Interesting that on the support documentation from Apple it specifically says it doesn't support Thunderbolt 3 cables. Here I was trying multiple USB-C with data and PD and it kept failing giving me "Gave up waiting for device to transition from DFU state to DFU state.". Watched your video and saw you were actually using a Thunderbolt 3 cable and I decided to try it too, even though Apple's support document says it wouldn't work and voilá, restore complete. Thank you for the video!
It's a tough call right, Apple says that they do not support the cable but it DOES work!!! It is always good to have backup options if you don't have the correct cable at the time 👍

Hi Can I use a host device that doesn't have USB C port and uses normal USB A port to restore a device with USB C? Like the MacBook Air 2015 as host restoring MacBook Air 2020. Please answer, I really need to know this. Thanks in advance.
Very very fast method! THANKS! is it possible to install (quickly restore) via external drive with a BigSur.DMG image? (Maybe a same hackintosh image...) If so, teach us, please!
Thanks Alexandre! You can install from an external createinstallmeda big sur USB installer but not a Big Sur.dmg yet. You CAN with Catalina and below using ASR. It's currently a bug with ASR.
Hey, is it possible to reinstall macOS on a 2018 Macbook Air with this method? It won't let me use and external USB drive and the Mac also won't boot onto Recovery Mode

Hi there!!! Thanks a lot for all your videos and blog!! Ive got a tons of information from you!!! Quick question to you - do you know something about bugs or troubles with BigSur 11.1 installation from usb drive to Intel macs at this moment? Thing is that since 11-13 January i cant start installation from usb on any Intel based Mac. I’m starting with OPT key, getting first screen with loading options, but when I click to install macos from usb mac goes to internet recovery every time. I’ve tried it on different devices but always getting same results.
Anton, what kind of mac do you have? 2018 or newer? If you have 2017 and below you should have no problem, if 2018 or above you need to change the external boot media first.
@@Mr.Macintosh Thanks for reply! All Macs were 2019 and younger. If you means enabling boot from external drive - it was enabled on every device. But anyway there was no message about “disabled boot from external drive” Once again all my steps 1.Turn on with Option key, see all drivers including my boot usb 2. Choose my usb installer 3. Bang! Globe, loading from internet! No messages, errors etc Same issue with different Macs and usb flash- that’s what confuses me. Tried to REVIVE and RESTORE with iBridge.ipsw some devices but there is no effect I thought maybe 11.1 is not signed anymore for this kind of restore
very nice. would recommend for client deployment
For sure Martin, this is perfect for schools or businesses that need to deploy a large number of Macs.

This method is only available for new Apple Silicon M1 Macs. What happens when you try to boot into recovery with Command R ?
