Greatest band on Earth. It’s amazing how metal gets criticism for being loud and satanic. Yet most musicians respect metal as a constantly groundbreaking and imaginative genre. You can’t find an untalented metal musician since it requires mastering your art in order to be relevant. And there’s bands like Iron Maiden who are not only talented but in their love for history and literature, have come up with some of the most iconic songs ever. It is really like the contemporary version of classical music. The constant search for perfection. If you ever read this I would love to see a video reaction about how people in the past reacted to metal music. Love your channel and twitch. ❤️
That's awesome bro ever since I was young boy Iron Maiden has been my favorite heavy metal band of all time still to this day they're rocking out like they haven't skipped a beat.
@The Stranger I was at the recording 'Live After Death' concert Long Beach Arena 1985, and saw Paul Di'Anno play with his band Killers where he just sang the first two Maiden albums. The same year. At a bar in California.
@@pthor6265, haha, I was at that show too! I was 16 at the time. Drove down to the show from Bellflower with three friends. And in '92, I won tickets on KNAC to see Paul and his band _Killers_ at Banana's in Santa Ana. P.S. Which bar did you see Paul?
Bruce is classically educated, he also wrote a couple books as well. You can see the huge difference in what iron maiden sounded like and what they sang about before Bruce. He's an amazing guy volunteered to pilot planes bring troops home from Afghanistan.
Steve Harris (Bass) wrote the entire song including the lyrics, and he wrote it last minute to finish the Powerslave album. So this masterpiece was written under pressure like a kid trying to finish their homework on Sunday night, pretty damn impressive and one of many reasons why Steve is one of the greatest songwriters in Metal.
Hi Aileen, please consider reacting to Iron Maiden “Dance of Death” (the Live EN VIVO! version). This is a powerful live performance in front of an electric crowd, which highlights Bruce’s powerful voice, his masterful storytelling abilities and his lyricism, all set to catchy riffs and metal grooves (even a classical accelerating tarantella-style guitar riff at the end). Truly magical!
Your comment about " almost hypnotizing" is spot on. The sailors were drifting on the ocean, with no wind, and no water to drink. slowly dying, nothing to do, but accept their fate they would soon die of thirst. So they just slumped down in the boat, silent, as the they rocked slowly back and forth.
I saw this tour front row in 1984 in Portland Oregon! Still the best show that I have ever seen and I’ve seen well over 100! The storytelling, the mastery of musicianship by every member, and the pure energy of this band is second to none! Up the Irons!
I've just realised that you post the social medias of the bands you react to in your descriptions. It's shocking how few reactors take the time to do that, much respect!
Agreed. It's a shame how much his voice degraded over time. It was sad hearing how little ability and power he had during one of the 2014 tours I went to and listening to some songs of current Maiden stuff now. When it comes to the debate between Halford and Dickinson, Halford managed to not only preserve most of his voice, but really enhance it in a new direction, adding a deeper operatic power behind it.
As Bruce stated in the intro to the song, it's based on a poem by Samuel Taylor Coleridge of the same name. The reason there are so many changes is because they stick to the moods and word choice in this poem. The poem in itself has different 'stages' or chapters with clear dividing lines in tone and feel. It's amazing they managed to replicate the moods and feelings so well without really using lyrics to convey them as much as great musicianship.
Powerslave is also awesome from this concert, it’s a heavy track. Also If you want to hear a bit of funk with crowd interaction listen to - Running free, also from this concert.
"Iconic" is a great way to describe Bruce Dickinson's voice. The band actually originally had another singer, Paul Di'Anno, who was also amazing, but his (alleged) methamphetamine use caused friction with the rest of the band, so they sacked him. A lot of people argued (and some still argue to this day) that firing him was a mistake, though I have no idea how one can truly believe that firing a literal meth-head and hiring one of the most iconic metal singers of all time was a mistake.
Listen to Bruce in Samson and he doesn't sound too much like he does in Maiden. Back when he called himself Bruce Bruce. I like both but I don't think Maiden would have gotten as big as they did without Bruce but I do prefer the first 2 albums and Maiden Japan EP with Di'Anno more. Played the crap out the first album when it came out.
I agree...one of the greatest songs ever. I've seen them in concert 7 times so far, and I've met Bruce twice. Best live band I've ever seen. Nobody can match them for energy levels, talent and longevity!
Its great to see a reaction that really appreciates the whole band and their chemistry. Steve Harris is a first rate bassist and Bruce has boundless energy, he is also an airline pilot and has flown the band all over the world on Ed Force One. He is also a championship fencer and even presents tv shows, on occasion. As a band they genuinely respect their fans, and fans are loyal to Maiden. Run to the Hills is a personal favourite check it out, it is about the Native Americans and their struggles with the settlers. Up the Irons
Bruce has an epic voice, but you got to check JudasPriesr Rob Halfordsinging, especially during the 70s and 80s. Check alive version of victims of changesfrom the 80s, Rob has an amazing voice
Fine of the ancient mariner and powerslave back to back in the mid eighties, was epic, 30 minutes of greatness and don't forget the 40' tall Edie on the stage and the drummer rising up to the rafters
Steve Harris (the Bassist) IS Iron Maiden. It's his baby. He is creator, founder, leader, and writes most of the music and lyrics. He is the only constant since he created Maiden in '75.
Would love to see your reaction to Seventh Son of a Seventh Son! That entire album is masterpiece after masterpiece, but the title track is on par with Rime of the Ancient Mariner in my opinion!
I'm loving your descent into Maiden. You're in for such a treat. I can definitely recommend some of their more slow and melodic stuff like Dance of Death, The Talisman, Infinite Dreams, Empire of the Clouds,...

The bass is such a prominent element in Iron Maiden's music because it is basically Steve Harris' band. He started the band, recruited all of its members over the years, and is the mastermind behind the entire enterprise.
First comment, I laughed "nice bangs" Well in metal, hairstyle in important, lol. We read the poem for British Literature class in HS. I brought the song in for class and played it. To think I was listening to this in 1984, pretty sure before you were born Aileen. Man, I'm old. Bruce is a modern Renaissance man - singer of a rock band, commercial pilot, fencer, author, etc. The soft interlude represents the ship adrift at sea as the crew starts to die. Aileen, I encourage you to read over the lyrics to get a better appreciation of the meaning behind the song. The moral of the story comes at the end - "...We must love all things that God made" If you ever want to know what the best Iron Maiden songs are IMO and the meaning behind them, just look at the list I left in the comments of your Fear of the Dark react.
I saw them for this tour in Dallas, Greatness! They opened up with Aces High. Steve Harris was the reason I started playing bass, he is one of the best ever! As a bass player, I agree 100% that we need more love and attention 😁 BTW, Aces High would be excellent choice for your next Maiden song.
Wow you are beautiful and thank you for letting the song breathe before reacting. I get the copy right shit but you're doing it well. Very nice to see!
You lady just opened a Pandora’s box, and I’m so grateful to see you do it. I know most people will suggest the typical maiden songs, but please please please don’t ignore Dejavú and Caught somewhere in time from the album Somewhere in time. 22 Acacia Avenue and Gangland from Number of the Beast Album. And also, Bruce Dickinson is the the voice that people know maiden for but there is a hidden gem called Paul DiAnno , who was the frontman before Bruce and he is raw power, in which the band over all had a different sound too. Any song from the album Killers is an aggressive powerhouse of metal with some punk elements to it and it must not be ignored. Thank you for being and doing what you do. 🤘🏽♥︎ Ps. Every song is a Steve Harris bass solo. I’m happy to see you nerd out about it.
Went to see Maiden live for the first time just last week. They were absolutely brilliant!! It’s the music, the animatronics, Bruce, Bruce with a flame thrower, pyro, it’s just a whole show!! Legends!!
So many kids have to read the poem in high school - this song is like the heavy metal Cliff Notes. Maiden takes a poem that students may find boring and makes it really exciting. They do that sort of thing with history, too. Imagine having Bruce Dickinson as your history teacher.
I've been to 5 Maiden shows and numerous others. No one beats their show. Not only for the teatrics, the sound, and all. What caught my ear with Maiden back in the early 80s was the bass. To me, Steve Harris is the best metal bassist there is. This song is by far my favorite Maiden song.
This is one of my 10 songs to take on a deserted island. Great reaction. You should do a reaction to "Afraid to Shoot Strangers" studio version. It's a gem.
You noticed how Steve Harris (bass) is often seen singing along as he plays. He wrote the song. I've spotted him doing that in a lot of songs and he happened to write a lot of them.
Eventually you should check "The Red And The Black" from them (Live version, Japan, 2017), to see how they're still making (and performing) absolutely incredible music even to this day.
Iron Maiden is about to tour the US again on their Legacy of the Beast/Senjutsu tour. You should definitely try to go to the nearest show and do a video diary for your channel. Alot of classics on this tour. Keep up the good content!
It gets even better when you understand what the lyrics are saying. Knowing the story of the rime of the ancient mariner you understand the ship piece in the middle. Love your reaction
prime iron maiden. their best era. nicko mcbrain is my favorite drummer. he plays only with one bass drum and one bass drum pedal. no double bass. he does a ton of very subtle stuff on the drums that only a drum fanatic will pick up. especially his ride cymbal playing.
The true gods of metal! I remember seeing these guys play in the Ruskin arms (in East Ham back in the late 70s early 80s) Paul di`anno was the front man back then when i was around 14! THEY ARE STILL GOING TODAY STRONG!
such a great reaction for one of the greatest songs ever done. ı suggest you The Talisman, Dance of the dead, Hell on earth or any maiden song will do it
check out bruce's voice on hallowed be thy name live hammersmith 1982,his voice is jawdropping.watch total eclipse from the same concert,in fact any song from that concert will show you them in their prime
Definitely better live versions around but still great, if you get Time, try Bruce's solo stuff tears of the dragon, live , with tribuzy, his voice shine's
This is THE best live version - by a mile. This is their heyday. Hungry , young and all on top of their game. Stage considered to be best of all time, iconic. If you prefer the old age pensioner versions (flight 666 or whatever) then I serious don't understand you - bizarre, to say the least.
@@nightonthetiles8833 I guess you're one of those late developers who prefer Bruce's strained, cringey vocals and the band generally ready for the knackers yard. You missed the boat, deal with it 🙄
Great song, loved your reaction and the detailed comments you made about the musical performance; I would suggest you also look into the lyrics and the message of the song especially with this one but in general Maiden´s songs are deep and leave you some to think about aside from the great musical display. Keep going! Up the Irons!!
I was fortunate to see this tour back in the day, once at the Oakland Coliseum and once at the Sacramento Fourth of July show several months later. It seemed to Maiden was on tour forever for the powerslave album. Almost a year-and-a-half I think. An interesting side note here is that this show was taped very close to the end of the tour and it is remarkable how much voice Bruce still has at this point given the rigors of the worldwide Escapade they had launched based on this record.
If you are interested in bass guitar based music I can recommend the band Helloween from Germany, and Manowar, but more so the early albums up to the Triumph of Steel
This is a song that she should have listened to the studio version and gotten familiar with the story being told within the song BEFORE doing this reaction video. Then all of the fog, creaking sounds of an old wooden ship, etc. would have made more sense to her. (Also, OMG she hit pause at exactly THE WORST time, just as the song was taking off again!!) As she journeys into the Iron Maiden rabbit hole, I hope she will do some reaction videos of the studio recordings also, like perhaps following along with lyric videos.
My favorite metal band of all time!!!! This was filmed in the mid 80's, (84/85?)... I had the pleasure to see them twice in this decade. Bruce is the man, that's for sure!!!!!! If I had a time machine, I'd go back for sure just to witness this greatness all over again..... Keep rocking Aileen... Love all your videos!!!!
One year after this reaction I can't help but chime in. This is definitely one of the greatest metal songs of all time, from one of the greatest metal bands of all time. And those guys are pure class. Steve Harris, the bass player gave up a successful career as a professional soccer player..... To create the band "Ash Mountain". Later changed to Iron Maiden. In their younger years, they 5 of them would challenge fans to get a team together and play a game of soccer. And Bruce is a successful jet airliner pilot. He flies them around the world to their concert destination on their own 747... Flight 666. They are quite remarkable people. So glad Steve was inspired in music over soccer. Look at what we would've missed out on. So fun watching your reaction. ❤❤
You must see them live. I've seen them 5 times and met Steve Harris (bassist) once. They still have this level of energy. This is my favorite song, and hope they do it live again.
When they perform this, you are witnessing the pinnacle of music performances and heartfelt thanks for their audience. So privileged to have seen them multie times.
If you want to react to something different try Heilung - Anoana, very beautify! It's not metal but they do play at a lot of metal festivals for some reason. Playing at Hellfest in France today actually.
Thank you so much for giving long songs a chance. A single long song has so, so much to offer, even when they are only instrumental. Plus they are great to concentrate.
If you haven't yet & wanna learn more about them.. " Flight 666 Documentary " lots of info & a good watch.. the tour it's self is awesome , look into both..
One of my absolute favorite parts in any Maiden song is in Stranger in a Strange land. There's a beautiful bass/guitar duet leading into the solo. Steve is a legend. I'd say Steve and Geezer Butler are the two most important bass players in metal.
The trance like passage that you heard was the sound of the mariners ship when the crew of 200 was taken by Death. Complete with creaking boards, and a haunting soundtrack to complement the storytelling.
I prefer the flight 666 version, it's 20 odd years later and a little slower but it does give Bruce the chance to make his diction clearer and the sound quality is so much better.
Actually saw them when they were on this tour in 1983. I was 19 at the time and it was the best concert I’ve ever been to. Upper mezzanine dead center of the stage. IT WAS SO LOUD! Loved every second of it. You couldn’t even hear the person right next to you even if they were yelling. The sound and light show was phenomenal and I was so happy they put this concert out on dvd so I can relive it over and over. If you like Maiden you should definitely check out the grand daddy’s of metal, Judas Priest. You think Bruce has an interesting voice, wait until you hear Rob Halford wail. Great channel, subscribed, and it’s so fun to watch young people find and enjoy the metal I grew up with. God speed on your journey!
YES! RIME OF THE ANCIENT MARINER! AMAZING SONG! Gonna give this video an thumbs up even before i watched it! :D But since i liked your previous maiden reactions, i think it´s quite a safe bet that i will like this one as well! :D
It's true that they're touring, now in Europe, and I'm gonna see them on july in Barcelona and I'm so excited. I can tell these past days I've only been listening their albums and I'm obsessed. Definitely they are one of the best bands ever, and Bruce's voice is my favourite metal voice. Up the irons!! 🤘🏻
I saw them live in Chicago a couple of weeks ago. Still bringing all the energy, and the sets have only gotten more elaborate and bigger. They have a life-size Spitfire pitching and rolling above them for "Aces High" to close out the current tour.
Great video! In my opinion Bruce's best ever sang live was The Talisman (en Vivo)! I really suggest you watch it and react to it. Really an impossible even at that age
Just a little fact: Bruce Dickinson is opera trained. It blew my mind when I found out. That's why he is so on point. Thought you would like to know. Another great reaction. I grew up with stuff because of my dad, so I love watching and getting the feeling of it for the first time again.
Where did you hear or read that as it's not true at all? Bruce enjoyed performing in a lot of theatre plays during his educational years (it's in his autobiography) as drama was his favourite subject. This is why he acts out his lyrics or sometimes even dresses in costume when performing certain Iron Maiden songs. Bruce was never opera trained. The whole vibe Maiden has live is that it is like watching 'metal theatre' where the whole band tells a story through its sound and lyrics, highlighted by Bruces vocal delivery style. This has increased significantly since Maiden became more progressive.
Steve’s Bass is very very audible in all maiden songs it’s something he makes absolutely sure of Aileen

Ps.
Legends!!
Steve Harris the bassist wrote the song and was the founder of the band
First reaction I've seen to this track - Great choice. Look forward to more deeper cuts.
Eventually you should check "The Red And The Black" from them (Live version, Japan, 2017), to see how they're still making (and performing) absolutely incredible music even to this day.
4 sold out shows . Thursday through Sunday. Long Beach CA
I got my tickets for September in SLC this year. So excited!!
Iron Maiden is about to tour the US again on their Legacy of the Beast/Senjutsu tour. You should definitely try to go to the nearest show and do a video diary for your channel. Alot of classics on this tour. Keep up the good content!
Bruce Dickinson is on the short list for greatest metal singers along with Dio, Halford, Tate, Meine. In my opinion.
Pretty much my list too
Cancer: "I´m gonna take your voice away"
Bruce: "Hold my beer, bitch"
I actually wrote a paper in college about how their song is a valid version of the poem, seeing as how STC had 18 documented versions of said poem.
One of their amazing songs they have so many of them. A song of theirs that doesn't get enough love is "stranger in a strange land"
Saw them for the 10th time in Belfast last week. Still brilliant live.
this song has amazing lyrics! My favorite song of theirs! Song is like a rollercoaster! You should read the poem, it's amazing too!
I always loved playing with an aggressive bass player.....and an aggressive drummer.
Thank you Aileen from an old Maiden fan to a NEW one 😉 x
For an amazing bass solo, check out Orion by Metallica. It’s an instrumental with an epic bass solo in the second half of the song.
Simply put, thank you for doing Iron Maiden reactions. Keep them coming.🎸🥁🙏🏼
The BEST live versión ever of this song!!!🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Bruce is an excellent stage performer: he embodies the songs. OMG am I a fanboy huh?
The true gods of metal! I remember seeing these guys play in the Ruskin arms (in East Ham back in the late 70s early 80s) Paul di`anno was the front man back then when i was around 14! THEY ARE STILL GOING TODAY STRONG!
Iron Maiden: Absolute legends... the quality, the passion, the joy of perofmance (which is amn important for longevity of a band)... all top notch.
such a great reaction for one of the greatest songs ever done. ı suggest you The Talisman, Dance of the dead, Hell on earth or any maiden song will do it
Wanna hear a bass solo? Metallicas Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth), by the late great Cliff Burton
This band is amazing with the energy level. Reminds me of Pantera’s energy live. Can’t wait for more Pantera on the channel
Fuck Pantera and their racism
check out bruce's voice on hallowed be thy name live hammersmith 1982,his voice is jawdropping.watch total eclipse from the same concert,in fact any song from that concert will show you them in their prime
Definitely better live versions around but still great, if you get Time, try Bruce's solo stuff tears of the dragon, live , with tribuzy, his voice shine's
his albums accident of birth and the chemical wedding are classics way better than anything maiden were releasing at the time
That performance is so powerful and emotional you may shed a tear!
This is THE best live version - by a mile.
This is their heyday. Hungry , young and all on top of their game.
Stage considered to be best of all time, iconic.
If you prefer the old age pensioner versions (flight 666 or whatever) then I serious don't understand you - bizarre, to say the least.
@@simonpage6549 lol don't wet your knickers, i don't think it's the best version of the mariner vocally, deal with it
@@nightonthetiles8833 I guess you're one of those late developers who prefer Bruce's strained, cringey vocals and the band generally ready for the knackers yard.
They are the original and best them and Metallica paved the way for metal today
If you are interested in bass guitar based music I can recommend the band Helloween from Germany, and Manowar, but more so the early albums up to the Triumph of Steel
This is a song that she should have listened to the studio version and gotten familiar with the story being told within the song BEFORE doing this reaction video. Then all of the fog, creaking sounds of an old wooden ship, etc. would have made more sense to her. (Also, OMG she hit pause at exactly THE WORST time, just as the song was taking off again!!)
As she journeys into the Iron Maiden rabbit hole, I hope she will do some reaction videos of the studio recordings also, like perhaps following along with lyric videos.
Long beach IN 85 Yes
I think you need to check out a live performance of "The writing on the wall". They are touring right now and still have the same energy.

Living bassists yes, Cliff Burton needs to be on that list too.
Not to mention the pyrotechnics in the Flight 666 version are insane.
Me too also moonchild is amazing on flight 666.
Thanks. You're the first reaction to thos video that actually gave credit to the bass. Steve Harris is one of the best of all time.
Maiden is that one band you have to see live in your life time, stage presence and stage set-up is an unforgettable experience.
It wouldn’t surprise me , Bruce is such over achiever 😆
