I'm trying to find out where I can find your makers mop at I've went to your site but all I find is the things that go on it I need to find them up can you please help me I appreciate it and thank you and God bless
Hi Melissa, 'Experts' say that using glycerin after dusting impedes dust laying over for longer than using other dusting technics. Allegedly, this is what museum cleaning staff is using here 'almost' Europe zone of the World)) I was wondering if that is appropriate?! Please give us a demo-video, whenever possible) All the best! Tanya
OMG.... THE ""PET PADS"" FOR THE SWIFFER ARE AMAZING👍👍 I HAVE A PET... CAN YOU IMAGINE WHAT THEY WILL DO FOR THOSE WITHOUT PETS THEY ARE WAY BETTER THEN A BROOM AND DUST PAN I COULDN'T BELIEVE HOW MUCH PET HAIR IT PICKED UP I WAS SHOCKED AND THAT WAS AFTER I SWEPT 👏👏👏👏👍
@CleanMySpace- ⚠️Hi Melissa, I a question: If my hardwood flooring is *UNFINISHED* & is too soiled for a Swiffer only⚠️, can I use the diy cleaner with a microfiber mop/flathead mop? Thanks!
My mom taught me to clean. Every Saturday mom and I cleaned house. She taught me that if you make things shine, the sinks, faucets, stove, microwave etc your house will look cleaner. This has always stuck with me. I love to shine up any shiny surface after cleaning for that final touch. I miss her and often wish she were here to help me clean.
Sorry for the loss of your mom. If you want an extra little sparkle that lasts a little longer, put a little bit of furniture polish on a rag and buff your faucets and sinks, etc. Extra shiny and it is easy to rub off water spots in between cleanings. :)
I bet the memories you have of cleaning with her on those Saturdays, come to mind every time you're cleaning. Thinking of her while you clean probably even make cleaning a positive experience rather than I dreaded one! I'm so sorry for your loss.
@@maryellenerikson1397 thank you. That's a great idea! Mom loved her windex, but the fact that, with hard water, it will be easier to keep it clean.God bless you 🙏
I was raised by a hoarder... So you and other UA-camrs actually taught me how to clean. I'm 28, and I'm still learning how to be more efficient. To give you some perspective... My mom hated the smell of bleach or cleaning products, only used water, and had no idea what a duster was when she saw me using it. 😐
Me too! My mother was a hoarder who hated to clean, so I learned by trial and error as a child (pro tip: never mix bleach and ammonia). Later, I learned by reading books on the subject, but now I'm watching UA-cam to learn more. I don't love to clean the house but I do love having a clean house! 🪄
Mine too now I declutter my house every January. My sister died , now her husband is dying so strangers came into their house because we couldn’t get off to go there. Hoarders think it’s a secret that will never change but it will one day - it does for everyone
My family were hoarders and now that I have my own apartment I can’t handle any mess. I deep clean every week because I know what can happen when you let things go
I learned at a very young age. My mother taught me. We had to do certain things each week and certain things once a month. Like taking the cushions off the couch and vacuuming under them and around all the edges. Also baseboards once a month. I am still doing the cleaning in a very ritual way and I am almost 80 years old. I love a clean house. I am a retired interior designer and have lived in a designed house where everything has its place. I hate clutter. I frequently go through things and if I’m not using them I give them away or donate them. This way I keep the clutter from accumulating. So glad I learned young. It has helped me stay consistent over the years. Love all the natural cleaning formulas. Saves so much money.
I need to do this. Just stuck on where to start with myself and two boys (6, 14) I was thinking start off with one chore a day and have it the same each week. Example; take trash out of room every Thursday (because there’s no food trash so I think once a week will be ok) idk I have a hoard issue and I’m trying so hard. But thanks for the comment very inspirational.
My dear Mom was a housekeeper for a wealthy family during her late teens and early twenties. She taught me to clean at age 12. She made cleaning a pleasant and satisfying experience that is just a habitual and necessary part of life and that doing a thorough cleaning has a good feeling of success and accomplishment too. She set the best example for this as well as being an outstanding homemaker and housekeeper! I love you and miss you dearly Mom! You were a great teacher for me and in turn I taught your granddaughters as well!
Your mom passed away is it??? So sorry for that and remember your mom lives on in you and your daughters....she must be proud of you and her granddaughters
Bless u for teaching your children the way your mother taught u.. u and ur mom will live on forever because u are teaching them, and they will teach their children... I'm so sorry for the loss of your mother, but I know u look at your children and think of yourself with your mom... Baruch Hashem Shalom
I never learned how to clean properly and it's still a learning experience. It's the reason I watch you and other cleaning motivation videos on UA-cam. Thanks for all the cleaning knowledge!
My high school home economics teacher taught me how to cook, sew, clean, organize, and decorate. She was a true gem, I'm sure without her my home wouldn't be the clean, organized, neat and tidy home that it is.
Whats sad is home economics is not offered in school anymore. I had home economics in grades 7, 8 and 9. My daughter graduated high school this year and not one class on home ec.
Same here. I didnt have a good home life and those classes were a game changer. I learned everything from cooking, sewing, to budgeting. I even went to live with my home ec teacher in 11th grade. This day and age needs home ec more than ever.
I wasn't as lucky with my home ec teacher. She failed me because I couldnt put together a meal plan for a week.. as well as all the other stuff you mentioned. my mother worked 2 full time jobs and there was very little cooking or cleaning in our house as i was growing up. i thought bologna or pb&j sandwiches was normal for dinner. I think she thought I was messing with her.
❤New subscriber, and I am obsessed ( hate that word) 😳with your vlog. You are a great motivator, and I appreciate your methodical and no nonsense approach to cleaning. I’m 74 yrs. old, and leaned to clean in the mountains of Western NC (Asheville). I actually enjoy cleaning. My mom taught me about changing your sheets once a week, airing out your pillows on sunny days, and having a clean and swept front porch. She said the porch is the “smile” on your house, so keep it presentable. Hairbrushes and combs were washed once month with a vinegar solution, and put outside to dry in the sun. We didn’t have a washer or dryer for many years. As a child I would take a paper bag full of dirty clothes and walk to the laundromat to wash and dry them. It was quite a hike. While the clothes were washing I would take 10 cents my mom gave me and walk across the street for a sun drop soda at the small neighborhood store. We were poor, so if it was sunny, I had to walk back home, straight up hills with wet clothes, to hang on the line. If it was wet and cold, I could spend 20 cents to dry them. I love caring the clothes home, in the bag, after drying them. Lighter, smelled better, and warm. I owned two pair of socks. At 7 yrs . old I would wash the socks I had worn that day, and drape them on the radiator to dry. You could hear them sizzle! Next morning they were stiff as a board, but dry. I had my clean socks:) I learned from my mother that even if you were poor, you could be clean. Now, at 74, I’m retired and thank goodness, no longer poor. I still love to clean, and have a home with a husband and 3 rescue dogs. It’s just enough to keep me busy and happy. If you ever do a vlog( maybe you have already) on keeping your home clean with pets, I would love to share my hacks after being a foster mom for 20 yrs. Sorry I have been so long winded. Please keep your vlogs coming!
As a 24 year old who was never given chores growing up, I will 1000% be making my future children do chores. It’s really negatively impacted me as an adult. Not that I don’t necessarily know how to clean, but I dread it and I put it off all the time and my apartment is always a disaster. Really trying to learn some new habits here 😂 love your tips!
My mother was/is a hoarder and never really cleaned anything due to a combination of depression and exhaustion from working multiple jobs. It wasn't until I got to college that I tangibly experienced deep cleaning because we had a white glove check at the end of each semester, I had one roommate who owns a cleaning business, and a roommate another year who has OCD. That combination followed by me discovering various UA-cam channels like this one have worked wonders for teaching me what it actually means to clean and tidy and has changed my life drastically. ✨
My mom did the most cleaning but my dad taught me how to be efficient about it. Many of the things you suggest he taught me at a very young age. Funny to hear it is used by professionals. Btw as an ADD person, watching your channel really helps put my mind at ease. I love how you don’t stall but not go too fast either. Perfect combination of decisive and gentle. 🙏🏻 from Europe
Honestly speaking, nobody taught me to clean. I've had to figure it out throughout adulthood. All of this advice is so great. It's so basic but so crucial. Thank you for your tips!
My mum had OCD and insisted on doing everything herself. When I moved out and tried to learn from her but she said didn't know (suspect she was defensive of admitting how much of her life cleaning actually took up). My mother in law was great when I asked her 'rule of thumb once a week, you'll soon find out what needs cleaning less and what needs cleaning more'. Everything else I've learned from UA-cam.
That is great. My birther mother has OCD. I think I got it from her, yet, she is a neat freak and I am very messy. I tell my children she worked me and I am still te rrible tired from my childhood chores. I don't give my children the obligation to clean our home, just to clean after themselves. If they use the toilet swishing it after keeps it clean for the person using it after. I have taught them how to clean, yet I am the one with the obligation. They help during the summer and in their breaks from school. Their school is their top obligation and priority. My youngest is 12 and help with the wash, that is stain treating her clothes. She will probably be doing her own clothes when she turns 14. That is when my other children started to help more. They were interested in learning and adulting. They learned just in time for college.
I ve learned from watching other people over the years, but mostly my mom. Every day had its own work, similar to Mrs Ingalls. Housekeeping and caring for children is a job in itself. So underrated in today's world.
You taught me 😂! I had always lived in a messy house. But when I learned decluttering, having clean orderly surfaces, cleaning from top to bottom etc. everything became fast and easy. Thanks soooo much!
I haphazardly tried to learn to clean when I had kids. I was a mess. I started with The Flylady here in the United States. She helped me get into routine. Then I found this channel. Still not liking cleaning but have learned that just to do and get it done. I find working in rooms rather than the entire house helps me.
My Mom was an expert cleaner! She worked full time, had 5 kids in 6 years, and we lived for many years in a 5 room apartment. It was always spotless! From a very young age, we were taught to help with cleaning. We helped with dishes (no dishwashers then) , we had to clean our rooms weekly, wash the tub after our baths, sweep and dust mop floors, pick up after ourselves, fold laundry ….. Well, you name it! We learned we all had to pitch in to make our tiny home comfortable and we did it! This was in the 50s, a very different world!
Nobody taught me to clean. My mother and her mother had very dirty and squallorous homes; mice, roaches, even maggots in the kitchen and bathrooms. They were good and kind people with NO homemaking skill. They were popular ladies who had active social lives and traveled with friends. Fast forward to my 50th year, cancer and then COVID ruined my ability to work outside my home so I’m brain-rehabbing by learning homemaking; reading, following instructions. Your videos help me a lot. I have discovered my peace of mind by rehabbing my house into a pleasant home bc now I can be in it. I used to work much more than FT just to afford this home for my family of five. But now that I’ve fatigue out of FT employment I learn from the internet and do a pretty good job of homemaking!
Anything I learned about cleaning was learned from a lady that my mother hired to babysit myself and my two siblings while my mother was at work. Just watching what she did over and over again day after day taught me some valuable lessons about how to clean.
I wish I could squeegee my shower. But I have trouble bending and I have a very narrow shower stall. I physically can't do it. My shower is never as clean as I'd like.
My mom had arthritis, so I had to do a lot of things around the house growing up. She was ALSO Canadian, so she *NEVER* asked DIRECTLY for me to vacuum, or polish the brass. Instead, she'd say, *"Lovey, would you like to set the table, now?".* My brother & I _knew_ that a question wasn't a question at all, but we ALWAYS answered back, "Sure, Mom, we'd *LOVE* to!". It was kinda funny, too, that her arthritis never kept her from gardening or going on hikes when we went camping, LOL. We didn't complain. Who knows if she was in pain or not. She grew the most BEAUTIFUL roses & great herbs and veggies, and her & our Dad took us to the most amazing camping spots. When my brother was 16 & I was 15, they started letting us borrow the car to go off into the High Sierras or the Mojave Desert on our own to camp. That was definitely worth polishing brass for! Thanks SO much for all for all your tips~ I'm an organizing freak, myself. It takes a few extra minutes, but saves HOURS later. Many Blessings to You ALL!
My mum taught me to clean. We were a family of 7 so you can imagine how hard it was to keep up with it all. My mum made a roster for the week. Each child had a chore daily, e.g. make bed, wash or dry dishes after dinner and put dirty towels and clothes in the laundry. Small chores which made a big difference to running a home. Then on a Saturday we did the big chores, on the roster, such as Kitchen, Bathroom,Windows, Vacuuming etc. My mum always inspected our work and if it wasn't done to her standard, which, was very high, then we had to do it again. I can't leave home without checking that my rooms are tidy and uncluttered My mum is gone now and I thank her every day for the lessons in how to keep up with the chores. Easy when you know how .
I’m Portuguese, and as they say, we don’t know what to do with ourselves if we’re not cleaning something. My mom taught me how to actually clean things and when I was bored as a kid, she’s out the pledge and a dusting cloth in my hand. My babysitter kept a very tidy and clean house (not sure why she was a babysitter), so I would want to mimic that at home and once asked for dish gloves for my birthday. 🤷🏻♀️ And my dad. My dad taught me, “a clean person is not someone who knows how to clean well, but who always keeps things clean.”
The decluttering is an amazing idea. It is really does move from 1 area of the home to the next. I started with a closet than under the sinks. Than all my drawers, than my filing cabinet and not my house is so organized and easy to keep clean and it saves so much time cleaning. I used to feel like cleaning was a such chore now it is just up keep.
I’ve been learning to clean since I was little. My mom has always been very neat and tidy, and she tried to teach my siblings and I to be the same (especially because my dad is quite the opposite haha). I hated cleaning (and wasn’t great at it) when I was young, because I had too much stuff and it was really annoying to have to pickup and clean everything on a regular basis, but it was really helpful when I went to college and had to start taking care of myself. Since then, I’ve definitely learned a lot from UA-cam, and decluttering my stuff has helped me IMMENSELY in keeping a cleaner space. My mom definitely gave me a good foundation to build from! I guess I’ll have to apologize for giving her such a hard time before haha
I’m a Latter-Day-Saint/Mormon & the first person who motivated me was a lady called Daryl Hoole. She is also a Latter-Day-Saint. She is brilliant with cleaning & organising ideas. Another one is Denise Schofield. Her books are fantastic & I follow a lot of her tips. As well as you on UA-cam, I also follow Emily Norris, Cas from Clutterbug, Do It on a Dime & The Minimal Mom.
My Mom taught me by telling me to "get it clean ", although she didn't teach me the most efficient way to get it done! I am a perfectionist who actually enjoys cleaning, kinda like a therapy for me. I have only recently gone to work for someone else cleaning but hopefully in the future I can have a business of my own. Anyway absolutely love your videos & also love your products, well at least the 1's I've tried so far!
Also, I thought it was very cool that my Mum taught both us girls and our brothers to regularly clean our space, and we all washed, hung out, brought in and ironed our own clothes from an early age somewhere around 12 years old. That taught us cooperation and responsibility to do things for ourselves, & to be in charge of ourselves, which was very good.
Started with my mom, and I’ve improved on it. Got my husband involved. He vacuum’s and dust and I do the bathrooms and clean the floors. Unclutter the counters weekly, pantry monthly.
I read the life changing magic of typing up and it really changed my life and then I found you. I’ve learned to live with less but really try to live tidy and clean - it’s not always easy but thank you a million times over.
I never had to clean when I was at home because I was the baby and my mom had me late, so she didn't want to waste time teaching me plus she was a perfectionist. My husband was in the military, so we were overseas, and I was by myself. I found that I too was a perfectionist when it came to my house. My motto is Don't put it down, put it up! Works well!
You did ☺️ my parents taught me the bare minimum. Wash dishes, sweep, mop (the wrong way) & hang washed clothes. When they demanded me to clean a bathroom I freaked out & refused to do it. They also didn't want to teach me anymore 😔 I didn't know there was much more than the bare minimum. I'm thankful i found this channel
My mom was a clean freak so cleaning was sometimes met with much stress for me but I have found a way to be very efficient in my home so, everything you said in this video makes sense. I discovered the squeegee method years ago, it’s a steadfast rule in our house too. Thanks for the tips!
Mum taught me the bare minimum basics, but you and Cass from Clutterbug taught me how to really clean and tidy. And decluttering, whaaaat??? Changed my life! I used to hate cleaning with a passion until I discovered your channels, now, I do have chronic fatigue syndrome, so I still don't love it, but I don't hate it anymore... I actually enjoy it a little bit.
I learnt to clean when I was young from my mum but every house we lived in was cluttered. When I got older, Marie Kondo taught me to declutter and Clean my Space taught me to be better at cleaning. A clean house is good for your mind and your health.
First my Mom, then my first husband, his mother cleaned and vacuumed everyday so I followed her way. I've always had dogs so I continued to clean daily Through the years I picked up techniques. Then I found "Clean my Space" when my sis and I had to clean out my Dad's condo. We learned to be efficient and get more accomplished. I have a clean and organized home most days😄 I continue to learn from watching. Thank you 👏👏
I learned I should be clean from my mom. I think I learned how to appreciate laundry folding from her and the difference making a bed does in the clean appearance of a bedroom. I learned how minimalism can make cleaning simplier with my mother-in-law and husband. I learned from an old acquaintance that if I see something dirty I should try to be proactive in the moment and just tackle it then and get it out the way. Google and UA-cam (including your channel) has taught me a lot of great tips too. :)
📖 Reading, research and studying like in Home Ec. class was the start for me. Experience is the best teacher. I have proberly learned more from the Makers cleaning video's than other resources in the past. Thanks!
Fantastic tips, thank you 🙏 I ran my cleaning business for 12 years during school hours so I could pick up my kids. Between my mother and Enjo I learned to clean and make a room sparkle. Now retired, like a mechanic I have never been goo d with my own. Getting there now with your video help.
My mom cleaned so much she’d scrub the paint off. She didn’t really “teach” but would give you a task and you do it! Your tips on cleaning have made a big difference in how my house feels and looks. Cleaner and more organized without working as hard. My favorite tips are the top to bottom and left to right That alone helps so much! Thank you for sharing your expertise! Now if I could get my husband to watch your videos!😀
The clean kitchen sink is sooo true! your method changed my kitchen a few years ago I also use it in the bathroom! No cleaner does it better, drop of Dawn, baking soda and hot water so simple!!! Chef kiss! 🤌 My mom, dad, grandmothers and of course YOU Melissa!!!!
Who taught me? I’m still learning! Actually, like you, it was my mum and just learning myself over the years. I love your tips. I do recommend you hang your towels outside to dry, then just put them in the dryer when they’re almost dry. That way they will always smell fresh. Clutter is the bane of my life. I’m working on it. Thanks for the video.
I never put anything on the line, in fact I don’t even have one. I use my tumble dryer all through the year & put everything away as soon as it’s finished.
@@julietannOsfan1972 I know it’s not possible in some countries but it does keep clothes fresh. We just had weeks of rain and I had to put them on a clothes horse (airer). I had to put them in the dryer after a while because they were taking ages to dry. Some fabrics shouldn’t go in a dryer though. I have a condenser dryer which is gentle on clothes but even so, some things need to be dried naturally.
Thank you for these wonderful tips! I clean for "snowbirds" and I'm one of those weirdos that actually love cleaning so I appreciate you and your channel. My Mom taught me how to clean. Not by an actual teaching method; just a love for cleaning I think. She grew up in Germany during WWII. If you know anything about the Germans, they are very clean people and that's the way I grew up. She told me stories about the German ladies that swept all the way down the front of their house and half way across the street and the lady across the street would do the same. I guess that's why I like cleaning. The funny things is, now I give her cleaning tips! Lol. Pattie
My mom taught me a good number of the things you talk about but there were a few new ones for me in this video. Always interested in cutting down cleaning time!
Pretty heartwarming seeing all the comments here, everyone taking the initiative to learn how to clean. I was 17 when I first started living on my own, and knew I didn’t want to be that guy eating pop tarts for dinner, so taught myself to cook, and grocery shop and take care of a house. Spending some time learning how to clean properly now, as I love it and do it everyday. It always makes me feel so much better being in a clean house.
I love your methods. Have used them to clean every room in my unit. Now I have time to spare , cos I've cleaned as you advised. Thank you , I am so pleased I found your channel. It's true the more stuff you have the longer cleaning takes.
My mom taught me. She was a lot like you. My son has also brought new ideas into the mix. I think he watches you. He does your sock blind cleaning and does a great job!
I was not taught how to clean. I just winged it a fell prey the commercialism of cleaning products, and I can honestly tell you that I hated to clean. I found that I was having anxiety with using a lot of products as the smell and damage that I did to my skin made me not want to clean, although I still do it I just wanted to take a moment, and thank you from the bottom of my heart to let you know that cleaning is not a struggle for me any longer as I use your methods of DIY products and microfibre cloth. It has been a complete game changer for me. I can relax and clean.❤
My Mom taught me first. Then as I retired a few years ago, I wanted to get better at cleaning. Two UA-cam channels really helped me - yours and another channel that isn’t active any longer. I was able to develop a routine that works for me, and I’m happier with my home. :-)
My mum taught me to clean. She's got OCD. I think I do too. Her house is beautiful & clean. She always told me 1. Make sure your bed is made & clean because you never know when you're gonna be sick/bed ridden. 2. Always wash and rinse the bath/shower right after using it, no scum, yellowing or damp issues. 3. The hoover is your best friend. It's a duster, brush & mini bin all in one.
I learned from my mom but like you I don’t like cleaning. I have been rather lazy at cleaning, so I am relearning better and easier ways of cleaning from this channel. I am just fed up with the mess around me and trying to direct my family into following me. So far we are moving in the right direction.
You will likely notice it takes less time and effort to keep a clean home clean, than it is to get a messy home into order. Good luck with your efforts!
I looooove this style of video. This is why my answer is Mellissa Maker taught me to clean!! Ha ha. This youtube channel is like free college degree in cleaning. :)
My mom inspired me somehow to want to clean and be clean ... she worked hard at it .. before i found you on you tube .. i read at least one of jeff campbells books too!!!! .. emilie barnes was another and ...sandra felton and speed cleaning 101 by laura dellutri just to name a few more ... martha stewart and mrs, myers !!!! they all were truly wonderful helps to me there was one other man that i loved but i cant think of his name !!!! frustrating ... you can find his books at the library in cleaning section .. lol... but you melissa maker hAve done me the most good ... i have followed clean momma and flylady....my blessed mom passed 6 years ago ... she was not able to come to my house much but when she finally got to come she could see difference in my home and she was wowed... once again thanks to you
I liked Jeff Campbell, his system and used his products, made my own cleaning apron, etc! I think I learned and followed Don Aslett the most for actual cleaning. I really like your style and expertise, such great reminders!
Good info, I started a car cleaning business last year and i use this same mindset. The same goes with my home, preventive maintenance is key! Clean as you go to avoid big jobs later.
I learned from a cranky/physical mother where nothing was ever good enough and "issues" we're often staged. So I still struggle with the feeling of now I don't have to if I don't want to!! I did not learn to clean properly bkz each task was barked out and sudden duress. After all these years, it is dishes and hoovering that still make me feel someone may come up behind me (I'm a grown-up girl! Continually telling myself to get over it!) I appreciate your insight and will employ it immediately .. thankU 👍😊👍
The little things piece is very important for people who have limited capacity. My default used to be the big cleaning marathons, but since getting long COVID, attempting them would result in me being bed bound for days. It takes a very long time to change thinking and habits from one extreme to the other, but it is worth it. Having a livable but not immaculate home is finally something I can achieve most of the time without needing to pay a steep physical cost.
Growing up, I thought I was really clean. I was the cleanest person in my family in every way. Then I married my now husband and discovered his mom was the supermom who can super clean an entire house in a few hours... and he inherited her cleaning genes. I would spend all week doing my best to keep the house clean but my squirl brain prevented it from ever really being clean and was always overly cluttered. Not dirty, just messy. I only worked part time so I would leave Saturday mornings to work at the bank drive thru. In 4 hours time he would have the home decluttered and sparkling. After 8 and a half years of marriage, we are now filling the roles we should have filled from the beginning. I work and bring home the check and he is the stay at home dad. Let's face it. He does homemaking better than me so why fight it. Lol.
I learned to clean by trial and error always being unhappy with my space. For most of my life I lived in a messy home, both as a child and an adult. After slowly making improvements by trial and error, I got to a point where I understand what works for me. Then I started asking anyone and everyone how they handle cleaning and organizing task. So I went from being totally on my own learning as I went to seeking advice from everyone. Until I understood what works and doesn't work for me (which took many years), I wasn't able to follow advice from others. After getting over that initial hump, I am able to evaluate if someone's advice will work for me.
Thanks for your vids. I def use the timer method with a good song or maybe even the news in the background. If I can stay distracted between the media and passively cleaning for 5 mins, I will most likely keep going for 10 mins more which is the sweet spot for me making a nice dent or keeping up.
My mom was like your mom. No formal training, but I researched online, which is how I found you. But before you, I found Fly Lady and she taught me some stuff and you taught me more. Thank you Melissa!!
No one really taught me, my mom just told me to vacuum, and at my grandparents house I became the dishwasher, not any automatic dishwashers back in those days. I am glad I learned along the way, it made me more self sufficient. I know so many people that are just living in their mess, not knowing or bothering to clean, that can bring on all kinds of problems, like mice and bugs. I do have to declutter more, I’ve been working on that.
UA-cam taught me. My mom is a wonderful person but not a great cleaner so I learned her skills unfortunately. Right before Covid hit, I had seen some cleaning videos by accident. It gave me some unexpected motivation so I started watching more and eventually created a cleaning checklist. I tend to like checklists and when I’m feeling less energetic, I’ll watch one and get up and do my task.
No joke…. Melissa Maker taught me how to clean! HAHA! I’ve watched since I was 13. I’m sure my mom had influence as well, and my grandmas. Learning special techniques was all you though!
My mum taught me how to clean and i've picked up tips along the way. A year ago we had a new shower in stalled, just after your tip on wiping down before you get out. The whole family do it and cleaning it is so much easier. So thank you for the advice.
I had to learn when my dad was diagnosed with cancer. I was 9 years old. We had a farm so my older brothers did the farm work and I started learning how to do the laundry and dishes.
Thank You for sharing your story. That can be very hard going through as an ADULT. I was 44 & took care of my Dad for three years & it was a Blessing, but SO difficult: Emotionally, physically, mentally, spiritually. I was taking care of my Mom & my two youngest of four kids, one was 15 & one was 9. I couldn't have gotten through it without them. There were so many times where I was overcome with guilt about how much I was relying on them. My son (the 9 year old) would stay with my Dad while I took my Mom to her doctors' appts & we'd get back and they'd be sitting on the couch together looking at his old Army photo albums. My daughter would help her Gramma get "pretty" & go to the grocery store with her, and listen to SAME stories over & over & over again! You were such a BRAVE girl & your Dad was blessed to have you and your brothers! Thank You again for sharing.
What a great tool to give your kids, wish my mother had of passed that on. As long as it doesn’t become obsessive. It’s never too late to pick up some tips.
I learned the old fashioned way, like you, with my parents just telling me to put stuff away with no rhyme or reason really. I actually *learned* how to clean through watching UA-cam videos like yours, Clutterbug, and Minimal Mom.
A lot of what I learned was while being in foster care and and home economics classes in middle school. To this day I have what I call ' dailies ' stuff that is done on a regular bases. Once I take my shower and ready for the day I make the bed, then head downstairs to my half bath to scoop litter boxes and grab the broom so I can sweep the kitchen floor. While in the kitchen I clean the cats food and water dish and replenish with fresh, set the coffee up for the next day and unload the dishwasher.
My grandma taught me to clean. Her house has always been spotless. I learned mostly by watching her because she never made me do anything really. But she let me help her! My favorite thing to clean was the bathtub! I also loved to dust. Looking back I realize that things that I helped her clean were so easy because she kept it up! She cleaned weekly! My mother on the other hand never cleaned except for the kitchen. She taught me how to wash dishes by hand. Though the rest of the house was a mess, she hated dirty dishes. But she did not make it fun and I hated that task! Still do… but now I have a dishwasher so that makes it better. Lol
My OCD mom, and her ways of how she wanted it done. I kept that up till I hit depression 10 years ago, and now I do what I need to survive, but never seem to be completely uncluttered all at once.
I always make a habit of relocating an item from one room to the other, while brushing my teeth. It's productive and allows me to make sure I'm brushing for more than 5 seconds.
My mother taught me the same way your mother did, however my dad did alot of the teaching. My dad was a truck driver and a profectionist really bad. So every weekend my little brother and I had to help clean and wax the truck even the wheels. If we didn't do it right we had to redo this until it was done correctly. In that case you learn pretty quickly to do the job right. Which has carried over in both my brother and I!
My Mom never seem to really teach me how to clean. I try to teach myself! I learn from watching your videos. I found your book in a library in Troy, Michigan. I learn a lot reading your book! I am not big in book reading! I went bought the book at a store Barnes and Noble. I love it! I basically taught myself. I live on a budget, so to organize clean my space seems hard. I live in a small apartment, and I created my own furniture. I have a desk with 6 crates and plywood over the top of them. I can't afford furniture, so I don't have none. A bed and couple chairs, some book shelves; all I have in my apartment. A table from when I was five years old! Tables from Five Below! It hard to declutter when I don't know where to begin.
From Janice my parents show my how and clean thank you for asking me. I been train how to clean. Is fun too clean around the house to have something to do.

Hi Melissa,
'Experts' say that using glycerin after dusting impedes dust laying over for longer than using other dusting technics.
Allegedly, this is what museum cleaning staff is using here 'almost' Europe zone of the World))
I was wondering if that is appropriate?! Please give us a demo-video, whenever possible)
All the best!

OMG....
THE ""PET PADS"" FOR THE SWIFFER
ARE AMAZING👍👍
I HAVE A PET...
CAN YOU IMAGINE WHAT THEY WILL DO FOR THOSE WITHOUT PETS
THEY ARE WAY BETTER THEN A BROOM AND DUST PAN
I COULDN'T BELIEVE HOW MUCH PET HAIR IT PICKED UP
I WAS SHOCKED
AND THAT WAS AFTER I SWEPT 👏👏👏👏👍
@CleanMySpace- ⚠️Hi Melissa, I a question: If my hardwood flooring is *UNFINISHED* & is too soiled for a Swiffer only⚠️, can I use the diy cleaner with a microfiber mop/flathead mop? Thanks!
Preventative maintenance! 💞 Mom used me (oldest child) as her live in cleaning staff 😅 helpful hints from Heloise was my hack source.
I miss my Mom too. Memories we will always have. May they not be RIP , but rather having so much fun. They are still around us.
@@maryellenerikson1397 thank you. That's a great idea! Mom loved her windex, but the fact that, with hard water, it will be easier to keep it clean.God bless you 🙏
@@erin3375 yes the memories make it easier. Thank you and God bless you 🙏
I was raised by a hoarder...
I also HATE bleach introduce your mom to botan40. Or something similar.💛
I too am a hoarder so I find it SUPER difficult to clean! I appreciate this video!
Thank you for your encouraging comments. I appreciate them❣️
Love what you wrote. Very interesting
Exactly, if you don't use it you don't need it!
"A necessary part of life," except for those who can afford others to do it for them (or those who have a wife...)
Bless u for teaching your children the way your mother taught u.. u and ur mom will live on forever because u are teaching them, and they will teach their children... I'm so sorry for the loss of your mother, but I know u look at your children and think of yourself with your mom... Baruch Hashem Shalom
She is a hero u must be proud of her MashaAllāh
I’m 74 yrs. old,
and leaned to clean in the mountains of Western NC (Asheville). I love
caring the clothes home, in the bag, after drying them.
Thank you for sharing your story! I love to hear experiences like this! Hey, start your own. I'll subscribe 😉
My Mom was willing to live with a lot of clutter. I never really learned how to clean except by experimenting. Your show has been a game changer.
I tell my children she worked me and I am still te
rrible tired from my childhood chores.
You had a great Mom! All those lessons spill over into working life etc.
@@hikerhobby1204 yes, she was one of the best!
5 kids in 6 years???
My Mom taught me the basics of cleaning, but honestly I learned so much from UA-cam- specifically your channel- and channels like this one.
Squeegeeing my shower has _absolutely_ changed my life. My shower is always clean, and it looks great!
I wish I could squeegee my shower. But I have trouble bending and I have a very narrow shower stall. I physically can't do it. My shower is never as clean as I'd like.
After squeegeeing showers in 4 homes, when we built our mtn home we went with a door less shower... best thing ever. No more squeegeeing
I can't leave home without checking that my rooms are tidy and uncluttered
My mum is gone now and I thank her every day for the lessons in how to keep up with the chores. Easy when you know how
.
They also didn't want to teach me anymore 😔
I didn't know there was much more than the bare minimum.

Effect we I😊ih😅😮
My mom taught me, but I never feel like I know it all. There is always something we can learn. Thank you for sharing. I learned something new today:)
I learnt to clean when I was young from my mum but every house we lived in was cluttered. When I got older, Marie Kondo taught me to declutter and Clean my Space taught me to be better at cleaning. A clean house is good for your mind and your health.
You taught me! And I can't thank you enough.
First my Mom, then my first husband, his mother cleaned and vacuumed everyday so I followed her way.
I've always had dogs so I continued to clean daily
Through the years I picked up techniques. Then I found "Clean my Space" when my sis and I had to clean out my Dad's condo.
We learned to be efficient and get more accomplished.
I have a clean and organized home most days😄
I continue to learn from watching.
Chef kiss! 🤌
My mom, dad, grandmothers and of course YOU Melissa!!!!
I am from India
Though our climate, and cleaning equipment is way different, still your video has been a lot of help
Your cleaning cloths are so satisfying to use. They motivate me to clean!!
I love hanging my laundry on the line
@@julietannOsfan1972 I know it’s not possible in some countries but it does keep clothes fresh. We just had weeks of rain and I had to put them on a clothes horse (airer). I had to put them in the dryer after a while because they were taking ages to dry. Some fabrics shouldn’t go in a dryer though. I have a condenser dryer which is gentle on clothes but even so, some things need to be dried naturally.
@@sugarplumk2381 I don’t buy clothes etc unless they can be tumble dried.
Girl, you're my role model. Thank you!
You taught me, and continue to teach me. I am so grateful for your videos, and your no nonesense, you can do this approach.
Fly lady taught me. Marla Cilley. I’m glad to see you are teaching the next generation these amazing tips in an easy and approachable way!
My grandmother taught me the basics. You Tube has helped me perfect
She always told me
Hi I love the way you talk and explain everything ... It looks so easy and tempting to start cleaning...Really it is too much motivating...
A lot of my cleaning techniques I learned from you. I love you Melissa
That black and white checked dress looks adorable on you!
My mum taught me and I also learnt stuff on my own. I used to help her clean a villa throughout the school summer holidays when I was young.
I learned how to clean well and correctly in Home Economics class, 8th grade!
She was an amazing teacher!!!
Melissa Maker is my life saver u taught me so much w/ the help of ur videos i cant wait to get ahold of your book thx melissa ❤❤❤
You, your book, your videos. Thank you!
YOU taught me how to clean! Thanks Melissa we love you
Absolutely loved this video!!! Coming from a lifelong extremely messy person who wishes to change!
No joke…. Melissa Maker taught me how to clean! HAHA! I’ve watched since I was 13. I’m sure my mom had influence as well, and my grandmas. Learning special techniques was all you though!
Thank you! I love to hear this, I'm so glad my videos have been helpful for you! Thank you for all your support!
YOU! I’ve learned all my cleaning techniques from you!
I clean Airbnbs and our go to stain remover is Folex. It works right in front of your eyes! Miracle worker! I will try your recipe and compare!
I just wanted to say I love your channel . It really inspires me and gets me motivated to clean 😇💕💕💕💕
Thank you for watching :)
I learned the old fashioned way, like you, with my parents just telling me to put stuff away with no rhyme or reason really. I actually *learned* how to clean through watching UA-cam videos like yours, Clutterbug, and Minimal Mom.
Let's go beyond cleansing! 💪 This is amazing.
My mother taught me, but you have brought systems and process to me. Thanks,
My grandma taught me to clean.
I have put into practice your 3Wave Cleaning System and using the S method. Game Changers!!
