Chopping up 'PLATINUM MINT' Monstera deliciosa | Propagation Plant Chores

- G'day, guys! In today's video, I chop and propagate one my large form 'Platinum Mint' Monstera deliciosa. At least, that's what I've been told it is. It's probably the rarest Monstera deliciosa I own (so far :P). I'm a huge fan of mint Monsteras, but this girl needs to be chopped, propped, and sold, so I can get a decent return on this investment plant!

Not long enough. Double down. 24/7 live feeds are next hahah😂
Lol... that's commitment. I wonder if there's a plantuber that's ever done that hahaha
I love longer videos...I can get more plant chores done without trying to locate the remote every few minutes!
Hehe cheers, mate!
that's why I love using the clear pots so much, surprises like this heavy root ball are not happening :D I absolutely adore the Monstera mint, she is so beautiful 🤍💚
I really like your longer videos, but I am happy about every video you are uploading :D
have a great day
Hey Liselotte! Thanks for the kind words :) I'll keep them coming. And yeah, I think you're right. Definitely trying to use the clear pots more often. So many benefits!
What a gorgeous plant. Send it to me! Hahaha
Hehe, how do you think it'll do in Canada? :P
I’ve just discovered your channel, while tending to my own plants. Definitely enjoy the longer videos ❤️❤️
🐸🧦
Pete, don't worry about the length.👍
I live for long form content.
I was going to say maybe soak the rootball first and spray it down after to remove any more soil, but I think you've got it handled nicely.
From my own experience root-pruning is most beneficial if the plant is going back into the exact same pot, with the desired effect of a more miniature/compact plant. So for the chop+prop+sale, roots are better left intact for the plant to grow out.
Thanks, James! Yeah, I think you're right re: root pruning. I just keep wondering what happens once you size these pots up for monstera to the point they're unmanageable lol.
@@petevsplants7516 at that point, it might be easier to grow it as a true epiphyte. Skip the pot entirely 😆
Greetings from Detroit I really enjoy your videos no matter what length
G'day, mate! Thanks a lot :P
Hello from Puerto Rico!!! Very beautiful Monsteras!! I was just as cautious while you were cutting. 😂
Waooo what a beautiful plant
Great video Pete thanks and I’m here for the longer videos
Yay, thanks Kirsty :D
Feedback: I do enjoy longer plant videos :D
A few months ago I decided to save our office Schefflera from spider mites and took it home to repot it. It was so massively root-bound, I had to cut the pot off of it. I also gave it a hose down in the shower and since there was also some root rot, it had barely any roots left when I was done with it. 😅
But after a few days in fresh soil it recovered and now even shoots out two buds... o_O I didn't even know Scheffleras could do that because I've never seen it before. Now patiently waiting for the ones I got sitting at home to also shoot out buds xD
However, even if I rescued this plant, I murdered our pothos that was also desperately in need of some care.
You can't always win, right? 🤷♀ 😄 (I managed to rescue some cuttings though and now I'm waiting for them to be ready to make our meeting room green again ^^)
Feedback accepted :D hehe
Oh wow, that's awesome! Send me a pic on Instagram if you can :D I'd love to see!
haha you definitely can always win. Feels like the universe constantly balances itself haha
The length is fine. Nice plant, and better than the expensive one you showed, that one looks ill.
I also appriate that I dont have to slow down the playing, with some youtubers they remove all breathing seconds and rattle on at superspead. Great that the music is gone :)
Hehe glad you liked it, mate :) Thanks again for the support.
I found a Monstera thrown away in woods near my in-laws.. it was a little rough, but looks like it's making new roots after I chopped it up. Fingers crossed and thanks for the video!
Let’s go!!!
Cool videos mate, it’s kind of relaxing to just listen and watch a long plant propagation video 😄
Thanks, Ayato! Where're you watching from?
@@petevsplants7516 germany! 😄
😂 Best reaction to the root reveal!! ❤
Love your videos!!!!!
Beautiful plant Pete
Hehe thanks, Sriram :P
LOL BEST NEXT MOVEMENT AND LONGER VIDS FORSURE!
Yes, long videos are fine! This is my therapy!
Hehe cheers, mate!
She's a beauty! So that is definitely why they're called monstera cos they develop monster roots!!! Love love Monstera roots and monstera in general...they just keep giving and never disappoint (well not for me so far 😉)
Oh I forgot…..longer vids pls 😁
I prefer the longer videos. This was great.
:) Thanks mate!
Subscribed! Great videos man, really enjoying the monstera vids! Nice job staking these up. Curious what you wound up selling these for? Thanks for sharing, those turned out great!
She's a beautiful plant Pete and obviously that method of air layer propping with a pot of normalish medium works wonders! Purely for your entertainment I will share that I had someone who couldn't see my screen walk in at around the 14:25 mark, they looked horrified and left quickly. 🤣 Which put my mind firmly into the gutter for the rest of the video making it all the more gut bustlingly hilarious when you made that comment later on. Honestly though it's a planty video there's going to be some dirt. On a totally different topic yes longer ones are better. *said with a totally straight face.*
Lol and I will be using the pronoun 'it' from now on... haha glad I'm not the only one with my mind in the gutter every time I say "...she roots".
You can put the whole root bound ball in a large bucket of water (or the sink) and shake shake shake. Usually most of the inner dirt will come out with some coaxing. But a lot easier than just going at it dry! Hehe! 😜
Hehe very clever! I'll have to try that
yeah, i had the same problem, sent snap top my mom, she then told me about the bucketdip
I use a 5gal bucket and a water hose to clean dirt out of root bound root balls
Can’t wait until the future comes, and these are as common as all the pathos varieties lol
Hehe I also look forward to that day :D
Love long videos
Hehe cheers, Susie!
I find longer videos relaxing especially with releasing those fantastic root balls. I’ve had luck alternating fingers and chopstick to get into the bits of it without damaging roots.
Hehe good tips, Sharon! Thanks :D
💚
My only suggestion could be, is to water down the root & soil, as so to give you better removal of the soil
first of all Monstera dont mind root bound and also there is space in the midle of the root and you could trim some of the roots. nice plant
I either poke at the soil with chop sticks or a toothpick depending on the size of the plant container
Nice one!
Enjoyed the longer video. Keep the bigger cutting, unless you want to wait for the either of the others to grow as big, and keep us posted on how they aLl get on please.
It got sold this week hehe :D Will definitely let you know how they go :)
I Hope m’y monsteras gonna be okay. I got mine from a big box store back in January. Not the mint (I wish). I had two plants in one pot and they were actually doing well but I should’ve transplanted them a LONG time ago. It was in 100 peat moss , I mixed a chunky airoid mix and went ahead and started taking the roots apart. All the big major roots made it but the fine secondary roots didn’t . I planted them both in their new containers and hoping they’ll be okay .
Nice video...
nice monstera:)
This video has been a wonderful introduction to your channel. I learned a lot, and laughed a lot. Thanks. I’ve just subscribed. If you decide to sell one of these beauties, I would like to purchase. It. Just sayin’😉
Cheers, Margaret :D I really appreciate it!
Hi Pete, wondering what you decided to sell/keep & what price you decided on or did you auction these cuttings?
You could use a chopstick to get into that root system and loosen the soil.
True, I'll try that next time.
Hi Pete! First off, you just taught me about geniculum, which confirmed I do have a wide form! Thank you! Now, will the cutting you took still revert to juvenile form for the new leaves?
Hehe yeah the ruffles (or 'geniculum') are pretty cool. Apparently they're used by the plant to allow it to pivot the leaf and have it facing the sun more easily. I might get slightly stunted leaf growth, but because the root ball was so developed, it might hit the ground running and push out another huge leaf. I'll have to ask the woman I sold it to to let me know how it goes.
@@petevsplants7516 well then, I guess I know what I'M doing today, lol
We love long videos
Hehe I'll be dumping more soon then!
🤣Poll albo vs Thai con vs aurea vs mint vs green on green if that's a thing
Haha
9:35 The pure elation !!
Hehe
That’s exactly what mine looked like at 21 mins… I had to be super rough and I’m scared for my babies.
Where do you order your clear plant containers from? Thank you in advanced
Nice plant. I’d keep the top and keep propping the base.
Curious, when you sell, can you ship to the US? I’m west coast so not half way around the world. 😂
Hey Richard, cheers, mate! I think we can export, but it's probably a huge pain in the arse re: permits/quarantine from what I've heard. It's a total pain in the arse to get stuff in to Aus. We just lost a spiritus sancti and burle marx flame in the fumigation process (2 hour gas). The stuff that made it through has to sit in quarantine for 3 months before we can get it. :S
I bought a HUGE monstera deliciosa today that was even more root bound than yours. I had to cut the plastic pot to release it from its prison.
Keep the mother plant and top cutting i’d say, you won’t regret it. Sell the rest😇.
Hehe good idea. Sold all top three though :P Kept the bottom and there's alreayd new growth coming through which is awesome!
So the charcoal on the cut is a good idea. Never knew that was a thing.
Yeah seems to have worked well so far :)
Epic new vids from onlyplants again... PT 1 & 2 Lanna international exotics
Hehe thanks for the heads up. Will have to check them out this weekend.
I dare you not to remortgage your new house after watching PT 2... I so hope some of the aroids shown transmission over to the UK at some stage. I'm gonna have to eBay my kids.... (Joke)! 🙄. PT 3 coming today/tomorrow or is that yesterday for you? P.s.... excellent content, it's great watching ❤️ to wifey & small people.

You can also use plain cinnamon to seal fresh cuts too 😉
And a chopstick is good to gently remove the soil from root ball
Yeah, I've heard that, though it's an expensive option I think haha
@Pete vs Plants nah, you just use a little bit and it doesn't have to be fancy cinnamon lol. I just use what I have in my pantry
Hmmm might have to give it a whirl next time. Activated charcoal is expensive haha
@Pete vs Plants look up the benefits of cinnamon for plants. You'll see it's a natural fungicide among other things
#Hakunalaplanta says the bigger the root system the bigger the leaves 😂
Would cinnamon have worked as well as the activated charcoal? That stuff stains forever! As a vet tech, I can't even think about using that! Too make mishaps trying to cleanly administer activated charcoal into a dog who got into something potentially deadly that they shouldn't! (the dog and the techs all got to wear a garbage bag poncho)
Haha it does. I've got a chopping board somewhere with some on it still even after washing it a million times. Cinnamon should work from what I've heard.
Spray the soil off with a hose!
I saw Christmas tree 🥹🙏🏼❤️🫠
What's your ebay store name ? 🥰🥰
Hey mate, haven't set one up yet. I'll let people know when and if I do though :)
Maaaaate!! Chester did not end his life he was taken out, as was his best mate ... too much of a coincidence they both "committed suicide" within a few months of each other... you obviously have not looked past the propaganda machine ? (With respect) they were working on a project together to end child sex trafficking. That's a huge no no
I have never understood why handsome educated men have to use bad language. I don't swear at you please don't swear at me
Hey Lita, I'm just me and will always be me whether or not viewers want me to change. Feel free to watch all the other plant content creators on YT who don't swear.
@@petevsplants7516 don't patronise me because I don't support dirty words.
@@petevsplants7516Then bye lita👋fucking ridiculous your negativity😤why would he even change for someone so close minded?! Lmfao let people be who they truly are💖💖💖 I love your swearing Pete - as being a beautiful educated woman who loves to swear too and also loves to sing randomly throughout my plant chores (and life really lol) as well, I LOVE watching your videos!! So refreshing to watch someone be so funny and real just being themselves, inspiring!!😻😻😻👏👏👏
Thats not at all an impressive plant! Looks like a regular monstera with a virus or something.
Love long videos
