Just a brief addition to that intro:
Walkmen were actually pretty small (sizes range but generally around 13 by 7 cm) and the cassettes actually sounded really nice (still use old sound formats as a hobby). Plus, with 90 mines of music per cassette it was quite portable.
BONUS: The sony discman existed for cds

I miss my iPod classic SO much. That thing lasted SO long and it was so reliable. When mine finally died, I could no longer find one to buy except second hand online and I was worried that they wouldn't work.

A couple of years ago, my aunt moved from another country. She brought an iPod Nano (the recent one) and I was impressed by this. The songs were just some German podcast that's she is trying to learn German from. As she recently moved to Michigan, she told me to keep it and I was happy. To this day, the iPod feels very valuable to me even though it doesn't have a bunch of features.

Important note: most iPod nanos are affected by battery expansion and for reason are a fire hazard. They were very small which allows no headroom for expansion and causes black spots on the screen. Swollen batteries were hard to repair on some models because it involves soldering and you have to slide the internals out. Due to this, Apple recalled the first generation of the nano in 2011 and the iPod nano lineup is the most notorious one amongst the iPod community.

I still use my iPod Touch 4, not as much now due to owning an iPhone. I use my iPod mainly for alarms and occasionally as a backup music device in case my phone runs out of battery (my iphone 6s desperately needs a battery replacement). I have such good childhood memories of playing games and recording funny videos using my iPod. I've owned it since 2012 and it still has not a single crack on the screen. To me it is one of my most valuable possessions.

You can buy a kit that replaces the HDD of a ipod classic with any size of flashdrive up to 2TB. But unless an expert does it for you ,you will have a difficult time opening the case as they are hard to open without damaging the multiple clips that hold it together. I tried but gave up.

Man this video made me remember my older sister's pink ipod nano back in the day. It was hers but i remember hijacking it when she wasnt using so i could listen to her songs lmao. It was, like, the only viable way for me to listen to music. Someone stole the thing while she was in a birthday party, i remember getting really sad about it. And then after a while i got an ipod touch !! It was awesome and it was my main eletronic device at the time. I had like a crappy phone back then, used only for calls, and did everything else in the ipod with wi fi connection and whatnot. I have so many good memories with this thing. I still have it, and i know it works last i checked, but i dont have the charging cable anymore. Still hold it close to my heart though!! Nowadays i just find it easier to use my phone for music. Which is quite a shame, honestly. I know we're at a point where technology has evolved so much we don't need multiple devices for different things. Im thankful for that i guess. But i just think that things had so much more charm back then. Before smartphones, phones had awesome designs and they dared be creative and fun and different. No phone was like the other. Now everything looks the same. Even the last ipod is just an iphone but it cant make calls, clearly looking the part. Idk. Im venting i guess. I know technology is supposed to be the easiest, best thing it can be. But its so... boring. Idk if its just the bostalgia kicking in, and maybe it is, but i feel like a lot of new technologies simply lack personality. Amyway im gonna stop rambling now lmao.

Mini discs and MP3 CD Walkmans where both ‘a thing’ post Walkman, pre iPod.
Also you showed some MP3 players that existed before the iPod (like the Creative Labs).
Apple didn’t invent the MP3 player - they just did it far, far better than the competition.

That is true. By using a hard drive to store the audio instead of a flash storage Apple was able to provide a large amount of storage space but still keep it relatively affordable. Plus, their design was better than other players of that time. I had a Creative Zen player and found it very difficult to use (software wasn't very good, the player had controls that were almost impossible to use).
For me there were only two significant negatives to the iPod: (1) the relatively short battery life, and (2) the need to have to use iTunes (which I strongly dislike). Those caused me to seek out alternatives and I found the Sony Walkman Digital Audio Player (which I still use to this day).

Great video! I’m surprised that you didn’t talke about the wrist strap on the 5th or 6 gen touches. It might just have been only one of those but it was a feature included.

I remember once seeing an iPod nano in person. It was 2014 - 15 and I was like 6 -7 years old. I was traveling with my grandma and aunt in my aunt’s car. I thought it was like a mini phone and I did want one. I didn’t know what it meant, but I remember seeing those app buttons. I still want one to this day, even if it is outdated.
