    dude, thank you. I lost about 3 hours worth of recording because I couldn't fix the quality unless I put in tons of manual work with clips I already spent hours editing. I watched other videos and not a single one told me i'd have to do everything manually if I didn't already record in 2k you are a beautiful person and you didn't take 80 years to get to the point thank you!

    I prefer CQP to CBR. Since I am recording gameplay and action videos, it scales bitrate to achieve desired quality depending upon motion. The look ahead feature plays a big part. Storage is much more efficient at around a gigabyte per minute with the settings I use. During scenes with fast movement the bitrate will typically go over 100,000 kbps, while scenes with little to no movement drop to around 20,000 or less and there is no discernable change in quality. Cheers!

    • @Poroner
      @Poroner 4 місяці тому

      I don't see how storage is much more efficient and you are talking about 1gb/m
      That's insane even for a 2K recording. 25k-30k is recommended for 2k recordings, 35K if you want to go overboard. 25K recordings are about 200mb/m. Reaching 100k bitrate is just the overkill of overkills and nobody is going to notice a difference.

    Love your videos they are extremely helpful. I just wanted to clarify that when you set the bitrate for 16Mbps(16000kbps) this is not recording 16MB/sec to your harddrive as you mentioned in this video. 1 byte = 8 bits therefore you have to divide 16MB/sec by 8 which works out to 2MB/sec written to your hard drive. Its about 120MB for every minute of recording.

    Thank you, new to recording gaming from my pc. Set OBS to record gameplay last week and the quality has been horrible. Just did a test run heading to the tower in Destiny 2, ran around, CPU usage never got above 0.8% and the recorded movement is so much better. Thanks again.

    I have watched several videos now of yours and they are truly helpful and I appreciate them all. Thank you. I did want to mention something though, maybe I am wrong but I believe you have been referring to the bit rates such as 16k or 24k bit rates as being 16,000 kilobytes instead of the actual 16,000 kilobits. Usually when the symbol or abbreviation is Kb it is kilobit and KB is kilobyte. So to sum up, when you mentioned that 24,000 is 24MB or 24 megabytes per second it is actually about 3 MB/s or 3 megabytes per second. For those who do not know anyways and may never really need to know I guess all will be fine, but on a professional level I thought you may be interested in knowing this. Cheers mate and keep up the quality videos, I have learned much from them.

    Love the video bro! Straight to the point and love your personality!
    Quick Question: when I look back at the recording, it is a little choppy. Is that because the bit rate was too high and my computer couldn't process it fast enough? I had it up to 40,000 based on what someone else said for recording 2k gaming videos. I figured it was too high but tried it and got a laggy recording. I see you say to use 16 to 24,000. This should help with that and still get a good picture right?

    7:22 You said "16 megabytes per second", that was not only the wrong unit of data, but the wrong conversion as well. 16,000 Kbps is 16,000 kiloBITS per second, not kiloBYTES per second. Streaming at 16,000 kilobits per second would convert to 2,000 kilobytes per second. You are off by 14,000 kilobytes per second, and as a self proclaimed "digital marketing executive" who apparently consults 'multi-million dollar deals and streamers making six-figures' as you put it, you are erroneously consulting them incorrect information and making them plan their business/go-to-market strategy by 14,000 kilobytes, which is really, really bad if you quantify it.

  • @tianjohn.gaming

    Overall a very good and easy to understand guide. But I have a problem - The image is just blurry (and I am not talking about the low bitrate thing) it relates to the video preview-Image as well as to the recording image as well as when I stream. The image is just not sharp. I have set all the resolutions in the settings to 2560x1440p. The only setting where I can not choose this is in the presets for the source, there I can only choose between a 4k resolution (in which case I don't get a signal because my monitor is not capable) or I can choose 1920x1080p which works. There is also an option to choose "high" but I don't know what that means exactly. Tried everything anyway, but nothing seems to change the blurriness of the image. Do you know how I could fix that?

    • @tianjohn.gaming
      @tianjohn.gaming 9 місяців тому

      I was able to fix it, I don't know why I didn't see this before, but there was a check-box in the source-preset window that says "use presets". When I disabled this, I was able to manually choose a different preset-resolution - in my case 2560x1440. So now that really ALL resolutions are set to the same size, the image is crisp and clear!

      Nooo you need anything under 1080p when your streaming. I do 960 when I stream at 6k bitrate. This is for twitch. You can't really stream in 2k. If you doo it will look really bad because of bitrate limitations. On twitch when you reach partner you get to use more bitrate so you can stream in 1080p.
