    Back in the 2000s I worked at a dodge dealer. We washed every single customers car. They had this pink soap for the rims and tires. You would spray it on and power wash it off. No matter how bad the inside of the rim was. When you rinsed it off. It took all that dirt grime and break dust right off the rim. There would be customers just shocked how clean the rims would come out. No labor involved. I don’t work there anymore. It closed down in the 2008 disaster, but I have never been able to buy that soap. None of the detail shops carry it. And believe me I have tried. Wish I knew what the namebrand was of it.

      The name of the soap is acid. You spray wheel acid, dont let it dry, power wash off and even the most baked on grime will have been eaten away. Great source of respiratory damage.

      @@justinbernardo8240 I don’t think it had acid in it. Because they used it generously. And I know they would get it on themselves. But I honestly don’t know. And I’ve never been able to find it. It was thick pink soap. And it worked like a charm. Hubcaps tires and rims. No wiping no scrubbing just spray and rinse off.

    We don't have Dawn here in the UK but if we did, I'd use it. I used regular dish soap/liquid for years on alloys with no detriment effect. Then, once a month I used an iron remover. However, I've now been conditioned by the manufacturers to using the "latest & greatest" . Might have to have a 're think. A very useful video..

      Thanks! Try to wash out of direct sunlight, work in cooler hours of the day either morning or late evening, make sure areas are cool to the touch, clean one wheel at the time, as soon as you spray the chemical start agitation and keep wetting your wheel and tools as you go until you completely clean the wheel. That should help fight the environmental challenges your faced with.

    Mike Phillips on Dawn when he worked for Meguairs: "The problem with using strong detergents to wash your car is that not only do high alkaline, strong detergent soaps like Dawn dull your car's paint and strip off wax/polymer protectants, it also dries out all of the non-paint components such as vinyl, rubber and plastic." Recently, he made an exception for vehicles that are really hammered, so I guess that exception might apply to heavily soiled wheels. Otherwise, I would use less aggressive means.

  • @misael008
    @misael008 8 днів тому

    Yeah I wouldn’t worry about dawn I would worry more about the dedicated tire and wheel cleaner, some of those cause your tires to turn brownish and no matter how much u clean it, brush it or shine it, it will still be brown, but that’s not the bad part some start cracking your tire walls.

    • @B-rad1
      @B-rad1 3 дні тому

      All tires turn brown over time. It's called "blooming" and is caused by a chemical that helps the rubber resist rotting and decay due to ozone and sun exposure. Removing it without adding some form of UV protectant will cause your tire to dry rot much more quickly.

      Yeah sometimes the regular dawn just doesn't cut it. I've gone over tires several times until my arm was sore from scrubbing. the foam would stay white during scrubbing and afterwards the tires still looked brown. I then used a dedicated wheel cleaner and the brown started to get eaten away. You can tell its working because the foam would change color and afterwards the tires were black once again.
      Wheel cleaners aren't necessarily cheap so I'll be using dawn for general upkeep and bring out the dedicated wheel cleaners when needed.
