Jay & Amber, you'll love John Waite singing "Every Time I Think of You" and "Isn't It Time" with The Babys!!!
Definitely need to view The Babys, "Isn't It Time". Great song!!!
Indeed. A millions times better than this. They have been suggested lots before, The Midnight Special clips of course. This is ok mind you.
All good songs!
It’s J for Jordan ;)
Yes,The Baby's were awesome
Amber!!!! This song was THE song in 1984. It was everything, everywhere, all at once. It was the song playing on the radio in the car as my oldest sister and I drove to the hospital as my Dad passed away that September. I wasn't quite 13 years old. So needless to say, John Waite's Missing You always takes me back to that singular moment of my life.
I'm so sorry. I hope the song isn't too painful to hear now with what happened then.
"hold fast"! (1Thess.5 :21)
Bingo.. Definitely was!! I was 14 when it came out... I am so sorry for your loss!
I always understood this song to be about a guy who really does miss the woman he is singing about, but he tells himself that he does not miss her so that he can deal with the pain better.
He talks about ...."no matter what my friends say " .....which makes me think his friends can see that he really misses her, but he is in denial. Also, when he says " I can lie to myself " I took that to mean he can lie about not missing her to help him feel better, but it is still a lie because he really does miss her.
Exactly
That is indeed precisely what it means
Agreed. I broke off a relationship because I feared that my boyfriend was embarking on a new path when graduating from college, but pretended otherwise. I felt these lyrics...just gonna tell myself and others that I didn't miss him. But I did. Stupid mistake on my part.
Yeah, I noticed they sort of got it but not really. In reality this song is a bit sad. Fantastic feel.
That’s exactly what it is about.. does anyone think differently
Huge hit. Heavy rotation on MTV back in the early 80's. There's also great version of this done as a duet between Waite and Alison Krauss, who has one of the most beautiful voices in the business.
Waite was the lead vocalist for The Babys ,which had a big hit with 'Every Time I Think of You.'
I'm pretty sure Brooks and Dunn did an awesome version of this song in the 90's as well.
@@ATMyles it’s soooo good. She is an angel and her voice works well with John’s
Alison was back up on this original song. ❤
John Waite evolved from "The Babys" in the 70's and 80's to solo (this song and others) on to "Bad English" and more. Great songs include from "The Babys;" "Isn't It Time and "Every Time I Think of You." This song (solo) and "When I See You Smile;" Bad English. A very interesting talent!
I was waiting for someone to mention When I see you smile…. He looks hilarious with the long hair, from those hair band days in Bad English!
i was about to suggest the same three songs!
"Evolved"? Hmmm..
@@MS-ro9dm Exactly....his Solo career and Bad English cant hold a candle to his work with the Baby's. So many clueless people that dismissed the hard rockin Babys simply because of the name of the band. Bob Ezrin produced their 1st album right after Alice Cooper's Welcome to My Nightmare and KISS Destroyer albums. Ezrin doesnt waste his time....he knew they had massive potential.
I was not aware Ezrin had produced their stuff. He was really on a role back then.
John Waite's Missing You was one of the biggest hits of the 80's.
I have always loved this song. It captures so well the struggle after a breakup with heartache and the desperate desire to get over someone you loved so much. 💔
BINGO!
Back to college days with this one. This song was HUGE back in 1984.
I was high school. I remember him on a Dynasty episode.
I had completely forgot this song and it's so so good. What a buildup to a ferocious ending! Glad y'all enjoyed it too.
I actually cried. Fabulous. 🥰 I'd forgotten about this song as well. It's so beautiful and romantic (like Eric Carmen's "Hungry Eyes"). You just close your eyes. Definitely a smooch song!
@@joannecunliffe8067 Yes ma'am!
@@ohfour-seven6228 🤣 So good! Thank you for making me laugh today 🥰
@@joannecunliffe8067 😃
This song was out just after Cory Hart's "Sunglasses At Night." 🙂
This was out in 1984 and I was 16. Oh, the memories.
I always took it that his pride won't let him admit it even though his friends are saying that he is missing you. Even though his heart is breaking down this long distance line tonight.
I brought my HSGF to John Waite, REO Speedwagon, and The Cars at the Saint Paul Civic Center on his Rover's Return tour. He opened the show. This song brings back so many memories. God rest my HSGF. She passed from cancer in 1988. She was only 18. This song brought tears to this ole' veteran's eyes tonight. I still love you as much as the first time I saw you, Julie. Forever and a day. -Me
@TENACIOUSDD214 May you be comforted for that early loss, brother. May her memory always bless you as does this music.
Best thoughts my man. Glad you could remember her with this,
Aww bless❤
Jay & Amber , you guys missed it !
He is singing , I ain't missing you but he really is missing her !
He even sang ,
I ain't missing you despite what my friends say
He wants her back and he still loves her
I know right. Kind of hard to not get the meaning of this song.
He is lying! To her, to us, to himself… Desperate to believe it and make the pain go away.
@Control Z Channel It is hard to miss it, but it sure seems like they did, doesn't it?!
You know he did a follow up to this song called IF YOU EVER GET LONELY
Just like in 10cc's "I'm Not in Love"!
I think about the college job I had when this song came out. I would walk back to my dorm very late at night on campus and when I heard this song I'd think about this college guy not on campus that year and how I had this hidden torch for him (which he either didn't notice or didn't return).
I've been really enjoying your channel. My mother passed away just over a year ago and many of the songs you've reviewed have brought me such joyful memories. Besides that, the content is good.
Just to kind of show you how all these bands intermingle....John Waite used to be the lead singer for a group called The Baby's. Their keyboardist was Jonathan Cain, who eventually became Journey's keyboardist. Jon had written the song, "Open Arms" for The Baby's, but John didn't want to sing it, so when he joined Journey, he showed them. Steve Perry loved it, but the rest of the band, not so much. They recorded and released it anyway, and it was one of their biggest hits.
This song has been in my top ten of the 80’s since it came out.
The irony of this song. This song was always on the radio back when I used to hang out with a co-worker. Somewhere on that line of kind of friends - kind of dating. We lost touch with each other over the years. It doesn't surprise me that it makes me think of him since it was always on the radio then. But it surprises me how true it is - I really miss him. And I agree - It's the line "I can lie to myself" that makes this song.
I used to work at Radio Shack and this old man would come in everyday and ask "Do you'll have any scanners ... and Scanners be everywhere. lol
This song was HUGE in the 80s!! So much emotion. There's been a few good covers over the years. Tina Turner did a good version, and Waite re-recorded as a duet with Allison Krauss that is absolutely gorgeous!
This song brings back so many memories from the 80's. Loved it back then & still love it ❤❤❤❤
This is one of my favorite John Waite songs. I remember this video. Heavy MTV rotation. Another favorite song by him is Change. Great reaction, as always!
John Waite’s “Change” (from the film “Vision Quest”) and “If Anybody Had A Heart” (from the film “About Last Night”) are great songs to check out. :)
He's just trying to convince himself he doesn't miss her, but the rest of the song lyrics make it clear he does miss her and wants her back.
He remade this song with Alison Kraus in the 00’s. Love both versions.
The "I can lie to myself!" line is key. Great tune. Another suggestion for an artist you haven't covered yet is The Time (Prince's creation and "nemesis"). More popular songs of theirs are Jungle Love, The Bird, The Walk, 777-9311, and Jerk Out. Since y'all like Prince, you'll love Morris Day & The Time. Prince wrote pretty much all their music, but they definitely have a vibe all their own.
Great suggestion! Loved Chili Sauce!
@Rev
That came outta right field…
and I LOVE IT!!! 👍👍👍
Love me some Morris Day!
…especially ‘Jungle Love’!
GOTTA be the official video, from the movie
I thought the line was " I keep lying to myself"
Heck Yes! re. The Time. Especially: *Cool*
The Time is a lot of fun!!
This song came out right after my husband left me for someone else. Absolutely tore me up. But I related to it big time. The "I ain't missing you" is denial, fooling yourself, a cover up.....however you want to explain it. Just like in the song..."I can lie to myself" or "no matter what my friends say". It's actually "Still missing you". Thank goodness I got over it!
My mom loved this song..we used to sing this at the top of our lungs when it came on the radio…would give all my $$$ to do that one more time!
You will do it together again one day…she is always with you.
Was part of a John Waite meet and greet several years ago, told him how much his music meant to me, and he gave me a big kiss! His sincerity and honesty shine throughout his music. ❤ 🇬🇧
John Waite's "Missing You" was one of those songs that appeared when I was going through a difficult time in my life and as such, has always been in my music collection waiting to be queued-up whenever I've need to reconnect the dots of my memory and, for whatever reason, go back to that moment when the dark clouds first appeared. Great song.😉 Peace & Love🕊❤
John Waite is such a treasure! Quite a different voice IMHO. ❤️❤️❤️. And yes you need to listen to "Everytime I Think of You"!!! ❤️❤️❤️
My sisters and I would argue about what he was trying to tell us! Was he not missing her or was he just faking it! So funny we never decided what he really wanted! Never mind we loved the song!💕
This was getting airplay the year I met my husband. It’s not the happiest song but it gives me the warm and fuzzies. Great times!
John Waite is awesome and I love his work. You still need to react to "And We Danced" by The Hooters. Great song, great band. Love the reaction, as always! Peace!
And "Day By Day" Same "All You Zombies" for Halloween.
Love this song!! I had just broken up with my boyfriend when this song was released! Made me cry!
Iconic how these songs played into our everyday lives. Same
John Waite had a great solo career, as well as with the bands The Babys and Bad English. Saw him live several years back and he still sounds great.
The latter band, Bad English was almost a Babys reunion with the addition of Journey's Neal Schon.
3 distinct careers
I saw him and Peter Frampton open for Journey back in the 1990s
One of my favorite songs of his is “Change “ from the “ Visionquest” soundtrack, also a Fire 🔥sports movie for a Movie reaction
"When I See You Smile" w/Bad English still holds up pretty well, but his acoustic version of the song is. imo, the better version. More intimate.
You should do a reaction of John Waite & Alison Krauss doing a duet of Missing You.
Brooks & Dunn did a good cover of this song.
John Waite was in a band named Bad English that has a good song called "When I See You Smile" that y'all should check out.
OMG I love love love this song!!! Great 80's song.. We had such a variety of music back then.. 😊👍👌
John Waite, one of the most underrated singers of all time. He was the lead singer of The Babys, Bad English. Isn''t it time, Everytime I think of you, Piece of the action. Time stood still, Straight to your heart,
I was 14 when this came out and had a terrible crush on a girl (Kippie) who I wouldn't see all summer. I wrote her a letter and closed it by saying, in quotes, "I ain't missing you at all"... Unfortunately, she didn't catch the reference and wrote me a very terse letter. I was so broken by her letter, I couldn't even write again to explain that she was all I could think about. Sadly, I was going to a new school and never saw her again. So yes this song will always have a special place for me. What could have been, Kippie.
This song came out when I had just broken up with my boyfriend, the first real love of my life. It was so bad that I couldn’t eat and weighed only 50kg at one stage. This song still reminds me of that time, when I thought I would never get over him, needless to say I did but it took nearly 2 years, he broke my heart so badly.
Oh this is such a good song!!! I'm so glad you did it.
John Waite was the lead singer of The Babys. And later formed Bad English with former Journey band members Neal Schon and Jonathon Cain amongst others. Bad English had some great songs such as 'Possession', 'When I see you smile' and 'Price of love'.
Deen Castronovo was Bad English's drummer. While the Baby's drummer Tony Brock joined Rod Stewart's band.
You guys did When I See You Smile, next should be a rocker like Forget Me Not or Eden!
“Straight To Your Heart” from their 1991 second album was also a banger👍🏼 ua-cam.com/video/appgDoruae0/v-deo.html
Jonathan Cain, not "jonathon"
Don't forget Forget-me-knot. The song was their first single and a truly haunting song. They wrote it based on Anne Rice's Vampire Lestat series.
I saw Waite in 2003 as a member of Ringo and his All-Starr Band. He was the bassist in that lineup, and did Missing You, Isn't It Time (The Babys), and When I See You Smile (Bad English). Others in that group were Shelia E (Prince), Paul Carrack (Squeeze, Mike and the Mechanics and Ace), and Colin Hay (Men at Work).
I seriously despised this song back in the day but I could not love it more now. I don't know if it's nostalgia or just my change in musical tastes but I can sing EVERY word and jam out to it every time!
The 80s was a magical decade for music and I love it when you dive into that era. Corey Hart had some ballads like ‘I am by your side’ and a couple faster paced songs like ‘Tell Me’’. SAN, NS and IABYS are probably his biggest hits, 2 of which you’ve already reacted to. He’s also in the Canadian Artists for famine relief group Northern Lights (1985) along with a few other Canadian artists you’ve reacted to. The lyrics to that song are so powerful. You guys gotta react to that one to complete the circle as you reacted to 2 of the 3 1985 songs for famine relief (Do they know it’s Christmas AND We are the World). There’s an updated version with the artists names and the lyrics included.
John is a great artist. Another great from the 80's that you haven't done near enough of is Richard Marx. I know you loved Right Here Waiting - but he has so many MORE amazing songs. Don't Mean Nothing and It's Too Late to Say Goodbye are a little more upbeat and edgy. My personal fave is called Lonely Heart. Very underated - but a fantastic song. It's a great rabbit hole to go down.
Y'all missed the point on this one. He misses her like crazy. Basically, everywhere he looks, things remind him of her, but he isn't going to let her think he misses her at all ... even if his friends keep telling her something different. He's lying to himself and her. Good song.
I think this was every teenage girl's go-to song after a break up from our long-term relationships of 4 months! 😅 We swore we'd never love another guy, blah blah! 😅
Hey Amber and Jay! I hope you both are doing well. This is one of my favorite songs and I remember when it came out and this takes me back to that summer. I was 12.
Fast forward to last November. I’m driving in my car one evening and listening to some 80s music. My ex and I broke up last year and it still hurts. It was very painful for both of us. Thinking of her that night on the drive, I hear this song. The lyrics? Self-explanatory.
I miss her everything. I miss our movie nights. I miss seeing her, talking to her, listening to her talk, you get it. And the thing is there’s a hole in my heart that hasn’t been filled by anyone since she’s been gone, but you both have helped me find something to look forward to every evening. Somebody once said that happiness is really just having something to look forward to. And I just wanted to tell you both how grateful I am for discovering your channel and getting to know you and your family. THANK YOU
Like the others have said, John Waite had quite the expansive catalog of songs. You’ll definitely be pleased.
🤗🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏
John Waite was lead singer in The Babys when I first heard of him. Head First is a low key banger by The Babys. He was also in Bad English and other projects.
From the 1984 album, " No Brakes", this was a post Baby's hit for John. This first line of this song was a hit song for The Baby's, " Everytime I Think of You".
Just a great tune, written about John's marriage breakup, a lost love he left to find fame and his relationship at the time of writing this song.
Great vocals, lyrics and addictive instrumentation made this song a big hit.
Great reaction. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤❤️ 🇨🇦🇨🇦
He has another song called Change. Also, Tina Turner did a really good version of this song!
Love the song Change. That video and this one merge when the people are pointing up at the ledge as he is walking by. Always thought that was a neat crossover.
Not technically a NEW artist - on Bad English's song "When I See You Smile", John was the vocalist. John was part of a band called The Babys, whose lineup included keyboardist Jonathan Cain, who later was part of Journey. Bad English consisted of Waite, Cain, as well as Journey member Neil Schon and Deen Castronovo. For Corey Hart, you can do "It Ain't Enough", "Everything In My Heart", "Boy in the Box", or his cover of Elvis's "Can't Help Falling In Love".
Corey Hart, such a crush❤❤❤ Boy in the Box, he did a cover of Can't Help Falling in Love, I am by Your Side, It Ain't Enough, and Everything I'm My Heart. The three in the middle are my favorites of the ones listed. Never Surrender is also good, but you already reacted to that one.
I'd still like to see you react to Adam and the Ants. Stand and Deliver, Prince Charming, or Desperate But Not Serious are some that stand out. DBNS, I think would be a better start for this group. Adam, the lead singer went out on his own later. Amber, Adam has that same thing Prince does. When you watch the video, you'll know.
His stint with Bad English was great too "Price of love" "When I see you smile" "Possession" "Straight to your heart"
John Waite was the lead singer of The Baby's. You should check out Head First, Back On My Feet Again, and Midnight Rendezvous. The Baby's also featured Jonathan Cain, who went on to be with Journey.
And also Neal Schon of Journey was in Bad English. That was when Journey broke up for a while.
This song was in heavy rotation on MTV back in the day. I saw John Waite in concert a few months ago and he was fantastic. The band was stripped down and I swear that the drummer, Alan Childs, was playing the world's smallest drum kit and getting a huge sound out of it. They even took on Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love," and crushed it! Other songs that feature John Waite are, "Change," "When I See You Smile," or from his time in The Babys, "Midnight Rendezvous," "Back On My Feet Again," "Isn't it Time," and "Sweet 17." Jay FYI, The Babys songs are the rockers!
You know what they say when someone protests too much..... Just like the song - I'm not in Love, when he most obviously was, same with I ain't missing you, when he really is missing her!
Came out my freshman year of High School, times seemed more simple back then. I guess as a kid we’re sheltered. I must say for the last 3 years I’ve been listening to music 🎶 I grew up with. Music that we woke up to at home and that we played on our boom boxes on the beaches of So Cal. Those were the days, I am so thankful to have grown up in the 70/80’s. We had great music.
Released in 1984, this reached number one in the US 🇺🇸, and in the top 10 of the UK 🇬🇧 charts. Great song 🎵 👌
Missing You is also the name of a great song from Dan Fogelberg , it’s even better imo 👍
I've always loved this song. Always.
Oh memories! My beautiful son used to do a perfect imitation of this when he was a teenager. I miss those days.
Great track
This was a huge hit and a staple on MTV. Corey Hart was the next year and yeah, that was a big song. John Waite had a much bigger career before and after. John is a Brit and Corey is Canadian, giving John the edge in the stud department. 😂
Classic 80's Ballad. a Top 20 of the Genre...
John Waite is phenomenal. From the Babys to his solo workto Bad English, he's an outstanding talent.
Such a powerful song. Thanks for sharing your first reaction to it with us.
Missing you was a great song.He was the lead singer for Bad English and they sang When I See you Smile .
Before that he was the lead singer of a group called The Babys
He is a wonderful singer! Got to actually see him live a few years ago--very charming as well.
This was always one of my favorite songs! Always a pleasure to hear this one.😊
I miss the new artist bell. 😊 I love this song. Lost love is a tough thing.
Oh wow, this brings me waaaaaaaaaay back.
1984 I think
Now listen to the more modern version of this wonderful song with his duet with the fabulously angelic voice of Alison Krauss. Its special.
He was the lead singer of the Babys with keyboard player Jonathan Cain ... who went in to be in journey
And then they formed a band with Journey's Neal Schon on guitar called Bad English
They are a band you need to put in rotation... when I see you smile is an amazing song. Possession among others
Great song, guys!!! Great pick!
You need to do his first band, The Babys. Check out "Headfirst", "Midnight Rendezvous" and "Isnt it Time".
Also his his song "Change" from his first album after the Babys broke up.
love the songs he came out with, 80s 90s was when the music was real with heart and soul
This is one of the biggest hit singles in history, one of my all time favorites. There's a much lesser known song called "Missing You", by the great Steve Perry and it's amazing. Heartbreaking, but amazing.
Hey guys thanks for my smile today! You guys reacted to John Waite singing in the group Bad English. The song was When I see you smile. I think his best work was with The baby's. The song " You" is a beautiful love song. Definitely one of my favorites.
He played an acoustic version of that song live in 2018 and he is still has that raspiness in his voice. Good song.
My boy J and Amber! John Waite was in a band called The Baby’s back in the day. Story goes that, their was a music show that came on TV somewhat like Saturday night special called American Band Stand with Dick Clark. You may have heard of him! Big in the music industry! Dick heard The Baby’s music and booked them to play on his show live without even a trying out for the show! That was unheard of then. he love their music and their sound. You need to check out The Baby’s “Every time I think of you”
You guys are the best! Keep em coming!! Love your channel! Peace out!!!
This song! When I met The Love of My Life, this was one of her favorites, if not her #1 song. So, ironically, this song reminds me of her and makes me miss her!
You need to do The Baby’s with John Waite. They have some good live songs on the Midnight Special, Everytime I Think Of You and Isn’t it time. The back ground vocals are amazing, but that’s the great music of the 70s.
The Baby’s were so talented. They had a short career together but definitely left their mark!
They already reacted to the babies, look it up
@@davejennings9460 I'm a dieing man.
You mean Midnight Rondevous don't you?
No, it’s Burt Sugarmans midnight special tv show from the 70s and 80s. Couldn’t find a reaction on The Baby’s on this channel.
Great song
"When I See You Smile" and "Every Time I Think Of You" are golden! Both by The Baby's with John Waite.
A few years later he grew his hair long and joined Jonathan Cain and Neal Schon from Journey (who had parted ways with Steve Perry) for the supergroup, Bad English.
If you’re still into Sunglasses at Night, then you need to give the mashup of that + Pet Shop Boys “West End Girls” a try- it’s called “West End Sunglasses”!
One of my favorite 80s songs! A time when music was great and people new how to write fantastically good songs.
Great song, one of my 80s favorite songs.
I saw John Waite with the Babys open for Journey in ‘80. I was a HUGE Babys fan at the time. Also saw John about 5 or 6 years ago do an acoustic show at a very, very small venue. Absolutely phenomenal!
Absolutely LOVE John Waite...He is one of my favorite singers!! Loved him with every single band and his solo album... He has been a part of my childhood/teen/adult life!! LOVE LOVE his voice!!! I am a child of the 70s and teen of the 80s!! What an amazing time indeed!
I remember vividly when this track was popular. Good times.
You will love "Everytime I Think of You" by The Baby's (with John Waite singing). It was a huge hit.
Yes! Love that song! Has a great build-up from mellow to rockin'!
Hell yeah John Waite! You guys'll love his other hits too.
I saw John in concert just last month. He still sounds great.
This was a number one song. Listen to the Baby’s as he was the lead singer.
Love this song and the cover done by Tina Turner as well. You’ve heard John Waite before when you reacted to Bad English.
He's just trying to convince himself that he doesn't miss her!! His friends know better!!!🎶🎼🎵🎸🥁🎹🎤🎙🎧
This song was everywhere on radio for years after it was released. What a classic.
