    Little bit of correction: 24000kbps of bitrate means that every second you're writing 24 MEGABITS of data. 8 megabits make up to 1 megabyte, which means that, when you have 24000kbps of bitrate, every second you're writing only 3 megabytes, not 24... If that was the case, bitrate should have been to 192000kbps... Hope that helps. Great video tho

    Listen to this man word for word. I wish I seen this video before I started recording content for my channel. Hours of game play deleted because the video quality was horrible. I got my elgato just threw it in there connected it to my console and tried to record in 4K. Don’t be me

    Thanks for the info. My only suggestion here would be to use MKV and not MP4 because if OBS crashes or any other issues, you will lose your entire recording. MKV will not be lost. You can then Remux your MKV to MP4 within OBS. MKV also works with multi audio tracks.

    • @theos7291
      @theos7291 2 роки тому

      how do you convert it to mp4 within obs?

    • @1upCAD
      @1upCAD 2 роки тому +2

      @@theos7291 there’s a setting that you can turn on to automatically remux when you end recording. Settings > Advanced > “Automatically remux to mp4”.
      Otherwise, you can manually remux by going to File > Remux Recordings. Pick your MKV on the left and choose the destination on the right.

      It's a good idea when you're recording multiple hour sessions. I do recordings that are only 5 or 10 minutes each, so I have never had a crash. If I did, I woudl just re-record.

    Thanks so much! I’m on a MacBook Air m2 and I was getting the cpu overload with these settings. I then dropped the nitrate from 45000 down to 4000 and it’s working perfectly. Quality looks great and everything seems fine. I read online that 4000-6000 is optimal but your recommendations are soooo much higher. Also when I drop to 4000 it reduce the mo4 file size from 1.4gb (4 minutes recording) to 160mb! Not sure if the quality suffers to my eyes but maybe my eyes aren’t trained enough?

      well i think since his OBS was busy being demo'd he probably just used his laptop's built in screen recorder that defaulted to 1080p? I've heard that you can have multiple instances of OBS running to do this though.

    Thanks for the suggestions, especially the advanced options in the recording section.
    I experienced dropped frames when trying to record 4K gameplay of Monster Hunter World with OBS Studio on the same computer, because the GPU was already 99 percent occupied with 3D rendering, and the CPU was too slow to do x264 encoding. Ended up using the GeForce ShadowPlay, which required less resource.

    I've just seen a 16TB external hard drive on Currys for £320... a LOT cheaper than I thought it was going to be, I remember back in 2011 when a 16GB SD card was like £32. I thought the 16TB drive was going to be like £650 easily.
    This tutorial was incredible and EXACTLY what I needed. I love your energy, I also love that you finally gave permission to hit "ok" haha.

    Thank you, just manually placing 3840x2160 gives 4k. Tried it, recorded video, played video and sure enough the resolution box was exactly a 4k screen. Nice video. All this time I thought OBS was capped at 1920x1080

    • @100Bucks

      @@tejasmore7441 In OBS there's an (input) and a (output). Let's say you wanna record a 720p windowed game running on the PC. 1280x720 is the input. You wanna upload the video in a 4k screen, so your output in OBS would be 3840x2160. It's that simple. Or you could do it this way. Place your input and output both on 720p to make the process faster. Then use another program called handbrake to convert the 720p video to 4k and compress the video at the same time. 2 methods.

    MAN YOU WERENT LYING. I followed the video, only to hear the graphics card part at the end. I wanted to test it, and all i did was start a full screen recording of your youtube video. a 30second video took up over 300mb but i had an 11min 1080p video previously recorded that was like 400mb?!
    and the CPU usage was over 40% during the recording. I didnt even start a game! crap! I'm going to have to revert the settings there's no way i can do it yet.
    Thank you so much for this video i need to invest in an nvidia card before i do 4k.

    I was having so much trouble with this. I have a Nvidia Card but it's a T1200 in a precision laptop. I mostly use it for Solidworks and Engineering tasks. I kept having errors when selecting the card as the encoder but I updated windows and now it seems to work. 60FPS I think is making my game recording look a little stuttered but when setting my PS5 to graphics mode for the game and then setting OBS as 30 FPS the recording looks great. I was about to go buy a new desktop but this video just saved me all that time and money. Thank You!

    If your using OBS studio to record games like GTA 5 or Red Dead Redemption 2 your have to use 30 fps not 60, 60 will make your recorded video choppy, everything else is correct. I tried so hard to use the 60fps to work in video settings and all I got was a choppy mess, and I'm running a RTX 3080ti

    As a gamer,
    If you got a cpu and have to use x264 and don't have an Nvidia GPU,
    then the Ryzen 5600 processor can do 4k 60 fps recording on the ultrafast preset. Don't go slower above "ultrafast".
    At 11:20 he set x264 to "veryfast" and that is where he went wrong. Set your CRF to 20 (the lower the number the better the quality and more space is used on your hard drive), do not use CBR or VBR since it is a waste of hard drive space. By telling your cpu do the x264 recording you can let your gpu handle your game and give you smoother fps for recording gameplay.

    My iMac happily records 4k with around 12% CPU usage with the X264 codec. Apple iMac Retina 5K (27 ", Intel Core i7-10700K, 72 GB RAM, 512 GB, SSD), around 2500 USD. Which is a thousand dollars cheaper than the laptop and comes with a 27" screen instead of 15". Disadvantage: Not portable much :D
