Lol or a father that worked on stuff but never told u how to do stuff so u just figure it out your self most great mechanics are self tough and can work on anything 10x better then a tech thats been to school for one brand of vehicles
This was so helpful. Exactly what I needed to fix it today. Watched it at noon, went to autozone and changed them in about 15minutes!!! No more hiccups in the ride, perfect! I wish I could get you lunch man!
I was having problems with my 2016 patriot for over a year... took it to 3 garages and no one could see why the transmission was jerking, no power, sluggish on the gas. after watching this video I changed my plugs and it was night and day after the change. Thanks a bunch!
Thank you! I can do this myself now. You saved me at least $50. I'm a single mom doing whatever I can to get by. You're a blessing. My son can even help me. We'll do it tomorrow.
@@DelvianPriestess9 yikes! Well, my Jeep runs like a champ again, full power of a 6 cylinder in a Lil 4-banger! Love this Jeep. It was even easier than it looked!!! Yay! Go mom!
As a kid, I would see my dad change the plugs but never knew how to do it on my own. I’m 37 now and about to change the plugs on my own. Thank you for this video.
Thank you for the video yours was the best explained so tomorrow I’m going to auto zone going to follow this and this 55 year old grandma is going to attempt to change her own plugs. Wish me luck
Very helpful. Got a 2011 patriot with 115,000 miles. Plugs have never been changed. Factory plugs. I too have been experiencing hesitation and jerkiness when accelerating. Thanks Joel
Thanks so much for this video!! Know nothing about cars and just successfully changed the plugs - mechanic wanted $300 for this (!!), so you saved me over $250. So so grateful!!
If any other people new to car maintenance see this, just want to add to be sure to either get an extra long spark plug socket or to attach the extension to the socket! Had a scary moment where the socket was stuck on the spark plug because the extension disconnected. Finally got it out after wiggling/twisting it for 15 min and then went and got a socket that had an extension attached to it. Easy after that!
TY for postig- single mom- w/ sons jeep patriot 2015. he is gonna replace them himself. Thannkks for saving us $$$, They told us it was a clogged fuel line- needed to be dropped & cleaned-mest $1500-2000. BS. they just wanted dough.
Thank you for the video! I also thought it was my transmission. I have 50k miles on my 2016 patriot. Changed all 4 spark plugs and it drives smooth now. No more shutter and hesitation. Wish I would have saw this video before I took it to the Jeep Dealership. They diagnosed a throttle body and I had them replace it for $800.
Did you have any wheel bearing or cv shaft issues yet? Mine has 56k miles on it and sounds like a wheel bearing going on it. But when I jack it up and try to wiggle the wheels there is zero slop in them. Idk. Thanks
Wife and I have a 2008 Patriot with 240k miles that is bucking at throttle-up. After a few of these videos, I'll start with the plugs and work my way up. Thanks Joel!
Legend! My Patriot was running like shit and this video fixed it!!! My car was even getting serviced by a Jeep dealership and they did even mention the issue ever after scheduled servicing. I even told them about the jumpyness and they said it was just common with the type of transmission. Thanks mate
used this video 30k miles ago to fix my plugs.. looks like its time again..some sluggishness on acceleration... LOL really is the easiest set of spark plugs I have ever changed.
Really like how you explained it step by step thank you for that. Most just say what they are changing and do it going to the parts store now and change my wifes plugs. Have a good day and stay safe Jimmy from Massachusetts
Thank you so much man this was super helpful and straightforward. Gonna pick up what I need and get this done this week. I’m on 60k miles and experiencing that same stuttering when accelerating. I’m very young and never heard of a “service schedule” before lol going to be more proactive moving forward.
Perfect.... thank u, I got the flashing eng lite. 2014 PATRIOT - 121, 431 Miles. Starts, runs but the engine is skipping, No leaks, no smoke, no mixed fluids. Seems like the power has been cut in half. TODAY I'm doing the plugs. (NGK 2262) Then changing the 5w / 20 oil and filter. Hopefully It gets me back on the road, clears the code to a blank dash cluster and full power! THANKS FOR THE VIDEO
Yes - it worked - Running Like a Top Again! Thanks. Who knew that Chrysler/Jeep would only put 30,000 mile spark plugs in new vehicles. Good news the new plugs I got at Advanced Auto Part only cost $2.59 each and since this job was so easy I figured why not save a few buck. If they last for 30,000 miles that is worth it for 15 mins worth of work.
Thank you! You saved me money i didn't have for the shop to replace these! You made so i with laughable car fixing abilities was able to follow and get the job done! Thank you again!!!
Thanks for this. I've been changing my own plugs for years. But I have a manual jeep, no codes. And i get a hesitation/jerk around 2500 rpm in every gear. I was looking around for gap distance and torque specs, and found your video. Very informative. And I've broken a spark plug in a head before. Not a fun or cheap job. So thanks.
this is exactly what my 2011 patriot is doing..I thought it was the CVT acting up...I am going to get plugs tomorrow..Thanks for the great concise video.
Thanks for posting this. We just did this to my sons car and it worked perfectly to make it run smoothly and accelerate smoothly. Thanks for doing a great job giving instructions.
Had difficulty keeping the plugs on the socket. It is a spark plug socket but jamming duct in the back of it did the trick. Duct tape still a top 5 tool.
I watched the video, and then changed all my plugs in about 30 minutes. Great tutorial. Thanks! (By the way, you really do need the deep 5/8 plug socket in order to lift the plugs out. Shorter socket wouldn't work, however I figured out that you can pull the old plug out using the boot of the coil you removed.)

Hey so i know this vid is old, but i think the other night i def over threaded the first cylinders bolt by accident. i swear it ran way smoother immideately but then started misfiring shortly after with flashing CEL briefly on or a solid light. It switches up a lot. Took it to a shop today, they ran the codes and yea said misfire in cylinder one and told me to replace the coil. But when installing the new one, thats when i noticed for sure that the little brass thread in there would pop out when trying to unscrew that first bolt. The coil doesnt sit correctly im guessing.... very frustrating especially as a novice
the 2.4L on either jeep compass or patriot can only used the copper plugs?, no iridium or platinum? Asking so i don't have to replace them every 30K miles.
I tried changing mine. I was able to change one by hardest. When I loosen the plugs I kept turning it and turning it and turning into t but I couldn’t get the plugs out. I know the plugs were loose because I can reach down in wiggle it around.,I just can’t figure out why they won’t come out. So I gave up. I don’t have the time or patience for it.
It's a spark plug socket. The one I used is from Snap-On and is an extended reach. You can get a spark plug socket and use an extension to do the same, you don't need the exact one I have.
I've read someplace that when using an extension on a torque wrench, the value must be re-calculated. If so, how is this done? Thanks for the great tutorial.
Thanks for the guide, this is by far the best one I've seen on UA-cam for this engine model. Everything is concise and professional. Since the 30K replacement interval is due to the use of shorter-life copper plugs, would iridium plugs be suitable to leave in for 60K to even 100K miles? Iridium plugs are advertised to last that long under normal conditions. I would assume you easily can, unless that specific engine model somehow causes the gap to widen quicker than other models?
Do you ever need to replace the coil packs? I don't have any lights on but it has a rough idle and don't think my plugs are making the correct combustion. Too rich or lean idk. Also coming for a dodge hemi to this, so idk how it shld run. Gave it a full fuel injector flush with seafoam, gained some more mpg, but the rough idle is still there. Coming up for a oil change and gonna flush the oil crankcase with seafoam as recommended also.
