  • The Lexus GX 460 SUV coddles up to seven passengers with all the amenities of an Edwardian-era smoking room - opulent leather, ample comfort and fastidious craftsmanship. But in spite of all this luxury, the GX 460 off-roads like a main battle tank. It’s able to reach places no $66,000 vehicle should ever be taken. It has capability rival models like the Audi Q7 and BMW X5 simply don’t. Unlike most crossovers, this high-brow SUV features traditional body-on-frame construction and even has a live rear axle. Is this a 21st century Japanese vehicle or Detroit iron from the 1960s?

    IDK what you are comparing the GX to but I have a 2015 and it has stately road manners. High 'King of the World' driving position, quiet as a vault, stellar sound system, power of the V8 and lux seats. Plus it will outlast any competitor to 300K miles and beyond. What else could you ask for?

    After owning this car for almost 4 years. I would this car is pretty much perfect. It is extremely comfortable on the road, it’s very capable off-road, performance is not terrible, will absolutely never break down, looks great inside and out, and come on, it’s a V8
    Edit: The GX definitely isn’t perfect. We switched to and are staying with the Germans, particularly Mercedes and BMW. They’re just much better road cars in every aspect. Reliability and off-road isn’t a big concern. Also it’s my moms car, don’t know why I talked like it was mine originally, I was 12.

      Yeah, i really don’t get why he knocks it for having a floaty ride. Do all these reviewers live by perfect roads? The roads around me demand a floaty ride. Stiff suspension is terrible.

    • @fiveowaf454
      @fiveowaf454 4 роки тому +2

      @@clarda1 I agree, in the US where I live the roads tend not to be twisty, but many have rough surfaces with seams and potholes so a compliant ride is no bad thing particularly on long runs. After all these are not sports cars, or even cars, so it's reasonable to have some float and roll as a compromise fora good ride quality. All road testers seem obsessed with firm rides and track day handling, probably because they are not driving a vehicle they own or are concerned with fuel mileage they are usually pushing harder than the average owner does anyway.

Long story short I think the warranty will end up being a waste. Look for a good gx460 example-u really don’t need the cpo. The only things you have to worry about are the air suspension on the luxury trim and doing the timing belt at 90k miles. The air suspension will go long out of cpo warranty anyway

      @@bobg1318 I was very underwhelmed by the 4Runner when I had one on a rental for 700 miles or so recently. The 4.0 with only a 5 speed auto transmission and at altitude made it feel very much lacking in power compared to other comparable vehicles. The fuel consumption was also poor and I believe that the lack of power coupled with a transmission that notably kicks down a gear on inclines raising rpm noticeably compared to the 8 speed units in rivals, adds to the fuel consumption. I really wanted to like it, but couldn't, I think a lightly used GX460 is a much better option.

      I have a 2004 GX 470, and I'm LITERALLY IN LOVE WITH HER, not to mention the fact that she's totally paid for, in full. I take awesome care of her, treat her like a child, behind my 2 children, of course, but I love her, like I actually gave birth to her, and I have to say that I clean her everyday, because of my ADHD and OCD, and in fact, according to the guys at Lexus of Nashville, she looks like the last GX 470 they ever made, before they discontinued that particular model!! My dad had been urging me to buy a new car, since there were a couple of things that needed attention, but once "Cool Springs Automotive" informed him that this was DEFINITELY ONE OF THE GREATEST KEPT VEHICLES THEY HAD EVER SEEN, HE LISTENED!! I do have to say I lived in Sarasota, Florida, when I bought my car, with 27K miles on it, so that was a plus starting from Day 1, since she had never left South Florida from the day she was born. I moved to Nashville, TN in November of 2012, so clearly this was quite a shock to her system, considering the fact that the weather here is simply "BIPOLAR," however she's NEVER FAILED ME ONCE!!! The bottom line is that 2 days ago I got the front brakes replaced, the shocks replaced, and the steering and suspension corrected to the tune of $2,900.00, and SHE'S RUNNING LIKE A TOTAL ROCKSTAR!!!!! Needless to say, spending less than $3K to make her ABSOLUTELY PERFECT AGAIN WAS WELL WORTH IT, AND IN ALL HONESTY, I JUST PRAY TO GOD SHE IS NOW IMMORTAL!!!!! BTW...the only reason I checked this video out was to see if the seats were the same, in the GX 460, because to TRANSFORM HER INTO SHEER PERFECTION, ALL I NEED TO DO IS REPLACE THE SEAT COVERS!!!!!!!! SO, CHEERS TO ALL YOU LEXUS OWNERS!!!!!! LIFE ROCKS, AND SO DO YOU!!!!!!!!!!! All love, Amanda!!!!!!

      I get about 13 mpg (terrible), acceleration is fine and handling on-road is fantastic for it's size. It's also done well for me on icy roads. For the price, i do feel it's missing some luxury and safety amenities. If one is using proper driving position (not lean back coolio gangsta wannabe), then there is sufficient travel in the steering column (at this price, should be electric adjust).

I still get the same MPGs in my diesel Excursion today as this Lexus, I have more cargo/passenger space, I can tow a lot more, and has more torque. I'm sure it won't come close to the same overall miles in the life of the vehicle either. My Excursion is at 240k miles and I plan to keep it for years.

      I have yet to go lower. The dealer told me it will run safely on any octane, though I have yet to verify in the owner's manual and gas prices aren't an issue right now. Ford has it's flex fuel and GM has a similar feature and I'm sure Toyota has the same.

    • @MannuhFestIt
      @MannuhFestIt 7 років тому +3

      JTSX1 Don't listen to dealer. Nobody knows your Lexus more than Lexus/Toyota so just go by owner's manual. It may not show any problems at first when you go lower but the effects will slowly show then hit hard in the future. Plus, going lower only makes your engine work harder and decrease mpg making fuel cost even more.

    This Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and Lexus GX460 are the same SUV with some cosmetic difference's + Engine Choices. Toyota Land Cruiser Prado comes with the 6 Engine Options. Like:

    3. 3.0 Litre Diesel
    4. 3.0 Litre Diesel
    5. 3.5 Litre Petrol (China)
    6. 4.0 Litre Petrol
    It does comes with the 5 Transmission's Options. Like:
    1. 4 Speed Automatic
    2. 5 Speed Automatic
    3. 6 Speed Automatic
    4. 5 Speed Manual
    5. 6 Speed Manual
    While the Lexus GX460 Comes with the 2 Engine Options. Like:
    1. 4.0 Litre Petrol.
    2. 4.6 Litre Petrol
    It does comes with only 1 Transmission Options. Like:
    1. 6 Speed Automatic
    If Compare both Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and Lexus GX460 exterior design then the difference's will be front Grill & Headlight. Lexus GX460 has more agreesive design while compared to the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. Although Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and Lexus GX460 offers Same Engine, Chassis, Gearbox etc. The Interior difference is that the centre console, dashboard and other gadge clusters look's quite different from the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and Lexus GX460. From all of my opinion's I will definitely say that Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and Lexus GX460 is a 4 Wheel Drive Mid-size Luxurious SUV. Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is quiet common SUV in Bangladesh. Not only common but also quiet Popular and Expensive SUV in Bangladesh. But Lexus GX460 is the most rare SUV in Bangladesh. The Price Range of 4th Generation 2nd Facelift Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is about U.S. $ 96,000 and while the Price Range of the 4th Generation 3rd Facelift 3017 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is about U.S. $ 143,000. I wish Lexus would focus this SUV more for road driving.. Really, they made it too geared to off-road driving and in doing so, it makes it not as nice on the road as it could be. Or better yet, make this version and then make another GX 460 "road" version for road driving. I bet that the people who buy this use it 97% of the time on the road - not driving thru the jungle.

    • @swanblake

      ***** incorrect, they tuned this to have more torque lower in the rpm band. Nothing to do with reliability. Look at the chevy small block. It is rock solid in reliability and puts out 50% more power. Its because Toyota has no engineers. They lost them all after the 90's. I mean they just came out with a turbo engine and its so overly complicated and underpowered. They are already having problems with it.

      @@LeftenantMalachi It's partly that, but I'm sure it's also tuned for more low end torque, different cam profiles or such. The live rear axle is fantastic, IMO, if you are planning on doing a lot of miles, owning the vehicle for a long time, off roading or towing. Stronger and simpler versus an independent rear with drive shaft boots to get ripped and fall apart with age. The down side is more unsprung weight and its affect on handling, all of which are pretty negligible on this type of vehicle.
