It's almost insultingly simple looking back on it now, but Apple's marketing to get the iPod aesthetic in the mainstream was nothing short of genius. Those white headphones were legitimately a style flex at the time, people who couldn't afford iPods were buying _just_ the headphones themselves for style points

The Macs were respected, but the company was not doing fantastic when it came to actual profits. The iTunes was also such an important part of the iPod's success because it was very well designed and easy to use even for non-techy people.
