- G'day, guys! Today, I smash out a bunch of different plant chores. It's a bit of a chatty plant chores video where I talk about plants, honey badgers, plant hormones, and other random stuff whilst playing around with my Monstera deliciosa 'albo' variegata and M. deliciosa Yellow Thai Constellation, Philodendron gigas, P. melanochrysum, and P. rubrijuvenile 'El Choco Red' out of tissue culture. So, we go through a lot haha

Alright, so, the bit about Gigas was a pure entertainment to watch! 😂
Awesome to have such long chore videos! Helps me to get stuck into my plant chores, as well as inspiring to try different things. Nice!
Thanks! 👍
Haha glad you enjoyed it, mate! Thanks for the kind words!

I'm glad I'm not the only person who uses a dissection kit for their plant chores 🤣
This is so entertaining to watch while I am doing my plant chores. It is like you are keeping me company while I work 💚
If you're trying to get good aerial roots for max growth, put them on a moss pole. Makes future chop and prop easier and less risky too
Wow... Stoffel the Honey Badger was incredible. So smart!
Also, as a fellow Aussie can confirm the South African accent is 👌
🐸🧦
the poor melanochrysum... rusty scissors/unsterilized razors. LOL
this was highly enjoyable to watch/listen.
lol cheers, James :P Can't be kind to those plants that don't perform... Gotta try to give them the stick sometimes seeing as the carrot wasn't working.
I really really enjoy your plant videos ❤ and am ESPACIALLY grateful that you also show your struggling!
Hi! Love the long video, you keep me company during plant chores! Thanks Pete!
Cheers, KT! Where you watching from?
This was great!!!! Sometimes I get so frustrated with my plans. I talk to them like that too. They are like jerk teenagers😂
Hehe thanks mate :D
Love Tool! Saw them in London at the tender age of 17. Just told my husband that I have found my people (planty rock 🤟)
Haha winner! That's awesome :) Was that around 2007 when they had released 10,000 Days? I remember seeing them then and being about 19-20. At the end of the show they were like "We'll probably see you again next year!" Nothing but crickets for like 13 years... It was so brutal haha
I remember watching that show with the honey badger escape artist a few years ago!
Hehe glad you saw it too!
I live in Western metro Melbourne and would happily travel for more types of plants. 😅😂
Hehe :D
When you said…
Let’s change the topic 😂
Haha, yeah... lol
where do you get those pots? they look nice the sturdy.
Hi Pete really enjoyed the longer video especially with you chatting away to the Melano😂
Yay! Glad to hear it, mate :D
Always curious. I totally understand your albo goals. Here is my question: the factor of the time value of money. If you cut a mother plant, do you make more selling the chop once rooted vs waiting for the new prop to be big enough to prop again? Basically, do you make more turning 25 to 50, sell 25 and repeat, vs waiting to get to 50, then wait to chop, root, get to 100 and sell 50? Wild card is that the price could drop if someone floods the market vs the value today.
I’m a coffee filter in bottom of pot guy vs the mesh. Also, do you moisten your moss poles with ph adjusted nutrient water or regular?
Yeah, that's the balancing act I guess. Like investing in shares or say physical items that you can sell, you have to pick how long it's worth holding on to them for vs selling them off and what proportion to do of each. I'm definitely aware of when there are loads of albos for sale on the market (a friend is currently selling 200+ of them in Melbourne LOL) so, now would be a bad time to sell. Another option is also supplying nurseries or plant stories too besides selling online. But yeah, 50 was an arbitrary choice, I'll probably start selling sooner. I also have to work out the best size plant to sell to get the most money from my time/growth of the plant.
I just top off my soil with worm castings every time I water each plant, that way I dont have to keep track of anything, and dont have to worry about burning the roots 😉
Clever idea! I've thought of doing the same.
Are those small form?
My Albo Borsigiana has 11, working on 12 leaves in a 12" pot. I get a new leaf every 2-3 weeks. Great variagation, but very tight foilage. It's barely a foot tall, only the last 3 leaves pop out from the soil. My question is:
When should i chop & prop my Ablo?
I can't decide whether I'm flattered or pissed that my husband calls me honeybadger.... We will go with flattered.. definitely!
#Faroundandfindout #badarse😁
Hahah :P yeah it's a great thing to be compared to.
Loving the Australian planty content, as I’m in Sydney. If you decide to ditch the reverted monstera albo I’ll happily give it a home. When you sell your plants where will you be listing them?
Hehe I'll keep you posted then, Amy. Follow me on Instagram and send me a msg as I might get rid of it soon if you're keen to buy it (ultra cheap) and see what you can get out of it.
Oh, sorry, forgot to say I'll be putting a site together eventually and letting everyone know.
@@petevsplants7516love the longer videos. Especially propagation. Thank you and have a great new year
"You look FINE!" 😂
My albo monstera wetstick had its first leaf and the growing point started at a all white spot, its been 3 months and its leaf is tiny and fully white idk what to do
Hey mate, give it a few more leaves and see how it goes. It may push out some green in the next one. Just keep an eye on it.
Just started my plant chores and was excited to see this!!!! Also love the chatting rather than putting music and rolling footage bc I’m doing my own stuff, not always watching the screen. So narratives are good in my opinion!!
Haha thanks, Katie. Definitely makes editing easier haha
My gigas never grows when I was in TAS. I just moved to QLD with most of my plants. And the gigas starts to grow like crazy. It might be the warmth.
Yeah, must be something along those lines then... Frustrating! They're so beautiful. I'd love to have one thriving in my collection!
No superior wisdom here Pete I'm with you Jan makes things look so easy even when the dude is being humble, it's just rude. Glad the Gigas isn't a fav of yours if it's going to snap so easy, my gosh Kaylee Ellen had a plant break mishap 9 months ago where you could see her soul leave her body I mean she titled the video 'THIS ENDED IN DISASTER!'. Ok. Alright. So. Those El Chocos.... damn. Pure plant p0rn. *drool*. There's an idea for one of your December videos; slow panning shots of various plants with Marvin Gaye playing over the top. Thank me later. Bahahahah.
I'm confused by the beard situation
Same, I had to go back to the video a few days ago to make sure I wasn’t losing it…
WHY DOES EVERYONE KEEP COMMENTING ON HIS BEARD lol. I feel so out of the loop. We must know, we must
It’s an upcoming video. He chopped it and put his head in his hydro prop box and it returned to fabulous almost overnight! Hope he shares his nutrient formula with us!
@@richardr5878 😂brilliant😂
Haha I recorded a load of videos before shaving it and some were all the same type so I spanned them out a bit re: schedule.
Are you sure the gigas and melano don't have some kind of pest that you can't see like flat mites? Turns out they can affect other plants despite them being a big thing in the Hoya community right now. Hope it's not though 🤞 Good luck with the props!
Not sure. Might have to get a microscope to find out haha I've heard about everyone going crazy over flat mites.
@@petevsplants7516 or a fungal or bacterial issue? Especially bc the dense moss could be fungus/bacteria bc it isn't getting the airflow
Huge Maynard fan as well 😄 "know your enemy"
I'm assuming we can apply the ALBO information to most variegated plants. Just the other day I went out and bought an interesting variegated Florida beauty and I asked the seller for so many pictures of the buds. I really don't want a plant that has a chance of reverting. I will literally shit myself. lol
Whoop whoop! 🎉
:D
I Avery similar to you. I touch the dirt and come out looking liken ogre😂
I'd love some meleno always keen on a swap

Sure, you should be able to find me if you search Pete James and look for an image of a fighter pilot haha
❤ Tool❤
YES! :D
Did you label the Gigas "piece of shite"?
Bhahaha should've!
Hello Pete
G'day, Carmen!
I really like your planty info just not digging the foul language
