Bernie Sanders is a Democratic candidate for President of the United States. He is serving his second term in the U.S. Senate after winning re-election in 2012 with 71 percent of the vote. Sanders previously served as mayor of Vermont’s largest city for eight years before defeating an incumbent Republican to be the sole congressperson for the state in the U.S. House of Representatives. He lives in Burlington, Vermont with his wife Jane and has four children and seven grandchildren.
Bernard “Bernie” Sanders was born in Brooklyn, New York, to immigrant parents and grew up in a small, rent-controlled apartment. His father came to the United States from Poland at the age of 17 without much money or a formal education. While attending the University of Chicago, a 20-year-old Sanders led students in a multi-week sit-in to oppose segregation in off-campus housing owned by the university as a Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) officer. In August of 1963, Sanders took an overnight bus as an organizer for the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee to hear Martin Luther King Jr.’s historic “I Have a Dream” speech firsthand at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.
After graduation, Bernie moved to Vermont where he worked as a carpenter and documentary filmmaker. In 1981, he was elected as mayor of Burlington as an Independent by a mere 10 votes, shocking the city’s political establishment by defeating a six-term, local machine mayor. In 1983, Bernie was re-elected by a 21 point margin with a record amount of voter turnout. Under his administration, the city made major strides in affordable housing, progressive taxation, environmental protection, child care, women’s rights, youth programs and the arts. In 1990, Sanders was elected to the House of Representatives as the first Independent in 40 years and joined the Democratic caucus. He was re-elected for eight terms, during which he voted against the deregulation of Wall Street, the Patriot Act, and the invasion of Iraq.
In 2006, Sanders defeated the richest man in Vermont to win a seat in the U.S. Senate as an Independent. Known as a “practical and successful legislator,” Sanders served as chairman of the Committee on Veterans’ Affairs where he authored and passed the most significant veteran health care reform bill in recent history. While in the Senate, Sanders has fought tirelessly for working class Americans against the influence of big money in politics. In 2010, he gave an eight-and-a-half hour filibuster-like speech on the Senate floor in opposition to extending Bush-era tax breaks for the wealthy. In 2015, the Democratic leadership tapped Bernie to serve as the caucus’ ranking member of the Senate Budget Committee.
Known for his consistency on the issues, Senator Sanders has supported the working class, women, communities of color, and the LGBT community throughout his career. He is an advocate for the environment, unions, and immigrants. He voted against Keystone XL, opposes the Trans-Pacific Partnership deal, wants to expand the Voting Rights Act, and pass the Equal Rights Amendment.

+Chris Money Jewish people and black people have gone through two of the most horrible events in history as the main targets. A large part of Sanders' family was murdered in Auschwitz by Nazis. Just because Sanders has not experienced the pain of this type of discrimination doesn't mean he can't sympathize with victims. Also, the Garner family had total creative control over this project. Sanders did not reach out to them to make this.

I can. My two month old daughter starved to death while her mother enjoyed a meth binge she afforded by selling every item of value from my house. I did not even know I had a daughter until I found out she was dead.
I am not black though, so no one cares that my 2 month old daughter starved to death without ever meeting her daddy, no one cares that my daughter died because I could not afford to fight back against a broken system that preys on the poor. The district attorney would not file charges against her even with a letter from a witness who saw her leave the house without my daughter on Friday, and not return until Monday.
My daughter didn't even get the chance to say "help me". And no one cares. I don't get to be on the news and spread my message. I just get to fall asleep every night thinking about how horrible her death was, and how it could have been prevented if I had the money to fight back against a for-profit fast food amalgamation we call the Justice Industry.
But black people are the only ones suffering. Right?

The difference between this campaign and Hillary's is staggering. It's not even close. Hillary's campaign is all about how we can get a rich white woman into office because she feels like she's listened to all the polls and all the protests and now at long last knows exactly how to feel about stuff.
Bernie's campaign is about how we can get the American people into office, because they're done with polls and they're done with protests. They're done with politicians who tell them that there's a ceiling to their dreams, and that they should trade their ideals in for pragmatism. They want action. This video literally made me cry. Mr. Garner's daughter and granddaughter, Trayvon Martin's family, Tamir Rice's family, Sandra Bland's family, and thousands of other families should NEVER have to experience this. The systematic racism and police brutality happening today in America is evil, and it must be stopped. As a white male growing up in Arkansas, I've seen a disproportionate number of my black friends, classmates, and neighbors end up in jail, prison, and the cemetery. I'll never know what it is like to be a person of color, but I know the hatred, prejudice, brutality, and apathy that I've witnessed with my own eyes. This issue isn't some foreign issue, it personally effects me. I don't trust Hillary Clinton to really stop this, she and her husband instituted the private prison industry and the "tuff on crime" policies that have unfairly affected people of color. Absolutely. And here we are 4 years later in the SAME SPOT. I hope people see that even if it doesn't "involve" them closely that we are privileged just by the color of our skin and want to take steps towards justice and equality in 2020

I want it to be known that I did vote for Hillary in 2016, and although I did support Bernie during the primaries, I will be voting for Biden in November; because even though Bernie was my first choice, America can’t afford 4 more years of Trump.

Made the first political contribution in my life to the Bernie campaign. Never in a million year have I thought I would be touched by a campaign ad. I was wrong and I have always thought I was a conservative. The way Sanders' campaign can touch people's heart, especially the ones who has lost all faith in the political process, in the government, in the politicians.
