Full VDC Defeat, fuse pull on 2018 Crosstrek

- Trying to fully turn off stability control and traction control on my modern Subaru for some fun in the snow. On most recent Subarus, the VDC (Vehicle Dynamics Control) button only reduces the effects of the system without eliminating them.
Pulling dash fuse #37, labeled STOP, archives the desired result of totally disabling VDC. It seems to disable other systems as well, the extent of which I do not know. Brake lights are disabled.
My CVT Crosstrek strongly smelled like clutch/brakes after a few minutes of snow drifting, which is unexpected and worrying. Please comment your experiences trying this.

From what I have read people remove the ABS fuse from the engine bay. Some even make a kill switch so they can really turn it off/on from the inside of the car. I have a 2014 Forester with the CVT and would like to have some fun.
Interesting exercise. I have a 2019 Impreza, and I have to say, the traction control is surprisingly non-intrusive. I have never spun it, but the car is surprisingly tail happy. Almost feels like a RWD car at times.
Any benefit from doing this with a manual transmission??
X mode actually got me stuck today... at foot of a snow covered hill. I exited x mode shut off tc and rugged it. Each up shift I downshifted. Eventually spun my way over the hill..
By Removing the fuse you disabled the EBD too?
Does this disable ABS and brake lights like it does on the XV generation?
Does this void the warranty?
have you had your cvt overheat when you remove this fuse? i've heard a lot of people have that problem
CVT's don't overheat. That is DSG's.
@@JeffSpehar-ov1cn These cars have a Trans Temp light on them, they can overheat actually.
I’m curious how this would cause the cvt to overheat?
@@xpellittletock It somehow does. I saw a warning about that before I pulled the fuse, and 40 mins later a lil red light comes on my dash saying the trans is overheated
Is this same as long press on traction control button on a WRX? (I have manual 2019 wrx)
You sir are the man! I just picked up a 2018 Limited off lease. I never had so much electronic shit in my life!
Hey what's the wheel and tire size if I may ask? Lift? Still dreaming up my ideas. Yours looks sweet!
16" 215 width. I forget the aspect but they're very similar outer diameter to stock.
@@IanJefferys thank you. It’s a nice look. I don’t want 15 and meats that rub everywhere. I have 18’s now. I want something in the middle
@@PennsylvaniaDualSport 15s won't fit the Crosstrek because the brakes are too big
@@artilleryisbetter they do depending on the offset. People all over the fb page of 2018+ Crosstrek run them a lot
I have a 2019 crosstrek I have 15 inch rims and 215/75/15 bfgoodrich ko2s on them and have no issues with rubbing when I get a 2 inch lift kit I will be switching to 235/75/15 and will have to do some minor plastic trimming
How did you know that it’s the 37 fuse?
The brown plastic of the fuse box has numbers molded into it.
Ian Jefferys is it the same with the 2016 forester ?
@@saif890000000 couldn't tell ya but my guess is probably
If you're gonna disable VDC, do yourself a favor and at the bare minimum get a limited-slip differential at the rear. The factory front and rear differentials are open-types and can contribute to getting stuck when VDC is completely disabled.
I just turn traction control off while in x mode
But if the wheels spin faster than 25mph x mode cuts off right?
@@danielgeorge8538 hence the reason I turn off the t/c , With t/c off it will spin those tire and rev to red line if need be.
With t/c on, it’s for a technical section, with t/c off (dual x-mode) it’s more for where you need to carry momentum through a sticky situation.
At least that what I found!
engine light dont go away help :))
probably shoulda got a manual
I wish Subaru stocked enough of the manual trans cars I hate cvt. 10 week lead time and extra 2500 bucks is a joke
It still doesnt turn off 100% by hitting the button. Thats why im here lol. Ive had older subarus before and the played in snow much better than my current 2021 crosstrek (with traction control off)
@@whitewolfoutdoors3418 worth the wait.ordered mine in november, will get it in march
This is the most stupid fuking post I have ever seen.
