I wired my steer wheel controls directly to the head unit using a stand 2 input Aux cord, no external adapter. Worked fine! Cheers for the tutorial bro!
Nice work! I'm planning to use an idatalink maestro SW. I think once you've gotten the controls from the wheel to the center console you've got a lot of options
So part 1 was from July 2016, part 2 came out four years later! 🤣 Was it reuploaded? I must've originally watched and liked the original video maybe in 2016 or 2017 and have done nothing about it. Now in 2021, I remembered and looked for what is now part 1, and it's great you've since made part 2 which has pretty much covered all of my questions I've had these part few years! That's a lot of words to say, "thank you, much appreciated!"
Haha yeah it was a difficult project! No actually that original car gave out a little while after that original video and then I didn't buy a new legacy until a couple years later, hence the delay. Glad it helped!
I noticed you have the car computer gauge (the one that's usually in the centre cubby) down below the climate control? Is there a part that allows you to do that?
Hello, I made a mistake, I joined the steering wheel control cables with the first 2 cables of the purple and black radio connection with white, which I smelled somewhat burned. And the lighting of the gears, the steering wheel and fog lights controls and some other things stopped working, I need help 😪, it seems that I burned something, I have looked for all the fuses and they are all fine.
Hi i have a prefacelift legacy gt and i want to install that same steering wheel from a facelift legacy gt, i have the roll connector from the facelift model, im wondering if id still need to splice the wires for the cruise control to work ?
The input for cruise control is recognized differently on the facelift cars so you'll need to solder some resistors in line with the wires from the button board in the steering wheel. There's also a way to swap the roll connector but it requires way more wiring. I personally just left the cruise control out since I almost never use it lol. But below are links to videos on both methods. ua-cam.com/video/kFNjh5wNVWc/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/REflp5ojZs4/v-deo.html
Did you replace the unit where the original navigation was in? I have a 2009’outback with that unit. I’d love to swap just that out for something like you have.
Hey! I'm working on doing this swap on my legacy, though I'm having a bit of trouble with it. Do you think you might be able to help? I have the cruise control and lighting working, however my media controls work rather strangely. my seek down is working as my "mode", and my volume up is acting as my seek up. for reference, I have an identical setup to yours (2005 lgt and a 2011 wrx wheel). thank you!
Sounds like the problem I had at first. Assuming all the wiring on the idatalink is done correctly, most likely the car it's programmed for is wrong so it's interpreting the signals incorrectly. Experiment with different car flashes on the idatalink, mine worked perfectly with the STI one which I think I showed in the vid
@@RPGarage hello! So I didn't tell the whole story there; I forgot and left out that I'm using a stock radio. Even still, do you think I could utilize an idata link to possibly get it working?
Hey, I saw your using the factory Nav screen as a custom screen that looks like it's running a android application. Do you have a video or write up about that? I would like to take that screen and make it run off a raspberry pi and be able to bypass the factory software. Basically just gut the subaru factory system and convert to be only a screen.
If your dimmer works on your radio but not on your steering wheel then the problem is with the purple (+) or the black/white (-) wire connection either behind the radio, at the white roll connector, or on the harness where you wired the steering wheel buttons. If it doesn't work on anything in your car then that could be anything and I can't help.
A soldering iron is definitely the next tool I'm getting. These kind of upgrades actually seem doable.

This is great! Love the detail put into each step. I will definitely be on the lookout for the part 2, as I have the double din conversion.
Did it! ua-cam.com/video/RTCNAlCjSsI/v-deo.html
.amigo soi de Chile vi tu video y me funcione pero no me cambia los temas solo me cambia la radio que devo hacer? Ayuda
Were you able to connect the Bluetooth buttons?

Hi!
what did you do with the navigation ? are the original functions still working ?
Can't wait for part 2 so I can try it myself.
Didn't have to wait that long after all! ua-cam.com/video/RTCNAlCjSsI/v-deo.html

Your videos are super helpful, got me through putting the same wheel in my LGT. Thanks so much!
Glad to hear it!

Would it be the same for a WRX 04?
Same question!?
Same here

Very informative video, thank you, still have to do mine, I have to buy an aswc1 switch to complete my aftermarket car stereo installation.
Buy maestro sw or pac cp2 much better devices
Which roll connector did you use?
Just stock 2005 legacy, roll connector doesn't need to be changed, my airbag wire was broken
Bro great work💪🏾 keep it up
Thnx
Hi! My dimmer lights Will not work. The buttons Will not light up.. maybe u know where to go with the wires? Is Glitches somewhere with the Purple one

@@RPGarage where go the harness? Up in the top with the navigation?
this makes complete sense to me, and its pretty straight forward (in concept). Do you think the wiring of this is similar to a 2013 BRZ?
Amazing! Thank you! Now, the red lights on your speedometer. Is it all light bulbs? Or did you change the speedometer? Great job so far..
I need ur help plz
good diy.. Thx
Hey can you give calls 📞?
