    Yeah, Bret was huge for me when I began my lifting journey. I really appreciated his advice and materials. But I started noticing.....things. Things like you pointed out previously. If someone can't take a conversation or disagreement without blocking you...that's pretty sad. I think we all need to be open to some constructive criticism but these days we tend to just stay in our lanes and not listen to anyone else. It's sad because that's how we grow. 👍🏻

    Video Notes:
    You know my thoughts on Bret, but I'll add he seems to be very against more current research on hypertrophy and biomechanics (why he goes after JPGCoaching and Ryan Jewers, though I also suspect he is jealous they are making him less relevant).
    If you did fall, the seismic activity would only be because of how massive you are. Need to do a transformation video with Spud and Bean in the gym, make a video series of it. 🐈🐈

      Study is titled "Gluteus Maximus Activation During Common Strength and Hypertrophy Exercises: A Systematic Review".
      The top 4 exercises were Step-Up variations, followed by Hex Bar Deadlift, followed by 3 types of Hip thrust.

    • @hannahlorna8800
      @hannahlorna8800 Рік тому +2

      Nope
      hip thrust = upper back is elevated on a bench
      glute bridge = upper back is flat on the floor
      KAS glute bridge = the same as a hip thrust but without the full range of motion, only focusing on the top portion of the rep like a pulsing movement, a similar range of motion to a normal glute bridge because of limited ROM in that position

  • @mpauli12
    @mpauli12 Рік тому

    I’m a big fan of the hip thrust and for years have incorporated it in my leg days. Especially at the beginning of my weight training journey. My goal at the beginning was to grow my quads and glutes as big as I could. But lately I’ve been noticing my quads have been taking over more during hip thrust so now I’ve scaled back on the hip thrust and have incorporated more glute bridges. The fun thing about strength training is that there’s really no wrong movement to perform. As long as you’re doing exercises with good form and performing the most effective ones for your goals. I tried Bret’s glute pyramid challenge and it was really effective for growing my glutes and quads. Kinda sucks that he blocked you because I feel as professionals it’s important for other to critique our work. I wouldn’t have expected that from him especially because he’s big on research and academics.

    Hello! I I love your content! I train with Caroline Girvan and she uses a band for hip thrusts...Is the band necessary for this exercise? Does it make glutes working better?

    • @erikacook7323
      @erikacook7323 Рік тому +3

      She does regular hip thrusts just with a band? I suppose that'd force you to push out as you push up and could hit the glute medius, but since that's a MUCH smaller muscle it might fatigue quickly and limit how much you can hip thrust. If you do any unilateral work after, like lunges or step ups, the glute medius is a huge stabilizer so fatigue could affect those movements too. I'd just hip thrust normally and then hit the glute medius at the very end.

    • @erikacook7323
      @erikacook7323 Рік тому +1

      @Patricia R. That's not a bad thing it just might limit your weight like I mentioned, and it's just so important to properly load a huge muscle like the glutes. Using a band and dumbbell at the end could be a really good way to get your glute medius and further fatigue the glute max as well.

  • @erikacook7323
    @erikacook7323 Рік тому +5

    I'd still say the thrust is better than the bridge, even if the bridge has higher activation, because you can load the thrust MUCH heavier.
    If I loaded 400lbs and did a bridge, at the very top where the glutes are working the hardest, gravity is now pulling all that weight down onto my arms and off the glutes. In a thrust all that weight at the top of the movement is being held by the glutes. The only way a bridge would really be superior is if you could somehow use a belt and connect it to a cable machine or something.
    Brett does not come off as likable or anything but he's competent, and honestly he and Jeff Cavaliere basically own my entire posterior chain sooo I can't complain about his results. His bands and bench are great equipment too.
