I do not want a 4 cyl hybrid , TOYOTA NO MORE, BRING THE V6 BACK
With crazy markups the average working 9 to 5 person won't even be able to afford this truck
Yep. My wages have been the same for 5-years and with inflation the same wages have way less buying power. I plan to keep buying used, especially since we're saving for a house, which is also almost impossible with current inflation and interest.
Neither of these trucks are meant for work. 1/2 ton and up is meant for work.
@@camposcreations2323 besides towing heavy equipment there’s literally no difference
Work 9-10pm 😂
I’m so tired of hearing people complain about markups. Plenty of dealers aren’t doing them. Shop around
Imagine the kids in the back seat playing with your seat settings
It was great to collab with you Stephen! We are both passionate about trucks so this was fun video to do.... I just uploaded mine as well.
Toyota is currently working to put a stop to dealership markups
@@kevinteran5624 my local dealer hybrids marked up $3000, non-hybrid are discounted
When is the new T100 due? 😉
I forgot the type of Toyota dealer but some are not allowed to sell over msrp. I got my 21 200 HE for msrp when some dealers were asking 10-15k over
you have to change name to Toyota press.
Nice collab. "Gimmicky" is exactly the word that popped in my head when seeing the seats. Just seems like another thing they threw in there to justify the inevitable high price. Love everything I've seen of the TRD Offroad though. If I can make it happen that's the trim I plan on getting
Minus the sport bar, the Trailhunter is nicer. Better hood, no glossy fenders like the TRD, nicer wheels simpler interior. TRD just looks too busy.
You also lose the rear leg room due to the ISO Seats in the TRD Pro...
@@darthstruktif u buy the trd pro meaning you’re the driver not passenger 😂😂😂
Better hood and nicer wheels on the trailhunter?..Not so sure about that...
Trail hunter with the trd scoop and 6 feet bed is the perfect combination for me! Nice video guys!
Great to have David on your channel! Personally, I would get the TRD Pro. I love everything about it but not too keen on that suspension seat system. I hope Toyota listens and make it an option for buyers.
I just can't get over how much these trucks are going for these days. When I was younger in the early 90's you could buy a base Toyota Truck for $7400. $50k-$60k for a mid size 4x4 is freaking ridiculous yet they sell like hot ckaes.....And banks wonder why there are so many Repo's in the USA 🙄
30 years of inflation bud. Gas was $1 in the early 90s. Now is over $5. Multiply that 7400 by 5.
@@jeremiahjolley7894gas prices are a terrible comparison for inflation. $7400 x 2.24 gives you a better number. So yah, they are way more expensive. They also do way more.
@@jeremiahjolley7894 yep and we as Tax Payers and voters let it happen...very Sad.
@@eppyzwhopper was 99c
@@osheenhaghnazarian1073 yeah i get it but these are supposed to be the inexpensive trucks. When the average American family takes home $73k and a truck they are buying costs $50k? And banks wonder why there are so many repos. They can build a truck that doesn't have all the crap you don't need for less money though. They don't because they make more money off they trucks with all the BS on them.
Excellent content Steve and great to have David on the channel! Can't wait for you guys to be able to drive these trucks. Everyone's stepping up their game for off road capability. I'll reserve my judgment for when you do a massive comparison with the new Ford Ranger Raptor, ZR2, Pro 4X, and new Tacoma TRD Pro
I agree with David, those seats on the Pro are way overkill and of no use for 90% of the people that buy these trucks. They should make them an option and not standard. I don't like the reduced back seat legroom because of them. Glad to see the Pro grey interior instead of that horrible red. I hope you can get grey or black with a black Pro.
I don't get the idea behind the sport bar, most people would rather not have it, i wonder if it is an option. Haven't they seen all the trucks with bed racks and tents on top?
Stephen, It is always a pleasant surprise to have David on your channel.😉 In this debate between Tacomas I would choose the Land Cruiser or 4Runner and pair it with a utility trailer. Today's 4Runner has a better back seat than the new Tacoma and the upcoming Land Cruiser has a huge 2nd row. 🥳🥳What is the point of a 4 door truck with such a cramped rear seat? 🤔
Great video and I like the expertise and trustworthy energy between you two. It was a good idea doing this together. I can’t wait for the driving impressions and to start hearing real world language for what driving these will be like.
Thank you for doing this vid
‘17 Tacoma TRD PRO
Awesome collab with Automotive Press on here! Thanks for the video.
I when to a Ranger in 2020 and where the turbo really shines is at elevation . I live in Wyoming and I drive at lot at altitude and the turbo doesn't turn to crap as elevation increases. I came out of a Taco TRD Off Road and I was shocked at the performance improvement with a turbo.
Great video. I got to say one thing I miss seeing is an engine bay that is "clean" and well designed - I get plastic engine covers are not perfect, but they at least suggest that someone cared about what things look like. I know the ship has sailed, but still, it would be nice to see some care and budget put into the organization of the engine bay.
Two points about your discussion on the trucks. On the Trd pro, you have manually adjustable suspension. You have a setting for off-road and a setting for on road.. also David mentioned that the bedliner was too smooth, but this is the prototype model, and the production model will have a bedliner with grip
Trailhunter with the 6 foot bed option would be my spec. More room for overlanding and just weekend camping
I agree. I feel like they didn’t do it because some trails get so tight with a truck as it is. Extending the bed would only make it worse.
@@ValkenDnB It depends on the trail. Black Bear Pass, Elwood Pass, Hell's Revenge, Poughkeepsie Gulch -- yes. Imogene, Fins & Things, Ophir, Pass -- no. Length is not a factor. I took my Ford F150 XLT with a 6.5 bed Super Cab on the latter trails and it did fine (Fins & Things was definitely the most challenging).
I'd enjoy that 6ft bed for one very big reason..it will work with a Kimbo camper..which needs a 5.5ft and up..if wanted, anyone can drop the camper on its feet. And go off roading..best of both worlds..I'm not into overhead tents! ..the Trailhunter works for me..😊
Great vid guys. So glad you showed the fit on the back seating in the Pro. That had been my biggest question about it.
Awesome you guys team up for this review.
Great team-up, TK! David is an excellent, authoritative source of information! Well done!
Trail Hunter is one seriously good looking truck. ❤️
They started showing this truck about 5 months ago. I am surprised that they haven’t released pricing and still are not allowing you to build a truck. Love your videos and keep up the great work!!
The new Tacos look good. I think I would go for the Trailhunter; however, I would remove that rear bar.
Yeah I’d remove it as well, it’s ugly as hell
Same
Same. I'd want the roof rack though.
Yep
Trucks started to get complicated with electronics. Then turbos entered the game, now electronics + turbo+ hybrid stuff… I’m not sure if this is the right path to reliability???
Planned obsolesence...
I've seen one 2022 Tundra with over 100,000 miles so far listed on Cargurus
I would most likely get the Trailhunter myself. I like the interior and exterior of the Trailhunter just a little more than the TRD Pro. Buy the way Steven congrats on the runner up award Truck Kings received. You guys do a lot of great content and are very deserving of the recognition.
Great video guys! Love what Toyota is doing!
Great to see the TRD Pro with a grey interior instead of the obnoxious red, but I'm still thinking just a regular TRD Off Road is the way to go. That sports bar is something most people are just gonna take off so they can put on a full bed topper of some sort, so it just seems like a waste of money.
I would have to agree the red is horrible looking. I would never buy a vehicle with red interior. It'll always be black.
Was looking for trd pro backseats videos to see how much space got eaten by those seats, can't really find any videos except you guys. Great job!
Man, this new generation of Tacoma looks so good, I will definitely pick the TRD Pro over the Trailhunter, I don't need the overlanding gear, and the seats in the TRD Pro, just look pretty awesome. Also 465lb-ft of torque is pretty cool
I'd be happy just to have an sr5 crewcab long bed. I don't have a lot of places to go off roading to get the trd off road package, so i feel it would be a waste of money. I have been living with a midsized truck for eight year's now, and i have been able to do everything that i needed. Everything i tow is on light side like a boat, camper, and landscape trailer.
I would absolutely get a midsize truck. They have several advantages over the full size in terms of their maneuverability and offroad chops in many cases, and can tow and haul most things the average person will need to tow or haul. That said I do drive a ram 1500 lol 😆
Nice job. The way you had to crunch down in order to climb into the truck around the 17:00 min mark made me realize I need to go with a full size truck.
Just the comparison I was looking for. Great review.
Made my day seeing the Pro with black / red stitching interior combo, I'd go with pro, exterior black, ceramic coat before using, bad ass combo!! 😎
I have a 2024 TRD Pro Tundra in the Terra color and I love it. The color looks much better in person than in pics.
I hope you two do more videos together. If you're an overland then trailblazer. If you're an off road speedster then TRD Pro. My personal preference is the TRD Pro but the trailblazer is awesome, too.
Great duo love it! Do it more often!
Bring back vudoo and Calvary blue ASAP
Agree! Cavalry Blue Bro!
I like this combination review with David, so refreshing so I subscribed
Outstanding Review!
Most excellent review! 😁
The iso dynamic seats are probably a option if I had to guess so I would go with the pro without the iso dynamic seats.
I love the TRD pro but the loss in back seat room with the suspension is a big concern.
I miss the old guard. Gifted by brother my 2017 Tundra as I got into a Silverado 2500 Diesel. That drive train while aging, was absolutely bullet proof. With the 4.30 rear end, the throttle response was amazing. Great truck…
Hi the question I keep on asking is can you get seats for from the TRD Pro in to the trailhunter ? Because I didn't get an answer from anyone before.
Great video! Did you get a good look at the engine, does it have a spin on oil filter? Thanks
Stephen you and David make a great team !
Hope to see more videos on the Tacoma !
Love this colab!
I'm still having fun with my 2020 taco trd off-road, 6 speed manual. Only 24,000 miles so far. For now, she's a keeper. If toyota comes out with a cement grey or similar hue color for the new tacos, then I might be a sucker to buy a new one.
Been waiting for this collab
Any first year truck has some built in surprises. Buy year three and Toyota will have it perfected.
Great collaboration!
Stephen is a great addition when it comes to Toyota reviews !
Awesome video!
Coffee and Truck King 🙌🏽
Two great hosts
Iso dynamic seats are standard in the TRD Pro, but is there going to be an option to not get the seat in the trd pro?
very clever design with all of the "after market" upgrades.
Thank you for this good video. Looking forward to your off road test drive comparison as i would most probably move from my 1Gr-FE Prado to a Trailhunter for my overland use in EMEA. Greatings from France 🙂 #LISORI
Can the TRD Pro be optioned with the air compressor?
SO glad that the TRD Pro has a black interior. But Idk. I kinda dig the burnt orange. I wish the flares could be color matched though.
No word on powertrains. Are they the same as the ones in cheaper models? Specifically, can they be used in 4L and 4H modes on non-slippery surfaces, or only on slippery ones?
Can anyone tell me what the lifecycle of the battery in the hybrid system is and what the possible cost will be.
What happened to the power tailgate?
Wonder what size turbo is on it and it’s location. Also no engine cover?
Great content
That trailhunter looks super good. Love that contrasted piping on the seats.
If 10 years ago someone were to walk up to me and say that all the trucks will be strapping 4 bangers and electric motors into the best-selling midsize segment, I would tell you to go eat your hat. I get it, emissions, etc., but having a parts bin in your back pocket while durability testing versus running a personal vehicle with this much weight on a 4 cylinder is a dramatic difference in perspective and experience.
That said, what they've done with the Tacos looks fantastic aesthetically and the upgeared variants put the Tundra to shame. Make a Tundra-sized Trailhunter with a respectable engine, I'd be a buyer.
I love the Terra color!
When reviewing the rear seat legroom, it is great that you indicate how tall you are; however, please also indicate how far forward or back the front seat is. For the TRD Pro, it very much looked like the front seat was forward and not all the way back. Secondly, nobody every mentions the width between the wheel wells on the bed. Can you get a 4x8 sheet of plywood between the wheel wells?
I’m not enough of a chad to drive either of these trucks.
What?
@@terrynichol577 The brim of my hat isn’t flat enough and my energy drink consumption is inadequate.
@@dontdriveangree I think you're getting confused with a Toyota product for people who drive those jacked up Dodge, Ford and Chevy trucks. We're different over here in Toyota
What's a Chad 😂
@@darrenbare9348 exactly
From the video it looks like the Trailhunter sits higher than the TRD Pro? Any height/width differences?
2026 TRD Pro for me. I always buy the 3rd production year of a generation.
Dude says no problems with the engine being turbo since Toyota thoroughly tests the cars first??? Well tell that to the first year New Tundra Turbo Owners🙄
Wasn’t that just a bit of relatively common teething issues on early production models?
@@ALMX5DP yes turbo failure amongst other things... Never buy a 1st year anything not even a Toyota.
@@eppyz sure but that’s not to say there are inherent problems, like you said best to steer clear of any first model year anything.
They use that motor in the hilux so it’s proven
They use the new motor that just came out specifically for North America in a Hilux🤔 Don't think we are talking save engine here at all.@@alvaroromero4794
Am not generally a speed freak but I really do love overlanding(especially rock crawling).,so automatically am for the Trailhunter.
Those are some damn good looking trucks. When my tundra is paid off I may spring for one
Nice review. Ill take th 6ft box everyday
Nice review guys! Man will these trucks ever get released!! This feels like the longest lead up to purchase a Toyota ever. Maybe they jumped the gun and felt the pressure from ford and GM?
The shocks on the back of the 2 front seats should be optional. Very disappointing that it takes up leg room! This will be a deal breaker for people!
I was thinking a knee breaker for back seat passengers in a crash. Hard no on them.
@@dadventuretv2538 Exactly. Toyota screwed up if those seats are standard on all Taco trims. It should be optional for only people who want to race and drive fast off-road. I don’t need or want shock seats! What a gimmick!!
Are the crew cabs shorter with this redesign? The rear doors seem shorter.
So did they get rid of the button push to open the bed door of the truck?
You said you like going fast off road sooooo....would u do trd pro or gladdy mojave?
My dad's JL Rubicon with the 2.0 turbo hauls ass despite all the talk of "turbo lag", so i'm familiar with David's description of the power delivery. Even my supercharged & tuned 4.0 V6 Tacoma feels like it has more lag. Aside from sentiments about hybrid engines, I don't think people are gonna miss those slow V6's. Ford, Chrysler and GM have been pushing out reliable applications for a while now so trust in Toyota to shine above them. Only problem is, not many of us are gonna be able to afford them for a while 😂 Can't wait to see the upcoming driving reviews!
I agree on just about everything except for the Fox shocks. They are notorious for premature failures, in our local 4x4 group we say " you are paying for a name brand sticker and shock made in china." My 19 trd pro 4runner had them fail three times in the front and once in the back all before 30k miles. I do love they put OME shocks on the trail hunter. I was really hoping they would put those into the pro. Most people toss the Fox shocks anyway and get Kings or something similar. Still I wish toyota would make all shocks/struts on every trim themselves. Toyota just has better quality.
Why is the trd pro faster than the trail hunter? Just wondering.. don’t know a lot about vehicles and I’m seeing they have the same engine and what not. Learn me up plz!
air compressor needs to be a all around thing for the off-roaders.
🇺🇸 What's the ground clearance on the 2. Models and regular sr5
I don't know if it is me but I see Stephen More Leaner and great video thanks for always being there for the trucks community
Nice to see the collaboration! My question is which truck will be smoother on gravel and forestry roads?
@Born… Almost certainly the Pro because of the new seat.
The rockguards are bolted to the body, not the frame, is there some change in the design that won't destroy the body if you actually offroad with the PRO?
Good year tires are good for a year
As an Australian, I'm so bloody glad you pronounced emu correctly! 😆
Is the pro always a short box?
If so I would have to take the trailhunter.
When do you think Toyota will include the 2024 Tacoma on their website in the configurator mode??
Good collab.
I absolutely love the Terra color!!!❤
Is the ARB sport bar an option? I think it’s annoying and in the way.
Live in a very rainy climate and mud everywhere. Which one would be the ideal one ? Also, I know is not mentioned here but how about the Tacoma TRD off-road in my situation?
Great video, we need more collaborations like this one. Take them both to the trails.
