USPTA Pro teaching 48 hrs/wk here by choice in my retirement because tennis is my passion. (Don't need the $ and make multiples more off court) AMEN to this analysis and points made in this video. Really well organized and explained. Fantastic comments by clearly knowledgeable individuals. Great job everyone! So happy i subscribed a while back.
This is the absolutely best video I have ever seen on the serve toss. You guys just keep increasing the quality and value of your channel, and you're an amazing contribution to the tennis community.
You should really make a video explaining HOW to toss (how to grab the ball, where to toss from, which muscles to use, parallel or perpendicular to the baseline/net, etc...), you guys have great tosses and are amazing teachers!!
It’s incredible how detailed and well-researched your videos are. All the other tennis yt channels could easily disappear and I wouldn’t even notice. Hands down the best channel worldwide for learning tennis. Thanks a lor for what you are doing. Wish I could take a flight from Italy just to have a lesson with you guys. Amazing.
Back in high school Ive always had trouble with pacing my 2nd serve. It didnt occur to me it’s kind of hard to add more pace when you toss literally over your head lol. Great video!
You know what your videos are the best tennis lesson videos. I am a tennis player as well as an higher ed educator. You know how to teach things~ Whether or not you recognize, the videos are really based on some teaching theories!!
Hi Coach!! Great explanation to all tennis lovers!! I tried to figure these out on my own for 20 years without success!! THANK YOU for helping but I am too old to play competition tennis now!! I may help other young tennis players with your advise!! THANK YOU!!
This video is honestly sick. The quiz actually helped me realize a lot of things, your way of describing the toss techniques is complex yet still easy to comprehend. Thanks!
We got 1000 likes! Are we getting a dedicated slice serve video? :). Seriously, you guys produce some of the best tennis instructions videos on the internet!
Thanks Patrick! Yep, they are going to be exciting. We have more technique videos as well as drill videos. Let me know if you have any suggestions for future videos!
are you guys Twins? im confused🤔...by the i've seen most of your videos, its great, valueable content...congratulations, keep posting videos like this. ✅👍🎾
Awesome video. Thanks! Regarding the arc toss, I always end up leaning more to my left and hit the ball with the racket straight up and down. Any tips on how to hit with the racket at an angle instead of leaning left?
I was watching some video with the other guy from this channel. Today I tried looking for the the video but I think was deleted along with some other videos. Anyone know what happened?
Roscoe Tanner, who was 6'0, served 150mph with a wooden racquet by tossing the ball low and far in front of him, and having a fluid whip-like movement with constant acceleration, not stopping or even slowing down at the "trophy pose". Why has nobody re-created that serve? What would Opelka or Isner do with that movement instead of theirs?
@@chasemiller7551 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roscoe_Tanner. You can see Rosco'es serve at 1:05 ua-cam.com/video/5JDg1fTRl30/v-deo.html also ua-cam.com/video/3c-6wxAnSyo/v-deo.html Ignorance is excusable, not doing a search when barge in to argue is not.
I'd give ANYTHING for a, "You are NEVER going to be an ATP pro so let's look at a good-enough, repeatable serve for you, a normal human with a day job." Make that video, call it, "Serving for 40+ Rec Players with Jobs" and get 1,000,000 views. Because I can't do this serve for an entire match. It wears me out.
03:25 "Federer toss drops between one and two feet before contact". Can you give more info on this? I find it MUCH more difficult to toss two feet versus one feet, or even 1.5 feet. What is Fed doing on a flat serve? Dropping 1.5 feet?
The ball toss is what controls your timing and rhythm on the serve. Once you have the base mechanics in place, the ball toss placement will be individual for your serve style and speed and without seeing your serve a fair bit, it is pretty much impossible to say categorically what will work best for you, but copying what somebody else does, even if they were the best player in the world may not work for you EVER!
@@Whisper555 (Ditto Akin) good comment. Why would Federer's toss matter to someone else's individually-determined, "ideal toss"? I suppose if you happen to be Federer's genetically identical CLONE, brewed in some underground fortress in Switzerland... Note: He does mention in the video to experiment with the three toss factors (height, depth, arc) until you can get your toss to your own preferred contact point, as described in the preceding vid.
People completely misunderstand why the ball toss is the most important part of the serve. When you are a beginner-Intermediate player it is simply a game of maths. If you serve 100 times, but only have 20 decent ball tosses, not only have you only practised your serve 20 times, 80 times you have practised a bad habit of hitting a poor ball toss with the associated poor mechanics to accommodate those 80 out of 100 poor ball tosses. When you are an intermediate-advanced player and trying to develop the nuances of the serve, speed, spin, height and placement, having a consistent ball toss is crucial to developing these serve characteristics and attributes. Once you are an advanced to elite player and coach, which everyone on the UA-cam comments clearly are, then as you are all aware the serve becomes all about timing and rhythm, with technique although important, is no longer relevant to you, as you know that you achieve a consistent result primarily from timing and rhythm which your ball toss in the key component.
okay, here's the result of this video in 1 sentence: topspin, flat and slice serve are all the same with the same toss and the same motion. learned nothing here. I don't even see the differences in the comparison videos.
This is the best tennis channel out there. These brothers know how to speak and they have skills and are willing to teach.
Both of you have beautiful serves. So fluid and aesthetic as well as functional. Watching this is bound to improve anyone’s serve

Love this content. High quality, high production standards, nice smiles, excellent tennis technique.
The video is great as usual, but the real benefit to me is the drill section; this really helped me a lot. Thanx again !
Best explanation on serving yet. Thanks
Your instructions are easy to digest, best tutorial at least for me as a beginner
I just love that you exist to teach me this.
GOAT indeed.
This is the absolutely best video I have ever seen on the serve toss. You guys just keep increasing the quality and value of your channel, and you're an amazing contribution to the tennis community.
I think you might be the best UA-cam coach for tennis
👍👍 missing the court so much. See you guys soon
Best tennis channel with in-depth biomechanics breakdowns, and its not even close!!
Wow, this may be the most in-depth video on serve toss location. Great information and lots to think about here. Well done 👍
Thanks Coach Adrian! I am glad you got some takeaways from this video. Great luck with your training!
Optimal is inline with traps and into the court
i missed you guys. yall need more videos, please. I improved my serve last year in march cause of you guys. thanks
doctor of tennis!
Great! For the first time I saw true suggestions for all parts of serve. Thank you.

Is it just me or some of the older videos were deleted ? I wanted to rewatch one video and couldn't find it.
Yeah they were deleted :(
Don't know why tho
@Terence James i’m also wondering about this. Any clue what his name is?
