Popcorn ceilings were once made of asbestos. It is good to warm about that.

If you’re vacuuming or painting popcorn ceiling, please wear closed goggles. I had eye injury from one of those popcorns falling into my eye and I needed surgery because those particles have metal in them. It fell into my eye, penetrated top layer and started rusting around my iris, blinding my eye. Surgery was painful and recovery was no fun. Be careful with popcorn ceilings 🙏🏻

I am a painting contractor. Please do not encourage your subscribers to purchase sample paint to do the touch ups . Most woodwork is either satin or semi gloss. Sample paints are usually flat or eggshell which will insure that your touch up will stick out like a sore thumb. Also, sample paints are the lowest quality paint and not really good for long time use. They are meant to just give you an idea of what the color will look like.
When cleaning painted surfaces use Simple Green or a similar product and please use a cloth similar in color to your painted surface. This way any dye that is in the fabric will not go onto the surface you’re trying to clean.
If you are touching up any surface with a sheen always use the tool that you applied it with. Brushing any sheen will make it shinier and rolling will give it less sheen. On walls just use a little roller and it will help the touch up to blend in.

Seriously though, thanks for the info! Ive been wondering what cleaner to add to my recent arsenal for painted walls. Im interested in learning how to clean jobsites back up into houses again! I moved into a place a little early that is just built, im taking over the cleaning of the unit.

I had to clean my moms entire house (including walls) and then we decided to repaint every room in our house so I’ve cleaned a lot of walls lately. I use a microfiber cloth, attached to my Swiffer (fold the cloth, then attach) and clean away. Dust first with a dry microfiber cloth, Then wash with a wet microfiber cloth, rinse & repeat. Saved my shoulders, saved my time and saved my sanity.

One paint type not mentioned was satin. Not every brand carries it from my experience. It’s a step above eggshell but less shiny than semi gloss. I’ve chosen to paint my whole house with it because it’s a similar look to eggshell but way easier to clean

I no longer do once in a while cleanings so to say. I've adopted a more forgiving cleaning schedule for me. My new mantra at the moment is "a little is better than not doing it" so there are days where I just want to run a vacuum around to pick up what I can and just do what I can. Then twice a month I'll actually make the effort of moving things off the floor. Same with walls. I run my OXO duster over the walls a few times a week just to keep up with it. I found I stopped cleaning because having to haul things around to clean under seemed like too much and needed a special day and then everything just keeps getting dirtier to where it is a chore. You actually helped me despite the fact I don't follow all of your suggestions. So thanks. I bought your mop and I love it.

That is so true. If you can't get the motivation to do a thorough cleaning, just do 15 - 30 minutes and it will keep things in check until you are able to get to it. I love the techniques and suggestions here, but no, I don't have the time nor inclination to be as thorough as MM is.

      John 3:16-21
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

      2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
      Hebrews 11:6
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

I almost always go for softened colors on the walls. It really sets that atmospheric background. I like doing an outdoorsy, kinda vintage yet clean/simple modern look. Picking a piece of art or landscape and using a paint color that makes the room feel like you're there. Like the winter night domey sky, that after the rain feeling, a misty mountain sunrise, a field of flowers etc. Kinda like that foggy forest accent wall. Whatever is inspiring.

Unfortunately if you have a matte finish on your walls, wiping away any scuff marks leaves “wipe” marks as it almost wipes away the finish. I was told when our house was being painted that the matte is ultra durable but sadly that’s not the case!

    • @kevinbirge442
      @kevinbirge442 3 роки тому +5

Matte shows less imperfections, but it usually isn't wipeable like a higher sheen would be. I often suggest an eggshell sheen to my customers if someone wants to see less imperfections but still would like an easier cleaning surface. However, some mattes (or flats) are very washable and scrubbable depending on the hardness of the resin used to manufacture them. These can be scrubbed enough to remove any dirt, will stay clean, and won't burnish (shine) from the scrubbing.

    • @katelynjohnston4081
      @katelynjohnston4081 3 роки тому +5

@@kevinbirge442 Our painters used Benjamin Moore Regal. When they asked what finish I wanted, I stated that I wanted what they would typically use, and something that would be durable and easy to clean. They told me everyone is moving to this flat matte instead of eggshell and if you need to touch up you won’t have to paint a whole wall, just the area needing touch up. Fast forward to after painting and I find a mark on the wall that I gently scrubbed with a damp cloth. Now all you can see is wipe marks months later! I am so disappointed. I am so confused why they told me it was easy to clean!

Using the Extendable Wall Mop w/ 6 Replacements:
    1. 4:04 Use one of the Chenille Mop parts as a Duster. 4:19 Keep it completely dry as if it's wet the dust will attatch itself to it and it's difficult to remove.
    2. 4:38 Make a mixture of All Purpose Cleaner OR Warm Water, Pine Sol & Dawn Dish Soap/Dish Soap
    3. 4:48 Use a mostly dry/dampened microfiber cloth and wipe the walls top to bottom
    4. Redo the wipe with a completely dry microfiber cloth/Towel to moist walls/base boards.
    Tips:
    1. To remove scuff marks or fingerprints, use the same mixture on them. If it's particularly greasy, put cornstarch on top of it, let it sit for a bit, gently scrape it off w/ a dull edge, then wipe it off w/ the mixture.

I always clean from the bottom to the top. This may help if your paint is easily streaked from the cleaner chemical reaction. If you have the cleaner drip down the wall it may leave permanent streaks. Just a thought. When going from the bottom to the top the previous moisture will usually help to fade any streaks

Hi! Thank you for your video. Y’all are awesome!!! I’ve had success cleaning oils and major fingerprints from flat painted walls (or any type of wall paint) with a white wash cloth and colgate regular paste toothpaste. It is a miracle cleaner and has the gritty texture similar to baking soda that helps wipe build up of this nature plus splattered bug juices. I just put a little toothpaste on a dampened white washcloth and wipe then rinse the washcloth and wipe back over the spot. Paint has never come off nor become discolored. I would test spot before doing this but I’ve had great success and it’s minty fresh.

My favourite colour is green so, I always have to have at least one green room in my house, which right now is my office/craft room. In general, I like pastel colours - my bedroom is currently painted in a pale peach. A second bedroom is a pale blue. The remainder of the house is painted in neutral colours.

Thanks for uploading this video! I’ve got wallpaper in half of my home. I decided to replace the wallpaper, but stores no longer stock wallpapers. It’s all special order which makes it difficult if you can’t actually see it before buying. You also have to buy more than you actually need in case you make a mistake. If you don’t, you have to go through the special order process and hope it matches.

I prefer bold colors on my bedroom I got a lavender blue , cause I find it more calm , my moms bedroom is lilac ,and her office is peach , we still haven't deceided on our living room , but there we're leaning more on something more neutral like taupe , and maybe a tad darker on the wall above the fireplace , or even a nice brick like pattern with paints.

I love colourful rooms. My bathroom is a dark fuchsia and I love it but it's a pain having to wash the walls with watered down Spray Nine every 6 or so weeks. The dark colour releases surfactants like crazy when it gets damp and leaves gummy runs down the walls and most cleaners dont work on them.

I am a fan of painting wall colors based on natural room lighting. I don't get as technical as professionals:"every eight inches color change as the light falls". But I do like soft warm colors in East facing rooms, cool tones in West facing. Unless a room is stuffy,in which case cool,or a kitchen wants for more 'appetizing' colors.
    I don't if I'd choose red.
White walls maybe, I don't like greige because it reminds me of dirty cleaning/dishwater and brown is depressing unlike mountain grey. However I don't imagine painting a wall grey(at least I haven't been inspired by any space to do so yet) . Grey-blue ,or grey/mauve purple possible. I think of neutrals as a base or floor pairing for color:grey + pink/blue/purple, sometimes winter red; white/white creme + yellow, green, peach; gold + autumn red, orange, jewel tones.
Black, brown, and green I probably won't pick for walls. The first two - I don't want to be surrounded by dark gunk(black accents fine, brown cabin or western country some splashes fine), the green lacks the texture of shadow and variation found in green expanses of nature/grass/forest and certain shades lack the chlorophyll blueness of living green. Even with non stagnant shades I prefer to keep green an accent, or no higher than bed height.

I used to paint every room a different color. In my new house all the walls are the same color, all the carpet is the same color, all the hardwood floors are finished in the same color. I’m luvin’ every second of it. It is nice how cohesive everything is. I’ve lived here 5 years so definitely time to clean the walls. Unfortunately the builders used flat paint so it is not the easiest to clean.

As someone with allergies who needs to clean rooms regularly - these tips dont cut it to really clean the surfaces. You really need to wash the wall. A spin mop works. And sals suds by dr bronners works way better than dish soap or any detergent because it rinses away easier. The key is to soap and then really remove all the soap. Finish with vinegar and water to rinse off soap residue. So sponge mop or spin mop with sals suds, spin mop vinegar and water rinse, dry if you like with microfiber mop or dry cloth. For popcorn ceilings for allergies although not advised to add moisture- after vacuuming try wet sponge mop while wearing googles with foaming scrubbing bubbles sprayed on the ceiling. Then rinse with sponge mop. This works for allergies and ceiling looks nicer. It may leave residue behind but it fixes the allergy issue from any accident.

I really don't have time to re-paint the house. I'm so overwhelmed by this. My baseboards look great because they are easy to clean and the paint stays on. I'm stressed to say the least over my walls
