    Setting up OBS Studio mic settings and mic filters is something that might look complicated at first, but which is very straightforward when breaking it down. In this video, we'll add the 3-band equalizer filter, a compressor filter, expander filter, a limiter, we'll also remove background noise in OBS and at the end I will show you how to use OBS filters on Discord or in-game. All of these obs mic filters are the same in Streamlabs OBS, so you could follow this video for that program too.

After following along with the video and tweaking with my microphone I did a couple of streams and people in my chat and my community have said that the quality is a lot better or in their words "it's like you've bought a new freakin' microphone!" and I don't blow peoples ear drums any more every time I scream or laugh which is a big improvement! :D

    @The Video Nerd, I am having a slightly different issue to what you described in this video. So a little background, I wanted to set up an audio source in OBS to record audio directly from my headphones for 2 purposes: 1) recording single player gameplay with live commentary so I didnt have to worry about my mic picking up game sounds from my tv's audio set up (subwoofer and a couple of speakers that are about 3 ft in front of where i'm sitting) and 2) for recording multiplayer gameplay where all I really need is to capture what my friends are saying in a Discord voice channel. I ran a test on this thinking that if i am capturing a Desktop Audio source, that that would give me my game sounds, and then if I also captured the Headset Audio source at the same time, then I'd have a near identical track of gameplay audio + any voice communications captured in discord. The idea being that if both tracks were more or less identical, I could mute or delete one track in the editing software and enhance what i needed to in the headphones track to make speech sound good without sacrificing the sounds of the gameplay. When I ran a test on this both with and without the invert polarity filter, i ran into a major problem: OBS isnt capturing the gameplay audio through my headphones. This is with the desktop audio capture source active. it comes out at a very low volume, extremely choppy and in short, there is nothing i can do to clean that track up in post. its just too far gone. if i record with the invert polarity filter active, i get absolutely nothing. not even the choppiness i got in the first test. What do I do about this? I tried using the Discord Streamkit widget for voice, and I dont like that because i don't get a visual decibel bar in OBS to confirm that it is working. I tried installing Voicemeeter Banana to do it that way for discord voice audio capture and that just wrecked my pc's audio settings and it took me three days to figure out where the problem was to fix it and get my headset working again. The application capture beta source in OBS doesnt work either because it won't give me an option to select a voice channel for it to capture from. I'm at a bit of a loss here. what am i doing wrong and how do i fix it? I really kind of have a need for content creation to have this kind of a setup, but as it currently exists, its kind of letting me down pretty badly, and thats without mentioning the popping and crackling that shows up on the track when i send the file to my editing software that didnt exist in OBS when I set up my microphone and headphones and applied all the necessary filters to get a good baseline recording. Please help

    A tip for people out there. The VST 2 plugin called Frontier by d16 does (sort of) take care of everything at once like the expander, compressor, gain, saturation, and primarily the limiter stuff all in one box with only two knobs. I think that's pretty neat.

      you need to install a certain thing to use the noise suppression. cant remember what its called. It's like nvidia broadcast or something like that.

    After applying these effects and using them in a video, I got really poor feedback from my audience on the sound. And now I've gone back to removing them all and post editing my audio. It would be great if you explain the audio clipping in more detail as this destroyed the audio quality of my recording. Also it seems important that when you have all these settings on you have to stay super still and close to the mic.

      @aceboogiegames Рік тому +4

      I haven't had any clipping nor did I have to stay still or close to the mic while streaming. Did mess around with the EQ? You are supposed to make sure it sounds good to you first.

      @delightfuldesign not all mic's are same, you have to listen to yourself and adjust the settings, next time don't skip anything and watch a full video before blaming someone :)

    Great setup tutorial. I just bought a HyperX Solocast as my first ever microphone to start streaming and was a bit disapointed by how much it was capturing my keyboard and mouse. Now with this configuration it's sounding way better. Thanks for the tips!

    Firstly, I want to express my gratitude for your informative and engaging content. I’ve found your videos extremely helpful, especially when it comes to demystifying the complexities of OBS.
    I have a small suggestion that I believe could enhance the learning experience for your viewers, including myself. During the sections where you go through configuration settings, would it be possible to slow down the pace a bit? This would really help in ensuring we can follow along more effectively and implement the settings as you describe them.
    I understand that covering content thoroughly can be challenging within a limited time, but even a slight reduction in pace could make a significant difference. This adjustment would not only aid in better understanding but also allow viewers to appreciate the nuances of what you're teaching.
    Thanks again for your dedication to sharing your knowledge and expertise. Looking forward to your upcoming content!
