Do you really want to provide good health care? If so don't you think we should examine our options? Nope. How is that a free market when they keep passing legislation favoring big corporations? And if Bernie is for crony capitalism then why is he fighting to get money out of politics. Both Reb and Dem love crony capitalism. Those donors sign their checks. Bernie doesn't even have a PAC.

+GreyWolfLeaderTW You really should quit posting your misunderstandings on sites like this. Socialism isn't Fascist. Fascism is a blend of militarism, religion, corporatism, racism and nationalism. It has always been considered a right wing political ideology that has some elements of populism. Sort of like the modern Conservative movement. Germany, prior to and during WWII, was Fascist...not Socialist. Hitler, as a fascist, socialized nothing. Without the support of independent and free market corporations he would never have been successful. They all made billions on Hitlers wars. Crony Capitalism was rampant in that country and era.

    • @chuckdprince2257

+GreyWolfLeaderTW Right wing Fascist governments persecuted those who were unlike the majority populations. That included homosexuals, immigrants, Jews, Gypsies and many other non-Aryan, non Christian, groups and races. They opposed abortion and discouraged any method of birth control for German women. Kind of like modern Conservatives, (except for the Jews maybe) Many uninformed, or purposely ignorant, people confuse those radically different systems. Read a book sometime on history.

Yes, we may disagree on certain issues but there are way more important issues that are destroying America (poverty, Income inequality, unemployment, etc.). I wish more Christians would wake up, GREED and oppression of the poor are SIN! Our president's job is to run this country for ALL of the people.

    • @hollywoodartchick9740

Agreed! The issues that we disagree on for religious reasons probably should not be part of the political discussion. Those who have to wear their religion as their political platform probably are not serving the people, just trying to attract voters who agree with their religion. Did Jesus not say that wearing one's faith on their sleeve means you have gotten your reward already? That if you would have a relationship with your God, you should go alone into a quiet room, not shout in the street about your beliefs?

I don't think anyone honestly thought he was going to bring the whole crowd at LU to his side. Geez the only reason he's less of an anti-Christ to them is because he isn't black like Obama. That said, it takes political courage to go to a crowd that disagrees with everything you stand for and say "this is what I believe and I'm not going to sugar-coat it nor try to wishy-washy moderate it". Besides, something like this is newsworthy and even in red states there are people voting in democratic primaries. Never a bad strategy, esp. when you have significantly less automatic name recognition. Hillary's strategy is same as in 2008: get the big states an some swing states and home the numbers coalesce.

+based jol except if they don't tax the middle class and tax the shit out of the rich. Which was his entire speech, where did you hear him say we want to take more from middle class? majority of his speeches are about how the middle class is and has been failing, and needs to be helped, at the expense of the rich of course because the money needs to come from somewhere. Sorry but the way our economy works, it is rigged for the rich. I feel we should be taxing the crap out of rich people and not be giving these people huge tax breaks like we do today. Businesses with huge lobbying money changing regulations for their benefit like the tobacco industry for example.

    • @ImperviouslyGaming

based jol Sorry but in every single year I have been able to vote, there is either no one who wants real change or that person doesn't have nearly enough backing, here is our chance for real change. Not "change" like Obama promised and people believed as you can see in the history of our presidents, we are in a a streak of just constant shit presidents. Spending more and more on war, more presidents and politics being paid off by the wealthiest people in the world. Sorry but this is one of the extremely few times where we have chance to vote for someone who isn't backed by these people who obviously have no care about humanity, these people like Obama who decide its a great idea to spend millions and millions on tactical nukes and invade more countries. Sorry I'll side with the only candidate that won't invade more countries without having a just reason as every war we have done in the past decade has been unjust and bernie agrees and has voted no on the majority of these wars. I'll side with the person who has predicted the destabilization of the middle east and what this war has caused, he predicted it and said it in front of everyone and people just decided to do it anyways, why, because they profited money. This is a man who does not give a fuck about profiting money, he cares about helping people, human beings. Ill side with the man who wants to tax the rich more than other classes instead of giving these people tax breaks on their corporations. Sorry but to me it sounds like you are too scared of change and want to support the continuation of this insanely corrupt system and economy. Good day sir, you vote for what you want at the end of the day, my mind has been made since every other candidate is complete and utter shit and a continuation of the shit that this country has been for the past decade, unfortunately there is no "vote here to not have a shit government and be able to govern yourself and be able to deal with your state problems as a state and as a community".

This is why no one in Canada becomes a doctor, because it is all debt to become a doctor (eight+ years of college debts) with no payoff because the government is the only buyer of healthcare in town, and it offers crappy payments for services.
Few doctors in the US take either Medicare or VA insurance because of how low the pay is for working for them.
Then I say we *return to the government of the Founders*. If it is "socialist". Or abolish it entirely. No need for elitists in Washington running our lives for us.

Do you care about my rights, to healthcare, to basic income and opportunity, to rights of poor and workers to get better pay, and basic services? Those rights don't matter to, what matters is some wild eyed speculation. And Hitler came to power because of economic collapse caused by capitalism. So it isn't Sanders you should be worried about.

I've also not heard anything in Bernie Sanders' message that says he's hateful or a bigot. I'd also argue against the claim that he's ineffectual, as he has done a lot to pass bipartisan legislation while a representative and senator, such as increasing VA funding.
Furthermore, even if his supporters were doing these things, Bernie Sanders isn't exactly liable for what his extremist supporters are doing unless he is channeling a message of hate, which he's not. He's channeling a message of coming together and setting aside differences to fix real problems, which is exactly what he says in this video. So I have to say that you're mistaken on virtually everything you just wrote.

His rights deserve respect (and were not in peril there), but his harmful actions deserve criticism and hostility.
Conversely, Bernie didn't come to this talk with hostility for the students, he wanted to reach them with many of the same principles they already believe in. More than that, the POLICIES he represents are no material threat to them, they're actually massively helpful to them (and nearly all Americans). So they had no high ground to yell at him.
You're caught up in the "hypocrisy about letting someone speak" game, which is a very lazy and misguided way to think about free speech (which doesn't apply in either case anyway). I've never been much into politics and there are plenty of parts to politics that I know nothing about, but now that i'm growing older and these types of issues will affect me as a working adult I'm really trying to educate myself by watching everyone's speeches.. Bernie seems like an honest, decent, open-minded man, and I really respect that. He seems to respect other religions and cultures and way of life. He seems like he really wants to help the people, such as myself, working three jobs just to get by.
I often budget my money and I find it SO sad that when I wanted to buy curtains (before I got my raise) to cover my windows (so no one would see me changing in my own bedroom!) costing $12 at Walmart, it took me three weeks to buy three curtains. I only had $12 to spare each week for curtains. Dividing my paychecks among gas, food, car insurance, rent... it's hard. I have earned a few raises and my boyfriend recently got a higher paying job due to us expecting a baby in March. We are very fortunate for his new job, it makes me feel much more at ease with our expanding family. I really appreciate Bernie's outlook on expanding maternity leave. My friend recently had a baby, and he ended up in the NICU for nearly five weeks. Those five weeks she was there every single day to bond, hold, and feed the baby. By the time she was able to take him home, she would only have one week left of leave to adjust at HOME with her new baby, who needed oxygen and monitoring. She decided not to return to work because only having one week at home with a newborn baby is just impossible. Hell, staying at home for six weeks with a newborn baby just isn't enough time. Having 12 weeks gives us SO much more time to adjust and plan and learn our babies needs. Also the fact that if she were to return to work, she would make negative income by sending her child to daycare due to her being in the cut-off "middle class" wage. She's better off staying at home with the baby instead of working to pay someone else to take care of him. It's a difficult decision but it's what us lower-class are stuck making.

We need this guy badly. And no I'm not looking for a handout. I make over 100,000 per year, so I don't need any body's money. He seems so passionate and I don't think he will bow to the powers like Obama has done.

Many Americans, especially religious folk, are raised not to question things in life, but simply to follow traditions, like those expressed in the Bible. Those traditions and rules are simple to understand, which is good if you want millions of people to get along, but the very same simplicity that makes them dangerous when time comes for reformation. Because many religious people don't have much critical thinking capabilities, they simply react negatively to new ideas rather than be open to debate. That's the downfall of all empires in history. It comes down to teaching kids not just to think for themselves, but to think critically about the world we live in. A few Americans get what Sanders is trying to do, unfortunately many Americans don't have the mental capacity to think outside the box they were raised in.

I don't fully agree with his views on abortion, but I do greatly admire and respect his honesty and courage in expressing those views at Liberty University. That took real integrity. It was the real deal.

This country sorely needs more politicians like Bernie Sanders and Ron Paul - men of character, wisdom and principle who are unafraid to speak their minds even in the presence of those who mock and doubt them. Who refuse to bully or dismiss their opposition, who even in disagreement draw their opponents to them through integrity and intelligence. Men with not the golden cadence of the salesman but the gravelly and honest voice of truth. I supported Ron Paul in 2012 and will support Bernie Sanders come 2016 - not because I agree with all he says, but because I respect him as a person and as a leader.

Jefferson was an early hero of mine, partly because of his scientific interests (which very much helped to mold his political philosophy), but mostly because he, almost more than anyone else, was responsible for the spread of democracy throughout the world. The idea - breathtaking, radical and revolutionary at the time (in many places in the world, it still is) is that not kings, not priests, not big city bosses, not dictators, not a military cabal, not a de facto conspiracy of the wealthy, but ordinary people, working together, are to rule the nations. Not only was Jefferson a leading theoretician of this cause; he was also involved in the most practical way, helping to bring about the great American political experiment that has, all over the world, been admired and emulated since.
He died at Monticello on 4 July 1826, fifty years to the day after the colonies issued that stirring document, written by Jefferson, called the Declaration of Independence. It was denounced by conservatives worldwide. Monarchy, aristocracy and state-supported religion - that's what conservatives were defending then. In a letter composed a few days before his death, he wrote that it was the 'light of science' that had demonstrated that 'the mass of mankind has not been born with saddles on their backs', nor were a favored few born 'booted and spurred'. He had written in the Declaration of Independence that we all must have the same opportunities, the same 'unalienable' rights. And if the definition of 'all' was disgracefully incomplete in 1776, the spirit of the Declaration was generous enough that today 'all' is far more inclusive.
Jefferson was a student of history - not just the compliant and safe history that praises our own time or country or ethnic group, but the real history of real humans, our weaknesses as well as our strengths. History taught him that the rich and powerful will steal and oppress if given half a chance. He described the governments of Europe, which he saw at first hand as the American ambassador to France. Under the pretense of government, he said, they had divided their nations into two classes: wolves and sheep. Jefferson taught that every government degenerates when it is left to the rulers alone, because rulers - by the very act of ruling - misuse the public trust. The people themselves, he said, are the only prudent repository of power.
But he worried that the people - and the argument goes back to Thucydides and Aristotle - are easily misled. So he advocated safeguards, insurance policies. One was the constitutional separation of powers; accordingly, various groups, some pursuing their own selfish interests, balance one another, preventing any one of them from running away with the country: the Executive, Legislative and Judicial Branches; the House and the Senate; the States and the Federal Government. He also stressed, passionately and repeatedly, that it was essential for the people to understand the risks and benefits of government, to educate themselves, and to involve themselves in the political process. Without that, he said, the wolves will take over. Here's how he put it in Notes on Virginia, stressing how the powerful and unscrupulous find zones of vulnerability they can exploit:
"In every government on earth is some trace of human weakness, some germ of corruption and degeneracy, which cunning will discover and wickedness insensibly open, cultivate and improve. Every government degenerates when trusted to the rulers of the people alone. The people themselves therefore are its only safe depositories. And to render even them safe, their minds must be improved . . ."
However, through lowered educational standards, declining intellectual competence, diminished zest for substantive debate, and social sanctions against scepticism, our liberties can be slowly eroded and our rights subverted. The founders understood this well: 'The time for fixing every essential right on a legal basis is while our rulers are honest, and ourselves united,' said Thomas Jefferson. "From the conclusion of this [Revolutionary] war we shall be going downhill. It will not then be necessary to resort every moment to the people for support. They will be forgotten, therefore, and their rights disregarded. They will forget themselves but in the sole faculty of making money, and will never think of uniting to effect a due respect for their rights. The shackles, therefore, which shall not be knocked off at the conclusion of this war will remain on us long, will be made heavier and heavier, 'til our rights shall revive or expire in a convulsion."
