I'm not a big technocrat at 80 years old, but this has been very clear to me. I've just bought a camper van so my wife dog and I can go on picnics along the West coast of Wales. I've got "Waze" on my iPhone. Thanks.
You didn't mention that you can use Automations with Carplay. That's VERY handy. I have an automation when I start Carplay to check the temperature. If the temperature is below 2 degrees celsius, I have SIRI say to me that I have to drive careful because it could be slippery. And you can do MANY more things with this...
That’s funny, I just got a new car with CarPlay about a month ago and I said the only it’s missing is if it could display the current temp and conditions outside - this is about as close as it gets. Thanks buddy
Yep. I have a CarPlay automation to remind me to turn on my dash cam (it doesn’t reliably turn on) and another automation that tells me how traffic is and how long it will take to get to work on weekday mornings.
One of the best tech presenters on the Web. The episodes are informative, comprehensive, delivered efficiently and his presentation style is never irritating.
It's wild how far car tech has come. I now leave my phone and my keys in my pocket to drive. The phone connects automatically and starts playing the last music I was listening to when I got out. All of the car functions work with the fob in my pocket. Took a while to get used to not digging out my phone and keys every time I get in the car.
I’ve been using Car Play for years and thought i knew all of what it did. Until I watched this episode. Once again you have helped. Your tutorials are alway educational, extremely easy to listen to and follow along with. There are others sharing their insights on UA-cam and although filled with information, they are sometimes difficult to listen to for more than a few moments because of tone of voice or competitive antics. You are always on mark. Thanks once more.
Great tips, but here’s one I use all the time. I ALWAYS listen to music while driving. I’m also almost always using Google Maps or Apple Maps. My CarPlay screen is perhaps a bit smaller on my car, but if you tap the two squares in the lower left corner, you can see both your driving application as well as your music application, side-by-side, so I can skip songs while still getting all my driving information on one screen.
Thank you! Clear, concise, constructive and well-paced. And thank heavens for a totally listenable English voice - such a refreshing change on UA-cam! 15:45
It's great that you do what you do! As a 50-year writer and marketing communications consultant, I'd love to see your video headlines read like your caption: "Apple CarPlay is AWESOME when you know how to use it!"' -- rather than, "You're Using CarPlay all Wrong"
Add your home and work addresses to “My card” in Contacts. Make sure these open with correct locations in Maps when tapped. If you launch Maps on CarPlay, it’ll automatically plot the appropriate route, depending on your routines. When you add an event in Calendar, make a habit of entering the location as well. Maps will then plot the route there instead if it’s upcoming. E.g. dental appointment before work, get in in the morning, and Maps plots the route to your dentist instead of to work. Once done at the dentist, it’ll plot the route from there to your office.
I use Google maps. I don't have to add work or home to any cards. I didn't even have to add my home or work because Google just knows based on how often I'm there and how often I go to and from one specific place for a period of the day.
I’ve written this before but thanks so much for being so clear, precise, knowledgeable…and all w such a patient and pleasant presentation 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Much appreciated 🙏🏼
@@ProperHonestTech Here in India, Apple Maps isn't able to pick up the exact location from Home or Work address added in the contact card. It's always off by 1-2 kms or so. Also, on asking Siri to "Drive to home" while using CarPlay I get "Can't open while driving"... something like that. Defeats the whole purpose. Any tips/workarounds for both of these? It's been very frustrating using CarPlay here.
WOW! I didn't know it did so much. The problem is, I am such a thick head with technology that I am going to have to spend a lot of time going over and over this to remember it all. Just bought a new Toyota Yaris Cross and it has all this and more installed and I want to use it all to get the best out of this useful tool. I am at an age when this takes time.
Apple Maps ETA feature in Carplay is fantastic - a feature few know about. For other Apple users, it sends them a temporary Find My Friends link, which is updated in real-time. And for non-apple users, it sends them a formal text with your ETA etc. If you are ahead or behind schedule, it updates them automatically! It even tells the other person when you arrive, so you don't have to remember.
Again a very helpful video. After abandoning Siri and Apple Maps in my car it gave me the spark to try it again. My biggest issues were the fact that Siri doesn’t seem to understand me and maps is really bad for finding anything in rural areas. Thanks for the inspiration
I have the exact same problem. If I try to tell it a destination it always mangles what I say and gives me something totally wrong. It is extremely frustrating. When I do manage to get a destination I can’t adjust the volume of the directions if music is also playing. It confounds me at every turn. I seem allergic to this stuff.
@@GregBeaulieu-c3tyou can use built-in Google voice recognition inside Google Maps search. Maybe it will serve your cases better. And in general Apple improved their maps significantly. The ux looks even better in comparison to any other app. But coverage is still not the best one in some areas
I actually like the Apple watch tapping when a turn in coming up, because I may be distracted by a conversation or I’m unsure if it’s the following turn. CarPlay is an excellent system much better than the alternative.
Love your channel. Great video. One thing. You mentioned being able to change the order of your apps through settings on your phone bI was going crazy trying to figure out how to actually move them on that list n settings. I finally googled it. You have to touch and hold on the lines on the right of the app and move it to where you want it. Just in case anyone else is being as dense as I was being. 😂
Wireless can have an issue connecting to carplay if you park in your garage and you have Bluetooth/wi~fi in your house. Can be frustrating to try to get it to connect, especially if you're late for work!
Excellent. My new car claims to have Car Play. I had no idea what this is and tried various searches: was it a piece of hardware, was it an app…..? Yours is the only source of information that actually tells me what it is and how to operate it. I look forward to using it when I purchase the vehicle. Thank you. Concise, as ever.
Your tutorials are excellent and helpful. It makes a change to listen to a presenter who doesn’t shout and try to be zany which never impresses. Thank you.
I use Carplay extensively and found a few tips I wasn't aware of, THX. And the other day I discovered something others might find useful. CarPlay would not work while using VPN. I use Express VPN, so I don't know if it is an issue with other VPN's. Once I turned it off, it worked fine.
Thank you so much for this very informative video. I love Apple car play and use it mostly for Waze and Spotify. However, my car or CarPlay, not sure which, has a really annoying habit of disconnecting itself and I then have to forget the device and start over again from scratch. This is particularly annoying if I don’t realise it has done this until I’m already driving and want to use it!
Out of interest are you using the genuine apple usb cable? I had this issue with my CarPlay and turned out my third party cable was at fault. Not saying it will solve your issue but worth a try.
Great video! One issue I need help with. I start my car and connect my iPhone via lightning cable. Most of the time music or a podcast starts playing on the radio. Same with my wife’s iPhone. There was nothing playing just before connecting the cable. Any way to stop this auto play “feature?” It can be quite disturbing at times. TIA
I noticed lately that they improved algorithm a little bit. Look like they start autoplaying only if music was “interrupted” last time when Carplay was connected. So when you turn off ignition and leave the car if you stop music before doing that - it won’t autoplay when you connect CarPlay next time
I love CarPlay and how straightforward it is, basically a display of my phone! So handy to ask Siri to message and search for music etc. I’m not so impressed at the idea of a newer version though as I like it how it is and it works for me. I’m not particularly tech minded so hope they don’t mess with it too much
Apple Maps has made a tremendous amount of strides the last 18 months. The feature is very underrated. Apple customers should give the app another chance and they will probably not be disappointed. Terrific video. Please more videos about features like this. Try to cover the ones that are not covered as often.👏🏽
Significantly prefer Apple Maps vs Google Maps when using CarPlay. The interface is far cleaner than the overcrowded view on Google Maps. I do wish though that they had an “eco routine” option like Google Maps had though
Under-rated!? I still haven't got over pollsters suggesting 70% of Americans would NOT consider buying a car if it didn't have CarPlay. Me too. No CarPlay, no car. In industrial terms, this is bizarre. Apple is a big player in car sales
@@alwaysright3718 I switched to Apple from Waze. It's a much better interface overall, much more user friendly, and works much better in CarPlay. I only miss a couple of things from Waze, but nothing that makes me want to go back.
Yes, I’ve seen the updates as I’ve used it actively over the years and they’re quite impressive. I actually prefer Apple Maps over Google Maps/Waze now.
Unfortunately we can’t control the app’s availability. It up to each app developer to adapt their app so it would be suitable for CarPlay. So you can try to ask developer of app you are interested in if they plan to add CarPlay support.
Great video. A lot of very useful information. Prior to watching I thought I was getting the most out of Apple CarPlay. Clearly that was not the case. Thank you for posting! 👍🏽
I can’t thank you Enough for this Specialized Video!! My wife and I finally got a new car (after all these years!) that has car play and both us have been quite frustrated each time we get in the car and try to figure out while driving, how to use the dang thing! When I show this to my wife - she is going to Celebrate You Forever‼️ Thank you so much! I will be urging King Charles to grant you Knighthood for your Valuable Service to Humankind!! 🙏 👊🍻 👏👏👏 👏👏
the integration of CarPlay and calendar should have been covered. I saw your video on Apple Calendar and now use it exclusively for when I need to drive to a new destination - be it a Dr. appt, to get the kids from camp, or especially when we go on vacation and will be driving to a new place everyday and then returning to a 'temporary' home.
Thank you for this video. I’ve dealt with many frustrations with Apple CarPlay and your video gave me a lot of useful information, so I appreciate the time you took to make this video for others. I look forward to watching more of your videos.
Thank you for the reminders of other things CarPlay can do. I use CarPlay all the time. One thing I do is run Waze in the background for alerts but navigate with Apple Maps. I appreciate my watch pinging like a turn signal when I need to turn. I use Siri all the time for calls, messages and reminders. I have great ideas driving down the road.
So you think Apple Maps is better at navigating or do you just like the view better? I'd try it but am afraid my phone would burst into flames from the heat. (Of course, I'm also using it to listen to podcasts.)
@@donlibes I haven’t had any heat issues using Maps. I like the lane information and landmark comments like “go thru this light and turn right at the next light”. In my area this is so helpful. I stream music, listen to podcasts, and audiobooks book with no heat problems. I do keep my phone out of direct sunlight. I’ve had issues with overheating when I have my phone on my dashboard but that was in a car that didn’t have CarPlay.
Does anyone else have issues with CarPlay constantly disconnecting for no reason? It’ll go back on, but only after I disconnect and reconnect the UBS cord. Even though it never disconnected to begin with.
I've never had any issues with disconnects across several iPhones and several vehicles that I have owned and rented that support CarPlay. The only issue I ever experienced was that it wouldn't connect. It turned out to be lint in the lightning port not allowing the cable to be inserted fully.
@@jrb2280 I have that issue but I believe it is due to the dumb adapter needed for the iPhone cable. It doesn’t fit snugly like a regular cable would. I also have a problem with the screen going black after going in reverse
The cable can be damaged and due to movement of the car you can experience this issues unfortunately. Common problem. Also try to clean charging port from dust. Sometimes it can also affect connection stability
I've just purchased a 2019 Mercedes B180AMG that has Carplay but to use all the features you have to pay Mercedes a connection fee of about £80 for a Smartphone Integration Package which I think is a bit of a rip-off. Thanks for the video, I've learnt a lot from it.
This is more of an iPhone query than a CarPlay one. Is there any way, I can disable the charging function with a wired connection? It can’t be good for the phone to be plugged in when it already has a 100% charge, or can it?
Hey! Thanks for making this. I've just watched it. I'm testing out Car Play this month for 1 month as I've recently adopted an iphone as mobile number 2. I'm actually an Android user and i live on android auto. This is helpful to navigate the settings and get basic knowledge. Thank you.
I often plan routes on my Mac using Apple Maps and send them to my iPhone, so they are ready to use in CarPlay; especially useful now Apple Mapa offers waypoints.
Great video thank you. The only other thing I would’ve mentioned it’s a little dongle devices that you can buy to make your CarPlay wireless. I have a 2017 Hyundai Tucson and I had to buy that in order to make mine wireless. Otherwise I had a wired CarPlay connection built in the device cost me about $90 and it works great.
I just started using Dongle for wireless, but it drains my iPhone battery like crazy! So, I still need to plug in my phone to keep it charged. Still need to decide if it’s worth the dongle since I still need to plug in anyway. Would love to hear this in another video or others‘ comments.
Just got a car with car play and being of a certain age I was unsure how to use it, and worried I might hit the wrong button and my car would just vaporize. Thanks to you I am move at ease and since you never mentioned how to disarm Vaporize I no longer worry about it. But who knows maybe I will be surprised one day. Meanwhile Big Thanks.
I use CarPlay daily for gps, music and phone calls while driving. The only issue I’ve come across is Microsoft Teams causes my whole stereo system to reboot. If I try to join a meeting or take a teams call, the whole screen goes black, powers down and then comes back up. When I tried it with my Android, it worked fine. I hope Apple and Microsoft fix that problem. I often take meetings on my commute to the office and have to use my iPad mini and AirPods since the iPhone can’t connect when it’s connected to my car.
Thanks, but every Siri function you mentioned can be used while connected using Bluetooth only without Carplay. I think the only useful Carplay function is maps.
Wow! I have a Subaru Outback - bought it new in 2015, it has CarPlay, i never understood it or what it could do, so never used it or “played” with it. I only plugged my phone in and used Bluetooth to play my downloaded music (which has nothing to do with CarPlay!). Now I know…guess I’ll wait for the newest info on CarPlay before I really dive in! Thanks so much for all the great videos as well as this one! I always learn new things!
CarPlay 2.0 is expected to launch later this year, but I’d jump right in now if I were you, as it’s still unclear how compatible the new CarPlay is going to be with older devices.
Thanks for advice about wireless charging. I find it doesn’t work well as I have a more rugged case and now I know the overheating damages the battery I’ll turn it off. It’s not exactly a hardship to insert a plug when needed!
I have a suggestion for you, regarding the Dartford crossing. Wouldn't it be useful to make a location trigger for it and then simply adding it to reminders with due date within 24 hours? Thanks for the helpful videos.
Not sure if my other message sent. Basically a video ! Thanks. A few questions. - Google maps doesn’t show when selected. It’s just a black screen. Any ideas ? - When using any map- is it using phones data ? - like someone else said- is this not bad for the phone to be constantly on charge ? - how do you change the appearance / backdrop you mentioned in video Car is mazda 3 2017. It’s a wired connection Thanks in advance
One thing you did not mention and I just found out as it was something that frustrated me is the little Squiggle in the top left corner of map. As you know this changes the view from a I guess street buy street view and gives you you total trip view with your progress in the route. I like this when i am doing longer trips so I can see what’s around me in case I want to make a diversion. Otherwise great tutorial and will be back for updates.
What drives me crazy is: get in car, car play works, drive to store. Then, get back in car after store and CarPlay is like “well I’m not connecting to your phone now….” No matter what I do. Nope, not connecting. Get home, go to bed, get in car to go to wirk the next day, car play works fine like nothing happened… car play works fine for weeks, then out of the blue, nope not connecting this leg of your trip…
Same here. I figured out. That if I have a weak cell service area. It doesn’t work right. Not sure if that’s the issue. But even a small pocket of a weak signal can make the difference.
My new car does this, too. I’ve found that turning the car off and back on usually fixes it. A couple of times I’ve had to go into my phone’s Bluetooth settings, find my car’s connection, and turn CarPlay off and back on again.
Hold the power button on your head unit until the system restarts (warning you may hear a small audio pop; nothing to worry about) You should then be able to connect without any issues. Restarting the car will only work if there is enough time for the audio system to power off fully which is usually not immediately for most cars.
I do prefer Apple Maps over other services as I tend to experience their ETA estimates are way more accurate compared to Waze for instance. However the fact that it only shows speed traps and cameras but no trajectory speed controls is a no-go since Belgium, especially the northern part of the country, has a lot of them. I know that you should be driving the speed limit anyways but it helps just to make sure you're aware of it. Thanks for the tips, I didn't know/dive into the focus modes yet.
I use Waze to travel from UK to Waregem area. I change car to kmh but leave Waze in mph so I know distances. It picks up the average speed zones as “police ahead” which is useful enough. More so via France where the 80/90/110/130 is confusing if you are not in a truck!
Sure - if it's supported, you can use it. You'd likely have to learn to control it via the car's own controls though. I've seen Mazdas where you have to use a jog dial for navigation. Not something I'd enjoy using personally, but if it's the only option... 🤷🏻♂️
@@davidbloomberg9494 I'm afraid not, and it's not something I'd create, it's too niche if I'm honest, as the vast majority of CarPlay devices are touch screens.
I would prefer to use Apple maps, but always find Waze is just more reliable and useful. Speed warnings and stranded cars, also a lot faster at picking up delays (also across europe). Ref the Dartford Toll, you can set an account so it recognises Reg no and takes card payment automatically. Reminders is useful when set in advance to remind you at a certain point on a map to do something (ie get a reminder to post the birthday card that has been sat on the passenger seat for a week, when you are near a certain post box 😬)
@15:10 I think it’s the same even when you’re charging or simply connected via USB: phone heats up, especially on very warm weather (and you’re not using the A/C), and the phone either freezes (phone doesn’t respond to your tap/touch) or completely shuts down. Happened to me more than once.
Fantastic tutorial with excellent production values, Please, could you do a tutorial on lighting one’s space for an online meeting or presentation like this? Your image is so crisp and your lighting setup creates a warm, clean look that I haven’t been able to get with my own videos. (I teach online and have a lot of online meetings.) Thank you for the CarPlay tutorial - very useful - but honestly I was distracted by my own envy at your lovely mise-en-scène and would love some tips on how you get that effect.
I have had CarPlay on two EV's...first a Chevy Bolt and now on a Ford Mach E. It has worked very well for me in both cases. My "gripe" is that it only allows limited scrolling (in both cars) for albums downloaded to the iPhone. I understand not scrolling while driving using my hand, but it seems like there should be enough flexibility with Siri to access any album on the phone. That might be the case with the relatively simple titles of Pop albums...but with the complexities of classical metadata, it is very difficult for the classical listener. I have made a great number of classical playlists with simplified titles, but the results of calling for these by name have been mixed at best. Sooo...what that means is less spontaneity of selection (if you're a classical listener) and that you really need to decide what you want to listen to before you put the car in gear. Also, I prefer to use PlexAmp (for albums not on the phone) but that app, though on CarPlay, does not respond to voice commands. So given that the iPod started out as a music player and morphed into the iPhone when telephone was added it is surprising to me that the least attractive feature is control of music by Siri...again, this is much less of a problem with Pop music than Classical music. Maps works as well, for me, as Waze or Google maps and responds much better to Siri commands. Voice-texting gets used a lot and provided one's elocution is not defective works almost 100% of the time. So my ratings for these options are iMessage (10), Maps (8), Music (5) all when controlled by Siri voice command. The problems are not Siri problems, per se, but incomplete programming of Siri talking to these most-used (for me) app options.
@@rauland seems the Classical app was not well beta tested. No Apple TV version either… I use Apple TV as my streaming DAC. Apple Music UA-cam & previously (b4 Apple went lossy) Tidal.
CarPlay using an Ottocast wireless dongle is a good experience too, my partner uses Android and as we share driving quite often it was a good option instead of swapping out cables every time we hopped in the car. I am enjoying the CarPlay experience on our 7in corolla screen, it is functional and Siri has been reliable whilst driving. I use Waze as default navigation due to its crowdsourced reporting, if Apple maps was half as good in that dept I'd swap. My fave function is my remote garage door button that appears when i'm close to home (around 500mt radius), the same doesn't work in Android sadly. The next generation CarPlay sounds exciting but I honestly don't think its that needed, end of the day there is only so much information/interaction that needs to be distracting the driver. In Victoria Australia our laws have evolved recently that makes it illegal to "scroll" any device (including inbuilt screens) and overhead cameras will capture use and send fines. How they are going to determine a press from a scroll in a picture is beyond me, going to be a lot of drama.
Great video! I actually think that currently Apple Maps gives best user experience of all navigation applications. The way how most of maps work with alternative routes and additional stops is really annoying Still I think that CarPlay is one of the best things that could happen with car infotainment for decades. Always use it especially when doing car reviews
Thanks for the video. One of the reasons I purchased my Apple Watch Ultra was for the haptic tap as a turn approached. Dead handy, saves me sailing passed a turn when on autopilot! I use CarPlay on a motorbike, no comms. I think CarPlay is great but I would like the option of rerouting when I deviate from the route. The way I'm routed to the missed waypoint reguardless is too limiting and I would prefer to be guided to rejoin the route via the quickest route rather than the missed waypoint. Also, Apple maps needs to be useable off line.
It's April 2024. My mom and I are anticipating getting 2024 Subaru's with Apple Carplay. I'm a total newbie, this video really helped. Liked and subscribed. Thank you.
Another very useful tutorial; thanks and well done. I've been very impressed by the CarPlay facility in my VW Golf (mk7.5) and feel the Apple Maps application works best as it appears to make use of the car's integral GPS receiver rather than the one in the phone. I've found with Waze and Google Maps, the map can occasionally lose its bearings, especially when travelling at very low speeds. The Apple Music implementation is also very impressive. Keep up the good work!
exactly, apple maps plugs into the cars receiver so compass direction and accuracy is superior. Only time I would run waze is if i am trying to avoid traffic and waze is showing a better route or for watching out for speed cameras.
That’s quite interesting to know that it uses the car’s GPS antenna, if it’s true for all models. It has gotten completely lost a few times (location not what it appears on screen) which necessitates the phone to be rebooted so that made me think it was using phone gos connection? This is using wireless CarPlay.
I’m wondering why there’s no way to pull up a start to finish directions list. sometimes I find showing only the “next turn” on the GPS display screen can get you lost or cause you to miss a turn, and only if you check your iPhone, can you see the list. Sometimes you want to see the full directions list on CarPlay. I’m surprised this is not a feature or am I missing something?
Great video. One question on mapping apps. Can I tell apple maps to download all the map data for a trip onto my phone in advance for those areas where there is no cell/data coverage? How about Google maps or Waze? I routinely drive a route where there is no cell coverage for 2 hours or more.
Off-line maps are possible with Google maps Off-line maps will be available on Apple Maps with iOS 17 due in September 2023. If you start navigating to your destination with Apple Maps while you have a cell connection, I believe it will download the Maps it needs then
CarPlay is NOT the same no matter how you connect. If you use a wireless adapter, rather than a native wired or wireless connection, you maintain the ability to use keyboard in various areas that would typically force you to use your voice to control the system.
This is a great video! Thanks! I'm going to share it with my MIL as she's not familiar with the tech but wants the functions that Carplay offers. One thing concern that we've looked into is data usage because she doesn't have a great mobile data allowance. You can save maps on Google to a degree to save data but you can't have real time traffic announcements without a date connection. Driving regularly with data enabled can eat through a 1gb allowance in days.
Hello! A bit late of an answer, but the data usage is way lower than you're describing. I've been tracking mine since november 2023, and I've only used 3GB of data since then using Apple Maps. That is with close to daily driving with GPS. Hope that helps.
I had been looking forward to CarPlay with my new Hyundai Kona. But the car came with Navigation and Sirius/XM and I thoroughly enjoy those enhancements. I connect my iPhone via Bluetooth and have access to phone, messages and Siri. Short press on steering wheel phone logo accesses automobile requests and a 2-3 second push accesses Siri. So, it seems I have most of the Good things plus expanded access to my phone. A downside to CarPlay was that I could not access it via wireless, only plug-in. If the new forms of CarPlay makes plugging in the phone worth it, then I might use it. Until then, I’m not sure CarPlay could be better than the Nav capability I already have plus expanded iPhone access.
I’m new to CarPlay, and am clearly still learning. I was hoping to gain information about how to add additional apps for use in the car. For instance, an audiobook app that I have on my iPhone… it’s not working on CarPlay. How do I make it work?
You just got a subscriber for life ! Just watched this and seen you for the first time and must say I am very impressed! Your articulation and presentation is marvelous and easy to understand and follow. Your tech skills are superb! Thank you!🙏
You’re very detailed with your videos and I enjoy them a lot! Now since you mentioned Nas I’m definitely going to work more of your videos lol thanks again!
My car didn’t have CarPlay when I first bought it, but a later upgrade installed it. I find Google Maps / Waze on Car Play altogether superior to the Garmin maps built into the car. I can set up my destinations outside the car, then just start the route when I get in the car. The big screen (about iPad size) on the dash makes an ideal display, and directions conveyed over the car’s audio system makes for an excellent copilot / navigator while driving. {NB: I also appreciate a presenter with a more listenable British accent.}

That's very clever - I'll have to explore that in more detail.
That’s funny, I just got a new car with CarPlay about a month ago and I said the only it’s missing is if it could display the current temp and conditions outside - this is about as close as it gets. Thanks buddy
My Mazda 3 notifies me on its own anyways lol but that’s cool!
Yep. I have a CarPlay automation to remind me to turn on my dash cam (it doesn’t reliably turn on) and another automation that tells me how traffic is and how long it will take to get to work on weekday mornings.
New VW and Audi's have this feature built into the car when they drop below 4 degrees.

Keeping your phone in your pocket is great for short trips, but for long ones, gotta keep that thing charging lol

I’ve written this before but thanks so much for being so clear, precise, knowledgeable…and all w such a patient and pleasant presentation 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Much appreciated 🙏🏼
My pleasure…

Here in India, Apple Maps isn't able to pick up the exact location from Home or Work address added in the contact card. It's always off by 1-2 kms or so. Also, on asking Siri to "Drive to home" while using CarPlay I get "Can't open while driving"... something like that. Defeats the whole purpose. Any tips/workarounds for both of these? It's been very frustrating using CarPlay here.
Thanks!
Thank you!
It even tells the other person when you arrive, so you don't have to remember.
they will figure it out when you knock on their door
@@dirtbeard108 True, but it is also handy to notify someone whos not there to let them know you have reached your destination.
Apple Maps got me turning and going out of the way all the time. If I was a delivery or Uber driver I wouldn’t use Apple Maps
Great explanation, I love using CarPlay especially for Google Maps! Thanks!
I actually like the Apple watch tapping when a turn in coming up, because I may be distracted by a conversation or I’m unsure if it’s the following turn. CarPlay is an excellent system much better than the alternative.
I am new to car play and this has been extremely helpful getting oriented. Thank you!
Thanks
Love your channel. Great video. One thing. You mentioned being able to change the order of your apps through settings on your phone bI was going crazy trying to figure out how to actually move them on that list n settings. I finally googled it. You have to touch and hold on the lines on the right of the app and move it to where you want it. Just in case anyone else is being as dense as I was being. 😂
Finally someone who is able to explain the maps in a way I can understand. Thank you
hey do yk why the keyboard doesn’t pop up my and my brother have the same one and his u can search anything of apple maps
Wireless can have an issue connecting to carplay if you park in your garage and you have Bluetooth/wi~fi in your house. Can be frustrating to try to get it to connect, especially if you're late for work!
OK, you get bonus points for having Tim Apple in your contacts. Hilarious! 😂
Thank you.
Danke!
Thank you very much!
The best video on Car Play on UA-cam, a must watch for anyone starting with Apple Car Play
I use Carplay extensively and found a few tips I wasn't aware of, THX. And the other day I discovered something others might find useful. CarPlay would not work while using VPN. I use Express VPN, so I don't know if it is an issue with other VPN's. Once I turned it off, it worked fine.
Concise, clear with good production values. Liked. Answers many questions I have as a potential new CarPlay user!
Brilliant, very clear, no waffle, just helpful information. Thanks so much.
TIA
I have the same problem. Apple Music starts playing right away. Super annoying.
I’m not particularly tech minded so hope they don’t mess with it too much
The quality of your video is excellent. The audio is as clear as the instructions are, and the graphic displays are great too. Keep it up.
Great video very helpful thanks, I’ve never used CarPlay but will certainly give it a go now 👍
Apple Maps has made a tremendous amount of strides the last 18 months.
@@WarrenPeaceOG Apple Maps is highly underrated due to its disastrous launch. Many have never given it another chance since. They're missing out.
As a long time user of carplay, a couple of things I'd like to have is the ability to add more wall papers and Apps of my choosing.
@@peterbrowning1251 you can it’s in the car play settings on the phone as well as how to organize where your CarPlay apps are
Unfortunately we can’t control the app’s availability. It up to each app developer to adapt their app so it would be suitable for CarPlay. So you can try to ask developer of app you are interested in if they plan to add CarPlay support.
Your videos are always very clear and very well explained. Thanks. Keep up the good work.
Great video. A lot of very useful information. Prior to watching I thought I was getting the most out of Apple CarPlay. Clearly that was not the case. Thank you for posting! 👍🏽
I can’t thank you Enough for this Specialized Video!! the integration of CarPlay and calendar should have been covered.
Aussie here, bravo on your crisp, clear, all encompassing yet concise vid / tutorial here! Thank you it helped me! Sub'd.
Didn’t know about customizing screen and screenshot taking. Thank you.
I do the same lol. Whenever I drive to some place where I’ve never been yet.
Excellent presentation of useful information! Thank you from the US, where most people here speak in a garbled voice.
Use an apple cable, that sorted my issues as was using a 3rd party cable
I've just purchased a 2019 Mercedes B180AMG that has Carplay but to use all the features you have to pay Mercedes a connection fee of about £80 for a Smartphone Integration Package which I think is a bit of a rip-off. Thanks for the video, I've learnt a lot from it.
This is more of an iPhone query than a CarPlay one. Is there any way, I can disable the charging function with a wired connection? It can’t be good for the phone to be plugged in when it already has a 100% charge, or can it?
It’s fine. Modern phones manage their own charging and expect this situation.
Is there a way to not display alternative routes. I always see main route and multiple alternatives in lighter color. Thanks
Get a Dartford crossing account for all cars and never have to think about it or pay fines if you forget
- how do you change the appearance / backdrop you mentioned in video
Car is mazda 3 2017. It’s a wired connection
Thanks in advance
Great video simple clear precise excellent
My 2024 BMW X5 M60 is the absolute worst for this!
I used to have the same issue but my issue was the cable… after I got a cable from Apple I haven’t had this problem…
The video is shot beautifully and the audio is pleasing
More so via France where the
80/90/110/130 is confusing if you are not in a truck!
How about using Carplay on a non-touchscreen radio like a Mazda ??
Sure - if it's supported, you can use it. You'd likely have to learn to control it via the car's own controls though. I've seen Mazdas where you have to use a jog dial for navigation. Not something I'd enjoy using personally, but if it's the only option... 🤷🏻♂️
@@ProperHonestTech Yes.... You have to use the control knob... I was sorta asking if you've done such a tutorial ??
Wireless charging creates a lot more heat in the phone than cabled charging. Both do add heat, but the difference is significant.
Your voice drops off and I lose a word, sometimes an important word. Lots of great information , don’t want to lose any words. Thank you
I have had CarPlay on two EV's...first a Chevy Bolt and now on a Ford Mach E.
Perhaps the new Classical App will work better for you.
@@ronreeder4572 unfortunately, the classical app isn’t CarPlay compatible..yet

Australia, the land where the inmates incriminate themselves.
Great video! I actually think that currently Apple Maps gives best user experience of all navigation applications. The way how most of maps work with alternative routes and additional stops is really annoying
Still I think that CarPlay is one of the best things that could happen with car infotainment for decades.
Also, Apple maps needs to be useable off line.
if you need a computer to tell you what to do when you make a wrong turn, you shouldn't be driving. You turn around.
Nice presentation skills sir! Engaged throughout
This is a wonderful and valuable collection of tricks and tips for CarPlay. Thank you so much. Cheers! ❤😊
Great video. One question on mapping apps. Can I tell apple maps to download all the map data for a trip onto my phone in advance for those areas where there is no cell/data coverage? How about Google maps or Waze? I routinely drive a route where there is no cell coverage for 2 hours or more.
Off-line maps are possible with Google maps
Off-line maps will be available on Apple Maps with iOS 17 due in September 2023. If you start navigating to your destination with Apple Maps while you have a cell connection, I believe it will download the Maps it needs then
Thank you. Back for a review
CarPlay is NOT the same no matter how you connect. If you use a wireless adapter, rather than a native wired or wireless connection, you maintain the ability to use keyboard in various areas that would typically force you to use your voice to control the system.
Extra props for the Illmatic mention. Didn't expect that at all. 👍🏾🎧
This guide will greatly benefit Gertrude the 79 year old polish woman who can’t grasp simple tech usage
As always, yet another very useful and informative piece. Thanks!
Great video, really clear and helpful. 👍🏻
This video was awesome! I had no clue how to use CarPlay other than plug my phone in and use the Waze app! Thank you for this! 😊
I’m new to CarPlay, and am clearly still learning. I was hoping to gain information about how to add additional apps for use in the car. For instance, an audiobook app that I have on my iPhone… it’s not working on CarPlay. How do I make it work?
Very helpful. Seems like no one talks about the ins and outs of Carplay. Thanks.

You’re very detailed with your videos and I enjoy them a lot! Now since you mentioned Nas I’m definitely going to work more of your videos lol thanks again!
My car didn’t have CarPlay when I first bought it, but a later upgrade installed it. I find Google Maps / Waze on Car Play altogether superior to the Garmin maps built into the car. I can set up my destinations outside the car, then just start the route when I get in the car. The big screen (about iPad size) on the dash makes an ideal display, and directions conveyed over the car’s audio system makes for an excellent copilot / navigator while driving.
{NB: I also appreciate a presenter with a more listenable British accent.}
Well done! I"m new to CarPlay and this is a very nice overview. Thank you!
