As a painter we have to clean baseboards and trim all the time, Krud Cutter works great. It's amazing how if you just cleaned the baseboards they look almost like you just painted them. Yes! No one talks about baseboards but I literally notice it whenever I visit someone’s home or place or business. I can’t help but notice it! I’m so glad how you described as the hallmark of a clean place.
So true! No one mentions they, but people do notice them. Thank you for taking the time to write this comment and for watching the video, I appreciate it! 🤗
As a kid the deep-clean had us scrubbing them by hand with soap and water. I HATED that more than anything. As an adult I use my vacuum attachment. I’ll never get eye-level with a baseboard ever again. 😂
I have been cleaning for 20 years hospitals ,nursing homes, and now for 6 years I have cleaning houses. I use my broom to clean baseboards and corners. A back saver.
I wrap a microfiber cloth from the $1 store around the broom with a rubber band. I’ll sometimes spritz it with a little pledge. It’s no bending at all and gets in corners and edges perfectly just like a broom would. The microfiber grabs the dust like a dream and you don’t need a separate tool.
I am new to this channel and I am not a pro. I have a difficult affective disorder and I discovered to my surprise that cleaning is very therapeutic and meditative so now I really enjoy doing it. I am in no hurry so I have the luxury of spending time on the task which aids mindfulness. I do not have OCD, germophopia and I am not really a perfectionist but baseboards have always been my pet peeve and obviously most people ignore them even while keeping the floors spotless. I have four big dogs so a perfect showroom home is not really possible at all times, but I love learning from pros and this channel offers me interesting glimpses to the actual vocation. Thanks!
Angela, I just love your channel! You are so spot on all the time! I had home/commercial cleaning business for 10 years. Absolutely, clean baseboards tell the story! Thanks for all your help in cleaning!!!
My baseboards are part of my top to bottom, left to right. Once they have been deep cleaned a maintenance clean is a breeze. Norwex Envirowand is my duster for high and low areas.
I vacuum every day, I have a few things I do daily, but I usually focus specifically on a section of the house each day and that is when I clean the baseboards. Typically I use the attachment on my vacuum or the mop as I go (🙈) haha. That microfiber thing you used at the end is amazing and would save my back! Looks much quicker too. I prefer anything that is more efficient and can cut my time down. Going to give that a try!!
It sounds like you do a great job keeping things tidy around the house. I love my microfiber towels. Here are the ones I like to use: www.amazon.com/dp/B07GX7GLGQ?ref=exp_angelabrown_dp_vv_d They work great for me 😊
Take a bucket with cleaning solution (any type) as if to mop but instead use a broom. You do not have to bend down and it scrubs it right off. I bought one of those all plastic brooms that I keep stored away to use for baseboards only.
So thrilled I saw this video! I’ve lived in my 1889 Victorian home since I was 29 ( Now I’m 69) The home has tall, dark wood baseboards, which I always cleaned … But now that I’m “crippled” with arthritis in my knees, I can’t crawl along the floor, like I did all those years, to clean baseboards…. Now I can get the long , telescoping duster you showed in the video & feel better about my baseboards! Thanks so much!
I love it! All those household chores we complained about when we were kids ended up benefitting us in the long run! If only we could tell kids now they will appreciate their chores in the future, lol! I enjoy reading these great comments. 🤗
I loved cleaning baseboards and trim when I was a kid and old enough to do it. We lived on a ranch and... the hunting dogs were allowed in the house AND there were 6 kids. We had a live-in "mother's helper" but even she couldn't keep up with the mess we could make. So OK, when it was time, Mother filled a bucket with soapy water, poured in a BIG dose of ammonia, dropped in the sponge and handed me the old towels. .... watching the dirt and grime disappear was...FUN! I felt so powerful.
You are terrific! Such excitement for cleaning, you make me want to get down and dirty with my baseboards!! (almost). Im trying not to use so many chemicals in the house anymore. You offer a bunch of different options, thank you. I tell my daughter that if she wants to clean natural (chemical free) she has to do it more often, bottom line. One cannot allow dirt and grime to build up.
If you need to do some heavy duty dusting that the swiffer duster won't pickup, try using a cheap, unused paint brush also known as a "chip brush" from the dollar store. It's great to get into the nooks and crannies of vents, window sills and trim corners.
Cleaned all the base boards with Krud Kutter and it was game changer during a deep clean. I used in on the shower walls and everything else. This tip was amazing.
Thank you. My grandmother passed away this year and I inherited her home. She was a VERY heavy smoker and the scent of stale cigarettes is everywhere and it's driving me INSANE. I am so grateful that you mentioned this product to help me get that smell out of here and I can't wait to try it!!!
I use what is now called scrubing bubbles, used to be Dow. Home brand available at dollar tree, just as good. I used to wash smoke walls, pulls smoke out. I we t over a second time as sort of of rinse. It kind of pulls stuff out. Helps stop mold, mildew, use in tube daily, no need to rinse, wipe with damp towel. Helps stop mildew. .
One cleaner to another, always dust High area 1st then low. Start at the cieling and work your way down. The Swiffer can come with a extention wand up to 7 feet, No need to bend over. We also use a rolling tile dolly ( when we need to use the magic eraser) saving our back. Also if the base boards are flat without many grooves or to grimy we use a damp flat mop that we can also wash the wall's with at the same time.
I cover my broom with a cleaning cloth that is fixed to the broom and spray the cloth with cleaner to damp mop/dust my base boards..then throw cloth into the cleaning rag wash load...(I have lots of rags and reuse over and over- very old school and environmentally sound)
A great idea for people with mobility /disability issues that wouldn't be able to bend but need the extra power of cleaning solutions :) Thanks for sharing x
A swiffer like mop is excellent for baseboards! The stick is just as long as a broom and it bends up against the baseboards. You can dry dust or wet clean with it. I found a really good one at a Dollar tree store with the washable pads. The stick, swivel head and a few pads were only $5!
Hi Angela! You’re awesome and I’ve learned a lot from you which helps me in my business, so, thank you! My mom always said, if the baseboards are dirty the whole house looks dirty! You’re absolutely right about frequency! Cleaning is a daily endeavor but made easier by keeping it clean which it’s always easier to maintain something rather than spend hours scrubbing etc. Baseboards can get filthy unless cleaned at least biweekly.
Here’s a tip: I buy a duster with an extendable hand and just walk around the corners of my house every week or so to keep them clean. You don’t have to bend so it’s easy and takes two seconds :)
I think dryer sheets are a ridiculous product - they usually have strong (toxic) perfume smell. We Americans use clothes dryers too much! Hang your clothes outside! You will save enormously on power, and your clothes won’t be as beaten up, need as much ironing, and will be cleaner from freaky air.
Baseboards NEED cleaning. They collect an amazing, a SHOCKING amount of detritus which contains bacteria and mold, "skin dust," and other stuff you can't even see. A healthy house, decently clean can't have cruddy, dirty baseboards running through the house, in every room. Once they are scrubbed clean, then regular dusting is great. Would you ignore the floors too? Window sills? Counters? Why ignore any surface?

Many of us tend to ignore the baseboards and before we notice the dirt piles up on them. Thanks for taking the time to write this comment, I appreciate it! 🤗
Thank you for your kind words! Enthusiasm for cleaning can come and go, and it's okay if it's not something you enjoy all the time. I'm glad to hear that you still find the tips and recommendations helpful, and I'm here to support you in any way I can.
I use only warm water on terry cloth to wipe base boards as soap will attract more dust more quickly. Warning magic eariser will leave dull marks where paint is removed
Perfect, and thank you! I learned that I have been cleaning my baseboards correctly! I sent this to my daughter who says I am a little OCD about cleaning my house! I use a tooth brush in the corners of the baseboards that is hard to get the other stuff in to clean! Also, I buy the magic eraser things in large volumes, they work for so many things!
Love this video. Common sense which a lot doesn’t have that call themselves “House cleaners”. The easy tips is/was very much appreciated!! Made cleaning so much easier & much more enjoyable! 💕💕💕👍👍👍
Oh wow, that is so nice of you to say. Thank you for your kind words of encouragement and support and for spending a few minutes of your day here with me. I appreciate you. :-)
The long brush is great if you're starting with a dusty room, not one with areas that need a scrubbing first. My 2 dogs lay up against the wall in the front hallway near the stairs and the oil from their hair and any dirt they've brought in sticks to those areas. I'm 70 and have a bad back and cannot bend over, so I need it cleaned before I can do any upkeep. I can't afford a cleaning service.
Same problem here . And I am 80 . But you know what ,for an older person it's such a small price to pay for having two loyal , loving companions . My little dog passed away 2 months ago, so the marks are a sad reminder. But I'm going to rescue another , in honor of him . Found a tool for baseboards on Amazon and although I don't really like buying from Amazon, it 's worth trying.
@@mamaj8332 You can also get a long bamboo pole at the garden center and use bungee cord to strap that Swiffer to it AND reach the 12' ceilings where the dangling cobwebs hang out!
Thank you for the advice I appreciate it, I use to enjoy cleaning my house, but now I have arthritis it's not easy. I will try that wand. I got new baseboards in both my bathrooms so right now they look good.
Glad to see this. I have 3 fractured discs in my back & i’m 70! Will have to try this. Haven’t cleaned mine in a year! Plus I have bad knees on top of it.
What sarcasm? Angela explains things clearly, is very well organized, and takes pride in her work, without being preachy, annoying or just plain nutty. She's truly professional and a genuine authority on this subject. You will definitely get your cleaning deposit back on any rental if you follow her advice before you leave a place. Thank Angela for reminding us that being thorough and conscientious only makes things better!
Where I live we have the bug man spray every month (scorpions!) the spray leaves a residue that collects dust on the baseboards. Baseboards are the worst thing to clean, thank you for this video.
I was thinking of having baseboard when building my home. Baseboard is not something house usually have in my country. My mom going to think I'm crazy for adding baseboard, all those extra cleaning time.
Rosha, Maintenance cleaning of your baseboards will be easy as long as you don’t let the dust buildup. Keep me posted on what your mom thinks of the baseboards. 👍
Jimmy Hernandez As a housekeeper, be aware that we do charge extra for certain tasks. Baseboards would be something most charge extra for, unless there’s some sort of “package” deal.
What about a small canister on the mop stick with a little door on it and you can just open the door and a bunch of little green men with washcloths start scrubbing away?👍 Seems doable, right?!
I’ve tried the orange microfiber duster. Good for dusting. Not the scuff marks. The eraser sponge works great for scuff marks. Dunked into ammonia and dawn soap. Save the money for general dusting. Use a vac with extension.
In your opinion, which tool attracts/removes (and holds) the most dust - the Swiffer or the microfiber fingers? If they are about the same, then is the main difference (beside the size and reach of the tool) that one is disposable and the microfiber is washable? Thanks for this video as I'm very interested in keeping my 3 yr old baseboards looking good.
Thanks for your quick reply. I thought maybe one or the other created more static to attract & hold more dust, but it sounds like they are about the same in that regard. As long as neither just pushes the dust around or onto another surface. :)
I use Dollar Tree cleaners by awesome!! They work great ! I also use a cheap sponge mop to run along the baseboards....so I don't have to bend down !!!
Murphy’s Oil Soap and water works wonders and is safe for all wood! Just use a higher concentration if needed to get the grime off and wipe down after with a clean wet rag to remove any soap residue.
I don’t live in my house anymore, but rent it to my best friend (former housemate and his son). My friend is so busy (between work and school), baseboards and bathrooms rarely get cleaned. So, rather than me going there to clean three small but disgusting bathrooms and baseboards, because I can’t get down to clean anything and hope to get back up again, I hired a housekeeping company (mom and pop) to deep clean the bathrooms. $300, but worth it to me, especially once I saw the results. I’ll probably set up a twice monthly general clean of them. Your video (and the clean baseboards in the bathrooms) inspires me to tackle the baseboards in the house. We already have Krud Kutter in the house, so that’s good.
@@AskAngelaBrown sitting on a step stool, I cleaned one small section in the kitchen. Holy moly! Of course I took before & after pics. No waiting, no scrubbing, no weird smell. Thank you!!
Hi Angela! Love that microfiber orange bending duster. What is it? Where can you buy it? I'm guessing the only way to clean that is the washing machine?
Totally agree with you on baseboards, however the builder allowed the baseboards to be painted BEFORE laying carpet so I have the worst baseboards.. they need to be removed/replaced
You take something like a long handled swifer and clean your baseboards. You take a sponge mop and use to stand up and scrub your bathtub. A little cleanser and a wet mop and your tub is clean and your back and knees don't hurt. I have no baseboards in my current flat, and I have a lower entry door and an upper entry door. My house house stays pretty darn clean.

Many of us tend to ignore the baseboards and before we notice the dirt piles up on them. Thanks for taking the time to write this comment, I appreciate it! 🤗
Thank you for this video. My most hated chore is baseboard cleaning. Great tips so I don’t have to spend hours cleaning! Subscribing now!
Woot Woot! Thanks for the sub and may all your cleaning be fun. :-)
Thank you!! For the first time in my life I know how to clean house!! WOW
You are so welcome! I'm happy to help. Thank you for watching. 😊
I wish I had your enthusiasm for cleaning. I do appreciate your tips and recommendations. Thank you!
Thanks so much for sharing this tip! 👍
That is awesome! Thanks for watching and for sharing the video!
I use a wet mop with some kind of cleanser. No bending, gets it really clean. Or vacuum.
Thank you for sharing your cleaning tip!
@@AskAngelaBrown You’re welcome. And thank you for yours.
Diane, Thanks so much for sharing! 👍
She has such an amazing attitude
Aww, thank you so much! I appreciate this! 😊
Thank you very much for these easy-to-follow tips that help keep your house dust-free in just a few minutes.
Sure, thanks for helping me leave the world a cleaner place. 🤗
Use the swiffer duster extension pole and you won’t have to bend over to do the baseboards.
@Karen Banks yes! Lol
And they wont be clean either.
My go to duster
@@mamaj8332 You can also get a long bamboo pole at the garden center and use bungee cord to strap that Swiffer to it AND reach the 12' ceilings where the dangling cobwebs hang out!
@@rneedham667 not true. I’d you clean often, dirt doesn’t settle. I swear by the swiffer and my baseboards are spotless.
So true Angela,so true. From one professional house cleaner to another.
Thanks and congratulations on your business. :-)
Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear this. I do hope you feel better soon.
omg , the sarcasm combined with the seriousness of the subject makes you so watchable .
ROFL. Thanks, I think. ;-)
So true this should be done every time someone cleans - it's so noticeable if left undone.
I agree!! Thanks for your feedback!!😎😎😎
Brilliant enthusiasm and perfect explanation! Thank You :)
Thanks. I'll be cleaning quite a bit through February.
Good luck and let me know how it turns out. 👍
I cleaned them after four years. The baseboards look great. I put filters on the furnace vents. There’s a tip for ya.
Corena, you got me rolling
Filters will help : ) Thanks so much for watching my video!
Just a little boost for my day, listening to you! 😍
You are so kind, thank you! 😊
Amazing stuff! Thanks a ton. Love your depth of knowledge and easy to understand style👏🏼
My pleasure! Glad you like them. Thanks for watching!
God, I love this channel.
Thank you! 😊 And thanks for watching.
Where I live we have the bug man spray every month (scorpions!) the spray leaves a residue that collects dust on the baseboards. Baseboards are the worst thing to clean, thank you for this video.
Agreed...baseboards are not fun to clean! Thanks for watching!
Outstanding attention to detail!
Thank you very much, I appreciate it!
I know how to have a really clean house and baseboards. It's called hiring a housekeeper.
Jimmy Hernandez As a housekeeper, be aware that we do charge extra for certain tasks. Baseboards would be something most charge extra for, unless there’s some sort of “package” deal.
@@jim_rivera777 Not always lazy, some are just not that knowledgeable on how to clean and need pointers.
Great video I use the swifter duster in the baseboards. That was a good idea using krud cutter for grease or smoke in a customers house
Glad the video was helpful, thanks for watching!
Skirting boards in the U.K.
I like the sound of skirting boards .
Australia too
South Africa too!
Have fun cleaning your skirting boards! 😊
I wrap a rag around a sponge moistened with dawn dish soap and hot water works wonders on baseboards!
Great tip! Thanks for sharing and thanks for watching the video!
This is a fantastic motivator for hiring a housekeeper😁
Thank you for your feedback and thanks for watching the video.🙂
Very helpful! I have a HUGE house and a cleaning lady but I like to keep up between her visits. Thank you.
+Mary Van Deusen You are a dream client. Anytime a homeowner wants to clean between a house cleaners visits is awesome. Hats off and high five. 🎉👏🙌
Please, someone invent some sort of brush or wiper to attach to the vacuum cleaner that would clean the baseboards at the same time you are vacuuming.
I use the brush attachment
Hoover has it
@YOU ARE NOT A VICTIM YOU ARE THE MONSTER y'all crack me up
Dyson has an attachment. Best thing about it is the extension. You can easily hit your 10ft ceiling if you are a 5'5 lady
What about a small canister on the mop stick with a little door on it and you can just open the door and a bunch of little green men with washcloths start scrubbing away?👍 Seems doable, right?!
Ok the first baseboard was not dirty come to my house I will give you a challenge
You made me laugh, she can come to my house after 😅
😂
um...if there's dirt/pollen, I think she'll find it.
My baseboards are very clean right now, but to be fair I just moved into this place about a week ago so I haven't had time to dirty them up.
Ahaha u so funny
I’ve tried the orange microfiber duster. Good for dusting. Not the scuff marks.
The eraser sponge works great for scuff marks. Dunked into ammonia and dawn soap.
Save the money for general dusting. Use a vac with extension.
Great tip! Thanks for sharing. :-)
UGH BASEBOARDS! THE BANE OF MY EXISTENCE! So thanks a bunch, Angela. :-)
Lol...you're welcome! And thank you for watching the video. 🙂
I find Swiffer traps more but they are technically disposable.
This was great! Thank you so much!
A broom is also good, especially one that has angled nylon bristles.
Yes, this also works well and is a great tip for people with bad backs as it will keep them from bending over. Thanks for sharing. :-)
I use Dollar Tree cleaners by awesome!! They work great ! I also use a cheap sponge mop to run along the baseboards....so I don't have to bend down !!!
Thanks so much for sharing these tips! 👍
oh! I want to know how to clean baseboard heaters! let me know if you have a link or tips.
When I worked in Pennsylvania client's had baseboard heaters and they get very dusty! I used the vacuum attachment with the brush head.
Vacuum or Swiffer duster. 👍
These videos, coupled with FlyLady and her system, motivate me to clean my house!
Thank you! You got this!
I let it go way too long. Thank you for a very helpful, useful video. You’ve motivated me to tackle this!
I appreciate the kind words. I'm so glad I could motivate you. Sending love and support 💛
Yea those baseboards ... dust, little grease spots, and the start of spider webs. Gotta be done!
What if you have wood varnished baseboards and woodwork that has 64 years of dirt and sebum on it, without stripping the varnish?
Murphy’s Oil Soap and water works wonders and is safe for all wood! Just use a higher concentration if needed to get the grime off and wipe down after with a clean wet rag to remove any soap residue.
Have you tried Murphy Oil Soap? If not, do a test in an inconspicuous spot before hand.
Thank you for your expertice for cleaning tips.
You're welcome! And thank you for watching the video. 🙂
Keep me posted on how the baseboards turn out when you decide to tackle them. 👍
@@AskAngelaBrown sitting on a step stool, I cleaned one small section in the kitchen. Holy moly! Of course I took before & after pics. No waiting, no scrubbing, no weird smell. Thank you!!
Excellent tip to clean the boards every time we vacuum👍 THankYou
Glad you think so, thanks for watching!
Now my baseboards are actually pretty dirty, I've been meaning to do them. I think I'll get on that today!
Thank You!

You're welcome! And thank you for watching the video. 🙂
Hi Angela! Love that microfiber orange bending duster. What is it? Where can you buy it? I'm guessing the only way to clean that is the washing machine?
@@AskAngelaBrown Thank you!!!!
Swiffer also makes a long handle and makes it easy for those of us with a bad back
Yes, you are right! Thanks for sharing.
Amazing how I announced that I cleaned my baseboards to a friend and then this video pops up. Phone must be listening in again.
LOL. Creepy. :-)
Hi Angela🙋🏻♀️

your FULL of knowledge ✔
You are so kind. Thanks. You just made my day. :-)
@@AskAngelaBrown your welcome

You're welcome ❣❣❣
Totally agree with you on baseboards, however the builder allowed the baseboards to be painted BEFORE laying carpet so I have the worst baseboards.. they need to be removed/replaced
Oh no...that's terrible! Thanks for sharing!
I love this. You've got some great solutions there for some pretty common problems. Thanks for sharing. :-)
I’ve always liked your videos, you voice is so soothing, makes me want to jump right in, but I’m one of those
With the arthritis in my whole body my back and knees really kill me. I remember when I was a lot younger,
And I use to get on my hands and knees , scrub the floors the looked so pretty, you have a wonderful. Day
Thanks for sharing with us, so nice to see you.👍👍👍♥️♥️💕😊
Jan, it’s so nice to hear from you and I hope you have a wonderful day too. 😊
My baseboards are cruddy as heck! And you can’t just dust it!! I literally have to scrub with soapy water
Yes, this is correct, when you have a deep clean you may have to hand wash them, and then to maintain them a duster will work.
Use Mr. Clean. Best grease cutter cleaner ever!!
Maybe time to paint-high gloss or semi gloss. Never use eggshell or flat paint on woodworker.
Thank you, I never knew what that brush for my vaccumm was for!
You can use the vacuum brush for so many things. Let me know any new uses you find beyond cleaning the baseboards. I'd love to hear your discoveries. :-)
@@AskAngelaBrown yes I will! The only other thing I've used it for is window sills. But the baseboards will save my back, thank you! New subscriber by the way, just found your channel last night!

Thanks. I especially think I will use the scrubber to get black marks off the baseboard. I, also, read another site that recommends vinegar and water...so I am looking forward to doing these trying jobs easier and faster.
