You know, to fully CLEAN the rifle, all you have to do is remove the action (one pin) remove the hammer group (two pins) remove the bolt hold open (no pins) and hose it out with water. Shake it dry, couple of drops of oil on the bolt, and reassemble. 15 min, tops. What a gun!
That means you no longer like most every rifle on the market. You do realize it takes a receiver block, special wrench, vice, punch and hammer to remove a barrel from a AR15? It takes a press and fixtures to remove a barrel from an AK. This is one of the easiest rifles to fully detail strip I've found outside of the SCAR and ACR (which requires no tools).
These rifles are over $2500 up here in Canada, but, they are also non restricted so we can shoot them on private land and transport them freely with no special permits. I just have to convince the wife that I need one. Great video as always
I just test fired a new TAVOR and I must admit that I REALLY liked it! They will sell a million of these. I never thought that I would see a rifle even more user friendly than an AR but this bullpup IS...now if only we could get the price down...! I can see why you are excited by it.
Atlantic Firearms says they will be offering the caliber conversion kits "soon". Can't wait to get the 5.45x39 kit. One pin out, remove the action. Two pins out, remove the fire control group. No pins hold in the bolt hold open. Hose the barreled receiver out with water and goodbye corrosive priming residue. Even easier than my 5.45 chambered AR.
As compared to what other rifles? AK? You'll need a press. AR? You'll need even more tools and a receiver block and vice. SCAR? You'll need a torque wrench.
My point was, when I was running my rifle suppressed I had so much back blast of fouling that I actually had to completely disassemble the Tavor to get it clean. When I pulled the barrel there was so much fouling all inside the receiver it looked like a charcoal briquette . With my M4A1 all I had to do was pull the BCG and CH wipe those down, wipe down the upper and lower and I was done. This was after heavy contact that lasted 5hrs and I expended around 35 mags.
Slick song in the vid. You really love that rifle. And after seeing my buddies tavor I can see why. It is a sweet rifle. Way more value for the money than any other bulpups I've seen.
For me, it's useful to be able to clean every nook and cranny of the rifle. A detail strip of a heavily used firearm is generally a good idea. Will the average Joe need to remove his barrel? No. Do heavy users like me like the option? Heck yes. I also plan on getting a 9mm kit which requires a barrel change to install.
Im not sure how else to describe it but I know some people with the TAR 21 have reported black marks on thier faces the first time they fired them-not ment as a detraction as it seems to be a holding issue that isn't repeated at later range sessions. The firearm is still certainly a top pick for any .223/5.56x45 firearm!
My gun store has several Tavors on hand. I've been wanting to get one since they came over to the US. Messed around with one there a bit, love it. Maybe in the next few months. Thanks for all the Tavor info shared!
*************** NOTICE ************* DO NOT attempt to operate the Barrel locking key on the side of the Tavor UNTIL you have removed the Charging Rod assembly. The Rocker Nut (that you can't see until you get it apart) will push UP on the Charging Rod - placing it in a 'bind', and you WILL bend it. In reverse, DO NOT RE-INSTALL the Charging Rod Assembly until you have re-inserted the Barrel, and locked it into place. You won't be able to do this - because the end of the Charging Rod will be banking the Barrel Lock down bolt, and you'll be wondering why it won't slide all the way back. Just remember this 1 rule - Don't attempt to Install or remove the Charging Handle Assembly until the Barrel Lock is in the 'Locked' position - taking it apart, or re-assembling it.
Just as you did not have to remove the barrel, handguard, etc from your M4 to clean it, you don't have to in the TAVOR. This was just a video showing how to take it all the way apart. You *could* do all of those things in your M4/AR & there are lots of videos showing that process, too. Which is MUCH harder, btw, than in the TAVOR. Show me a complete takedown from a fully-assembled M4 in 5 minutes, like this vid did w/ the tavor. Right. Field stripping the tavor for cleaning takes 4 seconds.
Thankfully there's absolutely no need to do such a detailed strip "under fire". This is something to be done by an armorer in the rear. Field stripping and cleaning is all that's required for regular maintenance.
@MAC.. I know you mentioned ppl were saying to lay off the number of Tavor vids but I must counter. Keep them coming my man I've got it coming in FDE and can't wait, you have the best reviews BY FAR IMO. Very excited so if you choose keep them coming bro, thanks!
Id recommend having a simple single layer plano tackle box insert handy when disassembling a rifle. They are great for compartmentalizing all the screws, pins, and springs.
Yes yes yes, there is nothing like a 60-70 years old designs... and that also means we need more comparison videos Tavor vs AR vs AK and not only holes in the cardboard targets but actually living with the gun comparison like going to the bathroom with the rifle, getting into and out of a car with it, or being with the gun on you for a week or so
Thanks, I already use Frog Lube on most of my hand guns and my Colt Le6920, I'll try a can of Ballistol and check out the results. Thanks for the reply and all the informative video, especially the cleaning and disassembly ones.
It's interesting to note that a full strip of the Norinco T97 bullpup is much easier...excluding removal of the barrel, of course, as that thing is pinned on! Love the bullpup reviews/vids, BTW.
Yeah that's weird. Wasn't my experience. Ran fine with weak .223 reloads to factory XM855 62 grain 5.56. Blockback was more than with my piston AR (piston on the TAVOR is much closer to your face) but still not bad. Most of it was just fumes from the solvent that was in/on my suppressor, and not actual combustion blockback.
Thanks Tim, the video was very helpful for installing my Geissele Lightning Bow. i had a bit of trouble getting the assembly with the charging handle back on but i got it to fit properly after about 10 minutes or so.
They're supposed to be bringing out 5.45/9mm conversion kits because they and their military customers can use them, but .300blk is really only an American thing. If enough people are looking for it, you might see a company like High Desert Dog make .300blk kits, but probably not IWI-USA. Don't quote me on this, but you're more than safe guessing that the 32 round mags they mention will be made to Uzi specs simply for logistics purposes since they already have loads of them.
i like your videos. when im in school, i have a two-hour break so usually i just go to the computer lab and watch your vids while im waiting for my break to be over. lol
8:22 Tim... Corey & Erika from RTT called, they want their theme music back. LOL (Thought I was watching their channel for a minute.) Thanks for the disassembly video... great video as always. Best regards! Chad
That's why I love the AR-15, it's even simpler than THAT. But not, seriously he's disassembling the entire rifle. You'd need a set of tools/a good work bench as well if you wanted to do the same to a 416. You'd probably need a set of more punches and a torque wrench/barrel wrench. Nobody does this in the field.
He really only needed the tools to take off the barrel and other accessories like the rails. He didn't need any tools to do a field strip and even take out the trigger group and bolt catch. AK doesn't even have a bolt catch and you can't take off the barrel this easy! You also can't reverse the charging handle so it's not a fair comparison. If you had rails screwed on your custom AK you would of course need tools to take them off and you need more tools to take off the barrel.
The TAR 21's barrel is only 1.5" longer than an M4's. Their ballistics are almost identical. I'm not going to say either is inferior, because "superiority" is subjective, but they both have their merits. I personally would LOVE a micro Tavor(it has an AR-15 style mag release and no huge hand-trigger-guard) with the 13" barrel when they start selling it, but the full length TAR 21 just doesn't give me enough benefits when compared to losses over an AR-15 pattern rifle. Just my .02.
Wow. People that say this requires too many tools to FULLY disassemble, or is too complicated, or think it looks cheap, have obviously not touched or shot one in person. This is WAY easier to fully disassemble with everyday tools compared to an AR. If you've never shot one, held one, used one, or even seen one in person - reserve your judgment and don't speak as if you knew it all. Too many video game kids watching these videos...
Last I shot suppressed using a Surefire can it had stoppages every 3 shots or so. IWI blamed it on to much lubricant and said to run it dry......Didn't change the fact that I had so much blowback seeping from every nook and cranny that to clean it I had to completely strip the gun like in the video. My issued M4A1 ran suppressed 100x better than the Tavor did.
What was weird was the surefire cans have less blowback than the NT4 I had issued to me, and even then the Tavor was far more of a hassle to run and clean than my M4, at least with my M4 all I had to clean was the lower, upper and BCG. Much simpler than completely taking apart a rifle full of small pins and screws. My M4 was also not a piston(yeah obvious) and it ran fine suppressed even when I put around 35 mags through it over the period of a day.
Thanks so much for your video! You answered all my questions regarding conversion to left-hand, almost -- I think there is a different bolt required. Complete TU!
It seems that it requires quite few tools for a service rifle. I thought taking AR's apart was enough work but Tavor seems taking even more steps. I wonder why people like IWIs', didn't make her to be more of a "tool free/less design". Compare to AUG A3, it seems to be a bit of over kill. I never figured out why Steyr would use a big chunk of steal instead of hollowed aluminum to construct the rail which made the A3 frontal heavy, not as balanced as Tavor.
Why do you say that? I just shot mine suppressed last weekend and it was great. Did just as well as my AR-15 with adjustable gas piston system (which I even shot on "off" where the action doesn't cycle). The TAVOR was very quiet and cycled perfectly with no issues whatsoever.
The hardest part for taking apart the AR is the bolt carrier portion where you have to take out the firing ping. Until that point, no tools is actually needed, rail screw really shouldn't be counted cuz you don't need to take them off unless the barrel is damaged. AUG features quick barrel change but the vertical grip is a pressure point to the barrel itself. In other word, when you are holding it, it will slightly throw off your accuracy. I'd say both have pros and cons. PS: Where is FS2000?
To all those suffering from A.D.D. this is a full disassembly video. The field strip for this rifle is completely tooless and is accomplished by removing the one piece bolt/piston.
Is being a gun nerd a lesser form of nerddom? I watched this video with multiple rewinds. I do not own one and am somewhat on the fence of how I feel about it although it is Israeli which means it has to be Godly. Good vid MAC, looks easy
You can use a toothpick or a bullet or a bent casing to pull out the firing pin retention pin. That's only if you don't want to hurt your pretty little fingernails. You don't need any tools.
Not sure if sarcasm... If I offended you, it wasn't my intention, just sayin that the AR-15 platform has been used for ages for a reason and the only bad thing about a lot of the weapon systems based on it (M16/M4A1/SR-25/etc...) is that they jam often and need a lot of maintenance, that's why I said I like the 416 by H&K. If ur some IMI weapon fanboy then I apologize and did not intend on rustling your jimmies.
Thanks for the upload and clarification.. I read somewhere else that the takedown process takes much longer than this video.. The person also stated that switching the ejection port to the other side requires a trip back to the factory.. Is that true..? It's also nice to know that switching the charging handle to the other side isn't too difficult and doesn't require any other parts..
Any chance you could get your hands on the Geissele Sabra Lightning Bow and show how to install that? I haven't seen a single video on how to replace that part on the Tavor yet, and you didn't take out the existing trigger in this video.
***** just follow the disassembly instructions in the video. Then the trigger bow removal is just one pin. after the old trigger is out follow the instructions included with the geissele trigger bow for installation. i just took care of mine, really easy
In basic we cycled the assembly & disassemble + cleaned our C7's (M16's) hundreds of times in all sorts of conditions including in the dark and in the field. I would not want to have to do that process with the Tavor.
Complicated no, tedious maybe with a side of intricate. I'm still getting one but I was honestly waiting for you to hold your breath while seeing what color the twister needle landed on to aid in disassembly. LoL J/K Nonetheless great video as usual. Thanks for your time and effort. I'll tag the like button on the way out
Thank you, this video is definitely helpful. In order to switch the Tavor to left-side ejection, I would need to purchase a left-hand bolt, correct? Not just swap the brass deflector and ejection cover.
Shot my friends Tavor TAR 21 on the weekend, it takes some getting used to as at first the firearm seems to vent gas in your face the first time you shoot it. It was odd shooting a classy firearm that starts out by farting in your face!
i love your vids and i find you really good on cam . i want to know if you can do disassembly of other weapon with the same quality as the other videos you do . For example AR 15 complete disassembly and reassembly , 1911 , AK, Glocks . thx for teh awesome vids you do . great quality and subject .
I just meant the initial disassembly...looks like you're not going to do it in a hurry. Don't get me wrong, it's mega-cool and love the ability to change calibers, however, I'm just questioning how useful this function is...I don't think most casual shooters are going to swap out barrels. I could be wrong...in any case, great review.
Less tool than the AR or AK. AR you need a vice, upper receiver block, armorers wrench, punches, screwdriver, and depending possibly allen keys. Ak you need a 12 ton press, punches, screwdriver. Neither of these are you going to take those tools to the "field". Not unless you have some pretty awesome logistic support
Thanks so much for this video. The manual that comes with the gun is pretty comprehensive, but nothing beats a live demo. I hope to get a 5.45x39mm barrel as soon as they are available. I have had no problems with any generation of PMAG in mine, but I am curious if my AR-Stoner 5.45 AR mags will work in the Tavor. Got a s*load of them. Keep up the good work.
What a gun!

TAR 21 have a full length barrel and the bullet doesn't become a little wimply thrown stone at 500 yards. Unlike the M4.
I just test fired a new TAVOR and I must admit that I REALLY liked it! They will sell a million of these. I never thought that I would see a rifle even more user friendly than an AR but this bullpup IS...now if only we could get the price down...! I can see why you are excited by it.
I use Ballistol on most of my firearms for cleaning and I've been using FrogLube as of late for lubrication.

As compared to what other rifles? AK? You'll need a press. AR? You'll need even more tools and a receiver block and vice. SCAR? You'll need a torque wrench.
Never thought I'd find a rifle more soldier-proof than an AK, but the Tavor is it. Also, zero issues running a YHM suppressor.
My point was, when I was running my rifle suppressed I had so much back blast of fouling that I actually had to completely disassemble the Tavor to get it clean. When I pulled the barrel there was so much fouling all inside the receiver it looked like a charcoal briquette .

I hate how so many people on here are commenting about how they think this is so complex for a field strip.
i have that SAME SCREWDRIVER went missing from my house a couple of days ago, and now it pops up in your video? i've got my eye on you mac.
I am a firearms instructor and I love your channel .Respect from Israel 🇮🇱
Slick song in the vid. You really love that rifle. And after seeing my buddies tavor I can see why. It is a sweet rifle. Way more value for the money than any other bulpups I've seen.
I love the Elcan, it's the perfect optic for the Tavor... at least for me.

This is a full break down. Very detailed. Field stripping is easy. You need a bunch of tools for an AR15 as well.
*************** NOTICE *************

great video. i never realized the big differences between a American SAR21 and the TAR21 in the Canadian market until now
Just as you did not have to remove the barrel, handguard, etc from your M4 to clean it, you don't have to in the TAVOR. This was just a video showing how to take it all the way apart. It's a Meprolight MOR sight. It's an Israeli made sight that's pretty high speed.
The Tavor is such a beautiful rifle!
The Pin detail so you can turn the 9mm Barrel nut was VERY helpful...
Thankfully there's absolutely no need to do such a detailed strip "under fire". This is something to be done by an armorer in the rear. Field stripping and cleaning is all that's required for regular maintenance.

Trigger job!
Trigger job!
Trigger job!
Trigger job!
I ask because I just ordered a Geissele Lightning Bow trigger yesterday:] Awesome Tavor vids.
Thanks, I already use Frog Lube on most of my hand guns and my Colt Le6920, I'll try a can of Ballistol and check out the results. Thanks for the reply and all the informative video, especially the cleaning and disassembly ones.
Trippy. I never grew out of that childhood phase of liking to take things apart, haha.
This is a FULL strip, not field strip. Besides barrel switches or full-on gunsmithing, you will never have to go half this far.
This is a detail strip. For normal cleaning, all you would need to do is pop the back pin and pull the carrier group.

I agree! Taking the barrel off of an AR is so much simpler!
i like your videos. when im in school, i have a two-hour break so usually i just go to the computer lab and watch your vids while im waiting for my break to be over. lol
I really like the ACR as well, but with the Tavor, I get the full 16" barrel length, but in a rifle with an overall length of right around 26".
Great stuff. Thank you. My 16.6" FDE Tavor is now my favorite rifle. I had to have after I saw your first review on it.
8:22 Tim... Corey & Erika from RTT called, they want their theme music back. LOL (Thought I was watching their channel for a minute.) Thanks for the disassembly video... great video as always. Best regards! Chad
They wouldn't, nor would a "normal" soldier take a barrel out of a Tavor. That's the point. This is something generally left to armorers.
Thanks for the great teardown. How about a similar teardown for the X95?
That's why I love the AR-15, it's even simpler than THAT.
But not, seriously he's disassembling the entire rifle. You'd need a set of tools/a good work bench as well if you wanted to do the same to a 416. You'd probably need a set of more punches and a torque wrench/barrel wrench.
Nobody does this in the field.
Rly didnt know thats all it took to strip this weapon. Enjoyed this video. Thank you

Great vid. I've got one inbound to my local FFL, from Atlantic Firearms! CA legal, but we have ways of dealing with the BS.
VERY good video. i have never taken my X95 down past field strip. Thanks.
Wow. People that say this requires too many tools to FULLY disassemble, or is too complicated, or think it looks cheap, have obviously not touched or shot one in person. Well played! Aimpoints are awesome, but I don't like the tube style RDS. I haven't had the chance to play with a micro aimpoint though.
great video, thanks,
Robert/RK Gunsmithing, Idaho, USA
Mine works great with a Kestrel suppressor too.
The hardest part for taking apart the AR is the bolt carrier portion where you have to take out the firing ping. I have yet to shoot one that did that, and I've fired over 8 of them including full-autos.
To all those suffering from A.D.D. this is a full disassembly video. The field strip for this rifle is completely tooless and is accomplished by removing the one piece bolt/piston.
The barrel wrench comes with the replacement barrels and bolt.
I'm so tempted to trade my Bushmaster ACR in for one of these. I love bullpups. Great video as always, Semper Fi.
Thats literally what I did i had the acr enhanced and I love my tavor better
Wow this is super, so professional, fantastic job.
You have some freaking strong hands if you can press your barrel out with them.
Is being a gun nerd a lesser form of nerddom? I watched this video with multiple rewinds. I do not own one and am somewhat on the fence of how I feel about it although it is Israeli which means it has to be Godly. Good vid MAC, looks easy
@MAC:KUDOS: Competent commentary!
Quite fond of Israeli wpnry. B'dos, W.Indies
Sweet video. Thanks from TExas!
Definitely for a field strip, but not for a full disassembly which is what MAC is doing.
You can use a toothpick or a bullet or a bent casing to pull out the firing pin retention pin. That's only if you don't want to hurt your pretty little fingernails. You don't need any tools.
Not sure if sarcasm... If ur some IMI weapon fanboy then I apologize and did not intend on rustling your jimmies.
oh the tavor, seriously tempting the impulse spending wing of my brain castle!
Can you plz do some more reviews on firearms other than the Tavor for people who don't really want to buy one. Thx and good luck with future videos!
That really is a neat gun. It's just seems so frickin heavy.
Then the trigger bow removal is just one pin. after the old trigger is out follow the instructions included with the geissele trigger bow for installation. i just took care of mine, really easy
freedoomed
Sweet! Thank you!
I'll tag the like button on the way out
I've had no issues with my Gen 2 PMAGs.
The top rail is aluminum and the forward rail is polymer.
You get two hour breaks? I need to make my videos longer. :) Thanks for watching.
i love your vids and i find you really good on cam . i want to know if you can do disassembly of other weapon with the same quality as the other videos you do . For example AR 15 complete disassembly and reassembly , 1911 , AK, Glocks . thx for teh awesome vids you do . great quality and subject .
that's a lot! what would a after shooting out for the day clean require...just barrel cleaning?
Thinking of selling gas piston CMMG ar and Golani Galil clone and upgrade to the Tavor. Great video.
Awsome video! Do you have a link on how to switch the safe switch? I am right handed and i would prefer the safety switch on the right side. Tks
You are really making me want to go out and buy a Tavor. This means I'm gonna owe my wife some attaboys! Lol. Thanks for the video.
Love the fast-forward part. Reminds me of good old Benny Hill skits. ;)
As a mechanical engineer, and a firearms enthusiast, I really like your disassembly videos. Its gun and engineering porn all in one lol
Mac, is there anyway you can test to see if the gun holds it's zero after the barrel is removed then reattached?
Hello, can you show us how you plumbed your Meprolight MOR sight onto the TAVOR front hand guard?
