    I’ve been learning to serve obsessively and this may be the best video on it on UA-cam
    I know it’s just backswing but your technique, communication and production values are off the chart

    You are a great instructor. For many years I've tried to have the classic backswing but my toss has always been a huge problem. I didn't realize it until I watched your video. I'm tried the second type or the delayed yesterday and I actually controlled my toss. Could have been just a good serving day but I'm going to stay with it for awhile and see what happens. Thank you

    Just realised that I've switched from 1 to 2. 2 allows me to be more relaxed in the first part of the serve (toss and backswing) and more explosive in the racket drop and contact. Great video, thanks!

    Honestly, my backswing felt really stiff while I was doing the staggered backswing. But I took the quiz and switched to the classic backswing and everything just felt so much more fluid. Thank you so much for this

    Reason I found the abbreviated so helpful was it took my focus off of my arm and I could focus more on the legs and jumping at the ball.

    Thank you! Thank you! This completely explains what I’ve been trying to figure out through experiment. Ive always used a full swing, but when I saw how hard you hit your serve in a previous video, I tried to mimic it but had no real clue what I was doing. Turns out I was actually doing the most abbreviated motion….and I can’t believe how effortless speed is generated with a much shorter ball toss and quick motion. Definitely a learning curve after all these years, but I’m loving it.

    This is another great video from you. I had once tried to the delay one, until I realised that I opened racket during the swing/drop. So I switched back to classic one, as the elbow move keeps the racket close.
    Quick question: are you the same one with the short hair doing the serve contact video before? Your videos are all great with good technical explanation and no gimmick. Love your work! 👍😍

    I'm coming back from pandemic slowdown. My serve was suffering and I was in just the past few days fixing my hitting arm position. Not many coaches teach this, on the serve or otherwise.Saw a Federer serve video where he straightens his hitting arm on the windup, flexes his chest, then cocks at the elbow. Your lesson does exactly this and my serve is BACK! Thanks!

      Also helps a great deal to point one's chest up at the ball. Keeps the arm in the socket and increases power and control.

    Just watched your tennis con 5 offering and it was really good. I know a lot of instructors say stay sideways through the motion but it seems that what you teach really stresses the turning of the shoulders into contact to cause the racket drop and shoulder to go internal to external. Any clarification you could provide, I’d love to know. Thanks for the awesome stuff.

    Thank you so much for another original and insightful analysis! (Mind-blowing stuff!) Whenever you have a chance, just a quick question: do players with a staggered backswing toss the ball more in front of the baseline to buy time or is the backswing with racquet drop just more accelerated? (I've been struggling with the timing here and end up opening the racquet face up too early exactly the way that you've show, propelling the ball long.)

    • @drejtoman2974
      @drejtoman2974 Рік тому

      No - Ball toss in front doesn't buy you more time .
      I think you could be over analysing things .
      Try this. Find the action you like then suit ball placement accordingly.
      Guy here likes Abreviated swing . So that is best for him.
      A Rod started with classical and himself went to his ab swing . Good coach should help you find your serve

    hi, great vid, thanks. I am wondering if you could make a comparison and analysis of Fededer's slice serve vs S.Williams's ? these two have the best slice serve on tour from male and female players, however their techniques are quite different, I mean the way of pronation. I'd like to know which one is better for amateurs to copy?

    I love your videos now. You have toned down the stylistic portions of the production in favor of more information content. I started with the abbreviated takeback and it worked fine because it was simple. But timing was hard. And as I got more coordinated, I moved to the staggered takeback. However, I did experience the problems with a poor drop. I have to say that I did not try to copy any pros technique at this point. I was just trying to get a reliable serve. When these efforts failed, I moved to the classical takeback. I also toss parallel to the baseline with a platform stance. Like yours, my whole serve is basically modeled from Fed's serve and I admit it was hard to get. The journey was about 1.5 years of hard work but it's worth it. When i used the other takebacks, my serve was just so inconsistent. Sometimes I would hit with power. Sometimes not. Sometimes it would be accurate and sometimes not. Now I can consistently serve with good power and accuracy. I also have a reliable kicker and decent slice. Life is good. Thanks for the video.

    • @RacquetFlex
      @RacquetFlex  3 роки тому

      Hi, Wally, thanks for the kind words and for sharing your journey! 🙏 There's a lot of personal tinkering and experimentation that goes into making your serve "your own." But in the end, those bombs down the T or sick slice serves make it worth it. I'm glad you've finally settled down with one (sounds like a marriage 😂).

    got a rotator cuff injury due to serving a few years ago and it's never truly been the same. I know you're not a medical expert but which style would you recommend to put less strain? Very vague without actually seeing my service motion, I know.

    • @RacquetFlex
      @RacquetFlex  3 роки тому +1

      Hey Mattin! Great question, I have had players that I've worked with before who had previous shoulder injuries so I know that you'd want a backswing that's effective but puts the least strain on your muscles and tendons. You can actually execute any of these backswings and stay injury free. What's more important is that you are in a comfortable position at the end of your racquet drop and at contact. This means that you'll want to decrease the amount of external rotation you get. I would personally recommend using the classical backswing or starting from the trophy position while keeping your racquet drop nice and slow to begin with. Hope this helps!

      Great point! Nadal has changed his serve over the years, with a hybrid between the abbreviated and staggered. As I mentioned in the video, the classifications are very broad and most players will never perfectly fit into one category - it is much more based on their personal preference and rhythm.

    Abbreviated can obviously work but I can't quite comprehend how it's possible to generate as much power with it. I guess the abbreviated is more like a football quarterback and the staggered is like a baseball pitcher, and success with each movement pattern will depend on how you use your legs (forward momentum is better for staggered while upward momentum better for abbreviated)

    • @thebigmonstaandy6644
      @thebigmonstaandy6644 3 роки тому

      you can generate power with it,you you make great shoulder rotation(you have with this motion a lot of time,due a big break in trophy position).but it is very possible you would get shoulder pain,becaurce of this type of swing.(i had a lot of pain,and changed)
