Waaaay better sounding then the last album imo- the production on that was horrible and there were just too many songs that weren’t very strong- so far these two new ones are pretty good
This!!!! Was always a fan of sludge and prog. But these guys just sort of missed me somehow. Then I heard the Shock Me solo... instantly thought of Thin Lizzy. Been in love since.
@@dirtbagdaryl You familiar with the Blue Record , First and Second, or the Red Album. ? Their sludgiest albums IMHO. War Wisdom and Rhyme murders 🤘! Edit - Morning star was the standout on Purple for me
I really got into Mastodon in the early 2000’s. Then I came across Baroness. What a fantastic band. The drum and bass support is phenomenal. Lyrics and guitar are the cherry on top.
It's like The Doors and Mastodon got together and jammed the fuck out!! Baroness are and always will be one of the most unique and interesting bands out there.. 🤘😁🤘
Baroness have great harmonies that are reminiscent of Queen, Thin Lizzy etc... aside from buying the red album based on the art, this is the second thing that hooked me on 'em
I tried to give this a proper listen at work , but immediately stopped it when I heard the spoken word portion. It was a complete “WTF” moment and warranted an uninterrupted, at home listen. Glad I waited. It feels fresh, but familiar in all the right ways. Can’t wait to shout along to this one in Detroit!
Much as Baroness is one of my forever favorite bands (Red Album got me through a thing or two), I can kind of see why they don't have *quite* that wide appeal. People aren't necessarily patient enough for the journey through their excellent music.
Evil intro, gnarly riffs, exciting harmonies, unique and unsettling verse vocal, beautiful chorus with acoustic embellishments, rhythm section as tight as ever, more sick riffs, angriest vocals in a hot minute, classic uplifting dual solo, triumphant outro, fascinating video. So thoroughly impressed by what this band has become. Unreal. ❤
It's been 2 weeks and I can't stop looping this song and 'Last Word´. The evolution of this band is simply amazing. The end had such chlorine and wine feeling, gave me the chills
The click of the lock The chime of the bell The groaning of timber And the etchings in my cell There's marks on the pavement There's chalk on the floor The choir invisible is knocking Knocking Knocking Knocking I wanna lie to you and tell you this is over I want to say this is for the best But when you're hanging from the rafters in my attic You know I'll never let you down This is not the hill that we die on Blood beneath the rose And now I'm caught between the thorns And I can't stop bleeding I've made a habit spilling secrets that I shouldn't But I've got holes between my teeth I wouldn't say I do this for a living I do my best to earn my keep This will not be the cross that we bear Blood beneath the rose And now I'm caught between the thorns And I can't stop the bleeding Everything you have And everything you need Everything is broken and The rest was meant to be I know this isn't easy but it's better late than forever You've got copper and clover on the back of my tongue I got the dust from your armor in my lungs And the choir invisible comes knocking, knocking
My Lord! This band is incapable of producing a bad album. Seb and Josh killing it too on both new tracks so far. Drums are so clear and crisp! Bravo Baroness. Can't wait to hear the rest.
I dig it. Little bit different take than the comments I've parsed, though: I'm hearing a lot of 1980's thrash in the verses, with that gigantic Southern Melodic Sludge on the chorus. Like 1985 Megadeth meets 2015 Mastodon. It's not pastiche, though- the result is like a fully realized prog version of what a lot of early 2000's Post Hardcore bands were aiming at. That is- wholly unique, brutally heavy and beautifully harmonized music that defies all playlist attempts. I know, I know, real hot take, here, but this is why I'm a fan of Baroness- superiority through thoughtful savagery.
this feels so much like a fully realized melding of older and newer Baroness in ways that make use of the tension between the intensities of all the kinds of parts, and playing styles. Holy shit.
The sound quality of this song is 10000 times better than in Gold & Grey and in the Purple album. No audible distortion and brickwalling at all. Great work Baroness! Can't wait for the whole album.
I think I'm in the minority thinking that Gold & Grey's production style was kind of cool and weird and different. It was I think meant to sound like broken electronics. That album is one of their most experimental, and I think people will look back on it better in the future. It feels like a psychedelic dream from start to finish, telling a strange abstract story that doesn't make any sense. And the weird production kind of fits aesthetically, for me.
God damn that last minute or so of the track was just VISCERAL. Whatever inspired this track... that shit was real and it shows in the performances. WOW.
As much as I loved their more mellow work in the last ten years, seeing a new Baroness single release and opening with that riff got me nostalgic for the Red/Blue days.
I'm enjoying the callback to Baroness older days from Blue Record. The song "O'er Hell and Hide" comes to mind. Baizley is an awesome writer! I'm super pumped for the new record!
I was 31 when I started listening to Baroness. I first heard The Blue Record and was completely blown away by what I heard and felt. I'm 45 now and Baroness has been around some important moments in my life. I'll be seeing them for the first time in November here in Montreal and I cannot wait. Have all the albums and am gonna enjoy adding "Stone" to the collection.🤘❤💙💛💚💜🧡🤍
Baroness at one point in my life was my favourite band. Around the Red and Blue albums. I haven’t been following them much the last 5 years. This is good.
Really stunned by the twists and turns (and the overall weirdness) of this song. Can't wait for the new record to drop! I'm sure it will be full of surprises. You guys (and girl) rock! Greetings from Colombia.
The song is awesome. This should have been the first single although I know why it wasn’t due to the different singing approach at the top. And for the record, I am extremely elated with the production! This album will be in rotation.
This full-bodied example from Baroness presents hints of Idles and Rollings, thrashing overtones of Metallica, wrapped in tendrils of Thin Lizzy, swimming deserty bottom legs harken early Queens of the Stone Age, timed by a metronome that is as much Baroness' calling card as the haunting smoky vocals. Appalachia-inspired Rope Sect dominates the visuals. A+ Fully expect this to join Baroness's premier flight as a great. I think I'll have another glass..
This is the kinda song that I'm weirded out and not sure if I like on the first listen, but in a year from now I'll be goin "THEEEERE BENEATH THE ROOSE"

Baroness have to have one of if not the most interesting arc in modern metal. Between member changes, life changes, and everything in between. I'll agree that G&G had its transitory feeling but the resulting growth is a marvel to behold.
Not trying to say anything negative, but does anyone else hear Glacial Pace by Converge in the intro? Or is it just me? Either way, love the new album!
I think that Baroness is the last metal act to propose something different, ith a somewhat prog rock flavor; that's why I'm quite fond of them. I'm not sure if they have played in Mexico yet (I just found them a few years ago) but I would really like to watch them live.

Randomly heard this on Sirius xm that came with a car I just bought. Never heard of them before but this is definitely good
The click of the lock
The chime of the bell
The groaning of timber
And the etchings in my cell
There's marks on the pavement
There's chalk on the floor
The choir invisible is knocking
Knocking
Knocking
Knocking
I wanna lie to you and tell you this is over
I want to say this is for the best
But when you're hanging from the rafters in my attic
You know I'll never let you down
This is not the hill that we die on
Blood beneath the rose
And now I'm caught between the thorns
And I can't stop bleeding
I've made a habit spilling secrets that I shouldn't
But I've got holes between my teeth
I wouldn't say I do this for a living
I do my best to earn my keep
This will not be the cross that we bear
Blood beneath the rose
And now I'm caught between the thorns
And I can't stop the bleeding
Everything you have
And everything you need
Everything is broken and
The rest was meant to be
I know this isn't easy but it's better late than forever
You've got copper and clover on the back of my tongue
I got the dust from your armor in my lungs
And the choir invisible comes knocking, knocking
