***** Do you really think the govt will be the most efficient health care provider? Do you really not know that no country with socialized healthcare has good access? Do you really want to provide good health care? If so don't you think we should examine our options? Nope. You are just going to insult anyone who disagrees with you, while being self-righteous about how much nicer you are than they. All you socialists are demagogic bully tyrants, aren't you?
+paulaegraham From all your comments I can only suggest that you find a library very quickly and start reading something other than the bible. Philosophical thought creates enlightenment not religion. As history has proven time and time again.
Bodicea 1 I guess you don't read much philosophy do you? Your diatribe only shows what a small minded hateful person you are. All due respect, I would guess I read more and more widely than you.
i am a conservative Christian and I LOVE Sanders. Yes, we may disagree on certain issues but there are way more important issues that are destroying America (poverty, Income inequality, unemployment, etc.). I wish more Christians would wake up, GREED and oppression of the poor are SIN! Our president's job is to run this country for ALL of the people.
Agreed! The issues that we disagree on for religious reasons probably should not be part of the political discussion. Those who have to wear their religion as their political platform probably are not serving the people, just trying to attract voters who agree with their religion. Did Jesus not say that wearing one's faith on their sleeve means you have gotten your reward already? That if you would have a relationship with your God, you should go alone into a quiet room, not shout in the street about your beliefs?
I have a real problem with, so called, Christians who sit there shaking their heads at the idea of helping their fellow countrymen if they fall on hard times. Do they really think, if Jesus came back, he would be on their side of the debate?!
Totally teared up. As a liberal coming from a religious family, I'm all for anybody willing to cross the aisle and bring people together. This is what a president is about. He's not forgetting about any of us. #feelthebern #berniesanders2016
+JyByrd Jybyrd Interesting. I just studied Democratic-Socialism in Western Europe and it seems to work really well. Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, United Kingdom, Finland, Iceland, Netherlands, Luxembourg. They all invest their taxes heavily in education and healthcare. Wow how "evil". You're still stuck in the Cold War, bud.
+JyByrd Jybyrd There are more colors to that concept than just black and white. Bernie was not lying when he said that the US is the only major country without healtcare as a right or paid maternity leave. This works and has not driven Europe into tyranny or communism.
+Ryan Sandoval No, it doesn't. All of those countries are dying the slow death of demographic winter. They refuse to reproduce, and are aging rapidly without having kids. They also have sluggish economies which pale in comparison to the USs. US GDP stomps them into the ground. And their taxes are often *50%* or higher. As question raptor once said, "If slavery is taking 100% of someone's income, at what percentage is it not slavery?"
I love how he says something that you (basically) cannot disagree with, and the camera pans to people with crossed arms and disgusted looks on their faces. Really though? "Feed the poor" -pans to grumpy students.
So you think people shouldnt have access to education and healthcare? Im not stating they disagree with his policies of how to do it. That I can understand disagreeing with. I dont understand how one could not agree with higher education and healthcare for all in general.
Also no one believes any of this is free. We're (bernie supporters) are happy to help out those who need it. You might find this thing called The Bible useful in guiding your morals.
+Benjamin Bobo The fact is if you all (bernie supporters) were truly happy helping out those who are in need, there wouldn't be a problem. We live in a free constitutional republic as i assume you are aware of. What you all ant is much different than that, you want the government by force come with swat trucks and take what isn't theirs(THI.R.S.)!! That will destroy our economy, just like every other country that has ever tried it. Socialism dose not work! How do you suppose we got to be the wealthiest country on earth as Mr. Sanders so eagerly points out.
First off its democratic socialism... and trump wants to bring in SWAT trucks. And have the most wealth, but yet we have one of the highest infant mortality rates, prison rates and disparity between rich and poor of any major country. Our standard of living is low compared to other democratic socialist countries. Check out sweeeden and noway and the like. Get educated.
Benjamin Bobo yea I'm for Rand Paul just btw not trump. democratic anything is dangerous, it is how all major civilizations end up wiping them selfs out. You see in a democracy only the majority have sovereign rights the minority have nothing.(two wolves and a sheep vote for what's for dinner type deal) in a republic we all have sovereign rights. get educated
@Bill Wilson MEDICARE FOR ALL~ $29,000.00 EXEMPT; 4% ON ANYTHING ABOVE; UNION CONTRACT THE HEALTH COST COMES BACK TO YOU AS WAGE INCREASE. NOT BOSS; THE BILLIONS SAVED FROM BIDEN'S 1000s OF INSURANCE COMPANIES IN OUR AFFORDABLE CARE ACT WILL GO TO RESEARCH & DISEASE PREVENTION, EDUCATION FOR ALL HEALTHCARE; HOME CARE, VISION, HEARING, LGBTQ, DENTAL, DRUG REHAB., MENTAL>>ALL HEALTHCARE LIKE THE OTHER 33 COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD ONLY BETTER!!
@@joebrooks3824 I am afraid that Our Bernies time has passed< he should be in his second term right now and this Nation would look and Feel a lot more EQUAL< I would vote for him for sure if he is on the Ballot< BUT we DESPERATELY need a Progressive Leader to Bring ALL Of Us Together and Bernie is Far too Busy now-a-days tho he tries!!
A Jewish sage preaches to a Baptist nursery about the savagery of America. Bernie does speak to me as an American and this man has a great heart and I loved the verse he used from Amos. My brothers and sisters in America it is time we let justice roll down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream!
6 years later, these words still induce goose bumps and move me to tears. The profound moral and spiritual crisis we in the USA find ourselves in cannot be overstated.
It’s tragic how Dr. King remarked a nation that spends more on military conquest than social uplift is approaching spiritual doom *over 50 years ago.* And that same nation has only moved further in that direction.
You're exactly right. This moves me to tears too. Bernie actually truly cares & he's the most caring public servant the U.S. has ever had. The system is rigged by the ultra wealthy to only benefit the ultra wealthy. We'll never have a fair country or world unfortunately. Thank you for supporting Bernie & his efforts for fairness & equality for all.
This man is such a missed opportunity for America, you’re not going to have someone else like this who could bring people together again in a long time. I used to think he was a crackpot nutter but in reality he is incredible and a true inspiration.
+ANTI- COMMUNIST Sanders wants corporations and Wall Street to pay for it. Conservatives don't want that though cause they don't care about anyone except white rich people.
+ChristophProbst Of course they do. They are not moral monsters. But what they recognize is that standing before them is a man who wishes to empower the federal government by feeding it almost unlimited amounts of money. If you want the poor to have a dollar, hand them a dollar via a low overhead charity. Don't give a dollar to the government so they can waste half of it, keep 25 cents for themselves and then hand a quarter back to the states for poverty relief.
+ChristophProbst *YOU'RE LYING* Not just lying, but *CHARACTER ASSASSINATING*. We want healthcare for the poor, but not Stalian-styled government controlled healthcare, because few get actual care in such systems due to perpetual shortages, and it becomes a legalized bribery system. Politicians say, "Vote for me, and I'll give you more of other taxpayer's stuff". That's immoral.
+Evan Oswald Look at the expressions on their faces - I've never seen such an audience filled with contempt. Too much brainwashing by their school and parents have poisoned their minds.
+Jeremy Horn You are a hate filled bigot. How do you know that every kid there is spoiled? How do you know that none of them have families that are sacrificing mightily so they can be educated. You don't. You are just a bigot.
+paulaegraham lol "hate filled bigot". Is this the GOP sheeps' attempt to avoid being called bigots themselves? Mabe if they blurt it out first they wont be able to be called out on their bullshit and inhumanity.
+based jol except if they don't tax the middle class and tax the shit out of the rich. Which was his entire speech, where did you hear him say we want to take more from middle class? majority of his speeches are about how the middle class is and has been failing, and needs to be helped, at the expense of the rich of course because the money needs to come from somewhere. Sorry but the way our economy works, it is rigged for the rich. I feel we should be taxing the crap out of rich people and not be giving these people huge tax breaks like we do today. Businesses with huge lobbying money changing regulations for their benefit like the tobacco industry for example.
based jol Sorry but in every single year I have been able to vote, there is either no one who wants real change or that person doesn't have nearly enough backing, here is our chance for real change. Not "change" like Obama promised and people believed as you can see in the history of our presidents, we are in a a streak of just constant shit presidents. Spending more and more on war, more presidents and politics being paid off by the wealthiest people in the world. Sorry but this is one of the extremely few times where we have chance to vote for someone who isn't backed by these people who obviously have no care about humanity, these people like Obama who decide its a great idea to spend millions and millions on tactical nukes and invade more countries. Sorry I'll side with the only candidate that won't invade more countries without having a just reason as every war we have done in the past decade has been unjust and bernie agrees and has voted no on the majority of these wars. I'll side with the person who has predicted the destabilization of the middle east and what this war has caused, he predicted it and said it in front of everyone and people just decided to do it anyways, why, because they profited money. This is a man who does not give a fuck about profiting money, he cares about helping people, human beings. Ill side with the man who wants to tax the rich more than other classes instead of giving these people tax breaks on their corporations. Sorry but to me it sounds like you are too scared of change and want to support the continuation of this insanely corrupt system and economy. Good day sir, you vote for what you want at the end of the day, my mind has been made since every other candidate is complete and utter shit and a continuation of the shit that this country has been for the past decade, unfortunately there is no "vote here to not have a shit government and be able to govern yourself and be able to deal with your state problems as a state and as a community".
Republicans are corporate Socialists. Bernie is a populist Socialist. Pick and choose your Socialist. I think I'll choose the populist. #feelthebern #Bernie2016
+Ryan Sandoval False. Republicans are Free-Market Capitalists Democrats are *Corporate Socialists* Bernie is a fascist. Fascists are Populist Socialists who are in favor of crony capitalism, like Sanders favors. That makes you a fascist.
+GreyWolfLeaderTW +GreyWolfLeaderTW Why are large PROFITABLE corporations getting paying NO taxes and in some cases getting a REFUND? How is that a free market when they keep passing legislation favoring big corporations? And if Bernie is for crony capitalism then why is he fighting to get money out of politics. Both Reb and Dem love crony capitalism. Those donors sign their checks. Bernie doesn't even have a PAC.
+GreyWolfLeaderTW You really should quit posting your misunderstandings on sites like this. Socialism isn't Fascist. Fascism is a blend of militarism, religion, corporatism, racism and nationalism. It has always been considered a right wing political ideology that has some elements of populism. Sort of like the modern Conservative movement. Germany, prior to and during WWII, was Fascist...not Socialist. Hitler, as a fascist, socialized nothing. Without the support of independent and free market corporations he would never have been successful. They all made billions on Hitlers wars. Crony Capitalism was rampant in that country and era.
+GreyWolfLeaderTW Right wing Fascist governments persecuted those who were unlike the majority populations. That included homosexuals, immigrants, Jews, Gypsies and many other non-Aryan, non Christian, groups and races. They opposed abortion and discouraged any method of birth control for German women. Kind of like modern Conservatives, (except for the Jews maybe) Many uninformed, or purposely ignorant, people confuse those radically different systems. Read a book sometime on history.
18:28 "When we talk about morality, what we are talking about is all of God's children, The Poor, The Wretched, they have a right to go to a doctor when they are sick." Camera pans to students looking like they think they should clap because of Jesus, but can't because of their politics.
+GregFromCos funny when that level of cognitive dissonance comes to light. People behave in mysterious ways to avoid change. Fear controls us, the wealthy elite have had that figured out for millennia.
+GregFromCos There *is no right* to going to a doctor when you're sick. The doctor has a right to be paid for his labor. You are in favor of *enslaving* the doctor without pay.
+GreyWolfLeaderTW Don't be absurd. I don't believe that and neither does Bernie Sanders. So sad that you have to create a total straw man to discredit someone.
+GreyWolfLeaderTW I'd like to see where you are getting that the Dr. would not get paid for services rendered. (But I do have an idea where you got it) I guess when someone has Medicare or VA insurance the Dr. doesn't get paid huh. Turns out we already have a socialist system. Oh wait, government is socialist by definiton.
Jason Brooks He doesn't get paid *when the government short-changes him* by offering sub-par payment for his services. This is why no one in Canada becomes a doctor, because it is all debt to become a doctor (eight+ years of college debts) with no payoff because the government is the only buyer of healthcare in town, and it offers crappy payments for services. Few doctors in the US take either Medicare or VA insurance because of how low the pay is for working for them. Then I say we *return to the government of the Founders*. If it is "socialist". Or abolish it entirely. No need for elitists in Washington running our lives for us.
I am fighting back tears all day listening to Bernie speak. I have been so disillusioned with the sorry state of the country we live into today, and Bernie Sanders is the only one who gets it. I was ready to give up any hope of reform. What a great human being. You have my vote.
I don't think anyone honestly thought he was going to bring the whole crowd at LU to his side. Geez the only reason he's less of an anti-Christ to them is because he isn't black like Obama. That said, it takes political courage to go to a crowd that disagrees with everything you stand for and say "this is what I believe and I'm not going to sugar-coat it nor try to wishy-washy moderate it". Besides, something like this is newsworthy and even in red states there are people voting in democratic primaries. Never a bad strategy, esp. when you have significantly less automatic name recognition. Hillary's strategy is same as in 2008: get the big states an some swing states and home the numbers coalesce.
+paulaegraham How are they a hate-filled bigot? Do you even know what a bigot is? Well let me enlighten you. A bigot is a person who is intolerant toward those holding different opinions. They didn't make s SINGLE comment that was bigoted OR hate-filled. As long as you're okay with name calling, let me play. YOU'RE AN IDIOT. While they may have used hyperbole, bigotry and hate was never applied. Wow...
Chris Daily Yes, dearheart, a bigot is anyone who thinks that people who are different than him/herself is inferior. So tell me how is this not hateful: "Geez the only reason he's less of an anti-Christ to them is because he isn't black like Obama." In other words they are saying that all Christians are racist and small minded. Or are you really not smart enough to get that?
Wrong, bigotry is about INTOLERANCE. They weren't being intolerant of any person or group. Don't use big words you can't understand. That statement is hyperbole: exaggerated statements or claims not meant to be taken literally. Now go away with your dumb self.
+rmyoung87 I wouldn't put them all into one category. I've read a few articles on his speech where quite a few of the university students seemed to give him considerable praise.
Bernie, you're incredibly inspiring. I admire everything you do. Thank you so much for being the voice of the people and not succumbing to establishment ideology for your own personal gain. You are a true American, and a true hero in my eyes.
I'm a social conservative. However, I put fiscal issues first. Income inequality is a problem. Clinton does not give two shits. Sanders does, I hope he wins the Dem primary.
+ANTI- COMMUNIST No it is not. Difference in income is not inequality. It is simple valuation of a person's job based on how valuable it is to the economy. The job of a computer programmer is worth much more than that of a janitor who cleans the crap out of toilets.
+GreyWolfLeaderTW no one has an issue with a computer programmer making five times what a janitor makes. What Bernie has a problem with is when there are Wall Street CEOs making 100 times what a computer programmer makes and 500 times their janitor makes, but still pays less of a percentage of income in tax because of loopholes in a system rigged to their benefit. There's inequality and there's what we have now, which is an oligarchy. You guys look at calls for a fairer society and in your fox news addled minds, immediately think of the USSR and Stalin. Wake up!
+GreyWolfLeaderTW yeah a person is sooo valuable for the economy when he gets born with millions in his pocket because his dad or mother earned billions because of exploiting the bank system. corruption is everywhere and your fantasy is not real, this system cant hold for too long.
I was brought to tears when he talked about Americans not going to the doctor when they first begin to feel ill. That was my mom. She let it go so long because she was worried about not having insurance until it was too late.
I know you say "in my view" for politeness sake Bernie... but it is really everyone's view, and you're the first politician in this whole campaign to say what everyone is really thinking. *Bernie 2016*
Wow. My jaw almost dropped when I heard around the 12 minute mark the wages people were getting over there in the United States. Really? 8 bucks an hour? That's crazy! I'm in Australia and even with the weaker aussie dollar, the minimum amount you could possibly earn here is still effectively DOUBLE. Just type "australia minimum wage" in Google and, well, chip off a bit of that 1% and get that gini coefficient less extreme. GO BERNIE!
I cry listening to this man because he is someone this country NEEDS at a time like this to make "America Great Again" #FEELTHATBERN #BernBabyBern #Bernie2016
+TheFireArmGuy .. I'm from Australia.. these ideas work fine, trust me. In fact if it wasn't for these idea's, I would not be becoming a doctor, and my wife would not be having maternity leave when our second child comes in 3 weeks. They. Work.
Bernie speaks the truth to anyone who will listen. Liberty University, Fox News, he goes to "conservative" audiences, and without compromising his leftist values, he gets them to listen. Such a wonderful speech. Listen to those fundies clap! Bernie can bring this country together.
It's so sad to see that "devout christian" and "hardcore republican" have become nearly synonymous. I give Bernie major props, even if that means convincing just one student to think twice about what to support.
While he doesn't have my vote, I applaud him for wading into the uncharted political waters of speaking to a packed crowd who opposes him on 90 or more percent of the issues. It's refreshing. More candidates need to take note of it.
+Joe Lackey As a Bernie Sanders supporter 100%, I appreciate your willingness to not dismiss him out of hand.. If more people were to listen to the opposing sides (Democrats are guilty of being just as stubborn in this regard) we could really get some productive discussion going where the best ideas from both sides can be used for a brilliant government.
noynoybaqui Dont know why Joe doesnt want to vote for him, but I wont vote for him because he is unable or unwilling to control the contempt and agressive hatefulness of his supporters. That makes him an ineffectual leader whos ideas will be abused and misused by those who CAN control the hatred and venomous spite of his fanatical followers. Just read through these comments and tell me these people wouldnt turn away in indifference to the suppression of 1st, 4th, 5th, 10th, etc Amendment Rights of political opponents and religious adherents? Tell me they wouldnt inform on their neighbor to get their property when theyre taken away? The base he seeks to empower is of greater concern than he is. This is precisely why references to murderous dictators is relevant. Hitler didnt do anything but talk. It was the ordinary people that alerted the authorities to the devious Jew next door hiding gold under his floor.
+Dangler 12 Who is suppressing you rights? Who is showing hatred? You are receiving scorn and vitriol because you make a dishonest and malicious portrayal of people and policies you don't agree with. You are constantly wrong, and you appeal to fear. Now you're worried about rights? Your are up for sale if capitalism is true. Do you care about my rights, to healthcare, to basic income and opportunity, to rights of poor and workers to get better pay, and basic services? Those rights don't matter to, what matters is some wild eyed speculation. And Hitler came to power because of economic collapse caused by capitalism. So it isn't Sanders you should be worried about.
Sanders is an ineffectual leader or he is a hateful bigot. He is unable or unwilling to control the hateful, agressively contemptuous message being spread in his name by his fanatical supporters. Just read the comments, here. Nothing but hate, recrimination and vile insult for whomever isnt already a Sanders supporter. Read the posts about this video - the students didnt stand and cheer on cue, so they are subhuman, stupid and unimportant. Is this how he hopes to gain enough votes to be President?
+Dangler 12 I've never seen any of the accusations of anyone being "subhuman" or "unimportant" because they don't support Bernie Sanders' message. I've also not heard anything in Bernie Sanders' message that says he's hateful or a bigot. I'd also argue against the claim that he's ineffectual, as he has done a lot to pass bipartisan legislation while a representative and senator, such as increasing VA funding. Furthermore, even if his supporters were doing these things, Bernie Sanders isn't exactly liable for what his extremist supporters are doing unless he is channeling a message of hate, which he's not. He's channeling a message of coming together and setting aside differences to fix real problems, which is exactly what he says in this video. So I have to say that you're mistaken on virtually everything you just wrote.
I'm saddened that so few people have appreciated Senator Sanders heart-felt and brave speech... Personally, I'm not completely with the guy on policy, but we do agree on much, and I understand his stances on the issues of which we do not agree. He is a good man through and through, and it is truly sad that so few people at least appreciate his thoroughly upright humanity.
I watched a video from the Roanoke Times where these students were interviewed on what they thought of the senator's speech. While there were obvious disagreements with some of Bernie Sanders' views and opinions, there was universal praise and appreciation for the intent which he came to speak with. Those of you who are skeptical of the student body's reception of Sen. Sanders' speech really should try to give them the benefit of a doubt; Bernie certainly gave them that chance, and I think we all should, too. #FeelTheBern
I'm on the far left and I agree with you. I'll even go one further, they were much more respectful than a liberal university would be of a conservative.
@@chamboyette853 If that Conservative spoke to them in a respectful way and made a Leftwing case for Conservative values, they'd give respect to that Conservative. But Conservatism today is almost nothing but Pwning Liberals as dickishly as possible. No, they wouldn't give respect to "Black people should pull up their pants and stop killing each other," and they wouldn't give respect to "What are you mooching losers going to do when you've spent all of the rich's money." Why would anyone? But that's the entire Conservative circuit. "We're really the victims, woe is us with all of our power and money, because people say mean things about us, get over yourselves losers and take your worthless place in the mines until you make enough money to have an opinion that matters. Now, let's put that aside and start talking about the War on Christmas and White Genocide." Yeah, that's never going to get respect from the Left.
I mean....we saw that the end, though. He was the featured speaker, spoke for 27 heartfelt minutes about his policies, and like 60% of the crowd just sat there in silence at the end and didn't applaud for him. He spoke about how poor people should be able to see a doctor and the crowd showed what I assume was a representative sample of contempt. They may have said afterward that they respected him going there, but I didn't see much praise or appreciation from the bulk of the crowd. I heard wild applause from about 15% throughout the speech, which are probably the Progressives that somehow decided to attend Liberty University.
@@inspectorvfan3393 The video uploader is telling on himself by disabling the comments there, because the student reaction was justified. The judge does have power over their lives and has ruled in a way that materially harms them--they have every rationale to yell at him and every basis not to want their tuition paying for him to spout propaganda that they know--from their own lived experience--is nonsense. His rights deserve respect (and were not in peril there), but his harmful actions deserve criticism and hostility. Conversely, Bernie didn't come to this talk with hostility for the students, he wanted to reach them with many of the same principles they already believe in. More than that, the POLICIES he represents are no material threat to them, they're actually massively helpful to them (and nearly all Americans). So they had no high ground to yell at him. You're caught up in the "hypocrisy about letting someone speak" game, which is a very lazy and misguided way to think about free speech (which doesn't apply in either case anyway). Really, it's about power and intent, and the oppressed speaking up in anger is not in any real way the equivalent to the oppressor speaking up in order to rub it in.
Major respect to Liberty University for having Senator Sanders speak. And kudos to Sen. Sanders for speaking at Liberty. America needs more of this!!!!
+GreyWolfLeaderTW you are entitled to your opinion. I back Bernie 100% hopefully the candidates will get some real public debates and the American people will have a fair uncorrupted election with high voter turnout. in that situation the candidate that best represents the majority of the American people will be selected
gp van eron It's not an opinion. It is a *fact*. Sanders is a bonified fascist. Fascism is defined as the political ideology which argues in favor of larger, more powerful national governments, with the retention of private property rights. If you could call progressive taxes that take so much of people's personal property "respecting private property rights".
+GreyWolfLeaderTW the fact is in a democratic society when there is reasonable voter turn out and a fair election the winner will be the that whom the majority of people feel is the best candidate. my vote will be for Bernie Sanders.
Senator Sanders this is truly a wonderful and insightful speech. Thanks for working so hard for all of us on cinching the nomination and winning this election. Please sir make sure that your voice gets proper care. You're such a passionate speaker inspiring all that hear your words. Great job! I look forward to calling you President Bernie Sanders.
Man we have a statesman here, not a politician. What a great human being this guy is. Vote for him America, because your choice affects us people who live in far flung countries oppressed by the military industrial complex originating from your country. This guys has the potential to change it all for us.
I am very used to Bernie's thesis statement, and I completely agree: all inequality in the U.S. is due to political willingness and can be reversed in the very same way. However, the beauty of this speech isn't on his progressive statements but on his rhetoric; Sanders understands his audience and expresses himself in a very compelling way. From bible quotes and leaving aside issues on which both sides clearly disagree, Senator Bernie Sanders deserves every single applause. If I were a English college professor, I would use this speech as textbook example.
+KyleBuschPackFan = Any place that doesn't believe in Evolution and thinks that The Flintstones was based on true events can not call itself a university and a place of higher education. At best it's a clown collage.
Vito Wash thats why usually universities and religions should be split, so corruption doesnt influence true scientists. every religious dumb nut would shout out when a political party would control a university, but when its their religious christian party they agree. liberty my left nut
Vito Wash What science class at LU teaches that the Flinstones actually happened, and, even if they don't teach evolution, it has nothing to do with helping mankind. Evolution is unstoppable and nearly impossible to control. Basically, it is useless to apply in the area of technology.
What an incredible orator.. that, combined with truth and compassion for all people and all ideologies makes for a great president. But beyond all of this is that he went into the mouth of the lion and won enormous respect because of his obvious concern for everyones views. This will only grow now. I am optomistic.
+ANTI- COMMUNIST That's exactly what I think. They actually agree on a couple things; one being the NSA's role and the 4th amendment. I agree with Bernie on some ideas, but what he is offering is grossly unrealistic. He needs to focus on healthcare, the paid maternity leave, and raising the minimum wage.
This man, a non-religious Brooklyn Jew, exemplifies the spirit of compassion, justice, forgiveness and concern for the "least" among us - the very same fundamental values taught by Jesus Christ. The ovation he received at the end tells it all.
I strongly supported Bernie, and I contribute to each of the three groups established in the wake of his campaign: Friends of Bernie Sanders, the Sanders Institute, and Our Revolution. I don't fully agree with his views on abortion, but I do greatly admire and respect his honesty and courage in expressing those views at Liberty University. That took real integrity. It was the real deal.
+surrealnumber Who worships the government? It seems that people just want a working government that has a clear purpose, is on the side of the people rather than financial institutions and hawkish war mongering think tanks. If you want to live in a theocracy. Convert to Islam and move to Saudi Arabia.
Isn't religion about espousing a set of beliefs which are a part of a cultural system in place that is held up by figureheads in order to understand the nature of the Universe? Socialism may not be your cup of tea but it is definitely not religion. To be sure there are many christians who support this candidate. How also do you know that I support this candidate? I like many things about a lot of candidates and actually I'm quite against government and religion. They have become to me, anathema to all life on Earth. The evidence is in the growing destruction of it and living things on it. So there. Visit Deep Green Resistance . com for more info.
+surrealnumber We can all wonder about these things I suppose, but we are on the verge of a global ecological collapse. These minor debates we engage in don't mean anything anymore.
+surrealnumber Yes war and poverty are bad for the planet but there are other pressing concerns which are not going to be solved at all by what we call the leadership of this planet. Human beings are terribly self-absorbed.
surrealnumber Ok I agree with you but there are other issues that I'm aware that are actually devastating to the carbon life cycle of planet Earth and to all living things on it and in the oceans that have been terrorized by industry and government. These things are foundational issues and transcend mere politics. Thank you. I'm sure many people worship your intelligence (just like you like them to I bet ;) My eyes have been open for a while now. Good luck!
+GreyWolfLeaderTW comments like that show your level of education on the matter. the Nazi party was far right fascism. come up with a better comment, and please do your homework this time
Jeremiah Leonard False Hitler was leftist. Pro-Abortion Pro-Big Government Pro-Union Pro-Cult of Personality (like Obama's) Pro-Social Welfare Pro-Public Works Pro-Centralized Economic Planning Those are *ALL* leftist positions The meaning of the acronym "Nazi", is National *SOCIALISTS* Worker's Party of Germany. It is right there in their name.
+GreyWolfLeaderTW Ask any Nazi supporter today and I gurantee you they will not say they are liberal or progressive. They are an extreme right wing group.
I've never been much into politics and there are plenty of parts to politics that I know nothing about, but now that i'm growing older and these types of issues will affect me as a working adult I'm really trying to educate myself by watching everyone's speeches.. Bernie seems like an honest, decent, open-minded man, and I really respect that. He seems to respect other religions and cultures and way of life. He seems like he really wants to help the people, such as myself, working three jobs just to get by. I often budget my money and I find it SO sad that when I wanted to buy curtains (before I got my raise) to cover my windows (so no one would see me changing in my own bedroom!) costing $12 at Walmart, it took me three weeks to buy three curtains. I only had $12 to spare each week for curtains. Dividing my paychecks among gas, food, car insurance, rent... it's hard. I have earned a few raises and my boyfriend recently got a higher paying job due to us expecting a baby in March. We are very fortunate for his new job, it makes me feel much more at ease with our expanding family. I really appreciate Bernie's outlook on expanding maternity leave. My friend recently had a baby, and he ended up in the NICU for nearly five weeks. Those five weeks she was there every single day to bond, hold, and feed the baby. By the time she was able to take him home, she would only have one week left of leave to adjust at HOME with her new baby, who needed oxygen and monitoring. She decided not to return to work because only having one week at home with a newborn baby is just impossible. Hell, staying at home for six weeks with a newborn baby just isn't enough time. Having 12 weeks gives us SO much more time to adjust and plan and learn our babies needs. Also the fact that if she were to return to work, she would make negative income by sending her child to daycare due to her being in the cut-off "middle class" wage. She's better off staying at home with the baby instead of working to pay someone else to take care of him. It's a difficult decision but it's what us lower-class are stuck making.
+based jol Hmm, will you refuse your "Free" stuff (Medicare and Social Security) when you retire, stud man. Oh yeah, as a Connie, I am sure you feel you deserve it.
TheShreyas95 well, maybe Bernie isnt ignorant, but if you peruse the threads for Bernie supporters' comments, youll see some profound ignorance and bigotry. They need these 'stupid Biblehumpers' and 'knuckledragging conservatives' votes, but they prefer to revel in their spite and contempt.
Oh my god I love Bernie and I’m so proud he goes to places that don’t agree with him . He’s just a great man it angers me greatly we couldn’t fucking elect this guy .
Many Americans, especially religious folk, are raised not to question things in life, but simply to follow traditions, like those expressed in the Bible. Those traditions and rules are simple to understand, which is good if you want millions of people to get along, but the very same simplicity that makes them dangerous when time comes for reformation. Because many religious people don't have much critical thinking capabilities, they simply react negatively to new ideas rather than be open to debate. That's the downfall of all empires in history. It comes down to teaching kids not just to think for themselves, but to think critically about the world we live in. A few Americans get what Sanders is trying to do, unfortunately many Americans don't have the mental capacity to think outside the box they were raised in.
This man is a breath of fresh air with a vision and also a sense of justice and morality lacking in the two major parties. I hope American voters will vote for him as the next US president.
This country sorely needs more politicians like Bernie Sanders and Ron Paul - men of character, wisdom and principle who are unafraid to speak their minds even in the presence of those who mock and doubt them. Who refuse to bully or dismiss their opposition, who even in disagreement draw their opponents to them through integrity and intelligence. Men with not the golden cadence of the salesman but the gravelly and honest voice of truth. I supported Ron Paul in 2012 and will support Bernie Sanders come 2016 - not because I agree with all he says, but because I respect him as a person and as a leader.
I have a horrible stomach virus and I'm a college student. Not much money so I can't go to the doctor and I really need a doctors excuse to make up work from school. Bernie is really speaking to a progressive audience and I hope everyone hears him out. Change needs to be made and I think Bernie is the one to do it
We need this guy badly. And no I'm not looking for a handout. I make over 100,000 per year, so I don't need any body's money. He seems so passionate and I don't think he will bow to the powers like Obama has done.
Thank you Bernie for all you've done throughout your entire tire life. Your ideas & legislative proposals are literally common sense. IMO you're the best, most caring, compassionate public servant the USA & probably the world. You're the best & I sincerely mean that.
I'm not surprised there weren't a lot of students clapping. Ya gotta remember that a lot of these kids grew up in a very religious environment. They won't be won over to someone who openly disagrees with two principals they feel strong about overnight. However, Bernie took a good step in getting them to look at his point of view. Honestly, if I were a devout Christian I'd be having a hard time trying to find my way politically: you have one party that goes against what the bible teaches on some social issues (abortion, gay marriage) and another which appears to be against other things Jesus taught (helping the destitute, not going out of your way to seek wealth, ext.)
How can students at a so-called "religious" university sit so hatefully stone faced when presented with moral dilemmas of this magnitude? Big respect for Bernie for speaking at, as their own website describes "The world's leading Christian university".
Our next President!! This is what an adult sounds like. We can agree to disagree on social issues and get to work on the issues that impact the middle and lower classes!
Proudly and fearlessly enters the Lions den. A man of integrity.
+average person A demagogic bully tyrant.
***** And you are so kind and loving, that I am stunned by your sweetness.
Ivar Tornado - I like you man. I like what you said even though I'm not religious.
BERNIE WON CALIFORNIA PRIMARY!! GO 2020 BERNIE SANDERS!
Sanders himself has said that we have way more in common with each other than we would ever know
Michael Sanchez yeah it does. Have u not read the Bible?
I have a real problem with, so called, Christians who sit there shaking their heads at the idea of helping their fellow countrymen if they fall on hard times. Do they really think, if Jesus came back, he would be on their side of the debate?!
Jesus was a socialist who hated the rich.
@@zurzakne-etra7069 They all know that Jesus is a convenient fiction for them.
+Jukka K Add that they get longer holidays as well.
+Terry Martin *gags
No, it is not. The job of a President is to faithfully execute the Constitution, not get all "hopey, changey, incusiey" on us.
Impressed by this speech. Took a lot of courage.

good job bernie, speak to not only those who agree with you but also those who don't!
King remarked a nation that spends more on military conquest than social uplift is approaching spiritual doom *over 50 years ago.*
And that same nation has only moved further in that direction.
He's still fighting for the working people, and against greedy billionaires in 2023. He's inspired millions! #NotMeUs

Thank you for realizing & caring for what Senator Sanders stands for.
Pause at 18:24 and see how the CHRISTIAN students don't support healthcare for the poor. That just blows me away.
+ChristophProbst They do. They just don't support government paying for it.
+ANTI- COMMUNIST Sanders wants corporations and Wall Street to pay for it. Conservatives don't want that though cause they don't care about anyone except white rich people.
+ANTI- COMMUNIST , who then pays for it.
+ChristophProbst *YOU'RE LYING*
Not just lying, but *CHARACTER ASSASSINATING*.
I'm glad somebody told these kids…
+Evan Oswald Doubt very many of them actually paid the least attention.
+Robert Slack as a father of 4…you'd be surprised what they hear while pretending not to.
+Evan Oswald Look at the expressions on their faces - I've never seen such an audience filled with contempt. Too much brainwashing by their school and parents have poisoned their minds.
+Milford Civic well put.
+Milford Civic they are not lost causes
these spoiled kids don't clap even at the most humane and logical statements
+Jeremy Horn You are a hate filled bigot. How do you know that every kid there is spoiled? How do you know that none of them have families that are sacrificing mightily so they can be educated. You don't. You are just a bigot.
+Jeremy Horn Not always spoiled. Just often *wanting* to be elite themselves.
Beautiful speech. As humans, we ought to show compassion to our fellow neighbors! :D
Republicans are corporate Socialists.
Bernie is a populist Socialist.
Pick and choose your Socialist. I think I'll choose the populist. #feelthebern #Bernie2016
+surrealnumber Did you just make a Hitler comparison? You're not being serious are you?
+Ryan Sandoval False.
Republicans are Free-Market Capitalists
Democrats are *Corporate Socialists*
Bernie is a fascist.
18:28 "When we talk about morality, what we are talking about is all of God's children, The Poor, The Wretched, they have a right to go to a doctor when they are sick."
Camera pans to students looking like they think they should clap because of Jesus, but can't because of their politics.
Jason Brooks
He doesn't get paid *when the government short-changes him* by offering sub-par payment for his services.
You have my vote.
heya, how’s it going after 8 years?
+rmyoung87 You are a hate filled bigot.
+paulaegraham How are they a hate-filled bigot? Do you even know what a bigot is? Well let me enlighten you. A bigot is
a person who is intolerant toward those holding different opinions.
+rmyoung87
I wouldn't put them all into one category.
And you still would have voted Trump(?)
@@presence5426 Yes. In 2016 and 2020. And I will vote for him again this year.

I'm glad he did this. The key to getting the right to work with us is its youth. He definitely needs to do more of this.
I was brought to tears when he talked about Americans not going to the doctor when they first begin to feel ill. That was my mom. She let it go so long because she was worried about not having insurance until it was too late.
It's a net positive for us to be civil towards each other. Thank you for hearing the man out, with respect.

GO BERNIE!

+Joe Lackey aaannnddd you wouldnt vote for him?? Cuz you wanna vote for a narcissist Donald Trump?
+noynoybaqui christians would rather have Christianity as the law with donald trump than have equality for everyone with bernie sanders
Bernie Sanders is a true leader. That's all that needs to be said.
+Nick Fane Yeah, lead you right to the poor house.
+jake bob How so?
+Nick Fane Jake is either a troll or someone that has no evidence and is uneducated so they have nothing else to say.
He is a good man through and through, and it is truly sad that so few people at least appreciate his thoroughly upright humanity.
we young people have got to show up and vote!
Brilliant. Walking right into the lion's den! Kudos to Bernie.
@@SteveGellerMusic compare that to how a conservative judge was treated in liberal Stanford Law School: ua-cam.com/video/QxQyztHuPjg/v-deo.html
The most reasonable thing to happen at Liberty "university" to date.
probably the only
Major respect to Liberty University for having Senator Sanders speak. And kudos to Sen. Sanders for speaking at Liberty. America needs more of this!!!!
This is the best and most important speech of the entire presidential race.
Bernie Sanders is awesome.
wow. amazing courage. Feeling the Bern
+gp van eron Feeling the berp. The dude is a fascist old-fart.
+GreyWolfLeaderTW you are entitled to your opinion. I back Bernie 100% hopefully the candidates will get some real public debates and the American people will have a fair uncorrupted election with high voter turnout. in that situation the candidate that best represents the majority of the American people will be selected
gp van eron
It's not an opinion. It is a *fact*.
Sanders is a bonified fascist. Fascism is defined as the political ideology which argues in favor of larger, more powerful national governments, with the retention of private property rights.
If you could call progressive taxes that take so much of people's personal property "respecting private property rights".
+GreyWolfLeaderTW You are an ignorant troll.
I so wish Bernie was President but very sadly it's not going to happen & it really breaks my heart.
I support Bernie Sanders, even if I know that not many people will support him in Arkansas.
I will still support him.
This is NOT a real university.
+Vito Wash Keep telling yourself that.I doubt you've even been to college.
as a european university student I agree.
+KyleBuschPackFan = Any place that doesn't believe in Evolution and thinks that The Flintstones was based on true events can not call itself a university and a place of higher education. At best it's a clown collage.
Vito Wash
thats why usually universities and religions should be split, so corruption doesnt influence true scientists.
every religious dumb nut would shout out when a political party would control a university, but when its their religious christian party they agree. liberty my left nut
So much respect for this man! #Bernie2016!
My President.
Donald Trump?
Fearless and unwavering.
Rand Paul vs. Bernie Sanders would be a win-win for America. Clinton vs. Bush would be a loss either way.
Rand Paul only Republican who isn't Establishment
Ron Paul v Bernie Sanders would be a win win
one of the best speeches I've ever heard him give
How sad that so many comments here are filled with hatred. What does this say about our religion today?
+surrealnumber
Who worships the government?
So there.

We can all wonder about these things I suppose, but we are on the verge of a global ecological collapse. These minor debates we engage in don't mean anything anymore.
+surrealnumber
Yes war and poverty are bad for the planet but there are other pressing concerns which are not going to be solved at all by what we call the leadership of this planet. Human beings are terribly self-absorbed.
surrealnumber
Ok I agree with you but there are other issues that I'm aware that are actually devastating to the carbon life cycle of planet Earth and to all living things on it and in the oceans that have been terrorized by industry and government. These things are foundational issues and transcend mere politics. Thank you. I'm sure many people worship your intelligence (just like you like them to I bet ;)
My eyes have been open for a while now.
Good luck!
Thank God for Bernie Sanders
I got butterflies listening to this
+Jeremiah Leonard Nazis from the 1930s called, they want their "happy feelies" back.
+GreyWolfLeaderTW comments like that show your level of education on the matter. the Nazi party was far right fascism.
come up with a better comment, and please do your homework this time
Jeremiah Leonard
False
Hitler was leftist.
Pro-Abortion
Pro-Big Government
Pro-Union
Pro-Cult of Personality (like Obama's)
Pro-Social Welfare
Pro-Public Works
Pro-Centralized Economic Planning
Those are *ALL* leftist positions
The meaning of the acronym "Nazi", is National *SOCIALISTS* Worker's Party of Germany. It is right there in their name.
+GreyWolfLeaderTW You are a stupid person spouting idiotic shit and definitely NOT a " leader ".
It's a difficult decision but it's what us lower-class are stuck making.
so much ignorance under one roof
+Brian Gould All from the guest speaker.
You're calling a man who attempted to find common ground with conservatives by entering their arena, ignorant?
+paulaegraham What is wrong with you... where do you get off saying things like that.
"It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."
I will never forget the Democratic Primary voters who rejected Sanders TWICE. We could have had this guy in the White House for 8 years.
This man is a breath of fresh air with a vision and also a sense of justice and morality lacking in the two major parties. I hope American voters will vote for him as the next US president.
Whether he wins or loses, we can only hope his work will result in a complete change for the better in Washington.
Don't forget to vote for Bernie in the primaries!
Presidential.
#feelthebern #Bernie2016
Change needs to be made and I think Bernie is the one to do it
This is stunning...literally "Daniel and the Lion's Den"
We need this guy badly. And no I'm not looking for a handout. I make over 100,000 per year, so I don't need any body's money. He seems so passionate and I don't think he will bow to the powers like Obama has done.
Thank you senator Bernie Sanders for the greatest speech ever!!✔️🇺🇸😷 You definitely make good common Sense!!👏👏👏👏
Thank you Bernie for all you've done throughout your entire tire life.
Your ideas & legislative proposals are literally common sense.
IMO you're the best, most caring, compassionate public servant the USA & probably the world.
You're the best & I sincerely mean that.
GOD BLESS BERNARD SANDERS. May The Force be with you
My respect for him has grown a lot more
Although I don't agree with him at all with anything I do find him to be genuine which is nice.
Vote for Bernie Sanders 2016!!!!
I #FeelTheBern from Canada.
I support #LivingIncome,
I support #LivingWage, #FreeEducation, #HealthCare for All.
I support #BernieSanders
My god...students at a conservative Christian university giving Bernie that much applause.
He would've crushed in a general election.
Wonderful speech Bernie!!
When does Bernie sleep? He is going everywhere across the country.
I was there. Notice there was absolutely no booing. The silence from the students indicates disagreement, but it also indicates respect.
BERNIE SANDERS IS THE BOMB... TELL IT.... this took major nuts he gets more and more of my respect.
#FEELTHEBERN
Jon Snow may never sit on the iron throne and Bernie may never sit in the oval office, but they're both true heroes and we're not worthy of either.
The kids in the audience are getting a better education during this one speech than they'll get during their entire 4 years at that backwards school.
My respect just grows and grows for Bernie Sanders.
Absolutely beautiful! God bless Sanders
good, very good speech. Too bad the crowd does not have a clue what he talks about.
" the greatest opportunity ever given to the world thrown away, because the passion for equality made vain the hope for freedom".
-Lord Acton
Tough crowd. I love Bernie's passion and integrity in the face of it. Go Bernie!
We read this speech in AP English. He's a great public speaker and he molded his speech very well for his audience.
One of the greatest men of our time
feel the bern.....
Our next President!! This is what an adult sounds like. We can agree to disagree on social issues and get to work on the issues that impact the middle and lower classes!
I love that there are kids there who already support Bernie. Amazing speech!
Feel the Bern 2016!!! I can not tell you how much I respect this guy.
One the most powerful political speeches I have heard in a very long time!
