    I would like to make one point about Hal; During his "training" arc, he is VERY interested in absolutely MURDERING Megamind. Like when he completely melts the dummy, which scares the hell out of Megamind who is watching it.
    Hal was always evil, clearly not even considering that murder is wrong, even in that instance, and even delights in it.
    He's not *extremely* evil when he doesn't have the power to be evil, but as soon as he does, he goes full chaotic evil- as he was super-spying on Roxie even before the advice.
    It's a style of that old saying. Power doesn't corrupt, it simply reveals the corruption that is already present.

      A lot of good things about this movie is that it allows the audience to come up with their own interpretations on certain themes.
      This is one of the examples, “Was Hal always a jerk or was he egged on by Megamind?”
      I’m the person who says Hal is somewhere in between the two, but the fact that it can be a discussion elevates the movie because it trusts the audience to come up with their own thoughts, interpretations, and opinions on it.

      Yeah the only thing Megamind teaches Hal that carries over into his villain mentality is that whole "save the girl = get the girl" idea. Granted it is coming from an authority figure of "Space Dad", but its not like he took much convincing to treat it as gospel. I'm willing to bet Hal had some entitlement issues prior to this that were only balanced out by a sense of inadequacy, and once said inadequacy was apparently dealt with it only took a nudge to convince he that he "deserved" certain things.

      @@notanotaku1101 It’s also coming from an authority figure who has never “gotten the girl” himself, and is basing his teachings on his own experience (to which, his perception of MetroMan and Roxy’s situation would be his most consistent and closest example of what he’s trying to teach).
      Add onto that, that his upbringing probably also had some variation on the subject taught by the inmates who raised him, who may or may not have believed similarly; and you have someone who has only _some_ idea what he’s talking about, trying to teach on the subject.
      That is to say, MegaMind was less _tricking_ Hal, and just figured that was the natural course of how things worked out.

    Possible contentious opinion: pre-hero Megamind is lawful evil (LN tendencies). He did everything because he saw being a villain as his place. This is the order of things, and this is where he fits in it. It's the classic 'code unrelated to literal law' lawful. His actions, varied as they may be, were done to uphold this place.

    • @christophervennix9861
      @christophervennix9861 2 роки тому +17

      Nothing contentious there. Megamind, by the rules of his own universe, is definitely lawful. He follows a code, stands by his personal set of values and ideologies, so lawful through and through. At the end of the day, he sees himself as a villain and a lot of his actions (kidnapping, stealing etc) when given the chance shows more of a self-gain / self-interest, so leaning towards evil.

    This movie is one of my favorite movies. It’s a parody of the Superhero genre, but like Incredibles, it doesn’t really make fun of it, more like it tries to re-examine it’s tropes and improve it overall.
    All of the characters are great, the actors play them well, it’s well-written… this movie *deserves* a sequel.
    And the comedy is top-tier. Seriously, it was a stroke of genius to have the main character not be able to say all words correctly, and there to be constantly hilarious situations happening.

      However much I may also be a big fan of Megamind, I have to disagree on the whole sequel thing. I feel that there is more than enough closure. Regarding Megamind and Roxanne, their character arcs were wrapped up well, and there aren't really any lose ends to deal with. If anything, I root for a movie set in the same universe, where we can explore other characters and maybe even address Metro Man, er, Music Man some more.

      @@notanotaku1101 sometimes people confuse satire with parody or vice versa. A satire is a criticism of a particular thing either political or what-not with a humorous edge, while parody is often an embrace of the thing using humor. • @master0fthearts894
      @master0fthearts894 3 роки тому +4

      @@aprilbennett4161 There is a lot of closure, but respectfully disagree. I don’t think that a sequel can’t be done. For one thing, there are plenty of standalone movies which have phenomenal sequels, for another, the status quo of Megaminds story can be used effectively as a baseline for a sequel.
      (Off the top of my head, now that Megamind is accepted by the general public, he could be terrified to lose that acception. If there are several other heroes in the universe, we can have a number who are corrupt and want to downplay Megaminds name and steal Metro Cities adoration. Or some other superhero-like plotline, as long as it is interesting)
      To put it frankly, I think that a sequel to Megamind, if handled correctly, can be done, especially since Megamind is a standalone with sequel potential rather than a pure standalone.
      And frankly, I just need more content on this glorious, big brained blue boi who sometimes mispronounces words XD.
      That being said, a Spin-Off exploring Music Man and his quest to find his passion would be pretty rad, ngl.

      Pacha - Neutral Good; he's mostly concerned about his own family and is breifly willing to abandon Cuzco... but his heart is too big.
      Yzma - Chaotic Evil; this dosen't even need explanation.
      Kronk - I'm gonna say True Neutral here. Kronk's actually the hardest IMO. He's just a dude caught up in the whole thing. Also his shoulder devil and angel and him in the middle as the neutral party.

      Kronk i would actually put at lawful neutral since he spends most of his time cheerfully following orders while doing both good and evil things. and its not until yzma insults his cooking that he turns on her.

After all his whole mindset in life is that he is a villain and thus must act like one and that if someone is a hero then they will act like one (cough cough Hal). Not saying at the end he would be Lawful Good but he'd definitely be more Neutral than Evil.

    But he's not doing it because he wants to do terrible things, he tried to take over, he believed it was what he wanted, but only after he succeeded did he realise that it was all just part of the show he was putting on.

    I feel like metroman is more chaotic neutral, mainly due to the fact that he is fully ignoring the bad things that happened because he was gone suddenly without even attempting to create a back up. if he did it in a lawful way, would have created some form of back up group or entity that when he 'suddenly' was done in by megamind could have picked up protecting the city, like a justice league/super friends/some sidekick sort of deal. He's clearly very smart, albeit not as much as megamind, so he knows what's gonna happen. Even if he is fairly sure Megamind wont actually hurt anyone intentionally he knows the fear and panic he causes and the dangers he COULD cause if he was even slightly eviler than he was. He ignored the known effects of his actions, and then the resulting heavier KNOWINGLY deadlier threats left. Someone who has a wacked out moral compass has HIS powers now, and he knows it, and knows better than anyone that he is godlike, and he refuses to help. That's not just not doing the greater good that's selfishness on a huge level, because he knows no matter what HE will be fine. It would be like if superman ignored something about to destroy the entire planet because he just didn't feel like it and its not like its gonna kill him. I would have agreed maybe, if it was just megamind left, it could be argued his faith in how basically childish and not truely dangerous megamind is could cause him to ignore that side of things abit. But when you combine it with the knowingly abandoning the city and possibly world to whatever a manchild with his godly powers wants to do to it, that leans toward the ultimately selfish. And i don't say that as a dig at hal, but someone that turns to bloody MURDER violence in anger, and the second they have powers begins full on thievery and such to take what they feel they are owed is someone that hasn't grown up. He is the unfortunately gross stereotype of the nerd people have had in their heads for ages, and he's used as a sort of scapegoat i think to bash on all the nerdy folks in the way of saying that if given powers they wouldn't be heroes, they would be selfish and only use it for their own gain at the expense of others.

    I would like to point out that Hal was acting as a villain before Megamind pushed him to it. He used his abilities to steal all that stuff he had in his apartment, and was trying to convince Megamind that they should team up as villains. All of that happened after he saw Roxanne with Megamind/Bernard. I wouldn't call that accepting she's with someone else and moving on. Not to mention stealing that entire cart of flowers to try and impress Roxanne before that, and then just chucking it over his shoulder without a thought. Plus, he was acting like he deserved a relationship simply because he had powers, well before his attempt at 'rescuing' her (right after dropping her twice). While I agree Megamind's advice was awful, I think his own misconceptions about what being a hero was all about had more of an affect on his fall to villainy. You could argue that part is Megamind's fault as well, but none of what we see Megamind teach him about being a hero involves romance except for that one scene on the bench.

    I agree with most parts of this, but one thing I disagree with is the level of push Megamind had with Hal since it was made clear that while Megamind's theifts were more out of obligation (Chaotic Neutral), Hal's were out of Mallice (Neutral/ Chaotic evil), on top of that, since everyone was under the impression that Roxxane and Metroman were a thing it makes sense that both Megamind and Hal who are probably equally socially inept when it comes to relationships were both already under the assumption that that was just how things worked. But other than that I agree with you for the most part, (personally I would have pushed Megamind up to Chaotic good (Just barely) and put Metroman at Neutral good with emphasis on the neutral part since he's still clearly good at heart and knows that megamind wouldn't hurt someone intentionally unless he either believed they could take it or if it was necessary, heck even his weapons (with the exception of the forget me stick) are all harmless or at least don't have the intention of direct bodily harm.

Though, it's kind of messy given that the ending of the anime and manga are vastly different and I'm not sure how willing you are to look into the manga. Crona is such a complex character though and it would be interesting to analyze if everything they do is for their mother or is part of what they do truly desire to get rid of their aching fear/pain that resides in them. I suppose it's the classic nature vs. nurture discussion.

    Okay so maybe you won’t ever read this but I need to put my hand up when it came to the statements on Hal aka Titan. I believe you are focusing too much on what is admittedly bad advice when the character of Hal was a horrible hero from the beginning cause he was a crappy person. First off the first scenes we see of him he is mocking the celebration and seems to be jealous of Metroman for not only being able to save Roxanne but his general success. While Roxeanne is being kidnapped behind him he goes on this rambling that shows he does not care for Roxanne platonically, his ideal situation is that she accepts his advances. Watch the language he uses in his rant he tries to play off his word choices but it is clear he is literally putting up his ideal that they will fall in love. Whenever he says something he sees upsets Roxanne he corrects it and tries to play it off as a joke he is trying to mold himself into someone she wants to date. This is commonly known as a red flag because forcing yourself to be someone your not or worse purposely lying about yourself for personal gain shows that you have an unhealthy mindset before a relationship has begun. After metroman supposedly dies he doesn’t really give two shits about it except for the fact it makes Roxanne sad, further detailing an unhealthy attachment. The clincher is the museum steps scene where he attempts to invite her to a ‘party’ under very false pretences he is outright lieing and only reveals the truth when he thinks it will get him what he wants. When this doesn’t work he has a tantrum hating himself for messing up before driving off. While driving off he pulls a hit and run on some nearby property and speeds off recklessly while this is a comedy basic human society laws are in place he does break the law there. This is already the tale of a potentially disturbed guy who really needs to talk to someone about his unhealthy obsessive crush with his coworker. He is not genuine in his affection he accepts the bad advice and acts on it cause that’s what he thinks, Roxanne is not a person to him she is the object of desire he doesn’t legitimately try to just talk with her and I know he’s awkward and nerdy but that’s not an excuse,if he wanted a genuine relationship he had to get to know her like Megamind did open up slowly, share interests (granted he did it under false pretences so Megamind’s getting a ding for that in my book) but that’s not he approach instead he keeps on trying to force his way into a relationship with Roxanne just not overtly until after the powers. All of this happens before the powers before the bad advice, Hal Stewart is CN bordering evil before powers and gets worse from there because at the start he doesn’t have the power to do what he really wants to do, once he gets it he shows his true colours and I have known some bad people like this, if this was not a kids cartoon movie I have no doubts a real life Hal Stewart who perhaps didn’t inherit super powers but did some weight training or got a position of power at his job could be quite the dark character and not the fun kind.

    • @StarkMaximum
      @StarkMaximum 3 роки тому +9

      I mean, you can argue superheroes have a moral obligation to protect others, because their powers allow them to do things normal humans can't. To have fantastic superpowers and then decide "nah fuck those I wanna live alone in an anonymous locale where no one can bother me", that's potentially a moral failing. A justifiable one, but still one.
      But even then, that fails to consider that _most humans, as a rule, are True Neutral._ Yes, everyone wants to say they'd be some flavor of Good because they strive to help others, but there's so many times we as a people could do something to help others but decide that we can't due to extenuating circumstances that really just boil down to "I can't, because that would be bad for me". "That would be bad for me" is an Evil act, even if it's a minor one such as "No I can't cover your shift I'm too tired". It's so insignificant that it wouldn't budge the needle on an alignment shift, but to be Good means to actively reject those choices. That's why a lot of people end up actually being True Neutral, because it's the "I'll decide in the moment what I need to do" alignment, and a lot of decisions they make muddy the waters and shuffle them into that dreaded middle category.
      In that sense, it's not that Metroman "fell" from being Good down to Neutral, he simply chose to become more human, and the entire point of his segment in that movie was to humanize him to us. And to be human is, more often than not, to be True Neutral.

All their decisions are made to keep this person safe, they just kind of follow the person around and dont care about what’s evil and what’s good. A perfect, amazing big video that you could do would be "What DND Alignment is every character from Fate:Zero" I cannot express how well it would work and how much I'd be interested in watching it. And with Artoria being your Character for LG you may already be familiar with it or already have a plan for it, although that could be a familiarity with Fate:Stay night instead since that's technically the main one. But in any case Kirei and Waiver Velvet would be fluidly changing people to follow as they change pretty steadily throughout, Kiritsugu would be interesting to analyze and would be very interesting to follow although most of his changes are in the early and late part of his story. The difficult part comes in the sheer number of characters that would be worth giving attention to. Pretty much every character would merit an alignment which is why I suggested the What alignment are all the characters format but it would be worth waiting to do and to watch as it is easily one of the most fitting series to this I've ever seen and is without doubt one of my top three series of all time. Like under the right circumstances I would be willing to pay way too much money to make this happen.

    Megamind throughout the movie has the goal of things being the way they should be. He believes that because he fell into the prison, he belongs there. He thinks that because his rival is the hero, he must be the villain. He thinks his purpose in life is to serve as an opposing force to Metro Man. But he is also the type of person who knows how much things can actually hurt and avoids those sorts of actions. Every bad thing he does is intentionally reversible. He has a role and plays it, but he ultimately strives for the world to be what it should be. He is, even at the beginning, the embodiment of Lawful. I even think he might be Lawful Good at the beginning, straying to Chaotic Neutral when his entire raison d’etre is destroyed by the loss of Metro Man. He returns to Lawful Good when his worldview is altered to show that he doesn’t HAVE to do “evil”.

    actually saitama would be pretty interesting to see an analysis on. I know he'll still probably end up as neutral, but he's actually a lot more good and heroic than other heroes in one punch man.
    Genos is neutral good though.

    Tbh, I'd rate him as Chaotic Neutral all the way through the start. Even his more callus and chaotic actions are performed because it's what he wants, not just for the sake of chaos.

    Chaotic neutral or Lawful evil just because he very much plays by the "rules" of being a villain.

    Trying to find a hero that's worthwhile inside your time limit that you haven't already done is hard, but I think I got one.

    Megamind movie is comedy with a good message at the end
    you don't hath be the Bad guy if world keep kicking you you don't need be villain if person you hate the most is the hero basically you can be good guy even if you don't think you can

    I'd argue that Megamind is actually lawful rather than chaotic: even at his most villainous, he largely sees himself in terms of the system imposed by society and is fulfilling his designated role (supervillain) within that system rather than trying to overthrow the system itself. When he does actually over throw it by accident he loses all meaning in his life, a conflict that's only resolved when he then has to defend the system from an actual chaotic threat (Titan).
    So it's a character that starts out lawful evil and get pushed into lawful good when exposed to chaotic evil.

    Naofumi Iwatani from Riseing of the Shield Hero. the 1st season is on VRV and it's only 25 episodes. The 1st episode is about 45 min long but the rest are about 25 min, and it is REALLY GOOD!
