I spent two years homeless living on the street. This song was really getting airplay. I'm forever connected to it.
I never surrendered.
Home you are doing ok? This song is such a positive message 😎😍
Hope you have made the right decisions now.
I feel you. I was homeless and living on the street for a couple years in the late 80's. i made it through, but it never leaves you.
Corey hart was fantastic singer ❤
Amber's face when the saxophone solo started was priceless
😂😂 AGREED!
The best Corey Hart song without a doubt! And his biggest hit in the U.S. #3 Billboard.
Corey Hart & Bryan Adams were the 2 biggest male artists in Canada in the 80's. Growing up as a teenager in the 80's everytime I turned on the radio one of their songs was blasting out. This video was in heavy rotation on MuchMusic (Canada's version of MTV) in the summer of '85. Ah the memories, I was 14.
I had a satellite growing up so here in the US we could get alot of Canadian channels. In alot of ways I liked MuchMusic more than MTV. Didn't MuchMusic become Fuse? if I remember correctly
@@robertlanier2235 MuchMusic is still around in Canada, now simply called "Much." The United States had a localized version, called MuchMusic USA, which later became Fuse. Currently, Fuse doesn't air any music-related programming. Any music-related programming now airs on its sister network, FM (Fuse Music), but even that network has pretty much stopped playing music videos. When they do air something music-related, its usually documentary-type stuff about a legendary recording artist.
I still have the newspaper clippings of the two and the awards show!
Oh the glorious sax solos from the 80's music. 😍😍
It's a shame this fantastic instrument is completely gone in todays popular music. I really miss these kind of Sax solos or outcues
Corey Hart is an incredible Canadian artist that has been rocking strong for 30 years - and was just inducted into the Canadian Hall of fame. We are so proud of him. It Aint Enough and Everything in my Heart are two more amazing ballads - and Boy in the Box is another fun upbeat song. It would be great if you could check out even MORE Canadian artists like Blue Rodeo, Jann Arden, The Tragically Hip, Emerson Drive, and George Canyon.
All awesome choices!!👍
Blue Rodeo - Try is a great song
Colin James!!
Roch Voisine as well…..
@@dorothystorry1733 Omg yes we mustn't forget Roch Voisine, he's amazing.
This is one of my favorite songs of all time. This song saw me through much heartache in my life, from moving to different cities with no friends, through an abusive relationship, even through the death of my spouse. This song has always been there for me at my darkest time to help me start picking up the pieces - "a little perseverance lets us get things done". For heavy sax songs, try out John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band "On the Dark Side" from Eddie and the Cruisers (fabulous movie by the way).
I also think amber would love "Tender Years" by John Cafferty and The Beaver Brown Band. They have such an Awesome sound!! I Loved both Eddie and The Cruisers movies!!
The whole soundtrack to Eddie and the Cruisers is fantastic.
@@bucknutzbackyardbbq8688 I have to agree with you there. Incredible music.
Sorry Jay stole your thunder, but I gave them Running Through The Fire so Amber can get her Rock Sax hit.
he did a remake of this song a few years ago. totaly amazing
Many people think that the synthesizer was the defining instrument of the 1980s, but I would argue that the sax was. A majority of the top 40 hits from the decade had an obligatory sax solo in them.
OMG I LOVE THIS SONG! This song became a personal anthem for me to never give up, as cliche as that sounds.
💯💞🎶✌
Me, too, along with Tom Petty "I Won't Back Down".
I may feel like giving up, but just keep on truckin' anyway.
"We shall never surrender!" as Winston Churchill proclaimed in his speech to rouse his opponents in the house of commons, as well as his country, to continue the fight despite having suffered terrible losses was the inspiration for this song. I'm sure Corey Hart would be proud to know his song is an inspiration as well.
This song got me through some dark times growing up!💗
And GALAXY QUEST
You mentioned your surprise at finding that this song was so different from the other one you liked. Back in the the day, artists would make a whole album of songs. They did not release just singles. You would have an album that would have anywhere from 8 to 10 songs more or less. Of that maybe 2 or 3 would make it to the radio and the top 100 chart. Maybe 1 song if you were lucky made it to the top 40. The albums were well thought out works of art. There would be dance songs, rock out songs, soft love ballads, all different styles, from the same artist. Other artists would take you on a journey with their albums, like The Who, Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin. Listening to the whole album is what really helped you to appreciate all the sides of an artist. Listening to music was a much slower process. Some of my most favorite songs, were ones that never made it to the radio. When you bought an album it was a real tangible thing that you valued. You listened to it over and over again. Today, music is a fast, experience its here and then its gone. So don't be surprised as you go through this music journey to find that some artists are very multi-faceted. You guys are wonderful, I love your picks. Great job! :)
I love this song. Never give up. Never surrender. Great message. I also love the wonderful sax in this song.
There are so many Canadian singers and bands. Here are a few you should listen to: "Ahead by a Century" - Tragically Hip, "Rise Up" - Parachute Club, "Try" - Blue Rodeo, "Superman's Song" - Crash Test Dummies, "Boy Inside the Man" - Tom Cochrane and Red Rider, and "Working for the Weekend" - Loverboy
Don't forget about Rush!
I saw other reactors do Mmmmmmmm, and I thought "Superman's Song is the Crash Test Dummies song to do."
ua-cam.com/video/5pLlO9NmM3s/v-deo.html this version of Try.
Parachute Club “Rise Up” 💯🔥🤙🏽😎
Add Echo Beach by Martha and the Muffins, and A Criminal Mind by Gowan to that list :)
As much as Amber loves sax, I recommend Quarterflash “Harden my heart” for female Fridays.
Yessss
YESSSSSSS
Rindy Ross is a great musician. I think she and her husband Marv Ross are still performing.
I don't understand why the sax isn't used more in current music, the sax hasn't sounded in modern songs for a long time, the sax remained like an antique from the past.
Quarterflash! Harden My Heart! Great song!
I consider “Never Surrender” one of the very best songs to come out of the 1980s.
My favorite song by him.
I loved this song when it was released. I love that he basically put his career on hold to be a full time parent.
I love this song. He's great. He's got a great voice. He's Canadian 🇨🇦 Good showman too. Fun concerts (seen him a couple times)
From Montreal, Quebec CANADA
This is very special to me, I will never surrender to what I am dealing with ever......
I was waiting for the saxophone solo to kick in because I knew Amber's face would completely light up!
OMG! I haven't heard that song in so long.. high school years.
I love this song and Corey Hart!
If you want to hear great saxophone listen to "I Can't Go for That" by Hall & Oates. That's a smooth song from one end to the other!
This great track (he’s a product of Canada btw) always leads me to another one - Elton John “I’m Still Standing” - two songs that have gotten people through. I’m one of them.
Dan Hartman "I can dream about you" you will dig.
This song you guys reacted to was a bit more of an acquired taste!
@Muhammad Moosa, great song, I think it came from the *Streets Of Fire* soundtrack.
Other great tunes from that soundtrack are
*Nowhere Fast* by Holly Sherwood, Laurie Sargent, Rory Dodd
*Deeper and Deeper* by The Fixx
S.W.
@@steveweller3899 Yeah, it's from Streets of Fire. That movie also stars the guy who played Eddie in Eddie and the Cruisers, Michael Pare. And a very young Diane Keaton. As well as Willem Dafoe and Rick Moranis.
@@TimedRevolver Diane Lane.
@@MikeHorror67 Yeah, it was Diane Lane. I'm terrible with names. Mix them up a lot.
That song is awesome, I can listen to that over and over! Perfection
I met Corey Hart while working for a broadcasting publication. He walked into our work area and introduced himself, very unaffected by his fame or success. Very nice guy.
As a HUGE fan of Corey Hart since my 80s childhood days, may I also recommend "I Am By Your Side," "Eurasia Eyes," and "Can't Help Falling in Love." As an intensely bullied kid, "Never Surrender" was a song I would turn to like Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors" and "Time After Time" to comfort myself thru the hard times.
Boy In The Box is another great old school Corey Hart song, as is It Ain't Enough. His video for his newer song Dreaming Time Again is so very cool. His son is in the video with him. Think you guys would like it. Bryan Adams, Glass Tiger, Loverboy, Haywire.... all great Canadian artists.
🇬🇧 I don’t think ANY of Corey Hart’s songs ever made it to OUR Music Charts when these songs of his were new. I wish they did because this one ‘Never Surrender’ is my favourite and always picks me up whenever I’m feeling low!
my favorite by him as well. there’s so much to like about it
Elton John "I'm Still Standing" is another one with a great message.
Corey hart is an awesome artist …. While doing a concert here in Newfoundland , my sons school is attached to the theatre he was performing at….. after rehearsals for his show he took the time to visit with the students , offered them guitar and vocal lessons and gave them a private concert session …. Awesome guy 😀
He also recorded a great cover of the Ron Hynes song "Sonny's Dream", which is a musical staple in Newfoundland.
I almost forgot how much this song inspired all of us in the 80's decade.
Still relevant today.
Remembering now the amount of love I have for Corey Hart.
I used to love Corey Heart and his voice. "It aint enough" is also a good one by him. I still have his 80s album.
If you like this song listen to Nik Kershaw "Wouldn't it be Good?" , Glass Tiger "Someday"
aww dang...I haven't thought of Nik Kershaw for a couple decades and I loved that song. Gotta go watch some videos of him now. Thanks for the reminder.
@@amyfrench8678 Just did recently. Didnt pay too much attention to the "wouldnt it be good" lyrics back then and just realized how sad they are. Great songs 'tho!
@Vern Sherris No, he's from England but just remembered him from around the time I liked Corey Heart. I do love Glass Tiger and I know tgey are from Canada. 🙂
I thought you were going to pull out the Honeymoon Suite next.
@Vern Sherris Lol, I was thinking of adding Haywire, but I never bothered, Bad Bad Boys was a good song back in the day.
You made this Canadian girl so happy! I remember being in English class one day in grade 9 and couldn’t get Sunglasses at Night outta my head. I remember watching the video for Never Surrender and waiting for the day I would finish school and get out there on my own. Memories! I think Corey Hart was my only teenage celebrity crush! A similar vibe to this song would be Everything in My Heart. But nothing compares to Sunglasses at night. Sorry! Another song you may want to check out is Tears are Not Enough by Northern Lights, Canada’s fundraising effort for the famine in Africa (since you did the US version), of course Corey Hart is featured in it alongside veteran Canadian artists Gordon Lightfoot, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Rush, Burton Cummings, Anne Murray and Bryan Adams. A few fun facts about Corey Hart ….. Hart's first experience as a performing artist came at age 11, when he sang "Ben" for Tom Jones in Miami. He also recorded songs with Paul Anka in Las Vegas during this time period ……. 10 top 40 hits in the US, 30 top 40 hits in Canada, nominated for a Grammy in 1984 in the best new artist category ……… His album, First Offense also featured guitarist Eric Clapton on the record's closing track, "Jenny Fey"…… he wrote and produced songs for Celine Dion ……. I am so happy you listened to him!
This song and a lot of the 80s music/videos take you back to moments in time when something was happening not necessarily romantic but time with loved ones, especially those no longer with us and you feel like you just want to freeze those moments just for a few seconds. I loved growing up as a teenage girl in the 80s with my family and friends, so much love, so much memories. Trying to capture the lyrics on paper as you played back the cassettes over and over. What a decade!
Probably one of my all time favourites. He's even better in person!
Cory Hart has always been a favorite of mine!! I love his voice!! I would love to see y’all react to PAUL YOUNG - Come back and Stay!!! ❤️
One of my top songs ever is a Paul Young song. 💕
I agree with the Paul Young "Come back and stay" song request. I heard it first on a shortwave radio station in the 80's (BBC?).
Oh man I loved this song
.. why can't the 70-80s rewind?
For another good 80's rocker to look into I suggest Billy Squier. Particularly In The Dark, The Stroke, Everybody Wants You, My Kinda Lover and so many more...
Definately in my top 5 favorite artists! Billy Squire rocks!
@ Kevin Franks Agree 💯 I suggested him a few times…. I saw him 8 times he put on a great energetic fun show!!!!
Don't let me go. Great song. You are mine tonight also.
I have to say right off the top your smiles are infectious! More often than not I find myself smiling right along with you both. I'd like to share a Corey Hart story. He's popular here in Canada and before the pandemic we were lucky enough to catch him on his comeback tour as he took nearly 20 years off to raise his family. At one point during the show he and his wife came out into the audience and between songs conversed with the audience, then to the delight for those us in the outer rings of the amphitheater walked around getting closer waving to us even stopping directly in front of us. A real gentleman to try and reach as many fans as he could. As a suggestion I would recommend 'It Ain't Enough' if you're interested in covering another Corey Hart song.
I'm Canadian and have been a fan of Corey's since 1985. It was this song and video that pulled me in. I got tears watching you two react. It was lovely to see/remember how powerful it is on first listen. Corey is an absolutely fabulous human being. I have many wonderful stories about him. The best one: I teased him on Facebook about Jim Cuddy taking Corey's place as my #1 artist. (Jim is the guy who sings Try by Blue Rodeo, which many have suggested as a reaction.) Corey's response to my teasing was to invite Jim to record a duo on Corey's 2019 album. The song is First Rodeo. If you search for a live version on UA-cam you can hear Corey tell the story of how it happened. This man deserves ALL the kudos. As for more ch recommendations: My own favourite is Everything in my Heart, but I'm suggesting Tell Me or, for its 100% 80s vibe, Waiting for You.
“sunglasses at night” + “never surrender
“ are no doubt 2 of his most popular songs, but my wife’s + my personal favs are by far “ain’t enough for you” + “eurasian eyes”
Love the instrumentation and arrangement of this song.
Iconic song - when he does this song live, you can't even hear his voice over the crowd singing the song.
that sounds so wonderful! what a great experience
Corey Hart - singer / songwriter extraordinaire. All his albums deserve to be delved into.
My mother named me after Corey Hart in 1992. It is one of her favorite songs in the world. " She still wears her sunglasses at night" lol
I think you would both go nuts over INXS- Never tear us apart. Sax included.
Great choice!
Been requesting this for MONTHS!
Nothing like good sax!
My hubby is not an 80s fan.... but he LOVES this song! Signed, a GIANT 80s fan!
In Your Soul is another good one by him.
It'is a great song...!!!❤❤❤❤
I also think amber would love "Tender Years" and "On the Dark Side" by John Cafferty and The Beaver Brown Band. They have such an Awesome sound!! And it's got her sax in them.
This song came out at a time when I had run away from home and was all by myself. It kept me going.
There was a One Hit Wonder in the 80’s. I think he was actually an actor that did one GREAT song. It is called Rock On. It got tons of airplay back in the day. By the way, I was born in 1969 so all of these 80’s songs that you guys are reaching to, are bringing back SO MANY AWESOME TEENAGE MEMORIES FIR ME!!!! Thank you guys for starting (and rocking) this channel. And J, a special thank you to you my man for including Amber on the channel. You are great and she is great, but together, you guys are FANTASTIC!!!!!!
Michael Damian sings "Rock On", released in 1989. A cover from british singer David Essex (1973). Def Leppard also did a cover of this song in 2006.
Aww I forgot how beautiful his voice was. I always felt he didn't get enough exposure in the states.
Totally agree with you
Can't help falling inlove with you Corey Hart please
Love this song!
Incredible song. One of my fave 80s tracks. Inspirational! Go Corey!
“With a little perseverance you can get things done” is good, but I think the follow-up line makes it so much deeper and original “without a blind adherence that has conquered some.”
Gorgeous voice- uplifting lyrics- and a saxophone solo, all the parts for an amazing song!
Saw Corey Hart in concert in 1985. He was the opening act for Hall & Oates! Obviously a great show with these performers. Good times.
I saw him as well 1985 in Vancouver Canada opening for Hall & Oats.
My anthem in the 80s 90s 00s
I absolutely love this song
Enjoyed listening and watching your guys reaction to hearing this for the first time!!! 👏👏👏
corey hart he was the most sexy handsome singer of the 80s with unique voice Just AMAAZING!!!!
Played this album endlessly in the 80's. I love the video too with the Toronto streetcar/buses in the background. Looks like he's walking along Yonge Street before the city 'cleaned it up'. HA! Sing it Corey!!!!
Corey Hart did an 'updated' remix of Never Surrender that is a lot slower, more acapella. Still, this version of the song remains one of my top songs of all time.
I 💜 ‘Black Cloud Rain’ by Corey Hart
With as much as Amber likes horns, I'm surprised you haven't done any Kenny G. I recommend "Silhouette" for Amber.
This brings Paul Young to mind for some reason. You should check out Every Time You Go Away by Paul Young. It was written by Daryl Hall but check out Paul Young singing it before Hall and Oates.
FRANKENSTEIN by Edgar Winter group (Live version 1973). "Ballroom blitz", "Blockbuster", "Little Willy", by Sweet. You might just love it!
Played it last week
No, not Rob Squad reactions. They reacted to Hocus Pocus
Edgar wasn't just a musician, he was a magician of sound on Frankenstein.
@@larrycallahan2135 Well said!
@@abelincoln3287 keep trying Abe! One of these days!!🤘🔥
Corey Hart is Canadian and in the US definitely mainly known for these two songs. He had a few other songs in the top 40 but not as successful as this one and Sunglasses at night.
This song is one of my all time favorites his young daughter actually covered this song and did it acoustically. .the message is powerful and the song itself is amazing
I commented on your sunglasses at night post about this song..One thing that can help to know is that during that time all of these songs by all the 80’s artists were on MTV in the mornings , and all day long .. before MTV there was nothing lol… suddenly there they all were , making mini movies to illustrate the lyrics of their songs ( for lack of a better way to describe it ) we had no cellphones or anything like it before. It was like Christmas every day you had something to do when bored ? Turn on MTV . Every morning before going out the door we all watched MTV videos with songs like this. George Michael, Madonna , Debbie Gibson, all of them . This was very influential on kids who were lost and needed an identity , lonely , on all of us . When you could see them you then knew how to dress cool and you learned all things music culture . It was a nonstop vibe for ten years haha.
Amber, your smile is infectious. This was a huge hit for Corey. Fun song. Great t-shirt Amber. Look at Hayward Dixie, maybe for the girls. Thanks for the memories.
My favorite Corey Hart song was always "It Ain't Enough". It's one of those great 80s breakup ballads.
I’m so glad I found you guys! I’m 56 and I graduated high school in 1984 so the eighties were my jam! I love your reactions! I liked all different types of music. You’re the best!
😄💖 so glad to see this! thanks!!
Those 80's video was so cool back then.js
movie shorts :)
Can't think of Corey Hart without thinking of John Waite's Missing you. They both hit about the same time and my mind has them linked.
Totally
I am addicted to your channel.
This song represents the essence of the mid 80s: I mean it's got it all, mood, vibes, drama, feels, palm muted chorus guitar, sax solo, empassioned 80s lyrics, nothing else you can jam into this masterpiece
So glad you finally did this awesome
To me this is easily his best song. I like how it builds as the song goes on. Starts slow then the next verse gets a little more oomph then you add that little keyboard part that takes it another notch then the horns takes it to a crescendo.
His songs are great and he’s not hard to look at either!🥰
oh you mean david duchovny? they look alike 😊 yes he’s easy on the eyes as they say
I can't believe I still remember every note of the sax solo after all of these years!!! I also love the guitar in the song!!!
Man another throwback….. love our music
Everything in my heart ❤️ is another great Corey Hart song.
The 1980s was such a special time in music. U just had to be there to understand. Glad I was there for every year of the 80s!! Just on another level of realness
Another fantastic artist is Bruce Cockburn try "Lovers In A Dangerous Time"
"And when the night is cold and dark
You can see, you can see light
'Cause no one can take away your right
To fight and to never surrender."
For another upbeat Corey Hart song with a little sax try "Angry Young Man".
Richard Marx is one you guys have to react to.
So many good songs.
"Keep Coming Back " is a great one to start with,
Great Sax solo and Luther Vandross on backhround vocals
This song I live by it speaks so much truth I have this album in a frame on my wall if that says anything❤❤
I have always loved the way this song starts out as encouraging, and ends in empowerment. IDK how many times this song has driven me to wipe off the tears, stand up, and stand my ground. Let the haters hate, they don't know any better, and/or are ENVIOUS.
There's power in that.
"....and when the night is cold and dark, you can see
You can see light.
No one can take away your right, to fight, and to never surrender."
"Time is all we're asking for, we can never surrender."
POWERFUL good. 💗💗💗
Corey Hart is a Canadian Icon! He is from my hometown of Montreal, Quebec! He has a great voice!!!! He took a very long break to be with his family and raise his kids. He was inducted to Canadian Hall of Fame at the 2019 Juno Awards (Canada's version of Grammy's). He did a kickass live performance. Watch here ua-cam.com/video/2LzROLsuH4M/v-deo.html
I will never surrender to alcohol addiction. Yeah that’s what I’m dealing with. Great video btw.
🙏🌻
Amber and J -
This song is the bomb!! Glad you reacted to it!! Corey is a cool dude!!
I don't have another song from him to suggest, but here are 5 songs from the same movie!! I bet you two will love these!!
John Waite: Change
Berlin: No More Words
Red Rider: Lunatic Fringe
Dio: Hungry for Heaven
Journey: Only the Young
“Someday” by glass tiger sounds similar to this.
I was pumping my gas a few months ago & this was playing over the speaker... I was like OMG I LOVE THIS SONG!!! I hadn't heard it in so long. I immediately grabbed my phone & put it on my 80's good mood playlist.
Check out Cheap Trick's "The Dream Police" "I Want You To Want Me" "The Flame" "She's Tight" "Magical Mystery Tour" "Tonight It's You" "Surrender"
