That introductory photo to the video of the plant owner proudly displaying a shining, deadly silver knife, ready to pounce on your Monstera, sure as hell doesn't "speak of" someone who LOVES his plants! Compare that with the comment that says "I can’t find the courage to chop mine"! Peace and blessings to all!
Great video Pete Thai’s are my favourite plants but I can’t find the courage to chop mine! Thanks for the Bunnings trip I can’t wait to find a silver cloud in my tiny rural Bunnings soon
Thanks Kirsty! Yeah, there's something about them that's soooooo enticing, huh? The Silver Clouds keep popping up all over the place at the bunnings near me, so it will just be a matter of time.
I had mine directly under the Mother grow lights, and it was doing beautiful. The leave size doubled but I didn’t like the way the leaves were reaching up , so I made the change and put the grow lights in front of it, and so cool how the leaves turned facing front, which I love, but I have a leaf unfurling now and I think it’s gotten much smaller 😢😢😢
@@petevsplants7516 when this happens, only thing left to do is continue doing the same and hope for the best, or force cut a node or 2 to jump start a sleeping engine. At least that worked for me on 2 different plants. An Epi and a Monstera. Sometimes patience run out hahaha!
wooww that second one is so pretty! mine took at least 8 months to grow again after propagation but it made me a bunch of money so it was worth it :) also i agree with the moss methods, for me the open cup etc versions just dry out too quickly! Great video, thank you
Thais here are still pretty high. My 3 leafer was $375. It has given me 2 new leaves since then. I went to the nursery this morning. Same price but bigger specimens.
I just got a Thai con from my local greenhouse for $50 it's still rather small but putting out s new leaf in just a week! I'm so excited about watching it grow
Getting into the Thai game for Christmas. TC coming as a gift. The constant variation finally got me as well as the large form. I guess I have a couple years, but I think some Thai mixed in with my giant Deliciosa would be a show stopper. You may want to order some disposable scalpels with a 22 or 24 blade. I just kept thinking Crocodile Dundee when you where cutting. “Now that’s a knife!”
Love the energy Pete!! 😂☕️☕️☕️ I like coffee that’s strong enough to wake up my ancestors 🤣 This is a great video, I’ve recently gotten a Monstera Deliciosa cutting and propagating it in water. I’m excited to see the thick roots start to grow 🙌🙏🌱🚿🫙
According to @onlyplants there are new cured varieties coming down the pike from Thailand. Those plants with extreme speckled leaves were shown in one of his video tours of a large growing aroid farm. Very pricey too! Good luck with your propagations🌱
Just picked up a thai con about the size of these from bunnings, hoping to get enough growing to start selling em for cheap at the local markets. Price has gone down to $225. ($211.15 with staff discount 🥸) Lady at the registers said the same thing to me about them not selling aha Stem variegation is crazy, like a candy cane. They had creme brule too but i got me a half moon :33
I love watching your videos. It’s like seeing myself with the gardening but you are a much more experienced version. The videos are so real. Not everything is neat and perfect yet your experience and tip are helping. Its encouraging like it’s achievable, calm down. 🤣 love your humor as well. We are both the sort of trying and spending a good amount of money in tools, fertilizer, soil mixes. 🤣🤣🤣 We also have similar issue with watering, mostly. 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks for sharing something realistic.
lol man I'm still learning loads each day... hahaha still consider myself a noob. I just rushed into the hobby and forced the experience I do have now on myself lol But I appreciate the compliment :D My pleasure, mate :D
Thank you for mentioning transpiration, that's the word that comes to mind every time i look at my Monster as it is persistently crying with teardrops accumulating at the very tip of the leaves. thought i must have hurt it at first but i have not cut into it as you do although i will do soon as it almost seems to be twinning with four large finustrated leaves separate from six young un's. thanks for your info from a fellow victorian.
Thai is top of my wishlist atm. I'm hoping to afford a small one in the new year for the anniversary of 1 year of sobriety. Epipremnums are my #1 love, but the Monstera genus is a very close second. Aroids in general I'm quite mad for. I've recently gotten into Philodendrons. I started collecting again with goals of just building an indoor jungle again. I've always done well propping plants so eventually I'm hoping to recover some of my costs too. I'm limited in how much I can do coz disability, but even doing plan chores isn't work for me. I enjoy every minute of it. Unless I find pests! lol I only found your channel last night and subbed after one video. I'm so rapt to have found an Aussie channel! TBF, I haven't really looked hard, I only returned to my indoor horticultural interested a few months ago. Charcoal? First time I've seen/heard of someone using it for disinfection. Interesting. I'm going to have to learn more! I've always just used cinnamon from the spice rack. 😅 This video also motivated me to finally pull the pin on cloning my adansonii today. I've been procrastinating over it for a couple of weeks.
Wow, congrats on 1 year, Katt. And 100% agree re: plant chores. I have hours of them some days and it doesn't feel like work, just relaxation and fun :D Glad you're enjoying the channel and thanks for subbing :) Re: Thais, you can find pretty cheap ones in this group from time to time - facebook.com/groups/620600941736055 all the best :D
Those are sooooo beautiful. Wish I could have one but a full grown one is beyond my price range and after the year we've had being on and off quite ill they might be out of range for while (I'm not into selling my plants, I'm a keeper 🤣). You got very lucky bunnings had them! Wish you luck getting your money's worth for them.
It's strange seeing you switching to with and without beard and with beard again day after day. So I guess this video was shot some time ago. Any updates yet?
Thanks for the video, I love my Thai con😊. I’m looking at chopping it as well, it has 8 leaves now. I bought it 18 months ago for $325 and has very good variegation but find it browns up. Would be nice to see how they are doing now.
Yeah, I know! I was stoked at the time. The prices have dropped even further now because the market's been flooded. So definitely a great time to get one.
@@petevsplants7516 ya I just got one myself, but paid 449 for one. It's pretty big with 4 leafs. First time I actually had the chance to get one so I had to jump on it. It's been the top wishlist plant for 5+ years
Do you have yours under grow light? I have 3 Thais but omg they are slow...and now have an aurea too, but they are driving me insane how slow they grow have pretty much tried everything
Hey Joanne, yeah it's interesting, huh? I've got a bunch, most of which are pretty quick (1 leaf every 1-1.5 months) but then I've got another which I've had for 7 months now and it's done nothing. I don't get it... I've got them getting light indirectly from the shelves and from a west facing window.
Large forms? Had a hard time hearing you the ruffles behind the leaves? What does all this mean? My Monstera has everything you’re mentioning. Plz Explain the large ruffles behind the leaves that are a dead giveaway? Thank you.
The ruffles will form at the part of the stem where the stem transitions into the leaf. That bend will have Ruffles. Large form monsters will have them clearly visible. Thai is always a large form, aurea as well. The white variegated albo, has both a large (deliciosa), and a smaller (borsigiana) form.
Ahh Pete please never change 😂 also please down a can of mother or similar before you record the next video. 😈 Looking forward to seeing how these babies go post chop!
Hehe cheers, mate :) I'll do my best. Man... I used to smash mother when I was at university back when it was more like ginger beer, then they totally changed things up. Will give updates soon :) Sold the tip of of this one already.
