I am so impressed with my 2022 with a 6 speed stick. It is a great car. The suspension tuning for a small suv is out of this world good. The price is amazing too.
I am madly impressed with your car. It looks great too. I could put paddle tires on this and take it to the dunes. Because of this video I am reconsidering my next vehicle purchase. Thank you
Hey bro. Britneythe_Crosstrek here. Totally dope video! Definitely the coolest thing I’ve seen an XV do!! Your build is a huge inspiration for mine 😤 keep the awesome content coming! 👏
I can see not needing closed diffs since the X-mode will make up for that lack, somewhat. The CVT is torque limited which means the engine will back off at a certain point. I wonder if the external transmission/torque converter cooler was the big aid since I can see the torque converter could overheat under those low speed/high torque operations. Doubt you would want to be at the bottom of the hot tub and the car goes into limp mode. Definitely a gutsy drive.
This model doesn’t have x mode, though o do have an aftermarket transmission cooler and temp gauge to monitor everything, after 250 or so degrees the engine does cut power pretty aggressively, thankfully my temps stayed under at around 225 or 230 if I recall
The new Subarus have a chain cvt and you can actually turn off the auto protect mode to put more stress on the chain for serious climbs. Such a weird feeling to have a gear ratio that low on a car climbing at 45
If Subaru has an offroad team, they should definitely put you in it. That little crosstrek wouldn't have been any to have done that without you. Good job! 👍 💯 🇺🇸
Nice! using that Suby momentum!! Impressive clearance, protection, and suspension in your CT! Coming from a history of rallying and off-roading my Roo, i appreciate a capable Suby. Ah for want to have X-mode, and impresi1ve AA and DA, and articulation (like NO stock or mildly-moderately modified suby can dream of), my old leggy was able to pull off some great feats here in Moab...back in the day ;p But the hot tubs were NEVER on my radar!! Well played and demonstrated that even a CVT CT, well provisioned (using the 'ol suby momentum) can see ya through some rad terrain@!!!
Sick build..... Too bad they don't have low range like the old ones.... My old '82 would smoke my '17 Crosstrek off road... Wish I still had the old beast...
@@DarkneszFalls after seeing my buddy with a torq locker I’m almost certain it would have been much easier, and another buddy has the 2.5, same case of an easier time on this obstacle no doubt
COOL VIDEO - Researched this car segment for the last 2 months, my findings, - 5th gen forester rated #1 in safety and readability over all others including RAV, trial hawk, honda and bronco sport. That said, it has been a long road for Subaru from the CVT tranny , oil consumption, head gasket issues of past generation vehicles. At 6'3, CR just announced the Forester is #1 with tall drivers as well, no surprise as the "green house" visibility is very attractive. All the safety dings can be disabled permanently, with the exception of engine on/off at stop. After market solution will solve that as well. So, I will be picking up my Subaru Forester Wilderness / pearl white next week. Comfortable driving on and off road, safety and readability, looks, honest service advisors that I have visited with during this time, all have pushed me this direction. And finally driving my daughters 2017 Forester premium, sold me on being a Subie owner. Suggested maintenance to ensure long life; 30k diff (F/R) service, 40k CVT Transmission service, and oil changes every 4k. Compared to the Outback, Off road analysis/videos show the turbo in the Outback gets totally in the way of performance when climbing, as the Forester's new gearing and software changes bring much more to the equation over the turbo, in my opinion. ua-cam.com/video/ZF_JtgJ7aKQ/v-deo.html HAPPY TRAILS but MIN ROCK CLIMBING for this cowboy. 🙂
I wanted the Outback Wilderness myself. Like you, I realized that the turbo just gets in the way sometimes! I ended up with the Forester Wilderness instead.
When you come to a stop, don’t keep full foot pressure on the brake pedal… release enough to keep the vehicle from moving forward and the engine will not shut off. Every loaner vehicle I’ve had, this trick works .

Technically yes, though it was when I had just gotten the car and didn’t know anything, accidentally drained the transmission instead of my oil and ran the car while empty, currently my new transmission is at 70 or 75k miles and I am running a transmission cooler
@@silverbulletxv4497 reason why I ask is I have an outback with 120k kilometres on it. Subaru Australia refuse to service it at all. I've asked multiple times and willing to pay. Those are tiny tires. Did you air down? It mostly looked like you didn't have much traction due to the v-shape of the exit or the tire tread. That's a fun hot tub---it's still a challenge but definitely *much* easier than the other two nearby.
@@silverbulletxv4497 Definitely gutsy! I've thought about taking my Ford Explorer out there, but after seeing how much trouble AWD cars have on both Hell's and Fins, I don't have the stomach for it. First off this particular hot tub is not one of the harder ones and any 4x4 should be able to do it especially dry. What's impressive about this is that he didn't immediately destroy his transmission. But I doubt he could do it 10 times in a row without that CVT blowing up. Still, impressive.
Yea for sure nothing over the top, though for 28 inch light duty ats, a cvt, and no low range it was the perfect challenge for this little car lmao, would love to go back with a locked rear and give it another go
