I have a 2014 jeep compass with 188000 kms on it and runs great !! I have done periodical maintenance’s like suspension and brake repairs which is common for all the vehicles. The best advise is to do the regular oil services and replace the spark plugs when it’s due (the user manual has the exact periods on when to do the maintenances). The only extra stuff I had to do is to replace the electronic throttle control and the alternator which is not that expensive. If you take care of her she runs great and is a beast in the northern Ontario weather. And please be nice to her, just because it’s a 4*4 don’t make her work too hard 😂.. I love my Jeep!! Thanks to 1A Auto for this video. Great information.
I've had zero issues with my 14 2.0 manual transmission. 170,000km runs perfectly did rims and a nice rice muffler Lucas oil and it pulls my camper through the mountains like a mule I love this car it rips😎
One thing you might want to mention is with leaks in the roof, on either side in the front corners of the sun roof are drains. It has a small tube that goes down through the A pillar and exits behind the front wheel wells. These tubes can get blocked from dirt, dust, and such. If they get blocked the water can back up and will leak down through the ceiling liner. Mine leaked right by the center courtesy light, and would drip down on the shifter.
Yes sir! That's exactly what happened to mine. I asked mechanic to just replace the seal. Nope! He said that was not an option. I had to pay $500 to replace the whole sunroof drainage system. Not sure if I got ripped off. 😒😒
Wow! 1A Auto, thanks for those 5 problems on the first generation of Jeep compass 2007-17. I asked and you guys came through, I have a 2011, I did have the struts go bad on the driver side that was replaced. 4 years ago I had to change the electronic throttle pedal that when bad, now this year 2021 the water pump was leaking and replaced, the vehicle only have 77,000 miles well maintained. Hopefully things doesn't get any worse but the electronic problem underneath the driver side wheelwell that you pointed out got me worried. The quality of vehicles made these days are not like they used to be like back then, they used to care about making a good quality vehicle.
I bought a 2009 Caliber. After thirteen years it is still going strong. Never had an issue with the tranny or engine. Only had to replace the throttle body. My father in law inherited it.

Yea that relay box was causing my car to stall in middle of the road while turning. Almost drove off a cliff. Good one jeep, you got me there! I guess I'll be soldering wire under my jeep for the weekend.
I own a 2007 Compass, living in Canada and rough roads the story can be different. I noticed a lot of rust EVERYWHERE, especially around the rear wheel wells and subframe, I tried replacing my sway bar bushings, I snapped the first bolt I touched. Not only that but the suspension system is not the greatest, I must have replaced every arm and linkage.
I had a 2011 limited UK Spec 2.1 Mercededs Diesel. 104000 miles when I replaced it with no problems except the water pump which failed at 85000. It's expensive linked with powersteering pump and not an easy job to do. I replaced the 2011 model after 4 years with a MY 14 and the same UK spec diesel engine 5 years ago. Now with 92000 miles no problems except for the same waterpump failure at around the same miles an annoying squeak from the rear suspension, and am now about to replace a rear wheel bearing due to noise . I 've no real complaints with the Compass except for the expensive water pump, it has good towing and off road capability, and returns around 41/42 MPG in daily use, The interior and body work finish is good , reliablity is excellent and servicing costs reasobable. A good vehicle for the money and even better value now they are getting older,
My daughter’s 2012 Jeep Compass Sport has the check engine light on. The diagnostic on it is saying it’s the crankshaft sensor that needs to be replaced as her Jeep stalls out while she’s driving it! Finally found a shop that is qualified to fix it & hoping that it’s not going to be too hard to repair 🙏🏽🤞🏽Thanks for the vid!
I have a 2014 Jeep Compass. I got it at 30k miles and am going at 88k right now. So far I have had to replace standard time things like a headlight bulb and ac. Recently I replaced a ball joint. The only real issue I have is this noise when I break going over a speed bump or turning a corner, like a squeek but my breaks are fine. I live in Florida and to maintain it I wash it 1 a month.
You were spot on . I would never but a jeep other than a willys . My brother in law did and even with a Warranty it still cost 1300 dollars to replace the relay box . I had a 86 Chevy pickup for 30 years with a 464 big block .
How many times you replaced the throttle?? I just replaces mines in December 2021 and it’s only been 5 months and the engine light came on as well as the thunder bolt light came on like is that possible??
There's four rainwater drain holes on the sunroof that get clogged . And I clean them with some weed eater line and some water or air . . The front ones come out in the fender area and care difficult to spot from that angle but you can feed the line thru the top by opening the sunroof and looking with a flashlight in each corner. And the rear ones you will find the holes exit just under the roof where the rear hatch closes.
thank you very much mam. nice video and nice explanation. I'm from Georgia(the country) and last year I purchased 2013/12 jeep compass 4wd, with small damage (only rer bumper and rear right light were broken). it was little bit rusty from bottom but who cares. it had 164000 miles when I purchased and now it has 174000 miles and runs perfectly. the only major issue, which I met was drive shaft center bearing, which is impossible to change, if broken.... so, I've purchased whole driveshaft and change it.... so, what to say - cheapest car to purchase (comparing to the income in my country), cheeaper service and cheaper spare parts (Chinese or Taiwanese details for drive terrain - working niceely). all in all, nice car and another plus - it consumes regular gasoline, which is really benefit for the owner. +1 subscribe and respect to you.
I have noticed that in 2007 jeep compass has bigger problem of rust as well, the rust other the car, and the suspensions are jst too poor. I love Jeep so much but i hope they fixed that in the later models.
Exactly.. I have a 2009 and it really likes to pour out of the dome light while making right hand turns, somehow managing to hit my leg. I don't even use my sunroof.
On the manual transmission, it is the input/output shaft bearings. Symptom is transmission noise when the clutch is released. If noise when the clutch is pushed it is the throwout bearing. The biggest problem that I have is bad quality replacement parts, especially half shafts that fail after 5,000 km. It is hit or miss whether a non-OEM replacement part will last. Latest problem is a replacement hub that is out of alignment causing a wobble on the rotor.
We just hot a 2015 fir my son. When he turns on a signal the headlights go off but he can put them on bright. However only the bright ones will work, not the low beams. Kill the car restart and all is fine. It's used, under warranty but all they did was replace all the bulbs, they said.
Hi. Your explanation is impressive. I own a jeep compass 2019 a year ago and one day morning suddenly my car showing 5-6warnings. Like "service parking break", "service ebd", "service abs" etc... Can you explain? I can share you the image showing errors.
This why I’m here looking at this video because I have the same issue on my 2019 compass. Took it to the dealership and said it was senor/harness… fixed but not even a week later all these warnings are on again!! At this point I’m not happy with my “new” car
@@AbbysvidaMia did it turn out to be the alternator by chance?? I have a Sorento, similar situation happened to me, and it turned out to be my alternator
"PLEASE DONT REMOVE THESE" lmao, well when I only had my compass about a month, I was on a job and an old lady needed a jump. So I go to help, and not knowing under my hood, I look at the ECM and say, oh that must be some new battery terminal and disconnected it. WOMP, all shut down, error codes all over the dash lol. And the throttle was really spotty. Fortunately, all it took was resetting the system and the codes and I was good. So, the battery is covered by a plastic housing for those who dont know :D
Just a note on one of your suggestions. NEVER use RTV/silicone sealant on body exterior. It will make it almost impossible to paint the vehicle. Especially in the area the rtv was used. Only urathane sealants should be used.
The only problem mentioned in the video I had were the leaking struts in the rear. Mine has 228000 km now, additional to normal service I had to change the drive shaft (bad Ujoints --> vibrations from 20 to 30 kmh, terrible noise), wheel bearings, struts, suspension arms (squeaking noise from the back caused through bad bushings). At the moment my fuel pump has a whining noise. A part of my cat got loose and ended up in the muffler, had to cut the muffler open in order to extract it. Gas springs of the tailgate caused the tin of the trunk to break, had to be welded. Terrible rust on the subframe in the front and back caused through bad paint from the factory. There is no hose for the condense water of the air conditioning, the water drops directly at the front subframe and causes rust. Even had a rust hole in the rear subframe, not visible from the outside because it went through under the paint. Missing sealant in the folds of the tailgate and underbody cause extreme rust. Had the throttle valve light being one quite a few times. Besides all that I like my car very much. Most annoying thing is the rust everywhere caused through savings on sealant. The other parts are mainly wearing parts in my opinion.
Just replaced my TIPM module on 2016 compass, had to redo it a week later when it failed again, defective part put in 1st time. Then read a bunch of TIPM issues with several Chrysler models.
I’m having the same issue on my 2013 Jeep compass. I’ve read it causes a lot of faulty electrical issues. Getting mine fixed soon. Hopefully that’s the end to my worries
manufacturers should be held accountable for rusting undercarriage components. The body does not rust. why the hell do they not protect undercarriage parts from rusting?
Curse those things to Hell. I had a 2007 Compass. It had almost complete electrical failure, in that basically the only electrical systems that worked perfectly were the seat heaters and the stereo. Traction control/stability control/ABS would randomly go haywire so I had to pull the breaker that controls that system just to make the thing drivable. Since that system was disabled, the CVT transmission also didn't work properly. Rear lower control arm rotted away, the alternator pulley failed which took me almost 6 hours to remove and replace. The cam phaser wasn't working and the intake runners were stuck in the open position. To be fair, on the occasion when everything decided to work properly it honestly wasn't a bad vehicle. Fairly quiet, decent ride and handling and fuel mileage wasn't bad, roughly 28 mpg on a mostly highway drive with some slower country road driving. Even the AWD system was fairly competent. I blame Daimler's vicious cost cutting for the numerous problems those things had
I have a 2015 bought almost 3 years ago and worst decision ever Iv fixed lower control arms, tire rods, electronic throttle control and so much other shit now I need struts and brakes but something just always needs to be done I’m over it!!
I do not worry about that because I have bumper to bumper Lifetime maximum care warranty by Chrysler on my 2013 Jeep Compass Sport 2.0 44,398 miles on it!
My compass is at 125k miles and now things are starting to happen. I’ve had no issues fr besides replacing parts that normally should be replaced. But recently my compass has been overheating and I’m trying to figure out why so I can go ahead and get the work done before more damage is done to my baby
That happened to mine, never smoked though. I drove it for a year while it would “overheat” and then replaced the thermostats (they kept getting stuck) and now it works great again.
I must say I am frustrated to no end with my 2015 Jeep compass! I ALWAYS wanted a Jeep sense I started driving. Jeep was my love. I finally got my hands on one at Mark Motors in Sanford Maine! I have had it almost 2 years now and it has given me NOTHING but heart ake and a very empty pocket book! Jeep Just Empty Every Pocket is the truth! Starting the day I drove it off the lot. It had no power and choked. I took it back to the dealer and they said it was a sensor. I had bumper to bumper and was told sensors where covered. Well nope even with the man who told me it was covered they still charged me over 700.00 to replace the sensor. This did not fix the problem! I took it back just a few days later for the very same issue. Oddly enough there was an interesting full on critter nest where critters chewed my wires in just a couple of days.so they rewired it and it was good to go. Then some tire light came on and I was told not to worry about it it was an idiot light. Then the lightning bolt lit up and I had to replace the throttle housing. Then I discovered my driver's side foot well was soaked with no apparent reason that they could tell me. Then this leak of water in the back not from the tail pipe but from the exhaust tank thing with no apparent reason they could give me. Then my brake lights just won't shut off. No key in ignition and brake lights remain on. Dash lights used to turn off after a few minutes of just turning key off. Now the key needs to be removed to turn them off! It breaks my heart all I have done is fix this and fix that on it. My Saturn I never had to fix anything. Just routine matnance that's it. This jeep every other day I'm fixing something on this jeep. Now I turn on heat and push the button to circulate the heat the ac automatically goes on. I get an oil change and in less then 30 days it tells me I need an oil change and I haven't driven it a hundred miles yet. So disappointed in this Jeep compass I won't ever buy another one...
I have a 2015 Jeep Compass I first start it no warning lights then as I’m moving it shuts off I was stuck in the middle of the highway was able to crank it back up after 2 tries but now the check engine light is on now any ideas how that could happen feels like transmission was slipping too and when it cranks there’s a tapping noise as well
2016 Patriot I've had to replace my throttle body after it went into limp mode. My suspension is starting to clunk at 83k miles. Other than that been a great rig.
I have a 2007 compass and it goes in and out of 4X4 by itself. When I start it, it is in 4X4 and about 100 yards down the road it changes to regular drive.
This is not a car that can be driven until the engine explodes. It requires regular maintenance. I replaced the entire front and rear suspension due to neglect from the previous owners. I upgraded the windshield wipers and lights. Most of my issues with the 2.4 motors and CVT transmissions are sensor related. The first time I coded there were 67 codes. I am down to three. Crankshaft and camshaft sensors restored acceleration. Oxygen sensors are normal for 110k. I add seafoam in oil and gas as instructed. I changed the rims to 2003 mustangs. It rides better. New tires all around. There was an exhaust leak. Hope this helps. Now the throttle body is going out. Still, normal for 110k. I have seen a lot of deer between here and ny and Ohio. I upgrade to led bulbs. I need an ac charge.
My biggest complaint is finding the tan interior replacement parts and keeping the seats clean. I am currently working on my window controller replacement.
The pickings were slim. We just got the 2020 Jeep Compass Trailhawk. I'm hoping all the problems are fixed in that one. Friend (who works for jeep) said that the most common reason for repair is that stop/idle restart. Said if/when you turn it off and that 2nd battery goes dead it then sends a bunch of error codes to the computer and starts causing all kinds of problems. He told us to NEVER turn it off. I hate it though!!! its all BS stuff we don't need.
I had a 2009 Jeep Patriot and that vehicle was one of the biggest headaches I’ve ever owned. Replaced 2 CVT transmissions and the transfer case by 120k. Also the power steering rack at 130k. It was a pavement princess so no actual off roading. Just sad the quality of Fiat Chrysler is so awful.
On the sunroof, they all so have two drain holes . Open the sunroof and on the front on both sides is where you'll find them. Mine was leaking, took a clothes hanger and cleaned it. Stopped leaking.
Thank you for sharing. I have a 2012 and it's the longest I have ever owed a vehicle in my inter life. I usually only put 2000 miles a year on it.I keep it clean in the garage. It has 75000 on it now.I am having issues with the heater right now.I checked the antifreeze first.Next I am checking the fuses. A while ago the light stopped working on the buttons for the air control knobs. If anyone else has any other ideas about what it could be please give me a shout-out.Thanks.

ABS light comes on sometimes. Has nee battery and new clamps on top. Alternator tests good. How do we fix this?
Every six months use a hose and nozzle to clean the sun roof drains. They have small diameter pipes and if they don't work water will drip inside through your dome light.
If your Compass jerks around upon acceleration and you think it might be the transmission, more than likely it is not. Try changing out your spark plugs, fixed my issue.

Hello friends, excellent video, I have a 2014 jeep compass, the air door opening and closing actuator is broken, he repairs it, but I realized that the bar that makes it turn rotates more than it should and breaks the actuator inner part (to open the door it should only rotate 180 degrees, but I find that it rotates around 230 degrees and that causes the inner gear of the actuator to break). For now, leave it open permanently... my question is whether the problem will be with the actuator or the signal it receives? Thank you so much.

Hi I changed the transmission because the old one was loud. I bought a used transmission and when we tested it, whenever I put it in reverse, it shakes. The shaking also happens when I shift it into drive. So then I changed the transmission again, but now, when it’s on drive, it stays at 1 and it doesn’t continue shifting to 2, 3, 4, 5. It is a 2007 jeep patriot. What do I have to do for it to work? Do I need to change or reset something?
also don't forget the d... GASCAP code. That btw doesn't have to do anything with the gas cap. You can replace it 20 times and the code won't disappear....
For some reason my 2017 will automatically turn on the headlights and unlock itself randomly ,we gone out and lock it again sometime later the headlights are back on and the doors are unlocked again

+1 subscribe and respect to you.
I have noticed that in 2007 jeep compass has bigger problem of rust as well, the rust other the car, and the suspensions are jst too poor. I love Jeep so much but i hope they fixed that in the later models.
It was really fun when water started pouring out from the dome light after a heavy rain
Exactly.. I have a 2009 and it really likes to pour out of the dome light while making right hand turns, somehow managing to hit my leg. I don't even use my sunroof.
Same thing happend to mine I have a 2015 literally came in my car from work one day and it was pouring through my light and sunroof insane
Kari looking good 👍
On the manual transmission, it is the input/output shaft bearings.
Hi, Thanks for mentioning this. Where would you get this sealant?
Relays and box look good no corrosion. Could it be a bad relay . Have 12 volt on red wire at relay
Most of my Compass MK drivers friends have a vibration when the gear-box is on drive mode and the foot is on the brake when engine running.
I have a 2015 Jeep Compass I first start it no warning lights then as I’m moving it shuts off I was stuck in the middle of the highway was able to crank it back up after 2 tries but now the check engine light is on now any ideas how that could happen feels like transmission was slipping too and when it cranks there’s a tapping noise as well
2016 Patriot
I've had to replace my throttle body after it went into limp mode.
My suspension is starting to clunk at 83k miles.
Other than that been a great rig.
Surprised blend door actuators are not listed.
Yes she is a pain in the butt, but I paid 1000. Once the repairs are made she is reliable.
Odd ive had a compass for 5 years now and havent had any of these issues
The pickings were slim. We just got the 2020 Jeep Compass Trailhawk. I'm hoping all the problems are fixed in that one. Friend (who works for jeep) said that the most common reason for repair is that stop/idle restart. Said if/when you turn it off and that 2nd battery goes dead it then sends a bunch of error codes to the computer and starts causing all kinds of problems. He told us to NEVER turn it off. I hate it though!!! its all BS stuff we don't need.
+markerf16 Thanks for the feedback!
+FindingIsaac Thanks for the feedback!
It isnt a Fiat-Chrysler! Fiat didnt come until a few years later...This is based on a Mitsubishi!!
What are the current issues 2019 Jeep compass trailhawk please

@@1AAuto thank you.. I like being a do it your selver.. I hate to take cars to dealers they over charge. we have a nice garage and my hubby and brother can usually fix anything and sometimes I fix my own.
@@1AAuto I am so happy I fixed my car today all on my own. It was the fuse.. ty.
My daughter had a 2011 Jeep Compass. It starts most of the time., but lately she can drive across town then has to jump it to get home. Sometimes she can drive it home then she cant lock the doors. ABS light comes on sometimes. Has nee battery and new clamps on top. Alternator tests good. How do we fix this?
Every six months use a hose and nozzle to clean the sun roof drains. They have small diameter pipes and if they don't work water will drip inside through your dome light.
What’s about the alternator problem on this vehicle ?

Well i own a 2015 compass 140k miles for the moment everything fine.
I’m thinking about getting a 2015 this week with 70k on it do you think it’s worth it? I’d prefer to stay in the keep family though everyone hates lol
Any idea why my 4x4 and seat heaters stopped working? Not a fuse
From 2007 to 2017 they used very different diesel engines. 1st gen used vw 2.0 engines, from 2011 Merc 2.2 om651 engine
I have a 2014 compass high beam light won’t work just on one side. Tried replacing build nothing any thoughts
If your Compass jerks around upon acceleration and you think it might be the transmission, more than likely it is not. Try changing out your spark plugs, fixed my issue.
Soo,is it mostly on the automatics or all of them?!? I'm looking at a 2015 compass sport 6sp with low miles, what yall think?
My friend has a 2015 and as she drive her car just shuts off. Could any of these issues be the problem?

I have a 2014 jeep compass and the engine light is on...and it's not moving at all ...but it starts good
Sounds like it would be a good idea to move the box....
My antifreeze keeps leaking out. Several shops could not find any cracks and can't see why the antifreeze keeps running out causing it to run hot. I need answers please. Thank you

I have a lot of rust on my 2010 Compass and bad suspension! I'm in Canada. A other problem I notice since the I have my Jeep is I'm rolling and stop the vehicle go to the stores go back in side the jeep and the Jeep won't start! I have to wait a couple of minutes and the vehicle will restart. My Jeep is manual 2wd 4.4 engine.
We got a jeep 2017 compass latitude 2.7 liter . The turning blinkers blinks two times and they blink rapidly after that is that normal for this model? Both the left and right do it.

is it a good car? They sell me one year 2007 with 170 thousand km
Reset it in a dark alley with the key in it and the doors unlocked and hope somebody Steals it! I will never buy another Jeep :-D
had two censors replaced in right front passenger wheel and I turned off the traction control on the dash. how do I turn traction control back on?
Really Chrysler? I hope the genius who put relays in that position was fired
@A Rodriguez I was thinking the same thing!
So many of these get scrapped because of that fender well issue such a joke I had this problem fixed it myself but had I not known
How bout a/c system 3 compressors rebuild plus 2 new ones.
also don't forget the d...

Problem #1: SO glad I have the 2.0L
Junk like this is what gives an American made cars that stigma thanks allot Chrysler. Had a 2008 compass not even 2 years old had my car completely shut off waiting for a light to turn green it started back up the check engine light came on. A cylinder misfire, this was at only 24 k miles, had it fixed and then it happened again this was a problem with the 2008 model hopefully they fixed everything in Gen 2 cause I feel bad for the people who buy this car and don’t research online for problems.
I replaced the fuel pump on my compass however i can't seem to find a video on the location of the fuel strainer can anyone point me to the right direction 2.4 2007 not 4wd
