@@maxdangle1 I had to nope out of G&G because it literally HURT my ears to listen to it - I don't revisit Purple a lot for the same reason. But this - this is what those albums could have sounded like. This is like the mixing of Red Album and those two albums' songwriting.
@@paulsawchuk9934 Someone ripped the live show they did where they played the entire record and it sounds SO much better. I wish they’d do an official release of that.
Seriously. Angular, exciting, and some awesome uncomfortable moments as it develops that adds great tension. Just killer. Stoked that Gina got to lay down some shred. It adds such an awesome vignette-within-a-vignette aspect to the song. Man. Wow.
It feels to me like they tried to capture the sound of their live recordings, the low mids pulled back and even Gina is more forward in the mix. It's beautiful
All the colors and sounds of Baroness in one song. What a fucking wonderful song. You have set the bar very high and I am looking forward to hearing the full album. The guitar solo has really blown my mind, it goes from good to better 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼
While cliche, my day was going to crap but this really gave me a badly needed lift. Gina's playing is an incredible addition to the band, as well as her voice. Looking forward to the shows!
Brilliant from the first to the last note. I feel there's a lot of confidence in every musician's performance here. I don't know how to put this into words. It all feels very "forward". I love it!
I got "Red" album vibes from the beginning. Then the rest of the song is just the perfect moulding of everything that the band has done. Excited to hear the entirety of the album, which will no doubt be brilliant
As I said in another reply, the opening had me thinking of First/Second and Grey Sigh eras. As I hear the song progress, I hear hints of Blue and the Gold half of G&G.
So cool to have Gina's vocals a little more up front. Their voices meld wonderfully. I kept re-listening to the guitar solo. Love the tone and phrasing.
what a riff! what a beautiful guitar solo! and the double voices? amazing! what a powerful bass! what a fantastic rhythmic lead of the drums! Long Live Baroness!
As someone who originally became a fan of their sludgy origins, the thing about Baroness that always impressed me the most is that while most bands shift genres to sell out, it really felt like they were breaking out instead. Like they had incredible songwriting ideas that just couldn't be confined to one sub-genre of metal, or even necessarily metal at all. One of the extremely rare cases where I love every era, and that doesn't seem to be changing anytime soon.
John said in an interview fairly recently something about wanting to turn over those stones that haven't been turned over yet. Some may work and some may not. I like the idea that they are really trying to branch out and try new things. Things that haven't been done yet or aren't done often.
I'm a big fan of Baroness's rhytm section - Sebastian Thomson with Nick Jost both always do amazing work and make big platform for beautiful guitars of John Baizley and Gina Gleason. I'm waiting for the 15th of September!)
Those subtle guitar leads through the chorus amidst the frantic and relentless bass and drums, atmospheric rhythm guitar, and gut-wrenching vocals - just perfection. Face-melting guitar solo, riff that gets deeper with each listen, heavenly outro - so much to chew on in this song and I can't get enough of it!
I'm so glad Gina joined the band. She's an amazing guitarist AND her voice perfectly compliments John's. This song is fucking rad. Can't wait for the album!
My journey started with Yellow and Green. Love the entire catalog and kick myself eternally for not checking them out earlier when I was a late teen with Blue coming out around then. But, I'm still glad to be a fan. I absolutely adore to death First/Second and Grey Sigh, along with Red. Onward from that is just as good and innovative!
The solo on here is an absolute banger. Beginning sort of tricks you into think it isn't going to be with the repeated sort of scale bit and then it smashes into that almost neo-classical part. It is impossible to listen to without rewinding...
this is the perfect backdrop for more stories to be told. the video reminds me of how plants can perceive us (with sound/light) and gives me the feeling that the land around my house knows some secret STUFF I don't want to remember
I just heard this on liquid metal. Cant wait for new album. John, if your reading this, this is Thomas. We worked together at Olive Garden in 2002 in Savannah. I remember you told me about a band you were in and everything.
no way!!!!!!! holy shit, nice to run into you again. that job.... hahahahahah. backbreaking busboy work, and as a musician, i've worked in a ton of restaurants, but never as brutally as at the OG
So ready to see Baroness live. I remember reading about them in a one page Washington DC newsletter in the early 2010s and decided to look for them at a music store. I bought The Blue Album and my life changed. Thank you Baroness for the great music and amazing live experiences.
Baroness was THE musical discovery of 2022 for me. Such great songwriting, so much power, such a distinctive and unique sound. I am so much looking forward to the new album!
What a wonderful song. Gina's solo is in line with Rhoades / E Lee, simply jaw dropping. The outro reminds me of classic edge playing from U2 which is awesome.
Heard this a while back on XM radio and made a mental note to check them out and I'm glad I finally did. My new fav band. Guitar playing is top notch. Bass player is incredible. Drums are killer. Vocals are perfect. Best band I've heard in a long time.
The buildup from 3:18 into the distorted guitar harmony then into the vocal harmony/passagio/slow melody part back to the chorus...Gah damn Baroness, I'm gonna listen to that for breakfast cause it taste so gooood.
This is absolutely wonderful! Baroness is in my top 5 artists of all times for a reason. Not only that but this announcement could not have come at a better time for me, as I've had a string of unfortunate events envelop me. I'm genuinely so looking forward to the new album. Gold & Grey is one of my all time favourite albums full stop.
this is a good day
I been waiting!!! Exciting day
Perfect.
This is the way.
I’m just happy you can hear the guitars again
Dude, I dismissed Baroness for like 7 years until I saw them live because of how bad the mix was on the recordings.

Such crazy musicianship. Gina-Era Baroness is next level.
It sounds so different from the early red and blue albums that I just can't get into it. Mostly the vocals just don't do anything for me
Gina is a monster of metal, 100%

🔥🤘🔥
Reminded me of the First/Second and Grey Sigh eras!
Jesus, that guitar solo is the best solo I've heard in years. So glad to have y'all back!
It's average at best. Standard scale wankery
Anybody know if that’s John or Gina?
@@Foxywaterable I don't, but I would put my money on Gina.
I’d have to say that it is the most raw and forward mix guitar solo I have ever heard.

I'm grateful the mix has some breathing room this time around, it sounds great, as does the song. I'm excited for more, thanks Baroness.
Now, if we could just get the last two albums remixed and remastered, everything would be great....
It feels to me like they tried to capture the sound of their live recordings, the low mids pulled back and even Gina is more forward in the mix. It's beautiful
Yeah. Mix is just the way it's meant to be for our hungry ears!
I preferred the aggressive sound tbh
@@cavezombie83 they do sound awful. This one still sounds odd/loud, but we'll see....
That was everything I had hoped it would be. Pounding, pulsing, relentless, soaring, screaming, bloody, brilliant, and beautiful. Thank you.
Thanks, Rich!

Gina’s solo gives me strong Randy Rhoads vibes. Fucking awesome song.

Even the tone.
More like Brett Hinds actually...but I get it.

This can't sniff a fart from Red, sorry.
Maybe its just me, but for me the Red album is their best sounding album, great production.
Proof the telecaster can master every genre
Not crushed in mastering. Nice. Good song after a long hiatus. Thanks!

Love this band.
Best teeth in heavy music.
The whole track is a banger but Gina's backing vocals are just MWAH *chef kiss* 😚👌
True skill doesn't need power, but when a talented team lean into it as an expression of their art, it's a sublime result.
what a riff!
what a beautiful guitar solo!

what a powerful bass!
what a fantastic rhythmic lead of the drums!

I love how everyone in the band just gets to shine in this song in a very elegant way. This is such a cool mix of styles, can't wait to hear more!
Thank God it's all coming back.. For real rock and metal. It's been so long thank you thank you.
Who was the mastering magician on this? It's utterly brilliant how much separation and room each instrument has...
