11:31 I know you dislike the show; however, there is also in it those few episodes that have Tai lungs “supposed” nephew ping and in the first one Po has to deal with the fact that he is trying to find Tai lung (whom he banished to the SHADOW REALM)
Edit: love your videos man, take as much time as you need.
Didn't expect Raid: Shit Legends
@@minedantaken1684 Raid just paid for my mortgage for 3 months in a time when the corona virus just destroyed conventions and our source of income for the next year, possibly two. especially notable considering we're small and poor as dirt
@@TheLoadingCrew I do know it helps a lot, just didn't expect to see this company this late into 2020. I thought they already went bankrupt, because nobody wanted to play anymore.
I honestly prefer Shen without his back story...
i actually really like this style. we follow one primary character while also seeing how the others play along in the plot alongside them.
I also like how Shen's death, while aided by Po, was technically from his own cannon in which he designed and created. The one thing he thought to have total control over would end up killing him.
"He than straps explosives to his chair which rockets him into the fray.... If that isn't an action carried out by a player character, I don't know what is..."
Absolutely killed me 😂
20:34 "Going up against what's dictated by authority to raise awareness towards injustice"
+1 *Chaotic good*
I would honestly like to hear that full rant
You are right, but there is also the opposite problem of bad teachers getting payed leave, instead of getting fired.
Your Character Alignment for the KFP series really gets onto a point that other video essays either don't grasp or just skim over: Kung Fu/Wushu, as a philosophy, is ultimately about the excellence of self. It is not trying to make a person the best warrior or hero who ever existed, it is trying to make them into the best version of themselves that they can. After this the practitioner just tries to make the world a better place in some way, be that trying to make the next generation better than this one or some other more tangible goal. It really takes the idea that you can't really affect and change the world if you do not understand and "master" yourself first.
The KFP series has its plot and themes based on this philosophy. That is why (good) teachers in the series don't try to force a student into being X (insert result of your choice for X), they just help them better themselves. And failure is an important thing to experience to reach that goal. It's also why the true masters of the franchise don't really change who they are at their core over the course of the films. Po does become a warrior of legendary skill and a teacher over time, but he is still a person who fanboys over Kung Fu, likes to better himself, indulges in simple pleasures, and wants others to also better themselves. Oogway has changed a lot from his time as a warlord, but as a master he is most definitely not an omniscient being of zen. He is honestly quite goofy all the way through, and this in no way detracts from his skill in Kung Fu. Honestly, knowing and accepting his personality is probably part of how he came to be a legendary master in the first place.
Quiet a few people don't expect such a deep perspective and philosophy to be communicated in the KFP franchise, either because "its a kids movie" or because they just don't expect any "big budget" film to be so deep. This is a shame, as they are missing out on the actually really deep themes with their viewpoint. The KFP franchise as a whole really deserves to be more highly regarded in its storytelling and cinematography.
I think that this format of Character Alignment videos, with a focus character and summaries of other characters as they become important, works very well, and would be a good way to make these going forward. And remember that at the end, you and your physical/mental health are more important than making entertainment for us. Take as long as you need. And if you are ready to come back full-time, then we are here to support you.
I am like 90% sure a more major reason why people don't expect this series to have such a deep philisophical meaning is cause.. It's called kung fu panda. Sounds pretty ridiculous
The way ugway being a former warlord always catches me by surprise. Like oath of redemption, way of the open palm multiclass.
I always saw it more as him an Kai being generals to the dynasty that Shen came from since we don’t hear of any other Emperor or any other rival dynasty.
Here's that long-over due F in chat for Wolf Boss... Vindication for one of the biggest badasses in animation.
Also his boss told him betray your pack that wolf went like fuck you im more loyal to my own men than you
F for Wolf Boss
Not giving Tai Lung's escape scene a nat 20 is sin.
Misspelled "although" as "alghough" at 25:17.
At first, I though Kung Fu Panda was just a dumb kids movie, but now I know why it is well-beloved. Might give this trilogy a watch some time. Glad you're feeling better!
The king has returned
I was so surprised to hear that Shen was actually abused and neglected by his parents due to him being albino. It really adds layers to his personality
I would be happy to hear the full teacher rant in another video. It sounds like you have a lot on your mind on that topic. Getting it out there might be a way help with your inner turmoil Stuart.
love how Po did not just Level up as a Monk/Kung-fu master but Level Up as a person as well during entire story
I like how, that Poe is Chaotic-Netral to Chaotic-Good by nature, but his training is trying to pull him towards True-Netral.
I like how its implyed that Kai didn't lost because Po's chi was "too much" but rather because Po gave it willingly. Kai had only taken it by force, and it is established that giving chi have some healing/purifying properties, so he kinda purified Kais evil spirit? Its just my take.
It is actually stated in the opening of the movie that oogway said to him that if he took too much, the less he'll have
Like overflowing a glass of water
@@RAVEVelvet That is another valid interpretation
@@RAVEVelvet however (sorry for answering in two comments) the phrase "the more you TAKE" implies that what is taken is diferent to what is given, since the word "take" has a connotation of "taken by forse" or stolen. Even the color schemes are diferent with Kai s (who uses stole chi) Chi being and Po or Ooway being yellow. Another interpretation could be that what you steal is not the same as what you cultivate yourself.
I have a request: do GLaDOS from the Portal series. I imagine she’d start off as Lawful Evil, but I really want you to figure out where she’d end up by the end of Portal 2.
might as well tackle wheatley while you're at it
Probably back to lawful evil cause of the end of portal 2
Finally a worthy series! Your alignments will be legendary!
the 'WHAT' movie comes out next year!?
this is the first im hearing of this.
I'm suprised you didn't at least mention Kai's theme which is the best out of the three villains themes.
Agreed
I still consider Po to be Chaotic Good personally, yes he is impulsive and all but that's the chaotic part, in general he hates evil and will go out of his way to help people and as I believe the PHB states good means helping others according to their needs, and Po would never work for or cooperate with pure evil so I would land him at CG. Don't get me wrong love this series but there are some flaws in taking it scene by scene to land at the conclusion of alignment. Just my thoughts on the matter.
in more brief terms: Given his general attitude and outlook on life I would call Po between neutral good and chaotic good. The rest I say are pretty spot on however in my humble opinion
I know I don’t speak for everyone but I am so happy to have you back. I didn’t notice you’d left until like two days ago and I was thinking “why am I not seeing any alignment videos. I miss them.” Please take all the time you need to get better. I love what you create and you as a person. If you have the time please keep making these videos. Thank you.
Depression, dude it hits hard well done for caring for yourself.
Definitely like the new format and 100% agree on KFP2 though it's barely edged out by road to el Dorado on my top animated DreamWorks movies.
New format would be a great way to look at Les Miserables
My hot take on Tai Lung - Lawful Evil
Tai Lung has dedicated his life to self improvement and self mastery; to be the best. This puts him as Lawful for the exact same reason Monks had to be in earlier editions of D&D.
Evil isn't a question. His devotion to his pride regardless of what cost he exacts on others is quite clear.
You can diss Kai all you want, but you got to admit he had the most baller theme music
18:15 when you were talking about that scene, I remembered how much I looooved that scene, then went: "Wait a minute...isn't that my laptop background?". Yep, it was.
"TheLodingCrew" I HAVE RETURN!!!!!!
Great to see you back. Was actually thinking about this the other day.
Also like the new format to look at other characters
Can we get alignments for all the Guardians of the Galaxy at some point in the future? That could be fun.
Welcome back m'dude.
Looking forward to more alignments from you in the future!
Kung Fu panda is so important to me because it's a peack imto my culture I never get to see. I adopted and I know so little about my home country so when creates like you do stuff like this is makes me cry in joy, thank you
i like that the more poo get more like uggway the more his alingment is closer to uggway
Omg- THANK YOU! this movie is just SO GOOD and you describe everything so beautifully! Also I DIDNT KNO THE 4TH MOVIE IS COMIN UP AAAA YASS
I like the new style you have gone with for the series. Keep up the awesome work
Welcome back and I'm glad you got over your slump. Depression sucks man and is never easy. I hope on your dark stormy stays you can make it though, be it on driftwood or a yaht or anything between so long as you make it through to see the other side. All the love to ya.
3:12 oh, he’s doing a raid joke? Hah!
*oh wait, fuck he’s serious*
18:16 Well now I really want to see you break down The Prince of Egypt.
I'd really love to see Lelouch Lamperouge from Code Geass. I'd imagine that would be a very interesting video. Just keep doing what your doing. I love these video!
He would probably be Lawful Neutral turned Lawfu Evil then Neutral Evil
Omg, my alarmclock rang at EXACTLY 20:50
The timing could never be better. Haha.
I just noticed this.
HEKING MONTY PYTHON INTERMISSION
you are definitely my favorite UA-camr.
... Honestly I forgot I wasn't subscribed. Not making THAT mistake again. SUBSCRIBED. And this is my fave movie series
18:12, I might argue about the raindrop closure sequence being the best of dreamworks, but I won't argue that the movie is up there with shrek 2 and prince of egypt. Great taste in films btw
Woah, okay. That's a bit more than I was expecting. Well instead of my usual comments that give long explanations for why I think something I'm just gonna list them, also I'm only gonna guess my favorites.
Po, Neutral Good.
Ti Lung, Chaotic Evil
Uh, Bird Villain from second movie, Lawful Evil
Shifu, Lawful Good
Goose Dad, Neutral Good
Bad Guy from 3rd Movie, Neutral Evil
Note that it has been awhile since I actually watched any of these movies (and I've only watched some episodes of the show) so the only guesses I feel confident about are Po, and the big bads from the movies.
Man I really need to watch KFP3. This series has been one I loved growing up. And I'm glad you're back stuart, good to see you're doing fine
Glad to see you're doing better Stuart
2:39 strictly speaking, Ping isnt a blue collar worker, he is a petit bourgeois, because it is explicitely stated he owns the darj noodle shop which makes him a small business owner who still has to do most of the labour at his business because he packs employees.
Glad to see you're doing well
5:06 did same thing with my Goblin Barbarian once with basically same outcome (end up a Monster horde Warlord when I did it)
(fun fact Gombana has show up in future DND games with friends as part world building my friends do everyone love her)
welcome back
I think this is a great idea going forward. helps cover so many at once so you do not burn out soully on the main. I think it will be a great tool moving forward.
i thiught the first kong fu panda tv show. was well recieved and loved
The 3rd movie made me laugh so hard, It was during the scene with Po and his dad in the relic chamber. That was so funny I was riding that high for the rest of the movie. That was a nat 20 scene to me for its sheer comedic brilliance.
That being said, I agree that KAI was was not as good a villain as the others. That's not to say he wasn't a great villain, he really was. He fulfilled his purpose, And did it well. He just followed Shen… who followed Ty lung… that's not easy to live up to.
I saw the 1st movie just before the 2nd movie came out on video. I didn't see the 1st movie initially because somebody I was close to told me it wasn't worth it. (Needless to say I take their opinion with a large grain of salt now...) When I saw the movie, I was really impressed. I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would, and then I asked my friend who had seen the 2nd movie who the villain was. She told me it was a peacock. I wasn't impressed. Boy did I realize how wrong I was…
I agree with him here I would love to see watch read whatever involving a redemption of Tai Lung
This. This was good.
'God Awful TV-Show' .. Okay,I'm gonna have to HARD disagree with you on THAT one.
Yeah, the series is SURPRISINGLY decent, not great, but not awful either, the problem is that its a childs cartoon that doesnt tries to be anything else than a good cash grab. The characters are correct versions of their movie counter-parts, but it is a cartoon based on the movies and that apparently takes place between the second and third movie, so they cant add character development that would interfere with the third and upcoming fourth movie.
Yeah, say what you will about the writing for the characters that existed in the movies first, but the rogues gallery is honestly up there with Danny Phantom and the early parts of The Fairly Oddparents in terms of quality for Nickelodeon villain standards.
@@LordofSadFac wait hold up
upcoming 4th movie?
They're making a fourth kung fu panda?
Where do they go from a trilogy?
All three movies were, in order, Body, Mind, and Spirit. An enemy from Shifu's past, an enemy from Po's past, and an enemy from Oogway's past. Where do they go from there?
@@aetherresonant9079 my guess is that MAYBE it will have something similar to the concept of the five elements(Fire, Water, Earth, Wood, and Metal) but I'm not sure on if those have any spiritual meaning or anything. Also,If I'm remembering correctly the number 4 has negative connotation because it sounds like the word Death(Though that might just be in Japanese).Don't know I'm just spit balling here.🤔
@@LordofSadFac There's a third one?
Shen and Tai Lung both get redemption treatment by the fandom in most AUs, probably for the sympathetic reasons you mentioned here. Great analysis
Sorry to hear you had to go through that, but we are all glad you made it through it
I actually would like to hear your ramble about teachers and such, maybe do a little special if you feels like it, sounds interesting
I honestly like Kai in that he is the only villain to take Po’s ridiculous and silly nature in stride. That one scene where Po recites all his titles and Kai is , genuinely, appreciative of it always gets me. Like “I put a LOT of effort into getting these titles. I would like at least ONE PERSON to say them, please.”
Later on, when the village is fighting back, yes, Kai is irritated, but he is also amused and intrigued. Like “seriously, he expects this to work?”, which then transforms into “WHY IS THIS WORKING?!”.
Also he is an interesting villain in that, unlike Tai Lung or Shen, there was no lesson to try and impart on him. He is not someone to be taught anything. He is evil. There was not going to be ANY negotiation with him in the first place.
19:18 That had me cracking up man
Fitting role for po. "The black and white being that leads to balance" while I probably butchered that quote it does fit, he's a embodiment of Ying-yang by seeing the balance of everything, even being goofy as fuck in a serious moment and knowing when to flip that script.
Thanks to your videos I've been working on a homebrew rule to turn alignments into an achievement system. I've made grids based on your chart on a magnetic board, use colored pieces to track player progressions & am still working on tieing feats & other rewards to it. This would be so much easier if I actually DM'd or my party & DM were even slightly interested
Suggest it to someone who is good with the dnd alignment system and polish it then show it to your group
wait wait wait, there's gonna be a 4th Kung Fu Panda?! How did I miss that?
Po's mom sacrifice made me cry a little bit so that's still an important Panda in my book.
"And especially not that God-awful cartoon series."
Dude. I GREW UP ON THAT CARTOON SERIES, MAN!
Can you do the D&D alignment for the How to Train Your Dragon movie series? And the TV series as well? (Together or separate, doesn't matter to me) That would be pretty awesome.
When the 3rd movie came out I was in a Martial Arts Gym(Muai Thai specifically) and we all went to the local cinema and even performed to promote the gym and the movie(I think that was the reason I was like 11 there). At that age I wasn’t really a fan of the franchise because most of the jokes didn’t work for me but appreciate it now a lot.
Thank you for helping me reappreciate these movies after getting bogged down by the show
How to make a Peacock intimidating? Give him a fucking cannon!
I was playing dark souls 2 listening to this in the background, and died of poison at the exact second Po said "Skadoosh"
I'm gonna start him off at chaotic neutral leaning true neutral because that's just what I think he is. At the end of the first movie, he is easily Neutral leaning Chaotic Good, and same with the second, and I got Neutral leaning Neutral Good at the very end. Po's character arc is one that is quite interesting, and I definitely relate with his character (both of us being ENxPs and eating our feelings away). Mad props for Po, I love him, Nat 20 character.
I like the New format more character disusing is all ways good, Could you sometime take a look at the characters in Emperor Pilaf Saga from first arc of Dragonball. If anything it would be nice to see how the characters break down.
It's like things came full circle
So who else wants Hiccup and Toothless from how to train your dragon?
F for the wolf captain
I remember being annoyed mei mei. Didn't get weapons like kai's since it might of been better suited than nunchucks lol
I am currently on my last semester for my educational degree. I feel you Stuart I feel you.
Hey man love your stuff. You know what would be really intresting: The Prestige. Just the three main charecters because I pretty sure hugh jackman is evil in that movie but im not sure how evil. Keep doing what your doing 💘
If only I could be so consistent with character.
They could of made Mei Mei more serious considering her skills with the ribbons but she was made into another joke with the other pandas
I'd love to meet you and just discuss movies and other nerd stuff. You sound like an awesome guy.
How are monkey and crane just neutral? They're obviously neutral good
More of neutral moral
@@tristandelasuertemexcla thank God I'm not the only one who likes the 5 by 5 chart
@@YooranKujara 5 x 5 chart?
I personally love all three movies, but I love the second one the most.
I’m a major fan of Kung Fu Panda, it’s my favorite Dreamworks movie series, Po, Tigress, and Crane are some of my favorite fictional characters, and Ping and Oogway are just plain funny.
14:37 This made me laugh! 😂
i my opinion tai lung is lawful evil in his mind this was the deal he made to shi fu that if he he worked until he broke he would become the dragon warrior and in his mind he was cheated but i can see your side
not a bad one actually!
my biggest issue with KFP3 is that implies that oogway took an interest in Po because he knew about the panda's natural prowess in chi. This is in direct opposition to the core theme of the first film, "there is no secret ingredient". Po was chosen by blind luck, and became the dragon warrior through personal and internal growth. Oogway "going with the flow" and making the choice that the universe has clearly made for him rather than impose his will on the universe is clearly aligned with his philosophy.
1:48
You bite your tongue you bearded jaggoff.
That tv show made my childhood.
"God awful"
The audacity
"they hated jesus because he told the truth"
@@TheLoadingCrew You're opinion and mine are our own
But I'm still gonna be pissed about your opinion.
Thankfully I'm not spiteful enough to dox you on it
Unlike my friend steve-
the reason why kung fu panda 3 works where others don't is because the story had a clear plan and direction and they stuck with it as they told the story they wanted to tell, and not the production nightmare that was starwars that shall not be named.
I think is interesting where the whole Kung fu master being a badass hero comes from, you said it was an Popular American depiction of Kung Fu... but it all, came from China, with the Kung fu movies, and the reason is because, because of all the World War 2 traces it left, China sufered a lot of assimilation from British and Japanese armies, cause they were considered an easy targets, so after all that, the stigma still stayed, that's why we have a lot of Kung Fu movies of one sole man, defeating an entire dojo.
It was kinda the same reason why in america they created Superman, a powerful hero capable of defeating all the advercities that America were suffering during that time.
this is a very interesting factoid! thank you for sharing
I love the scene where Po finds inner peace, but my #1 Dreamworks scene has got to be Hiccup realizing he needs to fly by instinct in the first How to Train Your Dragon Movie.
I don't know how requests are done (as in if they are plucked from comments or it's like a vote somewhere), I kinda like popping in when a game or character I find interesting is being talked about. Was wondering if you may consider doing something for the 3 Dark Souls games. (Only thing is some character views and motivations are hidden in item descriptions and other hidden lore)
It'd be subjective in some parts and come down to head cannon in some places, but it seems like a series perfect for this show.
never realised how deep some of this was
Po saving masters from jail
*You are being rescued, please do not resist*
Kung Fu Panda 2 is just a PG version of Chronicles of Riddick.
Please do the Riddick movies?
Hope you continue on your road to recovery!

sad
Okay, maybe it's just me, but I think there's one simple thing that would recontextualize how most people think about DnD alignments. We should recognize the four cardinal alignments as true alignments, the same way we due with true neutral
I love Stewart so much lol!
you shouldn't. he sucks lol
Wait wait Really?!? There’s gonna be another Kung Fu Panda movie!?! 🥳
