    Thanks for the update Rick. I have an appointment on 12/9 for the state inspection. So I will see which recalls I can get taken care of at that time. Otherwise the car seems to run fine, no rattles and the head unit has never acted up and I had one update probably around the past spring and even before it had no issues. 5400 miles currently. Rick I had the same rattle and it drove me nuts until i found it. I am almost %100 certain it is the dust boot over the shock strut making that sound. 29,000 miles on my 2019 Crosstrek and not a single issue with the car and the BFG's are wearing very nicely with 25k on them. I have done all the routine MX myself and the car hasn't been back to the dealer since the day i bought it!
    I may address the re-calls or I may just keep driving it. I plan on doing the CVT fluid flush @ 50K, according to the MX schedule under "heavy use" or extreme conditions they have you change that a bit earlier but all else has been absolutely flawless. Thanks for the update Rick!

    • @AZdroptop
      @AZdroptop  4 роки тому

      Hey Mike! Thank you for your suggestion on the noise. That could certainly be it as it might be floating around a fit and rattling now and then. What did you do to remedy it if anything? Great to hear the car is doing well and it’s awesome you are doing all the work yourself!
      Have the BFG’s gotten louder as they age? Mine continue to do well and I love them on the dirt.

    • @mikerobinson8734
      @mikerobinson8734 4 роки тому

      Rick Hutton That sound comes and goes, it sounded to me like a worn/loose ball joint, kinda of a dull rattle sound coming from my passenger side wheel well. I removed the front wheels and did a good shake down and didn’t see anything loose. It was after I lowered the car and feeling around I could duplicate that sound by jostling the boot around from inside the spring. I just left it as is, it doesn’t bother me now that I know what it is.
      The tires sound the same kinda loud but not annoyingly so. I rotate every oil change religiously and that’s every 4K miles.

    • @AZdroptop
      @AZdroptop  4 роки тому

      Thank Mike! Very appreciated. Your idea seems very plausible to me. I had both struts/springs out when I did the RalliTEK springs and I didn't notice anything funky going on, but I could see how the boot could be the culprit. Cheers bro!

    Thanks for the real world info since you actually own a past and current crosstreck ... I ran my car through the subaru app and found 3 recalls that needed tending to .. The ignition coil reprogram, the pcv valve, and one for the brake lines .. Booked my appointment saturday to have this taken care of .. Sad thing is I had it at the dealership last week to get it ready for winter ( oil change, tire rotation, wiper change) and they never mentioned anything about those problems

    I've just had my MY18 (crosstrek) XV here in Australia serviced for its 25,000km service (around 15,000 miles) and they did 4 recalls. The ignition coil, the pcv valve, a brake hose replacement recall and they did a harmon audio & satnav Headunit update (they called that a recall as well) although when I got it back from the dealer it was saying it was version UO.18.22.20 but I just did an update over wifi and now it is saying it is the same update you have. Whatever they did, they messed up android auto for me as that is now not working... joy. Hopefully I can sort through that.

      @@AZdroptop It's probably a different code to the US but it is here : *SRT-283 MY17-19 Impreza & MY18-19 XV (Crosstrek) Brake Hose Replacement* _Incorrect caulking of the brake hoses may result in brake fluid seepage causing non-compliance with ADR regulations_ So something to look into I gather. As for the android auto, the weird thing was I got the car serviced last Thursday and on the weekend AA was fine, so something changed somewhere...
      Also one thing that didn't inspire me with confidence (not in Subaru but with the dealer here) they unplugged my dashcam that has stationary/parking support with a battery backup. Makes you wonder why they would do that?

      Thank you so much! I'll check into it for sure as I have definitely not heard about that one. It is possible my dealer took care of it one of the times I have been in there. My Apple CarPlay has been crazy too..working one minute, then it doesn't the next. One thing Trent did tell me is to be sure your phonebook is imported to the car. For some reason that seems to cause problems with AA and CarPlay?
      Hard to say about your dealer...hopefully just one tech that forgot to plug it back in.

    Just did a four and a half thousand kilometre road trip through dust storms and across all terrains including some heavily corrugated dirt tracks and my 2018 XV (Crosstrek here in Australia) drove beautifully. The biggest issue I had was my Tom-Tom powered sat nav that didn't register some road changes even though I was assured it was updated at my last service. The ac got a good work out and proved to be just adequate on 30++ celsius days.

    Hi Rick,
    I had troubles finding replacement wiper blades to fit my XV too, here in Aus. I tried to locate non-genuine replacement wiper blade units at a couple of places but ended up going back to the parts shop at the local dealership. They were quite expensive, too - typical dealership prices. Oh well, not surprised about the cost but I was surprised that other manufacturers, Trico, etc, didn't seem to make suitable replacement items.
    CFDU,
    Martin

    • @AZdroptop
      @AZdroptop  4 роки тому

      Hi Martin, it is definitely weird. The tab on the end is quite a bit smaller than any of the adaptors that came with the 3 different blades I tried. Someone did post on here that Rockauto.com had some blades that fit? Not sure if it is cost prohibitive to buy from them for you with shipping and all. Have a great week Martin!

All the safety systems like eyesight, lane departure, rear automatic braking, etc all said disabled with check engine light on. Towed it to the dealer and engine is misfiring. I hear that exact hollow echo noise on my crosstrek. However, I only started noticing it after installing the primitive skid plates. I thought it might have to do with the acoustics and some reverberation off the aluminum plate.

    Rick, as you know, I'm in the market for a Crosstrek. Hearing about all these rattles concerns me a little since I'm rather OCD about my vehicles. My 2005 Xterra with 161K miles is super-solid - no rattles whatsoever. I've owned one other Subaru that I bought new back in 1981 that had its share of rattles. I would've thought they've taken care of them by now but, by the sound of your experience (and others), I guess it's just the nature of the beast, huh? Oh well, I guess if I get one, I'll just have to keep my music turned up loud. Thanks for doing these updates.

    • @TrentTheCarGuy
      @TrentTheCarGuy 4 роки тому

      I am on Subaru #10 and so far, I have had maybe 2 rattles I had to get checked out and fixed and they were a piece of cake. Everyone's experience is different and with any car these days and it really is a crapshoot whether you will experience an annoying rattle and a slimmer chance it will be a lingering one that can't be easily addressed/fixed. There are a lot of variables and I was just texting Rick tonight that I think he should remove the skid plate (even though it is slightly time consuming) just so he can eliminate that variable from his rattle hunt. It is possible it isn't the Subaru doing it. It very well could be the Subie but it could just as easy have another explanation. I am a Subaru guy but I understand the faults of the Subaru as well but I am very open minded to the many variables that are present and possible when trying to solve issues in cars in general too. I don't know too many people who aren't in love with their Crosstrek's overall. 👍

    I have been watching many of your Crosstrek vids with great interest - thank you for the useful information👍. I am thinking of getting a Crosstrek to replace both my 2018 Honda Civic (daily driver) and a 2008 Subaru Outback (used mostly for desert and mountain roads here in northern Utah). In your opinion, should I wait until the 2021 model comes out with the larger 2.5 engine, or go ahead and get a 2018 or 19 now? I am thinking about the many opinions about the 2.0 being a little underpowered, and I am not in a big hurry to make the switch.

    • @AZdroptop
      @AZdroptop  4 роки тому

      Thank you so much for watching along with some of the videos I really appreciate it very much. This is a really interesting question and something I have thought a little bit about because I have been asked a few times if I might buy a 21 when they come out. As you probably have read and watched a lot about probably the biggest complaint about the Crosstrek is the lack of power. It seems to be the headline in just about every review about them. :) I will say that before 2018 the Crosstrek was terribly underpowered, not dangerously so, but definitely needed a few more ponies. Truth is I learned to live with it and after awhile it didn't bother me all that much. Then the 18's came out on the new platform.
      For some reason the 18 feels just fine power wise. Would it be nice to have 25 hp? Absolutely. And I have said many times if Subaru ever came out with a turbo Crosstrek I would be first in line. That being said, if the only real change with the 21 is the 25 or so extra hp I wouldn't buy a new one. For around town, highway, off road etc, the power is fine in the 18 and despite there only being a few more hp over the previous years it just feels better. Maybe the fuel injection, the power band, CVT programing...whatever, it just feels better.
      If you're not worried about an increase in price or in hurry I would probably just wait on the 21. The extra hp might be amazing and totally worth it and who knows, Subaru could surprise us with something else we haven't heard about like a really good head unit. I know, I'm dreaming...ha ha. If in the end the hp isn't all that exciting you will be able to buy a 19 or 20 brand new for a discount which is always nice. Best of luck and thank you again for watching some of the videos. Happy to try and help if you have other questions.

      I have a 2018 Crosstrek or XV and I'm not sure if the sound comes from the A or B pilar (it sounds like knocking the windshield with a ring). Also has like a whistling sound when you surpass 70 km/h that comes from the sunroof. Besides that it's an excellent vehicle. Greetings from Colombia.

    I’m picking up a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek Limited. I was wondering about the oil change interval. I believe it’s quite long than my previous car. It’s either 10,000KM or every six months, I’m wondering about your oil change interval? Do you think it’s too long?

    • @AZdroptop
      @AZdroptop  4 роки тому

      Hi Arthur, I believe it is every 6 months or 6,000 miles(roughly 10k) with Subaru synthetic. When I bought my first Subaru in 2011 I think the interval was 7,500 or 10,000 miles. There was awhile there where some cars were have oil consumption issues so they shortened the interval. These days I am only putting on a little more than 6,000 miles a year so I go the every 6 month route. I have a paid maintenance agreement so I have the dealer do it. Down the road I'll change it myself keeping the same interval most likely. Congrats on your 2019! Have fun with it.

    I've got a 2019 base model that just topped 36k miles. I sometimes notice a rattle if I accelerate from around 35-40 mph, but not always. And I also notice a hollow sounding...pecking noise? If it is raining/wet and I turn left. Almost like water is hitting the exhaust. And a high pitched squeak from the blower fan for AC/heat.
    But all in all, I am loving my 19 Crosstrek.

    Hi guys. Got a 2015 Subaru Outback and I’m having issues with my hatch not closing all the way or opening all the way. When I open it and I’m standing in the back, it does this 1 loud beep when it opens all the way. When I close it, it closes half way and I have to press the button again. It’s not the height memory. Dealership didn’t know how to fix it either. Can’t find anything on forums about same issue. Anybody have this issue before?

      Try this and let me know if your issue is solved... Lock the car and stand by the hatch with your key fob. Hold the hatch release button on the rear gate and keep holding it. At the same time, hold the door unlock button on the key fob. Keep holding both of them for 5-10 seconds until you hear an additional beep. Now try to open your hatch and see if it opens properly. I've since traded in my 19 trek but I too had that noise you were talking about. To me it sounds like fireworks in the distance. I had it confirmed on a drive with a tech but he wouldn't say what he though it was. I think maybe it has something to do with the struts. Mine did it mostly when it was below 65 degrees outside and if the car has been sitting for a while. Hope they get it figured out for every one.

When I had my rallitek springs and spacers on Subaru said that was causing the problem, but it persisted when I went back to stock and it was there before those mods as well. Hi Rick. Some time ago I told you in a video that you published concerning the clamps of the stabilizer bar a similar problem in my XV MY18. The symptoms are rattling noise on a bumpy road and only when I turn the direction to the right. I have tried during all this time to locate the origin of the noise. I think my XV is affected by the Service Bulletin: TSB # 04-22-18 (Rattle Sound from Steering Rack on Rough Roads). I only have to install an action camera in the chassis of my Subaru to confirm the problem. The first time I went to my official warranty service they replaced me the two front stabilizer extension arms, but the noise persists the same. Then I thought it could be the left shock absorber strut, but I need to record with the camera to get out of doubts and thus be able to claim in the S.O. When I make the recording, I will let you know what the result for your help.

      Your TSB number differs from the one shown to me that affects the Legacy, Outback and WRX. It dates back to 2017 so it is possible my service advisor didn't realize there was a newer one.
