I wish Toyota got with the program a few years ago, but glad this video exists! Hopefully, newer models will come out with these as standard.

I’m confused as to the purpose of the extra USB and Aux inputs installed in place of the cigarette lighter. Are the factory USB and aux inputs incompatible with the VLINE2?
You need to connect factory USB and AUX to VLine. You can do so with the USB retention cable, such as the one here:

I have the Vline 2 and trying to install the USB adapter in place of the cigarette lighter like the one in the video. How did you manage to get the factory cigarette lighter out? I've tried everything but it's just not obvious. Please help!

How was the GPS antenna routed, What is the purpose of the zip tie? Additionally, is the GPS antenna required to be placed on the dashboard for the unit to function properly?
You just tuck the wire beneath the car panels, the placement is unique for each vehicle and installer. GPS antenna needs to sit on top for better reception of the signal. If you place it to the top right corner on the dashboard inside of the vehicle, it is not too visible. Check the image here:

No you do not, if you left the car in the VLine/CarPlay mode.

Thanks for making this video. I don't understand why you installed another 1/8" aux port when the factory one is in the same location, and why do you even need a separate USB port when the factory ones are there too?
These are the ports that are integrated into VLine VL2 system, to work with the system directly.
Well I just ordered mine with the port accessory so I guess Ill find out soon enough.
Got everything installed and still dont get what the extra aux port is for. I bought the same one as in this video. There is no place on the VLine2 to plug it into. I ran the wire into the glovebox along with everything else, but what do I do with it? I suspect its something to do with the port the gps plugged into? But obviously I would need an adapter of some kind.

@@mighty_torr8705 Yes I got a reply via email. The aux port is useless unless you buy this other video harness from them. Its expensive and not worth it for just another aux in. Its really for 3rd party backup cameras. You do need a USB port to plug your phone into so that you can do wired Carplay. Its either buy that one with the useless AUX or buy something similar, or splice into the factory ports. But the factory ports kinda suck mechanically. Connection was always bad for me. If you are going to do Wireless Carplay, which I'm now doing since I just upgraded to iphone 12 mini, then you don't need that accessory plug at all. It would be better to keep the factory 12v cigarette port and plug in an aftermarket charger that runs to a magsafe or qi pad so you can have wireless charging and wireless Carplay like me.

Does this installation video also apply to 2010 Lexus GX? I note that the description only lists the 2014 - 2020 models.
No it does not, as the stereo is different. However it is similar.

@@oompaloompa11111 I installed it on my 2010 GX yesterday. There is one extra bolt on the left near the ignition you need to take out. There are small differences in the trim panels but they come out the same way he does it in the video. I put the microphone under the center dash speaker when I had it all apart, the screen pops off just like the other speaker he uncovers.

Hi, I’ve submitted this question (and others) through support and haven’t received a response. Can you tell me how to fix my CarPlay phone call audio? It’s terrible and people complain they can’t hear me. If I use the factory BlueTooth it’s perfect, but it kills the VL2 until I can restart or sometimes reboot. Help!

Hey Tim! This is also a problem for me, so this is not a one off. I have difficulty hearing my wife when she's using phone in Carplay. I even purchased and connected a second mic to see if that was the problem......nope! Did you ever get a satisfactory resolution to this problem??
So the Grom itself sits in the glovebox?
You can place it where it fits you. We recommend glove box for easier accessibility in case the firmware update via USB is needed. Some users secure the unit below the glove box, just outside of it.

Do you leave the VLine hardware in the glovebox? If so, do you attach it or does it just sit there?
It is advised to leave the main device in the glovebox. You can attach it with the velcro or supplied brackets. It is better to restrict the movement of the unit while the vehicle is in motion.
@@gromaudio why do you recommend leaving it in the glove box? I would prefer hiding the unit behind the dash and keeping the storage space.
@@patrickmg81 for easier accessibility if you later need to service the unit, such as update firmware using MicroSD card, etc... This way you will not have to disassemble the dashboard to reach to the unit.

is there a way/place to tuck this under the dash and run some sort of ectension cable to a more accessible spot, so upgrades are easy? or put another way, why cant i do updates from any usb port??
What is the v-Aux Harness?
The VAUX cable connector is needed only if you want to add aftermarket backup or front facing camera to VLine VL2 system. You do not need this cable if you simply want to keep your original factory camera, it will keep working. You can check more info about this cable here:

Yes wireless CarPlay is now available on all VLine VL2 models.

What is the GPS Antenna for?
GPS antenna is to provide the GPS signal to VLine. It is needed if you are using VLine stand alone (without CarPlay or Android Auto), or to enhance the signal for CarPlay / Android Auto. We recommend installing it even if you are using strictly CarPlay / Android Auto.

We are located in TX, but we ship worldwide.
So this means that I can trade out the horrible manufacter screen/radio for something else or only use that device to hook to a phone ? I can't do this old crap for the price I paid for the lexus. I was worried that I would lose the backup camera or something.

Is there wireless android auto?
Yes, but phone calls are routed to the Lexus phone system, not thru Android Auto. That is a major drawback. Calls in CarPlay route thru CarPlay itself
