How to make a pillowcase with only 3 seams!
In this week's video tutorial I show you how to make an adorable and easy pillowcase with only 3 seams! The method used to create the pillowcase is often referred to as the Burrito method... or sausage method... or the roll up method.
This is the perfect beginner project for a few reasons... it's a functional project that will be put to good use, it's quick and easy, and you can learn how to make french seams in this tutorial. French seams are a way of enclosing all raw edges and seams so that the finished project looks very clean and professional!
For this project you will need:
    Fabric:
Body of the pillowcase: 24" x Width of Fabric (usually 40"-45")
Cuff of the pillowcase: 12" x Width of Fabric (usually 40"-45")
Accent trim of the pillowcase: 2" x Width of Fabric (usually 40"-45")
    Supplies:
    rotary cutter: craftygemini.com/shop/olfa-28...
    cutting mat: craftygemini.com/shop/martell...
    ruler: craftygemini.com/shop/crafty-...
    pins
iron (I did a video on my favorite irons here: • Best Irons for Sewing ... )
    coordinating thread
    sewing machine

Two years ago I made over 50 pillowcases for Christmas presents, after watching and rewatching this video. The pillowcases have washed wonderfully!! No problems! Today I came back for a refresher. I found a super cute piece of fabric. I must turn it into a fun pillowcase. Thank you again!! Stay safe.

Check with your local fabrics and craft stores to see if they know of a group that does this. That is where I met the group that I helped. Or call a children's hospital, regular hospital, or nursing home to see if there is a need for blankets or pillow cases and start a group up yourself :)

I'm finally taking a beginners sewing class & this is one of the 1st projects - Your tutorial help me a lot - The teacher went over it once and was hard to follow the directions that were given without asking questions at home. I watched your video a dozen times while preparing everything.
I was able to go to class with one complete pillowcase yesterday & it turned out great.
I told everyone in class about your tutorial - thanks for posting this.

I should have commented a long time ago -- but this is REALLY well done! I've made so many pillowcases after watching this. And everytime I need a reminder on the cutting widths, I pull this up. Huge thanks for a great tutorial! I hate watching videos because they're usually so incredibly slow paced. This one gets everything done quickly, professionally, without a lot of extra chatter. One of the best I've seen!

I made about 8 of these for Christmas presents for the children in the PICU Unit of the Cleveland Clinic. My 3-yeat-old great niece, a liver/heart transplant recipient enjoyed giving them to all the kids in the unit. Brightens up their area, and brightened up my niece's holiday giving spirit. LOVE MAKING THESE. THANK YOU.

Made 2 pillowcases; first one I had to rip seams because the band frayed out the edges. Then I didn’t trim seams enough and they were sticking out the final seam. On the second pillow case, I was more vigilant and it came out perfectly and very quickly! Great instruction! Thanks! I’m sure that the more I make, the better I’ll get.

Just made one. One thing I learned the hard way, since the stitching won't show, use contrasting thread to make it easier to see how close you are to trimming near the stitching on the french seams. Oh vey! My eyes aren't as good as they used to be. Great tutorial. Thanks! I'm sure I'll make more. :-)

THIS IS A GREAT TUTORIAL VIDEO!! I'd just like to add one tip given to me by a cyber friend! I love to use directional fabrics for this pillowcase. Directional fabrics make a new rule of thumb with these darling pillowcases. If purchasing 44-45' wide fabric I always had to splice the back of the case to make the fabric wide enough if doing the project with the selvages on the left to right sides as suggested. HOWEVER - If you purchase 1 yd & 6" of fabric you can rotate the fabric and not have to splice. Ohhhh yeah!!! Yep..there's a little waste, but there's always a use for a scrap somewhere else .

This tutorial gave me so much confidence to make pillowcases. I've started making some using flannel remnants and they look super cute.

Ran into this video for the 1st time a couple months ago. Was afraid to try, and finally broke down and did one today. French seams are awesome. Thank you so much for the super easy pillowcases...many more in my future to donate to the women's shelter
