Thank you for this Philip, just ordered a tester myself for the same car and same miles. I take really good care of it so I’m surprised this all happened guess it’s just a bad car. What did the customer end up doing?
You can take the old bottle of yellow fluid, submerge your air blow nozzle into the fluid and gently blow bubbles/airate the fluid for about 60 seconds and it will return to a blue color and purge hc from the fluid. That will get you by in a pinch if you need to use old block test fluid. Try it for yourself.
Good to know. I tossed it already but I'm going to try it with some used fluid that has turned. I thought the reaction was from carbon dioxide though. Doesn't it turn if you blow your breath into it?
Not really sure what the Patriots are worth, they are basically a Caliber made to look like a Jeep. I am guessing $5000 for engine and install or more. Hummmm. Not sure if they are worth $10,000 running? (CAD)
I own a 2014 compass wich is pretty much the same thing with a different bodystyle and let me tell you. stay away from these vehicles. they are built like tin cans. In the past year i have replaced the throttle body, the rear break calipers, the ABS brake sensor, and now the AC condenser has seized up as well. And the vehicle only has 83,000 miles. I understand a 2014 isn't a new vehicle but that much stuff failing under 100k miles is just unacceptable. Wont be buying another chrysler product ever again.
You are correct it's supposed to be orange but he's been adding universal green coolant. As far as your issue is concerned start by checking the level. If its consuming coolant and there I'd no external leak it'd likely a head gasket failure. It usually doesn't get into the oil. Look for bubbles in the radiator while running.
Great observation. I bet they are saying they added universal but put in some old stuff found laying around . It really doesn't look like the owner took care of that car. I have one and haven't had any problems with it
Phillip, Great approach to diagnose this car learning from the best thanks for sharing brother.
I think its still worth repairing if parts are available , but its up to the owner . good call Phillip
given the current price of vehicles it's definitely worth fixing. We will see.
I'm going through same issue. I turn on the heat to keep it fro. Going up further
Found any solutions ? Been going through this for about a month

@@PhillipBailey yeah, I'm not certain which gas turns it yellow. I just always assumed it was hc
One of them spark plugs may be pretty steam cleaned! Thanks

Absolutely NOT!
Glad I got rid of mine around 90k miles. I spent way too much money on that car.

I feel your pain but honestly they all have issues. Just pick your poison...
I feel you. I have the same problem.
@@PhillipBailey That might be true, the older Toyota, Nissan, Honda and some of the newer Toyota and Honda, just maintain and drive.
I got antifreeze shooting out exhaust pipe…any idea why ?
Likely blown head gasket. Are you sure it's coolant?
@@PhillipBailey yea green antifreeze n it crank’s over but no start
@javierochoa432 that's definitely not a good thing. Careful not to hydraulic lock the engine and possibly bend a connecting rod.
Why is coolant in reservoir a different color from in the radiator?
not sure what you mean by this question. It could be different if someone topped it off with a different color coolant.
Car looks abused who knows what they threw in there
2.4 dodge (Mitsubishi? Motor) famous for head gasket blowing.
Hey Phil thanks for the well filmed documentary. Do you believe a transmission manual conversion is plausible?
Not sure what you're asking here. This car needs engine work not transmission repairs.
Why green....? Mopar of these years calls for orange..... wont green break it and cause head gasket issue....
Also.....i am having sinilar issues but no coolant in engine oil...... not when hot, nor cold..... any ideas...

My bmw was less pain in the ass than my 2014 jeep patriot
God look at it. It looks like it was buried.in dirt. No wonder its messed up. It looks abused.
