in the 80s and grew up in the 90s.
I really can't believe you left Steve Ditko off the list.
I agree with you about modern coloring. It has pretty much broken many of the styles of authors like Frank Miller or John Romita Jr. I think with respect to these two artists, the approach to their styles is so crude with anatomies with an archaic and grotesque air that applying color that attempts to render such volumes ends up however twisting said anatomy even more out of the vision of the illustration that the cartoonist had conceived in the first place.
It's like trying to give great volume to the work of Tim Sale or even Bruce Timm. It's not an aesthetic conceived for that bad modern rendering.
With Humberto Ramos, for example, they've been able to coexist the style quite well with the colorist Edgar Delgado.
I love Dell'Otto's variant covers
Todd Mcfarlane is my favorite Spider-man artist
Scott Johnsons stuff be super nostalgic😩
Bagley is just goated
I think of ryan ottley's style of spiderman when i envision spiderman
Agree on Romita Snr! I personally am more for Ross Andru though!
There is Romita, then the rest.
Perfect choice for #1.
Scott Johnson?
No Ditko?
Nice countdown, Some of these artist I was aware, but not by their names ...Scott Johnson and Patrick Brown, those two are like the mainstream commercial side of Spider-man ...hows about honorable mention like John Byrne, it's like Ditko meets Joe Shuster and he did stuff before Ultimate comics too, I'd always thought John Buscema was the artist that tried to copy or duplicate John Romita Sinnor and I thought John Romita Jr was like a clean cut very of Frank Miller in my opinion, he is very good, but I feel it goes well with raw comics like Kick-ass and Robocop and Wanted you get my drift and my last choice would be BRUCE TIMM yes the guy who drew BTAS (Batman the animated series) but when he draws spidey, it can be great for a new series or animation show !!! but good video WELL DONE
No ditko
John Romita, Sal Buscema, Steve Ditko, Ross Andru, John Romita Jr, Gil Kane, Ron Frenz. These guys destroyed any garbage artists who came after them
Don't forget Jim Mooney.
1)Bagely
2) Larsen
3) J Scott Campbell
4) McFarlane.
Ryan Stegman needs a full run with Donny Cates writing! ⛓⛓⛓
todd did spiderman the best number 4? you crazy
Pretty good list, I would have ranked Gil Kane higher though, and you forgot about one of the best Spidey artists of all time, John Byrne, who in the 70's and early 80's was the best in the business.
The bigger the lenses the better imo
Erik Larsen
i am the #1 ditko suit glazer and #2 scott johnson glazer
Wow Ditko not even in the top 15
Ya! Crazy.
I personally love Chris Bachalo's artstyle alot
My ranking:
1. John Romita
2. Tim Sale
3. Steve Ditko
4. Todd Mcfarlane
5. Alex Ross
6. Erik Larsen
7. Ron Frenz
8. Sal Buscema
Todd McFarlane is the best
It always goes back to Ditko, it has to. Those first 40 issues set the scene.
The rest? Well there's Ross Andru, Gil Kane, John Romita, and McFarlane was certainly responsible for the modern dynamic look even if it looks ridiculously cartoonish at times.
My favorite artist is Mark Bagley.
Ultimate spiderman
@@dxsupreme9419 Same
My top picks
Gil Kane
Ross Andru
Mark Bagley
Ryan Stegman
Todd McFarlane
Todd Nauck
Ryan Ottley
Romita sr. and Ditko followed by the Buscema Bros., Early Romita jr., Bagley, McFarlane.
Other recent artists obviously talented, just not my style of art.
No Ditko? Bogus list imho.
Ya, that startled me too!
#1 Sal Buscema
#2 erik Larsen
#3 mark bagley
No Humberto Ramos 😢
Mark bagley
My favourite is mark bagley
Romita Sr. the best of the best.
Ryan ottley's my fav!
Todd mcfarlane is my favourite
I am sorry but I disagree with you, why? Because you put Alex Ross in the mix. Alex Ross is most of the time a cover artist. The rest of the artists draw the 32 pages of Spider-Man. I love Alex Ross but if the list was cover artists then Hell yeah he's number one in my book. The list should have been artists who had a run in spiderman.
I just can't agree with half of these... No Tom Lyle, no Alex Saviuk, no Terry Dodson and no Mike Wieringo. No.
Call me crazy but I think J. Scott Campbell draws great woman but doesn't draw men characters that well.
Putting Kane at the bottom of this list is laughable.
1.Mark Bagley
2.Todd Mcfarlane
3.Pat Olliffe
4.David Lafuente
5.Sal Buscema
6.Marcos Martin
7.Mark Buckingham
8.Ron Frenz
9.John Romita Jr
10.Scott Johnson
A top ten without Romita is just silly.
Erik Larsen easy
If you are going to rank Ditko then go ahead and rank him. If you dont rank him then dont apologize for it. You ruined the video with that awkward phrasing
Ya, that did make the ending a bit strange. ... Dr. Strange 😂
Patrick Brown is way better than Humberto Ramos
Bro didnt even mention the GOAT Paolo Rivera
Great work 😘😁🤩
