TAIPEI, TAIWAN - Welcome to Taiwan! Today we’re going on an ultimate Taiwanese street food tour to eat 5 of the best dishes that you don’t want to miss eating when you’re in Taipei. From beef noodles to scallion pancakes, these are five of the most iconic and delicious foods to try, and where to try them. Let’s eat!
1. Beef Noodles (牛肉麵)
Location: Liu Shandong Beef Noodles 劉山東牛肉麵 (goo.gl/maps/LcecTVDPrpZ6dcZ99)
Price: 160 TWD ($5.28) per bowl
Beef noodles are perhaps the single most famous of all Taiwanese foods, there are few things better than a giant bowl of thick noodles with a soothing beef bone broth, and Taiwan does it well. Liu Shandong Beef Noodles is one of the legends of Taiwanese beef noodles, old school, and droolworthy. It was an honor to have a kitchen tour with Taiwan’s King of beef noodles!
2. Lu Rou Fan (滷肉飯)
Location: Jin Da Lu Rou Fan 今大魯肉飯 (goo.gl/maps/3FvJook9MsF2mWbU6)
Total price - 170 TWD ($5.62)
Perhaps the single most iconic and loved dish in Taiwan for Taiwanese people is Lu Rou Fan (滷肉飯), a sauce made from braised pork belly to eat over rice. It has its origins in Taiwan when people needed to take a little meat and stretch the flavor, creating a flavorful gravy. It’s comfort food and something that is dear to the hearts of Taiwanese people.
3. Scallion Pancake (蔥抓餅)
Location: Hsiung Chi Scallion Pancake 雄記蔥抓餅 (goo.gl/maps/cZKPcMAcZY4WKRkA8)
Price - 110 TWD ($3.63) for both
Next up on this Taiwan street food tour we’re eating scallion pancakes, one of the most popular street food snacks. They pancakes are almost roti style and you can get them with eggs, or full on with egg, cheese, ham, sauces, and extra toppings. It’s fresh, tasty, gooey, and crispy all at the same time.
4. Stinky Tofu (臭豆腐)
Location: Dai’s House of Unique Stink 戴記獨臭之家臭豆腐專賣店 (goo.gl/maps/DnzcQL5VECrDbfvo8)
Total price - 175 TWD ($5.78)
Ah yes, stinky tofu, something your taste buds will never forget! It’s more than a meal, but an experience and something truly to be respected. This place makes all their own stinky tofu and we had the rare opportunity to taste a 2 year old fermented tofu - one of the stronger flavors I’ve ever experienced, WOW!
5. Dumplings (餃子)
Location: Dragon Inn Dumpling House 龍門客棧餃子館 (林森店) (goo.gl/maps/beZFz3MUVqNazHRE6)
Total price - 550 TWD ($18.17)
Few things make me think about Taiwan and Taiwanese food more than dumplings and braised meats and parts. Dragon Inn serves legendary boiled dumplings and their cabinet of braised items is something truly impressive. What a meal, so good.
So there you have all five of the must eat dishes when you’re in Taiwan and where to eat them!
Thanks to my friend / taipeieats for helping me arrange this food tour.

I just got back from 2 weeks in Taiwan and ‘food obsessed’ was the perfect way to describe the country. In the US people greet each other with ‘How are you?’ While in Taiwan everyone greeted me with ‘Have you eaten yet?’
Jealous! I hope very much to go back soon... not just for the food, but definitely partly for the food 😅
That's just a generic Chinese greeting, not just Taiwan
@@Tom67Slick not true
@@txr8565 korea uses it too
@@txr8565 It is true actually :)
I'm a Taiwanese living abroad and I must say all 5 dishes Mark picked are really, really local and loved by the Taiwanese people, well done and I miss Taiwanese food!
Yeah. Local foods will always better. Because the local chef will have real skill too to cook it. I will never looking for burger or pizza in Taiwan or China... I will search foods of their own specialty...
where can i get authentic TW food in the US😭😭
Chinese food! no too many -nese!!!

Im a Singaporean living in Taipei for 4 years now and i still cant get enough of the food here! The places you've visited are really very local, and that particular Scallion Pancakes store you went is really legit and it is also my go-to in Taipei when i am craving for one. Do head down south and pay Tainan a visit as they are very well known for their beef soup ! For locals, i believe Tainan is one of the place they'd love to go for food and i hope to see an episode of 5 Must Eat Foods in Tainan!
Great to hear from you Elsie, thank you very much. Really hoping to visit Tainan soon!
Fried eel noodles !!鱔魚意麵
Wow fried eel noodles.
Sliced Tomatoes with Ginger Dip👌
only in Tainan👍
Also Singaporean here, married to a Taiwanese.
Tainan local food leans towards a sweeter aftertaste due to its sugar production heritage during Japanese colonialism . Not really a fan of that taste, but it is definitely interesting
The beef soup there is legendary because it comes straight from the abattoir without any form of freezing/cold storage. ( 溫體牛 / body temp beef)
Super tender, purity of beef flavour
I'm Taiwanese living in Sydney. Glad you were there introducing Taiwanese food on you channel. You really brought me back home, missing the food there indeed!!!!!
I miss Taiwan so much! It's been 9 years since Mark was there so glad he is back there now.
Also in Sydney! Love Taiwanese food
Really I miss Taiwan foods.I work there 20 years ago and I love the country and tradition

My lord, those beef noodles look like they were sent down from the heavens. Taiwan might be one of the world's very best 'comfort food' spots, and this is proof! Cannot wait to go back 🥲
I love Taiwan! The people there is so so so friendly and they don’t even sound angry even when they are dealing with nasty customers

I just got back from 3 weeks in Taiwan, this trip I had 3 different kinds of beef noodle.
Soooo enjoyed the Middle School, High School Reunion Partys and Dinners, also the Family & Relatives Reunion as well. My husband and I feel so blessed.
One of my favorite countries. Great food, extremely friendly ppl, beautiful mountains and very modern
way way better then the much larger west Taiwan too much cancer.
friendly? nah.
buildings and kitchen look everything but modern at all xD.
If you learn your history, no country in the world recognizes here as a country. ;)

This makes me miss Taiwan. I spent some time teaching ESL in Taichung. This video had my mouth watering!
The food scene in Taiwan was just incredible! The people were so friendly and polite as well, one of my favourite countries I’ve ever visited.
We would love to visit Taiwan someday and try the food

I missed Taiwanese cuisines.. I was working there before for more than 5 years but now I am in Spain and I can’t compare the food in Taiwan. It is just the best!
Good to hear you say so, wait for you to come back and visit.
Please do come back to visit!

Taiwanese are wonderful peoples, and their food is delicious.👍
Travelled to Taiwan for my college graduation trip. The ppl are so friendly and the food is amazing! I miss Taiwan
I'm third generation american, my family is scottish. I live in the Laurel Highlands of the Appalachian mountain chain in Pennsylvania.
There are no tawianese restraunts near or far. However, because of your videos, i will prepare these dishes.
Wishing you and all other's continuous prosperity & great health. 🤙
Many Chinese people may impersonate Taiwanese restaurants, but you can easily distinguish them by simply looking at the flags they hang. Taiwanese people don't hang the Chinese five-star flag. Generally, Taiwanese people don't consider their country to be part of China.
Wow! I have been working in Taiwan for 6 years, and I have been experience to eat all foods in this video, especially beef noodles is my favorite.
第一次看影片,就看到我的故鄉台灣。
好想馬上回台灣,去嘗試這些美食!

Greetings from Tijuana, Mexico. It seems like yesterday when you filmed the episode in my city . I want to thank you Mark for showing us all these wonderful foods , they all look so delicious. In 1987 I went on a study tour to Tunghai University in Taichung and I remember all the food discoveries I made. Shaved iced with topping , meatball soups with noodles at the night market, sweet bread, Taiwan beer, steamed fish...all with the unique seasonings...I knew It would be my only chance to savor all those dishes....Im glad for this episode, it brought good memories! Thanks again.

Taiwan is known for anything spells noodles and a sweet mothering deserts, buble tea and oh heavenly Chinese cuisines. It never stops.
In all of your noodle tours, by far the Taiwanese beef noodles look the best from any other country.
Lu rou fan (braised pork rice) is really no joke. That was the unforgettable memory during the trip to Taiwan, simply one of the best rice dish I've ever had in my entire life, and the price makes it even better. Solid top 3!!!

Lived in Taipei for more than 30y, it's safe great hospitality, night market must visit and great delicious food
When Chinese people from the mainland took over Taiwan in 1949, they changed the official name to Republic of China. Wonder how the native Taiwanese felt.
The pork over rice (lu rou fan) is such an insanely good dish... I'm crying over here 😂 This is simply beautiful Mark! I hope you make another 20 episodes in Taiwan 😅

I love Taiwanese food too! Mark always finds the best places and people to showcase. Love from America. 🇺🇸💜
Good to know lots of people love the food from Taiwan province of China!
The braised pork rice is definitely one of the best in Greater Taipei area. Welcome back, Mark!
The best dumplings I have ever had was in Taiwan. Have been to mainland China and lived in Japan, but no 1 dumplings is in Taiwan. Stinky tofu is good too, sometimes comparable with French cheeses. It made in Okinawa too. Great clip as usual, Mark.
Tainan is really known for its local food and street food. The city has its reputation. Every single Taiwanese would say go to Tainan if one is looking for some good authentic food. Hopefully, you have some time to explore Tainan. Addtionally, Tainan is the first capital of Taiwan, there is a historical aroma all over the city.

When I went to Taiwan, I was surprised. They are as liberated as the West, grounded as the Japanese, and hospitable as the Filipinos. After visiting SoKor, HK, and China, I was kinda expecting them to be as equally rude, but I was wrong.
And the food? The best! Night markets and hole-in-the-wall eateries are the best!
This brought a smile to my face, watching Mark eat and delight in Taiwanese food :)
If that is Micah coughing in the background I hope he is feeling better. Love watching you travel with just your family to Japan and Taiwan. Hope you all are getting some much needed family time together as well as enjoying the cuisine and culture.
