I have been fortunate to have seen John perform and chat him up many times over the years. I'll never forget the time at the Akron rib fest when he was speaking to another fan. He looked over and saw me there. He politely excused himself, walked up to me and said I'm sorry I dont remember your name but I wanted to come over and say hello. We chatted a few minutes. That is how he is with all his fans. Very kind and genuine man.
I was at a cafe in Santa Monica a few years ago. John Waite had just finished his lunch or drink and got up and left. He knew that I had recognized him. I asked the waiter if that was John Waite, he said yes and that he was a really nice guy. Five minutes later, he came back to the cafe. I looked at him and said I knew it was you! He came over, said hello, put his arm around me and I kissed his cheek. We took pics and I asked him what he was doing and where he was playing these days… what a nice guy!
@@dianelaag2944 what a great guy and a sweetheart absolutely a perfect gentleman and a very kind hearted man and super cute and extremely polite and nice too

I met him in 1985. He and his band played at our fair. I had just watched MTV that afternoon when "Missing You" came on. I was working in a ice shack. He came strolling by with two bodyguards. Then he came right up to me and we chatted awhile. He was so cute and very sweet. I asked for his autograph, which he gave me. John asked if I was going to his concert that night, I said yes of course. He replied get close to the stage and when I sing Missing You I'll sing it to you. I'll never forget how wonderful it was. .
Hi John. It was 1984, I was a 7 year old American kid living in Italy as part of a military family. Things got bad at home and a violent event broke up my family sending most of us back to the US and leaving my father behind in Italy. Back then I would hear Missing You and imagine my father's guilt and loss. Since MP3 players became a thing your song has been on my daily rotation and I hear it on my spotify list still a few times a day. Thanks for the memories.
John Waite, you aren't lying about MTV. It was the best thing that happened for music and musicians all around. Always love your music and performances.
I saw him with Ringo Starr in 2001 in Atlantic City. Great performer. But yeah just like he said , it was MTV where i first saw the "Change" video and it was an instant hit. Perfect timing in the early 80's, the great early days of MTV.
I was in an on-off relationship as a 19-yr-old when that came out. It had a pretty deep meaning then and still does today. It's amazing how many songs from back then bring back familiar feelings, smells, sights, sounds, and such.
Just saw him perform for a small gathering today, and had the chance to meet him. His voice still sounds great! AND he was so genuinely nice! It was really an honor to get to meet him!
John Waite...awesome singer and songwriter...I loved that he said what made his music great was because it was "honest"...not much of that around these days!
I can't count how many times I've sung Every Time at the top of my voice driving. If I could sing I pray for the voice of Russell Morris and John Waite! JW.... you Rock! Thanks for all the joy your song bring us!! ❤️
He is so good in concert, and he was very kind to stop and say hello. I looked at him thinking about his documentary he did and thought it was horrible about his manager taking royalties, not owning his music. Having to start over owning his music, money. It's just crazy.
I got to see the Baby's at the Golden West Ballroom in Norwalk, California, in the mid 70's. Thanks John Waite, Keep Rockin!!! Come to San Diego, California soon.

I wondered why I never saw him in the charts after Missing You. Never mind Rod Stewart - John is the real deal for me - proper honest no bullshit - top bloke :-)
Missing You was qinticintial 80's. There are certain song you hear that immediately take you back to a certain time/Era/place. That song takes me immediately to my high school years. My teen years were incredible! I love them dearly!
Just finished listening to the album No Brakes with that massive hit Missing You. Thanks John for all the great tunes, soundtracks of my memories. I was a big fan of The Baby's as well....actually my first rock concert ! Glad to see your still doing your artistry. How awesome it would be to get Bad English back for one more album ! ! !
This guy is awesome....he should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame if he isn't. I particularly love his work in Bad English...that debut album is flawless. The 2nd album, Backlash is really good as well. "Straight To Your Heart" should have been a number one hit.
@@eightiesmusic1984 thanks for the great response! So many good songs with Bad English. Trivia: John Waite was supposed to be the singer of Open arms by Journey but he begged off saying that its too melodramatic eck eck(he didnt want the song)..the song eventually went to Steve Perry when Jonathan Cain became the kboard player for Journey,,, Neil Schon had the same thought like John but this song put them on the map..
Seems like such a thoughtful, grounded guy....saw him in Bethel NY a couple of years ago and he was terrific! Very warm and appreciative on stage.....hope he's happy now because many of his songs are SO damn sad!!
Always enjoyed this mans music and I used to see all the album covers, press pictures, etc of him with such a stern look.Rather personal side of John here that brings him into view in a deeper way.I’m really happy he has his way in life from his success yet stays grounded.
He says he was into blues, soul and country. Listening carefully, that's totally an Aretha type soul vocal on the chorus. It's not instantly recognizable because it's over a sparse pop background... there's no horns or organ or anything like on a soul record. Later Tina Turner would record it with a treatment very similar to Johns, but with an odd thumpy bassline way out in front.
In the collective consciousness, back then....John Waite was riding those waves ~because music lovers respected him very much and he deserved it. Everyone I knew loved him :)
What an amazing voice. I wish there was a reunion with Babys . And I think that with a voice like that you don't need videos or good song writing. Phill Collins proved that with Su Su Sudio.
