The dad with the teenage daughter is full of BS. As a 13-year-old my room might have been messy, but I could easily adhere to livable levels of sanitization. Puberty might be the reason behind negligent hygiene standards and swinging temperament, but it's not an excuse to be an entitled brat.

As for Story 2- no OP wasn't in the wrong. The holes in the wall would have been more than enough reason to straighten out a thirteen-year-old, who at that point in life definitely knew better. The dad/boyfriend really didn't care, as long as he got a place for him and his own kid to live. I don't know if it was just me and my family but we were taught to always respect other people's belongings and properties whether we live there or not. Had a ex’s daughter tried to pull that stuff: 1) yeah, I’m not your mom and not going to pretend to be but guess what, we’re in my house, my sandbox means my rules and I’m not going anywhere! 2) food wise: this isn’t a restaurant and I’m certainly not your maid. Until you put money in this house or contribute, this is it! Destroy stuff, believe me you don’t want to go there. 3) again, my house my rules. There’s the door, both of you.

I agree that kind of behaviour should have been stopped early as a kid. I mean, I was very young when I was taught that lesson.
I don’t know how old I was at the time. I’d say somewhere between three and five years old. I don’t remember why I decided to write my name in crayon on the wallpaper wall in the dining room…
But I do remember my Grandfather taking off his dap/slipper and walloping me damn hard across the thigh with it. I remember that pain and absolute astonishment because nobody had struck me before. Again the memories are hazy but I remember him marching me home holding my hand a bit more tightly than was comfortable.
I don’t remember the rest, but years later I asked my mother about it because I wasn’t sure the memories were real. She confirmed that they were and filled me in on the details. When my grandfather arrived and handed me back to her I apparently immediately blabbed that I’d drawn on the wall and that he’d smacked me with his dap/slipper for it. She took me behind the car out of sight from the street and pulled up my skirt to my examine my thigh. She said there was a bright red welt on it that turned to bruises over the next few days.
Apparently she went absolutely mental on my Grandfather. (Her father.) She shouted and screamed at him in an absolute fury and told him he’d never see me or my brother again and went “No contact with him.” At least for a good several months before my much gentler and diplomatic Grandmother managed to negotiate a peace treaty on the understanding he’d never hit us again.
I didn’t learn until I was much older as a teenager why my mother flew off the handle like that. She’s normally patient and not given to full fury and shouting. Basically he had often beaten her while she was growing up, ranging from hand, to belt to fire poker. (Metal rod.) Worse, her brother was his favourite child on account of being a boy. Frequently he’d do something wrong and blame her so he’d be believed and thus she’d get the beating that should have been his. (She went low contact with her brother for most of her adult life, then totally no contact after they died and the inheritance issues sorted.)
So obviously as an adult with young children of her own she didn’t want him to beat us like he had with her. And it worked as he never laid a finger on me again. And I know full well it’s wrong and criminal to beat a child but boy I sure learned to respect other people’s property and homes. I don’t really know about using a light smack using the hand as a discipline method. I’m not a parent so perhaps I can’t really say.

It’s unfortunate that he ruined it but the discount was probably a violation of the department’s ethics policy to begin with and it’s good that the Chief enforced it. It can be a grey area but a lot of departments don’t allow officers to take free food/discounts unless those things are also offered to the general public. I work for a municipal agency (not as an officer but I work with them) and as an agency employee even *I’m* not allowed to accept free stuff. One time I went to lunch with a uniformed cop and when our server brought the check the officer’s meal had been comped. He was pretty upset about it but not mad at the server. He made her put his meal back on the tab before he paid. I was the less intimidating-looking one so I explained to her that she hadn’t done anything wrong, we appreciated the courtesy but it was something that he straight-up wasn’t allowed to accept. We paid for *both* meals, left a generous tip, and continued to eat there (with no more discounts).

Actually, in my city, no police officer is allowed anything for free or discounted. It can be misconstrued as a bribe. I once offered a cop my place in line because I was off from work that day & wasn't in a hurry but he was on his break. He very nicely declined my offer & said his break included the waiting in line time just like everyone else. I was impressed by his 'I'm just one of the gang' attitude... absolutely no sense of entitlement. I smiled at him & said, stay safe out there.

The restaurant could go a few ways with it. They could tell the a-hole chief to F off as it's not illegal to give discounts, they could capitulate and tell every officer who comes in why they won't give a discount. Or be complete a-holes in return and ban officers in uniform (no, I don't agree with it, but they can do it)

No the chief of a single department does not change your companies policy, you are right in that regard.
But what IS are law enforcement as a whole and legal prosecution.
What the shop did is technically illegal.
You see the police chief actually was nice to let a criminal offender know that he does something criminal and urging him to stop doing that before taking action. Since most likely "Chad" issued a formal complaint the police chief is legally obligated to inform his superiors about it which starts an investigation.
If the restaurant agrees that is the one and only chance the police chief has to keep the issue sealed.
If you'd answer in such a fashion you will hear about the issue again soon. Simply because it would not sweep it under the rug but shines multiple big spotlights onto it.
Right when the FBI comes storming into the office and your private dwelling.
And after that again when you get served the official papers learning you are charged for corruption of law enforcement.
That is a felony by the way.
And you'd get another one for insulting an officer as that conversation is NOT protected under the 1st amendment.
Needless to say when you get out of jail you are broke, in heavy debt, without a job and on a "do not rehire" list of your old company and most others in the same field.

Fun fact, the Ciliac Association whom has been dedicating their time to study the gluten in all foods have stated that Oats, even labeled "gluten free" are not recommended for ciliacs as they are GMOs that do not pass the gluten tests... Yet I remember getting kicked out of my aunt's house because my mom suggested all the oatmeal she ate might be a cause of her stomach issues.

I hate when people kick their kids out the house when they turn 18 right away that’s when the cruelest things you can do, there is still teaching you can do for an 18-year-old You can just have your child pay rent, And don’t be surprised if you ask for their help later on and they don’t give it to you

    • @debbiethomas2622

I agree that turning the child out just because they are of age physically doesn’t mean they’re there mentally much less being prepared for the world. But that’s all in the parenting, of which this post can go in forever on. But in the op story case, this “child” is 13 and if isn’t “directed” (bring nice here as a could used checked or worse) she will have a few rude awakenings when she does come of age.

While you're legally allowed to kick out someone when they turn 18, it is pretty immoral to do so. I agree with you there. It basically tells your child that you were only taking care of them out of obligation and not because you actually loved them.
Parents who do that have no right to act surprised when their child doesn't help them after pulling something as scummy as that.

6th Story. There is nothing OP could do to sue. She was 18, and legally the parents can kick them out. The car belonged to the mother, thus she had all the right to take it back and technically didnt need to return money, and while yes OP was paying for it, unless OP was the primary on the registration, there isnt anything OP can do. The mom knew what she was doing but was still nice enough to give some money back.

I found I missed far too many things that I would normally pick up when I see them in the aisles that didn't make it onto my list despite trying to think ahead. Not saying it's a bad idea, just not for me.

#3 - as usual, some idiot wants more than something for nearly nothing and makes a stink about it, thereby ruining it for everyone. most places give; discounts, free coffee, free dessert, etc. to uniformed officers (if they are of the pro-law enforcement bend) and nearly all officers appreciate it and don't abuse it. hope they all thanked 'Chad' in their own way (making him take messy call at end of shift, etc).

If Daddy doesn't like parenting, maybe it's time for both of them to move out. All thirteen year olds are miserable. It's YOUR house. Story 3: So he is buying food for his entire family instead of using the discount properly. Story 3: Most delivery services bring the bags into the house and leave the house. While realistically what she did was just plain theft, ruling it as such leads to a bad precedent, because it would mean anyone is entitled to the vehicle, even if it isn’t in their name, so long as they have made a payment for it.

    • @raeishimura
      @raeishimura 2 роки тому +5

So, just a fun fact. People use "the customer is always right" the wrong way. It doesn't refer to customer/employee interactions at all. It refers to the market itself. The idea being that the customer dictates the sales trends, because the customer will buy what they actually want, and will not buy the things they don't, and the market needs to adapt to the buying habits of the customer. A business can choose to sell anything they want, but that doesn't mean customers will buy it. To succeed, you sell what the customers are buying, thus when it comes to the market trends, the customer is always right.

The one guy, though, would pull his gun out and lay it in the middle of the table. I didn't say anything, but I wouldn't put his drink or order down until he moved it. One of the other guys noticed I had hesitated and told the idiot to move his gun. Then, I set his order down. That was nonsense!

I am Australian and every food place I’ve ever worked at gives discounts to emergency services (police, paramedics, fireies, SES) in uniform. The bigger chain places will usually apply the standard seniors discount (between 5-10%) and the small independent places would have a discount amount set by the owner (I’ve been instructed to give between 20-50%). It didn’t matter on whether it was a ‘bad’ neighbourhood or not, whether it was a big city or a small town, it’s just a thing that is done. They would usually get skipped to the front of the line too. It’s a way to recognise that while this is just a regular person getting lunch, they’re also someone that works for the community’s as a whole so the community wants to make sure they have a good lunch break.
