6:03 "Make it look cool. We're in the cool business right?" Man I love Todd some much and his art is one my inspirations for my art style. Stay gold Todd and can't wait to see your new stuff 🤙🏽
5:57 actually. But yes, Todd's art along with Leifeld (I find his artstyle underrated and looks awesome in some way) helped pave the way for stylized comic book and cartoon art.
Todd please don't say your wasting our time. I can imagine the camera guy needing to leave but what your sharing is invaluable. You said it your self I look back and... your art is much appreciated and what drives you is inspiration to others. Todd your a sensei.
I just noticed that Todd is left handed. That's awesome! One of my favorite artists is a lefty like me. That makes me happier than it probably should, lol.
Brice Drake same here! i have been drawing for about seventeen years and as a lefty i think i should draw on the computer, i always mess my lines with my hand : D
In junior high school I was already a fan of Spider-Man before McFarlane, but when McFarlane took the helm I was blown the hell away. Imagine something you love very much, getting exponentially better. It was astounding to me the artwork from those Spidey comics.
Love hearing the backstory to all of your techniques and drawings . These videos are like drugs and I learn so much. You are awesome for making these videos for your fans Todd!! GOAT
I saw your interview on Complex, your a true inspiration. In art but what amazed me was how much more you inspire in the business world. Keep on not giving a fuck Todd! GOAT
Todd say on his Facebook page that now you can see everybody using his spaghetti webbing and he's right. I'm currently reading a few different Spider-Man titles and they all have that same webbing. I love it.
Michael Golden came up with that web style years before Todd touched spider-man comics. He even had to admit it and now he's back to claiming he did it on his own.
This is so great. Todd these webs changed my life. Sounds silly but they did. They taught me to not accept the status quo many years ago. Everything can be cooler. Thank you for your vision and creativity. So happy I found your channel. Going to watch all these!!!
Todd used to mention where he really got the webbing from. He obviously doesn't here. Golden did them first in 1981 www.cbr.com/comic-legends-the-secret-origin-of-spider-mans-spaghetti-webbing/
I started collecting comics just before Spider-man #1 came out. Loved Todd's style. Had a poster of that first issue's cover on my wall too. Remember doodling Spaghetti webs at work! 😂
Thank you for these great videos. Glad to finally be taught directly by Todd. Thumbs up! It would have been nice to watch our Marvel man Stan too, give us some insight on how to. Nice work, he's very careful and steady about what he's doing. I can see why he's got some of the most realistically detailed sculpts and figures in his brand.
Todd, if you had that software back in the 90's, you could have just done a few different angles of the spaghetti webbing and save the file on your computer and that would have made it so much easier on you but you truly did make Spiderman cool with the way toy draw him and today's Spiderman just feels kinda wimpy.
Todd used to put so much detail into his panels, which clearly must've taken ages, that I almost used to get anxiety attacks just looking at the damn stuff! Especially as at the time, I wanted to be a comicbook artist myself. Probably a good thing I didn't as I very much doubt I'd have been able to handle the pressure and deadlines! (I worked at quite a slow pace).
What Todd did, is he found comic artists that couldn't really cut it. Crooked anatomy etc, and applied for their jobs. That is how he got into the industry if I am not mistaken
Hey Todd! Can u do that with a spawn full body and cape picture? Just for fun and watching a master artist at work! Thanks brother God bless!! Just want to see how u drawn spawn...
McFarlane Toys Hey Todd, such a massive fan of your work. You’re a true pioneer (“We’re not worthy!”). Anyway, just wondering what equipment you use? I’m trying to refine my techniques for tattooing and want to start working with a tablet. Would absolutely treasure some advice! Cheers mate.
When he talks about how a single piece of webbing would take hours to consistently go through a double spread page, that's why comics are like $3.99 an issue now. I've never complained about buying a Spawn comic because I've always gotten my money's worth. People said you can't sell toys for $30.00+ and Todd said "yes you can, you just have to give them $30 of value".
I think if the coloring of the webs back then were more refined, and those individual strands were rendered separately rather than color the entire bundle that grayish purple tone, it would've looked a tenth more badass. It would've had that 3D effect you were goin for. You were just hindered by the 90s tech at the time which might've been still hand painted.
And unlike today's pros he created a new character and the character was black and everybody loved the character because he was cool. Today all they do is change the ethnicity, gender or whatever of established heroes and think that is enough to make them cool or relevant. And woe to you if you do not like what they did.
This man will never get old

Bringing back memories of Stan Lee asking young Todd to show the viewers how he draws webs. (Comic book greats).
The Greatest Drawing Vids ever !
The Rob Liefeld one was pretty excrutiating! You could almost see Stan thinking, "How the hell has this kid got into the business?!"
This man is a genius. He revolutionized so many things. He is like the great Renaissance painters and artists.
Todd please don't say your wasting our time. I can imagine the camera guy needing to leave but what your sharing is invaluable. You said it your self I look back and... your art is much appreciated and what drives you is inspiration to others. Todd your a sensei.

Same here! I like to draw too
V WW use a piece of paper over what you've drawn to not rub it.
Brice Drake Lefty artist here too, it's honestly heartwarming. Makes up for all of the scissor difficulties I had in school
Lefties Assemble !
I would doodle these in middle school ALL THE TIME! My favorite Spider-Man Artist!!
Ikr
In junior high school I was already a fan of Spider-Man before McFarlane, but when McFarlane took the helm I was blown the hell away. Imagine something you love very much, getting exponentially better. It was astounding to me the artwork from those Spidey comics.
Todd you are still the GREATEST!!!!!
Love hearing the backstory to all of your techniques and drawings . These videos are like drugs and I learn so much. You are awesome for making these videos for your fans Todd!! GOAT
Whenever I've drawn Spider-Man over the years, I've always used McFarlane's webs as the basis! I love them!
we are in the cool business Mr. McFarlane. You rock thank you sir
This is the kind of guy you could spend a few hours and a few beers with just learning about the craft of comic book draftsmanship.
I saw your interview on Complex, your a true inspiration. In art but what amazed me was how much more you inspire in the business world. Keep on not giving a fuck Todd! GOAT
Hours to do the webbing, but definitely paid off, and makes spidey's webbing look so much better and detailed. Amazing work!
How did I not realize until today that Todd McFarlane is responsible for the quíntese spidey web?!
Todd say on his Facebook page that now you can see everybody using his spaghetti webbing and he's right. I'm currently reading a few different Spider-Man titles and they all have that same webbing. I love it.
All time favorite artist! Thanks Todd! For being an awesome part of childhood!
Michael Golden came up with that web style years before Todd touched spider-man comics. He even had to admit it and now he's back to claiming he did it on his own.

Todd popularized the webs but Michael Golden gets the credit for creating their look 6 years before Todd took "inspiration" from them
Todd, I for one am super happy you developed that look! You are the master.
Awesome And CREATIVE Thanks Todd ♥♥♥
2022 and it's still gold
Please do more live drawings. I could watch these all day.
Truly passionate about the trade
Dam this dude is awesome he really wanted to do something different i always admire his drawing style
I wish Todd was still drawing Spidey, Todd truly is one of a kind.
If Todd wasn’t a famous and succesful artist that shaped the industry, this would be one of the craziest videos on youtube.
I always loved his web action!
Love that you brought this webbing element to the Dpidey comics mythos.
Todd is such an amazing role model
I'm drawing Spider-Gwen and I needed to do some webbing, so I came to the King! Thank you, for this, and for everything Todd!
Awesome! To this day my favorite artist for spider-man is Todd. The attention to detail!!
Dude Todd McFarlane could never waste my time!!!! I put this guy on the top shelf of art greats! him and frank frazetta!
When I was reading Spider-Man comics, that was the thing that got my attention the most. It is nice to see its inventor and his thought process.
such an enjoyment to watch you work Todd!
This is so great. Todd these webs changed my life. Sounds silly but they did. They taught me to not accept the status quo many years ago. Everything can be cooler. Thank you for your vision and creativity. So happy I found your channel. Going to watch all these!!!
Every video I watch Todd looses his shit at how easy things are with the Stroke tool hahaha
Todd McFarlane is a goddamn legend.
Art history at it's best!!! I can't believe he gave the webs shadows!! Wow!
You are so very talented Sir Mcfarlane, thank you for sharing
The cheater stroke brush has a really cool Alphonse Mucha Art Nouveau vibe to it without the extra lines. I dig it.
So rad you show us so fun to watch
how can Todd think that he is wasting our time!!!? todd is an awesome and humble artist :)
I think he has major ADD and wants to move on to do something else. He's projecting his need to move on to us :)
Todd your work has been in my life since I was a kid copying your spaghetti webs. Thanks for the videos, you are the man.
I like how Todd keeps repeating "towards the camera" even though it's towards the reader. It's more of the illusion of the camera
You made me love art again sir, thank you for being CDO
i've got Amazing Spider-Man #300 framed on the wall and sure enough he did do this. CRAZY!!! How GENIUS of Todd and that's why he is a LEGEND!!!!!
holy shit, and to think I would practice trying to imitate you style of webbing for weeks on end. my goodness. you truly are a master.
Always fun videos to watch but a shout out to Adams & Golden for inspiring "Spaghetti Webs".
Todd used to mention where he really got the webbing from. He obviously doesn't here. Golden did them first in 1981 www.cbr.com/comic-legends-the-secret-origin-of-spider-mans-spaghetti-webbing/
I love MCfarlnes Spider-Man Drawings and art work I have Spider-Man #1 Spider-Man #13 the amazing Spider-Man #300 and the amazing Spider-Man #301
This is super fascinating
I started collecting comics just before Spider-man #1 came out. Loved Todd's style. Had a poster of that first issue's cover on my wall too. Remember doodling Spaghetti webs at work! 😂

Everybody say it with me!
*WEB SWING!*
Thank you Mr. McFarlane and the intervie you did with Complex: Blueprint totally inspiring to me as content creator. Continued success in everything.
At 1:30 when he backed it out then summed in back in it looked like 3d like floors to a building
So happy one of my favourite artists and all-time inspirations draws with the same hand as me.
Lol i draw with both hands lol now im your favorite artist
THANK YOU TODD!
I love your comics
Still can't believe how influential Todd was for spider-man, and comics in general.
Todd, if you had that software back in the 90's, you could have just done a few different angles of the spaghetti webbing and save the file on your computer and that would have made it so much easier on you but you truly did make Spiderman cool with the way toy draw him and today's Spiderman just feels kinda wimpy.

It become a time that I spend more time admiring the web, then reading the history...
Todd you ara so amazing!
Freaking beautiful thank you
Amazing 👏
This is badass
💀Todd Mcfarlane💀 is my spirit animal
That's Marvel-ing!
This video is so outstanding. Thank you so much!🖤♠️

You might have done it but how do you make the web look when it hits the wall or face or body or what ever or everything else
When he talks about how a single piece of webbing would take hours to consistently go through a double spread page, that's why comics are like $3.99 an issue now. I've never complained about buying a Spawn comic because I've always gotten my money's worth. This explains everything! #thesecretishardfrackingwork #thankyoutodd
Absolutely fucking genius
Wish I could be like this when i grow older
This helps so much
The Next Stan-Lee 🔥 💯
Big fan of his art, but you can hear the alcohol in his voice. Nothing wrong with a few drinks and some spiderman! I'm in lol
stan loved your webs
Imagine saying no to this.

Nah they were fired rapidly and mean to be thin multiple threads the shading would've gave them unneeded depth.
How would you draw the webs attached to things
I know someone posted down below what tablet it is, a Wacom Cintiq, which exact model is it though?
Can someone please please tell me what program he’s using? Please
Wow Amazing tip i will take it on account 🕸🕸
'When I was young and ambitious." I think that's exactly what you had that the modern day younger comic artists lack... ambition.
An even more appropriate point is this 6:00, "we are in the cool business", as opposed to the left-wing social engineering business.
Scott Fossil Good point, Scott
And unlike today's pros he created a new character and the character was black and everybody loved the character because he was cool. What program are you using? Photoshop? Illustrator?
El Diablo Blanco its photoshop
Thanks! Of course I don't have that program.... grrrrrrr... got illustrator and Painter though...
It looks like a fantastic program.. probably take me forever to learn how to use it though lol
@@macorte1972 you will get the same practice using marker or pen you still have to apply proper pressure even with the software. Hope this helps.
