Greatest band on Earth. It’s amazing how metal gets criticism for being loud and satanic. Yet most musicians respect metal as a constantly groundbreaking and imaginative genre. That's awesome bro ever since I was young boy Iron Maiden has been my favorite heavy metal band of all time still to this day they're rocking out like they haven't skipped a beat.
Bruce is classically educated, he also wrote a couple books as well. You can see the huge difference in what iron maiden sounded like and what they sang about before Bruce. He's an amazing guy volunteered to pilot planes bring troops home from Afghanistan.
Your comment about " almost hypnotizing" is spot on. The sailors were drifting on the ocean, with no wind, and no water to drink. slowly dying, nothing to do, but accept their fate they would soon die of thirst. So they just slumped down in the boat, silent, as the they rocked slowly back and forth.
I saw this tour front row in 1984 in Portland Oregon! Still the best show that I have ever seen and I’ve seen well over 100! The storytelling, the mastery of musicianship by every member, and the pure energy of this band is second to none! Up the Irons!
I've just realised that you post the social medias of the bands you react to in your descriptions. It's shocking how few reactors take the time to do that, much respect!
Steve Harris (Bass) wrote the entire song including the lyrics, and he wrote it last minute to finish the Powerslave album. So this masterpiece was written under pressure like a kid trying to finish their homework on Sunday night, pretty damn impressive and one of many reasons why Steve is one of the greatest songwriters in Metal.
Hi Aileen, please consider reacting to Iron Maiden “Dance of Death” (the Live EN VIVO! version). This is a powerful live performance in front of an electric crowd, which highlights Bruce’s powerful voice, his masterful storytelling abilities and his lyricism, all set to catchy riffs and metal grooves (even a classical accelerating tarantella-style guitar riff at the end). Truly magical!
Agreed. It's a shame how much his voice degraded over time. It was sad hearing how little ability and power he had during one of the 2014 tours I went to and listening to some songs of current Maiden stuff now. When it comes to the debate between Halford and Dickinson, Halford managed to not only preserve most of his voice, but really enhance it in a new direction, adding a deeper operatic power behind it.
I agree...one of the greatest songs ever. I've seen them in concert 7 times so far, and I've met Bruce twice. Best live band I've ever seen. Nobody can match them for energy levels, talent and longevity!
As Bruce stated in the intro to the song, it's based on a poem by Samuel Taylor Coleridge of the same name. The reason there are so many changes is because they stick to the moods and word choice in this poem. The poem in itself has different 'stages' or chapters with clear dividing lines in tone and feel. It's amazing they managed to replicate the moods and feelings so well without really using lyrics to convey them as much as great musicianship.
Its great to see a reaction that really appreciates the whole band and their chemistry. Steve Harris is a first rate bassist and Bruce has boundless energy, he is also an airline pilot and has flown the band all over the world on Ed Force One. First comment, I laughed "nice bangs" Well in metal, hairstyle in important, lol. We read the poem for British Literature class in HS. I brought the song in for class and played it. To think I was listening to this in 1984, pretty sure before you were born Aileen. Man, I'm old. Bruce is a modern Renaissance man - singer of a rock band, commercial pilot, fencer, author, etc. The soft interlude represents the ship adrift at sea as the crew starts to die. "Iconic" is a great way to describe Bruce Dickinson's voice. The band actually originally had another singer, Paul Di'Anno, who was also amazing, but his (alleged) methamphetamine use caused friction with the rest of the band, so they sacked him. A lot of people argued (and some still argue to this day) that firing him was a mistake, though I have no idea how one can truly believe that firing a literal meth-head and hiring one of the most iconic metal singers of all time was a mistake.
Listen to Bruce in Samson and he doesn't sound too much like he does in Maiden. Back when he called himself Bruce Bruce. I like both but I don't think Maiden would have gotten as big as they did without Bruce but I do prefer the first 2 albums and Maiden Japan EP with Di'Anno more. Played the crap out the first album when it came out.
One year after this reaction I can't help but chime in. This is definitely one of the greatest metal songs of all time, from one of the greatest metal bands of all time. And those guys are pure class. Steve Harris, the bass player gave up a successful career as a professional soccer player..... To create the band "Ash Mountain". Later changed to Iron Maiden. The bass is such a prominent element in Iron Maiden's music because it is basically Steve Harris' band. He started the band, recruited all of its members over the years, and is the mastermind behind the entire enterprise.
Steve Harris (the Bassist) IS Iron Maiden. It's his baby. He is creator, founder, leader, and writes most of the music and lyrics. He is the only constant since he created Maiden in '75.
I saw them for this tour in Dallas, Greatness! They opened up with Aces High. Steve Harris was the reason I started playing bass, he is one of the best ever! As a bass player, I agree 100% that we need more love and attention 😁 BTW, Aces High would be excellent choice for your next Maiden song.
Went to see Maiden live for the first time just last week. They were absolutely brilliant!! It’s the music, the animatronics, Bruce, Bruce with a flame thrower, pyro, it’s just a whole show!! Legends!!
I just found your channel and must say that you are awsome!!! The love and appreciation you have for metal is outstanding. On the Iron Maiden front a suggestion from myself would be The Clairvoyant. It's one of my favorites though there aren't many that aren't. Enjoy and have a Very Metal Day
Wow you are beautiful and thank you for letting the song breathe before reacting. I get the copy right shit but you're doing it well. Very nice to see!
Actually saw them when they were on this tour in 1983. I was 19 at the time and it was the best concert I’ve ever been to. Upper mezzanine dead center of the stage. IT WAS SO LOUD! Loved every second of it. You couldn’t even hear the person right next to you even if they were yelling. The sound and light show was phenomenal and I was so happy they put this concert out on dvd so I can relive it over and over. If you like Maiden you should definitely check out the grand daddy’s of metal, Judas Priest. You think Bruce has an interesting voice, wait until you hear Rob Halford wail. Great channel, subscribed, and it’s so fun to watch young people find and enjoy the metal I grew up with. God speed on your journey!
I am a huge Maiden fan!! I recently discovered you doing these "metal reacts" and I just had to say that Iron Maiden is a top 3 for me, and you're reacts are neat :), I love that this is the genre you've chosen to react to. Way to go!! Bruce's singing is epic along with the music behind the vocals and the stories he tells in each track. Obviously paying attention to the music is easy, it's front and center. I suggest listening to the stories starting with this one... Rime Of The Ancient Mariner... it will draw you in closer to the music. I love it!!! (keep up the good work!!!)
Bruce has an epic voice, but you got to check JudasPriesr Rob Halfordsinging, especially during the 70s and 80s. Check alive version of victims of changesfrom the 80s, Rob has an amazing voice
This is one of my 10 songs to take on a deserted island. Great reaction. You should do a reaction to "Afraid to Shoot Strangers" studio version. It's a gem.
You noticed how Steve Harris (bass) is often seen singing along as he plays. He wrote the song. I've spotted him doing that in a lot of songs and he happened to write a lot of them.
It gets even better when you understand what the lyrics are saying. Knowing the story of the rime of the ancient mariner you understand the ship piece in the middle. Love your reaction
My favorite metal band of all time!!!! This was filmed in the mid 80's, (84/85?)... I had the pleasure to see them twice in this decade. Bruce is the man, that's for sure!!!!!! If I had a time machine, I'd go back for sure just to witness this greatness all over again..... Keep rocking Aileen... Love all your videos!!!!
YES! RIME OF THE ANCIENT MARINER! AMAZING SONG! Gonna give this video an thumbs up even before i watched it! :D But since i liked your previous maiden reactions, i think it´s quite a safe bet that i will like this one as well! :D
Would love to see your reaction to Seventh Son of a Seventh Son! That entire album is masterpiece after masterpiece, but the title track is on par with Rime of the Ancient Mariner in my opinion!
Thank you so much for giving long songs a chance. A single long song has so, so much to offer, even when they are only instrumental. Plus they are great to concentrate.
Iron Maiden is about to tour the US again on their Legacy of the Beast/Senjutsu tour. You should definitely try to go to the nearest show and do a video diary for your channel. Alot of classics on this tour. Keep up the good content!
When they perform this, you are witnessing the pinnacle of music performances and heartfelt thanks for their audience. So privileged to have seen them multie times.
As a bass player I thank you for giving recognition! Steve Harris is among the best bass players in the word he he definitely carries the band…all are amazing musicians, Nickko …top tier drummer…look at the massive set and I guarantee he used every damn piece of it! Adrian and Dave are immaculate guitarist (yanick later on) and Bruce is among the best singers hands down…Maiden is a complete masterpiece! If there ever was a band that will rock your fucking socks of while giving you a history lesson…Maiden is it🤘🏼
Great song, loved your reaction and the detailed comments you made about the musical performance; I would suggest you also look into the lyrics and the message of the song especially with this one but in general Maiden´s songs are deep and leave you some to think about aside from the great musical display. Keep going! Up the Irons!!
I've been to 5 Maiden shows and numerous others. No one beats their show. Not only for the teatrics, the sound, and all. What caught my ear with Maiden back in the early 80s was the bass. To me, Steve Harris is the best metal bassist there is. This song is by far my favorite Maiden song.
The trance like passage that you heard was the sound of the mariners ship when the crew of 200 was taken by Death. Complete with creaking boards, and a haunting soundtrack to complement the storytelling.
Great reaction video! And i totaly agree, this song is one of the all time greats, and not only couting maiden songs! Can't wait for your next maiden reaction! which song will it be, i mean they are all so good! Maybe some other songs from the same album(powerslave) as this one! like "Aces High" or maybe "2 Minutes to Midnight", no wait "The Duellists" and ofcourse the tittle track "Powerslave"! There are so many great Maiden songs so doesn't matter which one you choose, i'm sure you will love it, i mean even their latest album "Senjutsu" is great! i'm so jelaous of you getting to listen to these great songs for the first time, but i love taking part of the journey!
I would say 80% of all the music I have listened to in the last 15 years has been Iron Maiden. No matter what I'm feeling Iron Maiden always delivers and never disappoints, they just speak to me in a different language. Watching you hear them for the first time reminds me of the first time I heard the song Number of the Beast on Guitar Hero III. And then my brother played me the Powerslave album and from that moment I was hooked. It is really cool watching your reaction because for me it is like hearing them for the first time all over again.
The true gods of metal! I remember seeing these guys play in the Ruskin arms (in East Ham back in the late 70s early 80s) Paul di`anno was the front man back then when i was around 14! THEY ARE STILL GOING TODAY STRONG!
I was fortunate to see this tour back in the day, once at the Oakland Coliseum and once at the Sacramento Fourth of July show several months later. It seemed to Maiden was on tour forever for the powerslave album. Almost a year-and-a-half I think. An interesting side note here is that this show was taped very close to the end of the tour and it is remarkable how much voice Bruce still has at this point given the rigors of the worldwide Escapade they had launched based on this record.
@12:13 thats just bread n butter for Steve Harris, he does that ALL concert ! Btw i do appreciate that you mention him as he is instrumental (excuse the pun) in Maiden as he is the main songwriter and driving force IIRC.
check out bruce's voice on hallowed be thy name live hammersmith 1982,his voice is jawdropping.watch total eclipse from the same concert,in fact any song from that concert will show you them in their prime
Great reaction and nice to see someone reacting that knows about music and singing so it's not just ahh i like this, but you go in dept, i really loves that. Yes Iron Maiden is most definitely the standard in telling stories and Bruce is just amaing as a singer, both when he was young and even now that he is so much older, and the band is top notch in itself. Please react to more Iron Maiden songs, or i would rather say Iron Maiden stories becase that is really what the band is great at... Here is a few suggestions... The Clansman Hallowed Be Thy Name Dance With The Dead The Trooper The Prisoner The Number Of The Beast Aces High Just to mention a few, but there are many other really great stories from this band, so you can't really go wrong here. Again... LOVE your reactions, keep up the good work 🤟🏿 edit... Ohh i see you already reacted to Hallowed Be Thy Name so scratch that... But please react to some of the other songs i mentioned... If you want to see the drummer dance and have a good time, then The Clansman would be it. I highly recommend it 😅
So many kids have to read the poem in high school - this song is like the heavy metal Cliff Notes. Maiden takes a poem that students may find boring and makes it really exciting. They do that sort of thing with history, too. Imagine having Bruce Dickinson as your history teacher.
One time I saw them in Philly for Somewhere in time. Almost passed out. All the chairs were smushed up front. A crush to the stge. We pushed everyone back because a kid fainted next to us,. Great show.
Eventually you should check "The Red And The Black" from them (Live version, Japan, 2017), to see how they're still making (and performing) absolutely incredible music even to this day.
Amazing reaction. You’re so right. Love em. My favourite band. Worth reading through the lyrics to most of these epic maiden songs to get the full story. Also they have other story telling/history lesson songs like Alexander the Great, the longest day, paschendale, aces high and empire of the clouds which is 18 mins long. People would have replied with these already I know.
So glad you did this song. I remember the first time I heard this song listening to the Powerslave cassette on my boombox in my bedroom. I thought holy heck this is amazing, and I learned a very cool story too. The studio version of this song is TOTALLY worth listening to as well.
My first Maiden tape when I was a kid was Powerslave (when it first released) and Rime of the Ancient Mariner has remained my favorite song of theirs, and one of the greatest songs ever made.
The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner was one of my all time favourite poems growing up, that and The Raven. Turning such an epic into a masterful song was amazing.
Hi Aileen! As I think you will continue reacting to Iron Maiden, cause I think you are falling in love with this band, my humble suggestion is as follows: If you want to continue with an epic and longer song, similar to Rime of... the next ones would be Alexander The Great, Powerslave and Revelations. If you prefer a shorter song and, how to say... direct, like a shot, I recommend Aces High, The Trooper and Back in The Village. But this is only the beginning. We're just scratching the surface of the Maiden world. As always, greetings from Spain!
prime iron maiden. their best era. nicko mcbrain is my favorite drummer. he plays only with one bass drum and one bass drum pedal. no double bass. he does a ton of very subtle stuff on the drums that only a drum fanatic will pick up. especially his ride cymbal playing.

Steve Harris (the Bassist) IS Iron Maiden. It's his baby. He is creator, founder, leader, and writes most of the music and lyrics. He is the only constant since he created Maiden in '75.
He writes all the music and plays the horse trot triplets.
I'm glad AileenSenpai didn't become a super model... she makes these video's to be our super model. Love you ❤
Went to see Maiden live for the first time just last week.
Enjoy and have a Very Metal Day
I got my tickets for September in SLC this year. So excited!!
The BEST live versión ever of this song!!!🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
One of my favorite Maiden performances. I'm so old school lol... thank you so much!
Wow you are beautiful and thank you for letting the song breathe before reacting. I get the copy right shit but you're doing it well. Very nice to see!
Iron Maiden: Absolute legends... the quality, the passion, the joy of perofmance (which is amn important for longevity of a band)... all top notch.
Great song based off a great poem. And of course you can't go wrong with Bruce's voice :-)
Check alive version of victims of changesfrom the 80s, Rob has an amazing voice
you were about to cry! This is the greatest song for me. Brings me pleasure to see a young person such as yourself appreciate Iron Maiden.
Saw them for the 10th time in Belfast last week. Still brilliant live.
Simply put, thank you for doing Iron Maiden reactions. Keep them coming.🎸🥁🙏🏼
It gets even better when you understand what the lyrics are saying. Knowing the story of the rime of the ancient mariner you understand the ship piece in the middle.
Love your reaction
One of their amazing songs they have so many of them. A song of theirs that doesn't get enough love is "stranger in a strange land"
Long beach IN 85 Yes
Seen them a couple of weeks ago. They are all in their sixties and probably performing better than ever.
Long Beach, Ca...I was there!
Here too…which day brother???🤘🏼
First reaction I've seen to this track - Great choice. Look forward to more deeper cuts.
Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son is my favourite song of all times. Would ve great if you could react to it.
Amen to this comment. The Evil That Men Do is the perfect 4 minute encapsulation of everything that is Maiden.
Thank you so much for giving long songs a chance. A single long song has so, so much to offer, even when they are only instrumental. Plus they are great to concentrate.
Cancer: "I´m gonna take your voice away"
Bruce: "Hold my beer, bitch"
Iron Maiden is about to tour the US again on their Legacy of the Beast/Senjutsu tour. You should definitely try to go to the nearest show and do a video diary for your channel. Alot of classics on this tour. Keep up the good content!
I always loved playing with an aggressive bass player.....and an aggressive drummer.
Thanks. You're the first reaction to thos video that actually gave credit to the bass. Steve Harris is one of the best of all time.
If there ever was a band that will rock your fucking socks of while giving you a history lesson…Maiden is it🤘🏼
Steve Harris the bassist is the primary songwriter so if you like bass this is your jam for sure
Great song, loved your reaction and the detailed comments you made about the musical performance; I would suggest you also look into the lyrics and the message of the song especially with this one but in general Maiden´s songs are deep and leave you some to think about aside from the great musical display. Keep going! Up the Irons!!
Great!!!
In my Top 3 Maiden songs!!!
Greetings from Spain!
this song has amazing lyrics! My favorite song of theirs! Song is like a rollercoaster! You should read the poem, it's amazing too!
Steve Harris the bassist wrote the song and was the founder of the band
Bruces’s voice is amazing and this is a great video. Steve Harris bass work is absolutely amazing. Another great video is Hallowed be thy Name!
Bruce's stage banter has always been top notch.🤣
Also, other song from this same show to check out are (all of them)
Number of the beast & Powerslave
Ok you got me, with your Iron Maiden reactions. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed!
The trance like passage that you heard was the sound of the mariners ship when the crew of 200 was taken by Death. Complete with creaking boards, and a haunting soundtrack to complement the storytelling.
It al started with Iron Maiden for me! ❤️🤘🏻
Thank you Aileen from an old Maiden fan to a NEW one 😉 x
I was in the audience of an italian gig of that tour (and the previous tour).
Maiden is that one band you have to see live in your life time, stage presence and stage set-up is an unforgettable experience.
One of my all time favorite songs right here.
The Clansman
Hallowed Be Thy Name
Dance With The Dead
The Trooper
The Prisoner
The Number Of The Beast
Aces High
Just to mention a few, but there are many other really great stories from this band, so you can't really go wrong here.
Again... LOVE your reactions, keep up the good work 🤟🏿
edit... Ohh i see you already reacted to Hallowed Be Thy Name so scratch that... But please react to some of the other songs i mentioned... If you want to see the drummer dance and have a good time, then The Clansman would be it. I highly recommend it
😅
If she loves the baselines so much she's in for a real treat with Iron Maiden. Maybe try wrathchild?
And only gets better
Bruce is an excellent stage performer: he embodies the songs. OMG am I a fanboy huh?
Good music captures you..Great music captures your soul.... And never lets go.
Hi Aileen!
As I think you will continue reacting to Iron Maiden, cause I think you are falling in love with this band, my humble suggestion is as follows:
If you want to continue with an epic and longer song, similar to Rime of... the next ones would be Alexander The Great, Powerslave and Revelations.
