Ford puts this system in all their "quality" vehicles so you have to buy a new solenoid or starter "every" time the battery is changed out. This kind of problem never occurs except when it's time for a new battery.
Thank you!!!!!! This worked for me!!!! I have a 2005 Ford Focus that I use on the farm and I watched a lot of other videos on trying to fix the anti-theft issue, but nothing seemed to work for me. I finally found the original Ford Focus key and it started right up. Thank you again.
To reset the Ford 500 anti-theft system, begin by removing the positive terminal cable from the battery, place the key in the car and switch it to the on mode, then fix the positive cable, turn the key off and then reset the alarm. This can reset the anti-theft system so that it is now available to start the car properly. Often this can be triggered by replacing the battery or by draining the battery from the power supply. This may also be triggered by the pass lock sensor being defective, which would cause the anti-system to go off and prevent the car from running. If you have access to an OBD diagnostic tool, you can also use it to reset the anti-theft device.
I have a ford five hundred 2005 limited and tye battery on my car died. After I changed the battery, the horn started to blare and the engine wasn't starting. Apparently, it was an issue with the passive anti theft system and it wasn't allowing it to start. The solution is whenever you change the battery on this car one is supposed to take off the positive terminal off and then another person needs to sit in the car and hold the key to start the engine while pressing a small black switch which is under the left side of steering wheel near driver's left knee, at the same time when you try to start it another person need to connect the positive terminal and the car will start. The dealership asked me to tow in the car and said they will charge 200$ for it. Additionally, before I put in the new battery, when I jump started the car, I saw all kinds of lights like check engine, check transmission, check charging system and now after changing the battery and doing the above steps all lights are gone and car worked fine and I hope it keeps driving fine.
thanks for the info, it was worth a shot to try this on a 2001 ford windstar but i didn't see any button near the left knee area but still tried your steps and the alarm kept going off like crazy. so frustrating but hopefully i'll be able to figure this out before requiring to have it towed to a mechanic.
@Darklord 2 the code I'm getting is only a 2 digit code. I have a diagnostic tool, but when I connect it there arent any codes being shown. That said, the anti theft light blinks out a code after a minute or so that blinks in this pattern: 1 blink the. 4 slow blinks. A fault code 14 supposedly means the PATS is only getting a partial code from the key
PATS SECURITY FLASH CODES 1 then 1 (11) - Transponder Antenna (ignition coil) has no power. Remedy - Fuse or replace faulty Antenna 1 then 2 (12) - Antenna Fault Remedy - replace faulty Antenna 1 then 3 (13) - Key in ignition is not a PATS key Remedy - replace with correct key 1 then 4 (14) - Partial code from key received Remedy - Check transponder for damage (usually seen with Glass transponders) 1 then 5 (15) - Invalid key code Remedy - Use programmed key or program key 1 then 6 (16) - CAN Communications error Remedy - Usually this is a blown PCM fuse but can be caused by faulty wiring / control module 2 then 1 (21) - Not enough keys stored in memory Remedy - Program additional keys. Most Ford from 2001 are 2 key system so must have a minimum of 2 keys programmed. Earlier systems must have 3 keys programmed. 2 then 2 (22) - Initialisation / Configuration missing Remedy - This code is rare but when seen it usually requires a faulty module replacing as if it was misconfiguration code would be 23 2 then 3 (23) - PCM & PATS modules do not agree Remedy - This is very common on the earlier Diesel systems especially Transit. Realignment of the modules is required with Ford IDS or capable tool.
My problem was a cheap usb port in the 12 v plug in…. No joke.. it was causing a short and ever since I stopped keeping that plugged in I have not had a single issue.
I had this issue on my 2005 mustang, I tried the 10-15 min ignition trick and checked for any blown fuses and was watching videos on reprogramming my keys again but it turns out my battery was to old and was tripping some sensor.
The ignition requires a chip in the key for it to start. If you get a replacement key, you have to go for a special key for that make and model. A regular key won’t work.
No my car is starting great.I have just seen a lot of videos on UA-cam of people having ford starting problems and don’t check the theft system. So I thought I would make a video to help people out.
If you have a ford explore from the years 2002/2005 and 2006/2008 as well as a ford expedition/ F150 from the years 2004/2008 the theft light is located near the wind shield where the automatic head light sensor is located. Also if your vehicle has a digital odometer if your theft system is triggered the odometer will show little dashes instead of the milage.
My pcm went out got another got programed ran for 4 hours pats 🔐 up the engine, then started seeing door ajar it 🔐 the engine up again changed it and still up there do you have any ideas
I pulled that fuse on my 08 Frontier once and lost it. It wouldn't do anything after that. So I figured out it I run a little wire across to the other prong it thought it had the 3 prongs and not the 2 in a roll like all the other fuses. Then I went a got the 5 prong and a extra one. Those alarm systems have a reset trick you can do to reset them. And no it's not count to three and turn the key. 😂 That only works on my dog's. 🤨🙀😉Oh and it's a relay but has a fuse that goes along with other things that could blow it but never has. Bring me that peace of wood so I can knock on it. 🐶 1 , 2 , works every time. 3 🙂
I have a 2009 ford mustang and I parked home and left and locked my car but when I tried to go, the light came on for the first time (for me at least) and now my car won’t start :( I am using the actual key - the one I’ve always been using - and suddenly this happened. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated!
It's Ford just fucking you over as per usual, get a scan tool to make sure your body control module and powertrain control module are working properly, make sure your passlock system isn't fucked up and your keys not worn down to far Become proficient with that scan tool and you can charge people half of what Ford does n steal some business
What pisses me off is im dealing with this on my fathers 2001 pickup and the damn Ford dealerships say its too old for them to work on. I call Malcom Cunningham Chevy and they said they dont care how old my Chevrolets are, they will work on them. Aint that some sh*t. Well, looks like im done buying fords, because they wont repair them after 20 years. Some things are dealer items only.
Hey thank you I checked 18 and bad then removed right side tail light and drained water dried plugs drain water sealed were water was getting in . Thanks again😊
Hope you got it fixed. Before I reset my alarm by watching a UA-cam video. My truck would t crank till I lock the door lock. 😅 Or sometimes had to lock it with the key bob before I cranked it up . 🤔 Weird but it worked. Not much to reset it once you see the video. Kinda like resetting the oil change light once you change the oil.
Should be called anti-owner start system.

My radio still works and my anti theft light is flashing.. the sequence of blinks after about a minute is 1 blink followed by 4 slow blinks
zenithmanuals.com/ford-anti-theft-system-pats-fault-codes/. Here is a link that will tell you what the code is.

Okay and what about a 2007 ford Fusion sedan 4 cylinder?
Set your parking brake and release it. This worked for me. Manuel page 194 or 198. Reset car. Ans turn everything off.
