I will go over how to restore macOS on your new Apple Silicon Mac Mini. Your first line of defense for installing macOS on Apple Silicon should be macOS Recovery. But if for some reason you are having problems with that you can boot your Apple Silicon Mac with a Big Sur USB installer drive. I wrote an article covering all the changes to macOS Recovery here.
mrmacintosh.com/how-to-reinstall-macos-on-your-apple-silicon-mac-everything-you-need-to-know/
Order of that you should follow for reinstalling macOS on Apple Silicon.
1. macOS Recovery
2. System Recovery - (Will boot automatically if macOS Recovery is unavailable)
3. macOS Big Sur USB Installer Drive - (External boot for macOS Installers is enabled by default on Apple Silicon)
4. Apple Configurator 2 REVIVE option - This option will reinstall macOS Recovery (retains user data on the SSD hard drive)
5. Apple Configurator 2 RESTORE option - This option will Reinstall macOS Recovery, ERASE your SSD hard drive and reinstall macOS
Apple has just posted a new articles on macOS recovery, booting to DFU mode and how to restore macOS Firmware.

With 11.2 and 11.3 you can now downgrade macOS Big Sur with just one Mac and without using Apple Configurator 2! This is a huge change and makes downgrading a lot easier for users. In this video I will show you the easiest way to downgrade and retain your data! Let me know if you have any questions!
You can downgrade straight from 11.3 to 11.2.3 using InstallPackage.pkg from within the desktop of macOS 11.3 - no need to create a USB installer and you retain all your data - skips several unnecessary steps! (ua-cam.com/video/uGuC8Lw_TEM/v-deo.html)
The Downloads won mrmacintosh.com doesn't work... Or at least doesn't work for me?
Someone have another link for the 11.2.2 Version of silicon Big Sur please?

Fantastic tutorial! Works very good! Many thanks!
I go to boot picker mode ready, but it not show bigsur boot for install from usb , pls help (do with macbook air m1 from 11.6.8 to 11.2.3)
Incidentally, if you have a mac, stay TF away from 11.6.1. Everything changes and most of my apps stopped working. The security bullshit they've introduced is so over the top that almost no 3rd party app can function properly.
I don't even have a Mac but your videos are just so good omg
ALSO FYI - My 11.6 Macbook Air had an issue that required a wipe and restore from Time machine. HOWEVER, when you do this, Apple's restore app actually restores you up to 11.6.1 without telling you, and then merely copies the time machine files to your new 11.6.1 computer, where they cease to function, since they were installed on 11.6, which had a vastly different set of security parameters.
Hello MM. Thank you for putting these instructions on the web for all to use. It is a great service. I am not familiar with programming languages and your instructions provide an easy-to-understand succession of steps that even I could follow (after skipping by the "erase the whole thing and start over" and restore from Time Machine" options). My 24" iMac M1 came loaded with 11.3.1. Except for freezing up sometimes three or four times each day (think of PCs back in the '90s), it has worked well. I do a lot of document scanning using Preview. Yesterday I upgraded to 11.5.1 and I got the dreaded "You don't have permission..." message when I tried scanning using Preview. I decided that downgrading to 11.4 would be the best alternative to (hopefully) get my Preview scanning privileges back. Unfortunately, when I arrived at the step to specify where to install 11.4 and I chose the M1 drive, a message popped up stating, "This volume cannot be downgraded." Is there anything I can do to work around this restriction? Thank you.
Michael, thank you for your comments! After the video was made apple changed the installers to not allow an install over the top of the current os. The last OS that you could do this with was actually 11.2.3. If you wanted to try that it would work then you could download the 11.4 or 11.5 full installer to update it. You might be better off with running a quick backup and time machine then a fresh install of 11.4 or 11.5.
I've been asked about this you don't have permission message. Which scanner/printer do you have and what was the name of the software that you used?
@@Mr.Macintosh I have been doing some internet searching and ran across this: support.apple.com/en-us/HT208198. It's about the Startup Security Utility for M1 iMacs and describes how to change settings to allow booting from an external source.

Hi MM, just had a run-through of most of your videos, saying they are HELPFUL is an understatement. Just want to ask though, if the video above is applicable to Big Sur 11.5.2? Was trying to get the 11.2.3 installer from your link but am not able to. :(
Deus, the 11.2.3 link from Apple's servers is causing some issues for some people. You can download it here archive.org/details/install-mac-os-11.2.3-20-d-91 this version was uploaded by the main developer of OCLP.

Hi Mr. Macintosh,
Thank you so much for these instructions, they worked perfectly to downgrade my mac min to 11.2.3 after 11.3 killed my wifi. YOU ROCK!

Thanks! Excellent video! I see some previous comments saying that users have certain programs which won't work after OS downgrade.
