Dawn less than 40% of the cost of BH surfex HD - a great all round degreaser and wax stripper. When I was a kid we cleaned the white wall of my dads car with comet or Ajax
Good tires will always have some minor brown coating. It’s the wax that is blended into the rubber during manufacturing. It keeps the rubber from getting cracks. The amount of scrubbing you did- about anything would be an effective cleaner.
Good to know! That’s why I also tried Dawn full strength to see if there is a difference! But if that’s the case, then one pass would be good enough with Dawn.
Dawn Dish Soap is one of the Best Household Degreasers on the market and safe to use on Powder Coated Undercarriage Parts such as the Suspension, and Powder Coated Wheels and especially Chrome Plated Parts and Wheels.
One tip. Spray the solution on both the wheel & tire. Scrub the tire before rinsing. Only need to rinse the wheel before scrubbing. The tire needs to be sprayed & scrubbed dry. Get more dirt off. Try this next time. I agree in a pinch it works well but I wouldn’t recommend for regular use. Just my humble opinion
I have 5 cars at home and detail them often, I been using Dawn on my wheels for the past 20 years with no problems what so ever. Hot water and Dawn works awesome.
I use Greased Lighting to wash the tires and Pledge furniture polish for a dark flat black look. I personally don’t like a shiny tire. To each his own.
I worked at a body shop during the 70's and 80's. I personally detailed every car/truck painted there. I used Pledge on every tire. There was no Armor All then, besides the silcones in it causes fish eyes in auto paint. The owner never allowed it on the premises.
April to Nov I use dish soap as windshield washer fluid. Works better than that colored water i used to pay for. Table spoon of soap per gallon of water. Make sure you don't have hard water
Occasionally, I will you Comet bathroom cleaner on very dirty towels. Back in the day, we used it on white wall tires. Dawn is advertised as a degreaser, why would it be different from other degreasers? As long as your mixture is proper?
Nanoskin non-acid has been doing very well for me. Dawn power wash is a game changer in cleaning. I wonder if the home mix of this is just as effective.
I stared at 14 years old cleaning rides. used Dawn. every day I'm 60 now take it for what's its worth. I just don't tell every one what i use. And i have customer's that have bine with me for 40 years :)
@@DetailProjectsDawn is a degreaser and as such will necessarily break down ceramic or any other coating. Not to a major degree like a dedicated panel prep would, but it absolutely will weaken coatings, even if only a little. As well, Dawn is NOT pH neutral. It's around a 9.0 pH which is a bit on the alkaline side.
I've been using dish soap on on cars since 1976. Then someone came with the idea of "car wash" soap and selling it for 1500% more, and we can't stop buying it.
Any dish soap strips the paint of any wax! So unless you like to wax your car each and every time after you wash, younare doing harm to your paint finish!!! And you didn't even know it!!!😂😂😂
@@LWRC Ya, I know it. I haven't had a wax last longer than 1 - 1 1/2 months anyway. How often do you think I wash my car by hand??.......Twice a year. And I wax twice a year. Get the details before you judge another person's actions.
@@LWRC For what you get out of it, yes. A good cleaning compound/clay to clean down to the paint, then a polish for shine. Wax doesn't prevent rust or make the polish shine last. Nor does keep paint from fading. I can't remember the last time I've seen faded paint....and there's LOTS of people not waxing their car..
You seem to have missed the point of care soap / auto shampoo, which is to minimize scratching the paint. Of course, if this is no concern to you, by all means continue using dish soap and save some $$.
Don't use it on your paint. It cleans really well if you want to clean the surface for paint prep but that's because it takes off all the wax that is there to protect your paint. The paint will fade over time
Why would dawn scratch your wheels.. It's soap..If anything would scratch the wheels it would be the brushes dragging dirt particles.. The tire was pretty cleaned off with the hose alone .. LMFAO.
I know… but I had to cover that in the video because there is a misconception out there that Dawn doesn’t provide lubrication, others think it’s abrasive?!
I get it. You live in a state probably that has no salt water in or around it. Makes sense. Lots of ducks in our bays during winter along the gulf coast here in Texas
My understanding is Dawn dries out rubber and plastic. While it may be fine to use on occasion, can't imagine a weekly wash would be good or more people would be using it?
Also- you just spent 12 minutes per tire? That's more than 40 minutes on just your tires when many dedicated tire/wheel cleaners can greatly reduce this time/per tire?

A great throwback to Waxmode videos! Good prewash in the foam canon.excellent value
You are a perfectionist, I would have dried it after the first rinse, maybe that’s why my tires and wheels don’t look as good as yours. Great job.
I just subscribed! I'm loving your videos!
I appreciate the support!
Totally agree, use warm /hot water, stiff brush rinse cold water. Works wonders 👍
Simple Green works great on the tires
I have used old-fashioned white wall cleaner on black walls with good results

Good video, Adam’s wheel and tire cleaner is superb

Use the Dawn power spray. It works better on the tires and cleans off the tire shine products.
Always been happy using dawn liquid clean well with no adverse affects

Tires are not supposed to be shiny at all... Matte

You're being ignorant now. Bathroom cleaner is ACIDIC because it has to dissolve limescale. Be careful about what you use and how. 🤦

do you know if chemical guys galactic black wet tire shine ,can cause tires to crack over time?
Not for me, I've been using GB for years, my (Firestone)tires are like 6 years old and they still look like new.
I bought some Adams wheel and tire cleaner, but I think I may try this instead and return the Adams to save some money.

They know now lol!
Gets all the oily ducks clean, should be gentle enough on your wheels and tires. 😂
So this should work to get rid of any blooming for prepping for a tire coating?
4:09 You have to let the wheel dry to see the difference. A dirty car always looks better after it's sprayed with water.
Tires are pretty durable, so soap wont do much harm. Just put a dressing on afterwards to protect
I found Dawn works great on wheels.
It also removes wax. Your paint needs wax for protection. That's why wash and wax combos are better.
what did you put on those rims prior to this cleaning application? Cleaning the TRD Rims are awful
They are ceramic coated with CARPRO DLUX
I use a pair of brown cotton gloves, takes about 15 minutes
Any well known good kitchen degreasing detergent works just as good as Dawn and is less expensive. I have always used Palmolive for one example.
What do you use/recommend for tire shine?
I have been enjoying aerospace 303 lately
Always used brake fluid in the 1970s it cost .39 cents 1/2 pint
@@randyault😂😂 I remember that..
Using a Degreaser on a petroleum product It will dry out the tire faster than usual
Wow looks good
Doesn’t dawn take off the ceramic coating
Dawn doesn’t remove ceramic coatings. Only polishing removes ceramic coatings

I use simple green. Which acts like a degreaser, also biodegradable unlike dawn soap.
I wanted to see a dry tire at the end.
Krud cutter on the tires will strip all of the grime off with ease
Don’t RINSE first because you’re not letting the soap lift off the dirt … SPRAY ON SOAP / RINSE / BRUSH ON SOAP / RINSE
Thx alot

If you clean tires that vigorously, any soap will do. It’s a no brainer….

Are you driving on those tires or eating off of them? Dude, that’s a little much.
Dawn advertises their soap cleans oil spill from Baby Ducks. Not many people know that ducks don’t swim in the ocean, only in freshwater.
there are multiple seaside dwelling duck species that regularly swim in ports/bays lol
There are salt water ducks, plenty here in Canada
I have seen lots of ducks swimming in the ocean, but what do I know living along side the Atlantic Ocean 50 years now

Great observation! However in reality I spent 12 minutes on a video demonstration on how to clean a wheel. There is a big difference there!
@kevinb8887 Kevin, you are correct ! You HAVE to wax or treat all automotive surfaces after Dawn. It cleans that good.
You can clean wheels with Dawn in 95 degree heat in the sun and it will not damage the wheels
Great on tires and rims, but do not use as a vehicle wash
A British guy added Vinegar to Dawn for really dirty wheels. Ima try it !
Can’t keep up. 1st they said don’t use dish soap on your car use car wash. PH is wrong on dish soap. Now . . .🤷♂️🤷♀️
Its all about smoke and mirrors to make more and more money. The greatest religion, money worship.
Aboot?
Try scrubbing bubbles on all plastics and rubber on the car. You'll never use dawn again.
Everyone must use DAWN Dish Soap.
👍👍👍👍👍
Talk about a strip wash eh?
Dawm cuts Grease! Grime and brake dust!
That is to much work for 1 tire
Seriously , you do have a lot of wasted time on your hand. 😂
Pfft. I paint 100% Dawn wheels !
Pull wheels off do backsides 😅😅😅
